SmileDirectClub Cost

SmileDirectClub charges $1,950 for one-time payments — slightly lower than the average cost for the industry (cost may vary based on country and currency). 

If customers want to pay monthly payments, they make a $250 one-time deposit along with $89 per month for 24 months. Making monthly payments does end up being a bit more expensive than paying all at once, totaling $2,386. This cost averages to about $3 a day throughout the duration of the treatment, which is up to 60 percent less than the price of traditional braces.

This price, however, does not include a retainer set, which costs an additional $99. 

SmileDirectClub is slightly cheaper than other companies within the clear aligners and clear braces industry. This is especially true if you factor in that SmileDirectClub's treatment does not require you to make regular visits to a dental office, so you save on office visit costs. 

SmileDirectClub’s prices are much cheaper than traditional metal braces, which can cost around $5,000 without insurance and around $3,500 with insurance.

Straighter Teeth in 6 Months

The duration of each customer’s teeth alignment process will vary due to the severity of misalignment. On average, SmileDirectClub can straighten a customer’s teeth between four and six months of treatment. This is done by wearing SmileDirectClub aligners (a clear plastic retainer) 22 hours a day for a designated amount of time. This is generally quite a bit quicker than metal braces and traditional orthodontic care.

Nighttime Straightening Option

SmileDirectClub now offers an even simpler way to straighten teeth — SmileDirectClub Nighttime Aligners, aligners that only need to be worn in the evenings. For those who are not feeling excited to commit to 22 hours of aligner wearing per day, these new Nighttime Aligners are the solution. Those who opt for the nighttime option are only committed to wear the aligners for 10 continuous hours a day, most of which should be while you are asleep. Because of the shortened daily wear time, the overall process will take a bit longer, averaging around 10 months.

Easy 3-Step Process

There are three steps in the straightening process at SmileDirectClub. This process is similar to most other clear aligners.

1. Making an impression of the teeth — SmileDirectClub will make a 3D image of the customer’s teeth to prepare different sets of clear plastic aligners to straighten the teeth.

The 3D image is made in one of two ways: customers can visit one of SmileDirectClub’s SmileShops or partner network dentists for a free 3D scan of their teeth or pay $59 for SmileDirectClub to send an impression kit to the customers’ homes, which walks customers through taking an impression of their teeth by holding plastic trays with a tasteless putty in their mouth. This creates an impression mold of the customer's teeth so the company can create a 3D representation.

2. Completing the treatment — SmileDirectClub aligners will be produced that are specifically designed for each customer and sent to their house. Each set of aligners will be worn for a predetermined time, with each set becoming increasingly straighter, aligning the customer’s crooked teeth along the way.

One of the company's more than 250 state-licensed dentists or orthodontists will monitor your progress via regular virtual check-ins. The treating doctor will track progress remotely, eliminating the need for in-person visits. 

3. Purchasing a retainer — Once the teeth are straightened and the treatment is finished, customers will need to purchase a set of retainers for $99 to be worn at night, so the straight teeth don’t move out of place again.

SmileDirectClub recommends that customers purchase a new set of retainers every six months.

Flexible Pricing Options

So how can you pay for SmileDirectClub?

There are two payment options and costs for clear aligner treatment. You can pay all at once, or you can pay monthly. Monthly payments do not require a credit check. 

  • $1,950 for a one-time payment 
  • $89 monthly payments, totaling $2,386 (this includes the $250 down payment)

SmileDirectClub accepts payment through Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Savings Accounts (HSA), and CareCredit. The company is also in-network with most major dental insurance companies, which means customers can often cover on average 50 percent of their treatment with insurance. Depending on your dental insurance plan, this may come as a reimbursement through your insurance provider.

Teen Treatment

In July 2020, SmileDirectClub launched a new treatment catered specifically for teens. The new SmileDirectClub treatment plan includes a patented aligner case with Tile bluetooth tracking so that teens will have a harder time misplacing aligners. In the event that aligners are lost, the Lost Aligner Protection Program is available to make sure that replacement aligners are expedited and treatment won’t be delayed.

