Shopify has offered vendors a great website to sell their goods for years, and has upped their game. For members of Shopify, sign up for a 14-day trial of one of three monthly packages and see if the mobile credit card reader and check-out options is right for your small business. Shopify is a relatively new online site that allows merchandisers to sell their products online and still receive credit card payments from customers in person. It opened its' virtual doors back in 2010, and currently has 500 workers 'behind the curtains' of the net.

The Good

  • Free Trial

Free Trial

Start your free 14-day trial through Spotify, and try it before you buy it. In addition to online checkout, you can allow purchases to be paid for on the go...at trade shows, flea markets, road side stand, wherever you sell your products. There are four different plans for merchants to choose from. Each one provides a unique experience for the businesses they attempt to accommodate.

The basic plan is $29.00 a month and offers:
  • In Person swipe: 2.7% + 30¢
  • Unlimited products
  • No transaction fees
  • Unlimited devices
  • 24/7 Support
The Shopify Regular Plan is $79 a month and includes:
  • In Person swipe: 2.6% + 30¢

  • Gift cards
  • Professional reports
The Advanced Package is $299 a month and includes:

  • Unlimited products
  • No transaction fees
  • Unlimited devices
  • 24/7 Support
  • Gift cards
  • Professional reports
  • Advanced report builder

No Setup Fees

There are no setup fees, and you are free to cancel your account at any time, with no penalties or fines. While you can sign up for an annual or biennial plan, most just go month-to-month. To cancel, simply cancel your account through the control panel of your site. Pay upfront for the annual to save 10%, or pay biennially and save 20% when paid up front. Upgrading or downgrading your account can be done easily as well. Shopify is very user-friendly and allows for the customer to tailor the site to their own preferences.

Nothing Bad to Report

Nothing bad to report. No contracts, no cancellation fees, no hidden fees and a variety of monthly services makes Shopify a great choice.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that Shopify is a necessity for any self-employed merchandiser. Three levels of service provided on a no contract, month to month status, with no hidden charges and no charges for services not required for the individual business, Shopify seems to be a service of the people, for the people. A great addition to any small retail business.