SmileDirectClub is also adding new features to its telehealth program, such as aligner change and doctor check-in notifications for both teens and their parents. Teens with mild to moderate malocclusion can get started on their smile journey by requesting a doctor-prescribed impression kit.

Ships Internationally

SmileDirectClub is currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, UK, Germany, Austria, Singapore, Spain, and Hong Kong.

Club Warranty

All customers receive their SmilePlan, or a 3D view of their treatment plan, within 72 hours of their scan appointment or impression kit return. Aligners are custom-made and shipped to the customer within about five weeks depending on the country.

Customers have up until 30 days after receiving their aligners to return them for a full refund. If customers aren’t satisfied with their results, SmileDirectClub offers free re-evaluations and can provide additional aligners. This is at no cost if SmileDirectClub is notified within 30 days of treatment ending.

SmileDirectClub also offers free aligner touch-ups for life if a customer notices their teeth moving out of place. This Lifetime Smile Guarantee is only valid if customers purchase two sets of retainers a year after finishing treatment. 

Customer Support

SmileDirectClub offers 24/7 customer support via phone, chat, video, text, and email. The company has a dental team that is available via phone, email, chat, and video to assist with concerns, such as fit issues, progress concerns, or general treatment questions.

Oral Care and Whitening Products

In addition to providing a cost-effective teeth straightening option, SmileDirectClub has expanded into oral care products. The company offers items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, water flossers, and even a UV cleaning machine. 

SmileDirectClub includes teeth whitening products in its teeth straightening treatment packages at no extra cost. Other companies in the industry will charge extra if you want to include whitening products. This is only available in the United States and Canada. 

These products are also widely available in the United States through SmileDirectClub's website and at Walmart (United States only). All products come highly rated on both Walmart and SmileDirectClub’s websites. SmileDirectClub is the only clear aligner brand to offer a one-stop shop of oral care products.

Down Payment Required

SmileDirectClub requires a $250 down payment to begin its monthly payment plan. On top of the cost for the at-home impression kit, it could cost customers around $299 to sign up for SmileDirectClub.

Retainer Not Included 

Not only must you pay $99 for a set of retainers at SmileDirectClub, but the company recommends that you buy a new one every six months in order to keep your teeth straight.

Customers should also note that while SmileDirectClub does offer a smile guarantee, you have to order two sets of retainers each year to maintain that guarantee. 

Some Customer Service Issues

Some customers have expressed frustration with SmileDirectClub’s customer service, often having to wait a long time before getting in contact with a representative to resolve their problems. Other customers have expressed their aligners caused discomfort to their teeth and gums. That being said, straightening your teeth requires teeth to be moved, so some discomfort, especially early on, is to be expected.

The Bottom Line

SmileDirectClub is the largest in-home clear aligners provider in the country and claims to represent around 95 percent of the doctor-directed at-home clear aligner industry. With over 6,300 team members and more than 390 SmileShops, the company provides invisible braces for a price slightly lower than the industry average. The average time for treatment is also about average, with most treatments ranging from four to six months. SmileDirectClub offers a standard daily wear aligner as well as nighttime aligners and a special treatment bundle for teens. 

In addition to each clear aligner treatment, SmileDirectClub also provides teeth whitening to each of its customers and a warranty. If within 30 of treatment a customer isn’t satisfied with their smile, they can contact SmileDirectClub and receive a free re-evaluation. This warranty combined with 24/7 customer service makes SmileDirectClub a great option. The downfalls are that after treatment customers must pay for retainers at $99 a pair to keep teeth straight after treatment and that it’s recommended customers buy those every six months to keep the smile guarantee. And although SmileDirectClub’s customer service is available 24/7, some customers have noticed long wait times to get in contact with a representative.

My review is based on the customer service experience. I went in for Nighttime aligners because doing the Daytime aligners (22 hours per day) would not suitable for my lifestyle. I made this very clear when for the exam. However, I was not informed once the dentist had reviewed my case that I did not qualify for the nighttime set; instead daytime aligners were readily sent to me with no prior warning to give me the chance to accept or refuse this option. I was very disappointed that I couldn't work with what was sent so had to send it back. It took 3 calls and 3 emails to request a refund (return label) and process the return (Dec 14 to Dec 31). The first line of customer service was always pleasant and empathetic. The Account Managers not so much I received confusing information (what was discussed on the phone versus follow-up emails), and had to reach out again and again for clarification. I'm glad it's all finally resolved now.

When I saw the 3D image of what my teeth were supposed to look like after treatment, I was not satisfied. I reached out to customer service to inquire about this, to which they said they understood and I can opt out of the treatment if I'd like. A few days later I called to opt out of the treatment and they said that was okay, however, they already shipped the box. I was informed that I will reimbursed once I shipped the box back since it was not my fault that they shipped it even though I expressed concern about the product. I shipped the box but then was told by someone else that I could not get the reimbursement because it isn't within their policy. I informed the employee that I was told by another employee that I would be able to get a reimbursement, however, I was still denied. The communication continued to be inconsistent. I got my deposit back, however, the company didnt do anything else for me even though they made this entire situation inconvenient for me. After I expressed my frustration, they still did not do anything to better support me even though they had given me contradicting information. I would not recommend this product.

I tried smile direct for a few weeks and I eventually ended up sending the product back. I was afraid for my teeth after I had some issues with the aligners scraping and cutting my gums. I tried to get customer service to connect me with one of their dentist but no such luck. Eventually I turned to my awn dentist and he told the risk I gave with continues use of the product. The most important one being the lost of length in the root of my tooth, which would eventually lead to my teeth aging earlier then normal and even at risk of falling out. Because when the teeth shift it should only move a very very small percentage at a time to avoild damage but with smile direct the is no x-ray or checking you teeth quality so there is no way to know if there is damage being done underneath you teeth. when Also if you do consider getting this Product first you should talk to your own dentist which the person I spoke with at smile direct neglected to tell me that before getting me to invest in their product. According to my dentist in order to get aligners or braces one should have no teeth like cavities among other things and the need for a dentist involvement in these case is very important because anything can accrue and adjustment may be need For the aligners without consulting a dentist it's hard to know the underlining issues. The only reason I gave a 2 rating is because if you need minimal help it might work I'm not sure but you you have large gaps or teeth crossing over i don't think it would be good for. But either way TALK TO A DENTIST BEFORE YOU INVEST IN THEM.

I had a bad experience with communication. I had a great experience getting my teeth imaging at a location and I was about to go through with the purchase. Couple days after I got a text saying I qualified for a $300 discount, I thought it was weird but I called for info on that. Turns out I only qualified to get my bottom teeth aligned. It bothered me that you'd call that a discount instead of immediately reaching out to me about what actually happened. Don't sugar coat it calling it a discount and then let a single aligner-thing arrive to my house. I told the person on the phone I wanted to think about it, as I really wanted my whole smile fixed and I wasn't sure why it couldnt be fixed. I also wanted to think about how i'd look with just one side done. He said i could call back and speak to a dr about it before making any payments or a set final decision. That was great so far, but then right after that, someone went and put the payment through before i had talked to someone. And between the payment going through and the so called “discount” I later had to find out was just a way of telling me “we're only doing half”. I just cancelled everything. and that sucks because I really wanted this, but im not going to work with a company that does these things. is shady and deceiving

I feel that once I signed up and received my aligners I was by myself nobody ever contacted me at certain points to check my progress , never asked me to share pictures. I needed more aligners as my teeth still weren’t right ,I received 6 my teeth still aren’t right . I have been done for at least a month and have heard nothing. I reached out and left a message at my location that my teeth still weren’t right ,again, nothing. I figured that’s fine I’ll just mention it when they call about my retainer, still waiting . I had originally recommended 2 friends who then ordered the aligners and they would get a $25 amazon gift card and I would get $100 from each referral, so 2 . You guessed it NOTHING I have in fact called 2 or 3 times to ask about this and was told that I would get a call back in the next day or two. That was 4 months ago and 6 weeks ago , still nothing. Overall this has been a very disappointing experience. I don’t see myself recommending you to anyone. Here I am months past my “done “time with gappy teeth and no answers and very unhappy.

Started good then went down hill fast on my second go around with the liners it all went bad when I referred my wife we got her scan done then we waited over 2 months for her liners being told the whole time they were on there way only to find out they lost the order to top it off the 100 Amazon gift card that didnt happen either when I called the first time they said it would take a bit to prossess then after a few more weeks I call and they say that there was nothing in my file I told them we filed it and had the people at the scan check it and make sure it was in all they could do was give me 100 credit was not happy but was better then nothing still to see how it all unfolds but as of now embarrassing ti say the lease on the referee a friend had this not been my wife it would have been worse I will not refer this to anyone else with the way they handled my wife and the if the guarantee they have on the smile turns out as good as there promotions they will really hear from me.

The results did happen, but they also quickly shifted back to where my teeth were before Smile Direct. I'm an optimistic person and was so exited about bettering my smile and straightening my teeth. Now I can't help but feel like it was kind of a waste of my money. Even wearing the retainers like I'm supposed to, my teeth still look like they've shifted to their originals places. When I go to put on the retainer at night after not wearing it during the day, the retainer is very tight and painful to push onto my teeth. I would recommend and push for Invisalign over Smile Direct. I am now also worried that the aligners moved my teeth too rapidly and caused sensitivity in my teeth because I have never had sensitive teeth until now; the only thing that has changed in my oral hygiene routine is the addition of Smile Direct.

Was told something different when I bought the program than the final outcome. I asked to have the nighttime program. The woman I spoke to said the Dr. would let me know in 72 hours. No one notified me to the contrary and I wound up with program you are supposed to wear 22 hours a day. Had I known that I might not have bought into the club. My opinion is they are into sales—not care or communicating with patients!

I give SmileDirectClub 2 stars because the aligners did help some with straightening my teeth but around the 3rd month the aligners weren't fitting right. I wore them like I was suppose to. Sent in picture midways and was told I was on track. But the aligners fit worse and worse. In the end the retainer they sent did not fit at all. I couldn't get anyone to reply back when I tried to contact them.

The system itself worked great but the outsourced customer service is terrible! I was sent the wrong person's retainers and have spoken to over 5 different people (one month later) and still am waiting for my correct retainers. The outsourced service people have zero problem solving skills minus the scripted emails. The call in people were zero help and sent me the same scripted email. It needs work and people that can make actual decisions instead of just read off a script.

One month in and I now feel ‘you get what you pay for’. Only 1 tray of aliners have fit nicely, the rest have left my mouth with cuts and sores despite trying to file them down. I wish I had done more research and gone to a company that would check in more the once every 3 months.

They sent me a text message with a discount code for some aligners. I responded YES for the code, and they proceeded to place an order without my authorization. Then they advertised a VISA card for receiving a scan, and I had to jump through hoops to receive it. I give them 2 stars for the advanced equipment and nice scan but I would never!!!....

They told me the aligners would fix my problem tooth. Once I received my aligners, I found out they actually wouldn't fix it. HUGE waste of my time. They need to train their employees better, so they know what the aligners can and cannot fix.

My teeth didn't straighten entirely. I've tried call and email customer service multiple times with no calls/emails back. Very disappointed in the customer service. While my teeth are straighter... they're not straight all the way, which is very unfortunate for the cost of the product.

I was given twelve set of aligners to get my teeth straight. They are still not straight because they left out the last set in order to get my teeth straight. You did this on purpose to get more money for the impression kit or the 99 dollar aligners for more money

Because when I met with my Dentist, he told me that my teeth were too small to get the results I was looking to get with SDC so it really made me feel like SDC just took my money instead of being honest and admitting I wasn't a great candidate for it.

I also still don't have any instructions on how to properly use the whiting kit. Very poor customer service

I received my retainers late, and when I received them they did not fit. Not to mention my bottom teeth did not straighten so I went to have my teeth scanned again, and when I received the new alligners they didn't fit at all. So I should be done with my treatment but it wii probably take another 3 months due to inaccurate alligners.

I went through all the trays and my teeth are not straight like was promised. They moved but are not straight. Wearing the retainer everyday now and still I don't have the desired straight teeth promised. I wore the trays 14 hours a day. Did exactly what I was supposed to do and still just frustrated with the results.

1st, the woman who did our scan was very professional. She was a dental hygienist (not the English major college student who did my son's scan last time). She was courteous, efficient, and didn't try to hard sell us into buying anything on the spot. She's the only reason I'm giving this a 2 star review instead of a 1 star review. 2nd, but the treatment plan we received was almost a joke. While it did improve my daughter's cosmetic smile, it did nothing to correct her bad "bite" on the right side of her mouth. The bite is SO much more important for oral hygiene than the smile. No orthodontist would have approved this treatment plan without making any suggestion to improve her bite. This really makes me wonder whether an orthodontist actually reviewed this, or whether it was just some marketing/salesperson who sent us the treatment plan.

The woman that I sat with was very knowledgeable about the company which I loved. This company as a whole, I really feel like it’s a waste of money. This is for anyone who’s teeth are straight already & you’re looking to fix your gaps. It cost me 2k with or without a payment plan +$3-400. It’s literally more than what I was quoted for braces which is a procedure to ensure I finish with straight teeth. Maybe this is only for convenience, but I don’t see why I would spend 2k with you all & allow it to create more spacing or have to go through the process all over again if I plan to correct something else. Plus you have to sign a waiver so be sure to check into that deeply(when waivers are involved, it’s because there’s been lawsuit request) I rather just spend my funds on quality braces that my orthodontist can check regularly, rather then a zoom meeting to open my mouth. I mean it’s the same price for me anyway but the ladies in the office are super friendly and sweet. I was also told if I leave a positive review I’ll get a discount😂

The initial consult was friendly and great, and they were eager to have me sign-up saying that I was a great candidate for the service. However, I had to do my own investigation into whether or not the end result would provide me a safe and desired bite. It wasn't until I started asking questions (via online chat) that they said "we do try to address bite-related issues as much as we can, but due to your occlusion, we may not be able to fully resolve the issue. Due to your current occlusion in-office treatment setting or metal braces are needed." They failed to mention this short-coming of their delivered service, until I asked.

I received my original aligners a few months ago and my teeth started not to fit them after a few weeks of use. I followed up with the touch up kit, sent my impressions back along with updated photos. A few weeks passed by and haven’t heard anything back so I used the service on the app to see where my new aligners were and how they were coming along only to find out the photos I submitted were never received. I again uploaded photos for the second time for the touch up (third time total) and waited a few more weeks. I again checked back in to see how they were coming along only to get the same answer. I tried to submit the photos and I got the message on the screen saying something along the lines of “thank you for submitting your photos, you’re on your way to a lifetime of happiness” so I waited a month or so and finally called customer support to have a 30 minute wait time and see what exactly is going on and why I haven’t received anything, or any updates on my touch up kit. Overall I’ve been without aligners for roughly 3 months after 2 months of treatment. I was supposed to be done by august 8th and now am still waiting on my replacement aligners. Really wish the service was smoother but hopefully it will be straightened out (no pun intended) and I’ll have the smile I want.

I have not been able to move past aligner set #4 for over 2 months because sets 5 and beyond are not fitting correctly. I am currently waiting on a second correction to the aligners as the first "corrected" aligners still did not fit. I initially went for 3-D images because I was told it was more accurate, only to have to turn around and send 2 impression kits for the aligners to be corrected. I was supposed to be on a 5 mth program, meaning I should almost be done. I received an email stating you received my impression my, only to turn around and receive another email telling me you guys are behind due to the demand and that I should have my aligners within 4 weeks. I should NOT have to wait beyond the "expected" 2 weeks since this is the second time in a row I received ill fitting aligners. All this waiting and y'all are still charging the monthly payment every month to my credit card, with no offers of compensating me for the inconvenience x2. I asked for a free whitening kit at least, only to be told they didn't know if that was possible but Icould be transferred to a different department to ask someone else. Really??? At least make an attempt... first retainers free, chapstick, a coupon, toothbrush... something! I will be wearing set number 4 for at least 3 months before receiving more aligners. And that's if this fit correctly when I receive them. To top it off, your system is not updated because I still get texts telling me to change to the next set of aligners (I should be on set 10 now). Overall, really disappointed.

First off I would like to say that the overall experience with the consultation was amazing. The staff was super friendly and gave me very detailed information regarding the plan. But the bad thing is a couple of days later I was charged for the full amount of the services that I did not agree upon. When I called, the person was not helpful at all and told me that I selected to be charged in full, which was incorrect! Because of this my account went negative and I had fees added onto my account. To add.....It was Mother's day weekend and I had to cancel all my plans along with my son's birthday event. Very disappointed.

I'm disappointed in Smile Direct. I was on my last aligner and I had to have a crown on one of my molars. I was told by both Smile Direct and my dentist that I should be rescanned which I did the day after having my crown done. For 3 weeks, I kept getting emails, phone calls and text messages to order my retainer. At one point, a text message told me to make sure I was wearing my aligner for 10 hours every day instead of the 23 hrs. needed. I called Smile Direct again and was told to wear them 23 hrs. instead of the 10 which was in the message. I called several times asking what the plan was and they said I should receive my new aligners in 3 weeks. Finally, after over 3 weeks, I was able to speak to John, who said my treatment plan was still awaiting approval. He then was able to get it approved and said it would take 3-5 days to be created, then 4-5 weeks to get my new aligners. Three weeks have now turned in to at least 8 weeks and I'm still not sure I'll receive them.

The process for receiving and using the impression kit was straightforward and easy. SmileDirectClub communicates frequently via email and text with updates for shipping status and review. My "treatment plan" would have really messed up my bite. The upper plan called for moving my two front teeth up and out of my gumline and pivoting the teeth next to my canines while doing nothing with my bottom teeth. I don't know how any dental professional could look at what SmileDirect came up with and approve it. I had high hopes for a simplified approach to straightening my teeth, but it turns out I'll be taking a traditional orthodontist approach anyway.

Honestly I felt a bit uncomfortable. There was small talk about everything but my teeth to begin with. Then when actually talking about my teeth it was for a very short time. Pictures were taken and following that there was supposed to be a sign off on treatment that wasn’t performed. Instead it was communicated that the person whom assisted me was good to go and then communicated to me I guess there will be no sign off we are good. When asked about payment plan it was discussed in very little detail and I left without knowledge of how long treatment would even be. I was however able to call a customer service number I accessed through google and get the duration and other details needed for my treatment.

So far my experience has not been very good. I do like the pricing and the affordable monthly price but im going on week six and still have not received my aligners!!!! Then I received an email saying it might take another two weeks!!!! I wouldnt be upset if the person that initially signed me up didnt tell me that it would take 2-3 weeks. Now im afraid to get a refund because I have read reviews were that process takes months! Im so upset that I signed up for this and now I feel stuck. Im stuck waiting for aligners that seem like they will never get here. And im stuck not being able to cancel cause it my take months to even receive my money back. Worst decision I have made!

I have had an extremely frustrating time with SDC. From the beginning, my aligners never fit over the back of my bottom teeth correctly. They gap and stick out at the bottom causing me to have a lisp and cut my tongue. After a few calls and emails, I was sent new course correct aligners. I got a set of tops one week and the next a set of bottoms. After another course correction, the aligners I was sent didn’t fit snugly over my bottom teeth again. I was rescanned and told I could expect new liners in 3 weeks. Almost two months later, I got my new aligners and guess what?! They do t fit over my back teeth correctly. Now I have to call and get rescheduled again. I will be coming up on a year in March. I’m ready to bag it and ask for a full refund. Sure the people have been nice, but it’s a shoddy product. Go get real braces, it may be expensive, but at least they work!

Scary....my family questioned if I will get the results I wanted after seeing negative reviews. I, too, had experienced bumps along the way with some sets of aligners causing discomfort but made it through a 6-month treatment and was excited to enjoy Christmas wearing the retainers only. Well, it didn't fit upon arrival and customer svc rep advised to get rescanned to ensure a correct fit. Employees at the local office and the call site center were very responsive and pleasant but were not privileged to inform me or monitor my order made and shipped from 1630 Antioch Pike, Antioch, TN location. Now, after waiting 6-8 weeks for remade retainers, I get another text extending my wait time another 4-6 weeks. SDC advertises the importance of wearing retainers to keep your straightened teeth from shifting back--they were so close to creating a happy customer except for not timely sending me a good fit retainer. Since my last (6 mo|3-4 wk) aligners from Dr. Garrett O was a perfect fit, why doesn't SDC reproduce it as a mode for the retainer? I hope SDC can remedy this situation soon and stay in good standing.

I was very excited to start my 6 month process last year. Initially it seemed we do it's job but then as Others have posted my front 4 teeth closed quickly but left me with Gaps on the side which didn't look any better. So toward the end of my 6 months I SDC know and they had me come in for a Scan to get me some new aligners to close the side gaps. I waited about 5 weeks and I hadn't heard anything regarding my new aligners. I was told that they were sorry cause they were waiting on me to send in pictures and I was confused cause I went In door A Scan. They told me that the scan wasn't A Good Scan. At this moment in highly upset cause my last aligner has cracked and my front gap had opened back up. All the time I want I was waiting no one thought to email me or call. This was in August and I finally received my second set in October. I'm still disappointed cause The New set has closed the side gaps more but now my front still has A Little gap in It. I mentioned wanting my money back and they totally ignored that but that's really what I want cause I'm definitely not in the mood for more pictures or scans. I have 2 daughter's who need aligners as well but I'll wait and go elsewhere.

I was so excited to try the aligner method and chose SmileDirectClub because there was an office right down the street. I signed up thinking the 6 months after pictures they showed me were exactly what I wanted. It took about 3 weeks to get the first set of aligners. The first aligner snapped in tight and felt good. Second set not so tight but still good. By the time I got to month 2 the aligners didn’t snap on at all. They didn’t even sit all the way up on my teeth and I had terrible air gaps - as everyone is stating. I asked to have a re-evaluation. After being sent to my local office twice with no one being there. I was finally sent to a different location and told that the original location was closed. And had been closed for several months. So I wasted 3 weeks trying to get a re-evaluation. It then took them 3 months to send me my new trays. I should have cancelled at that point. But I truly wanted my teeth straight. So I waited and now I am on month 2 week 3:4 and I am having air gaps and the aligners are not snapping in or sitting all the way up on my teeth. I am so frustrated that I have wasted almost a whole year on this company and will probably have to wait another 3 months to get a refund on my money. I am truly disappointed!

I will add another review that echoes so many other reviews. The process started out smoothly. My impression kit was approved and the aligners arrived in a timely manner. The process seemed to be going as planned. I noticed a gap forming in my front teeth figured it to be a step in the process. The gap remained at the end and I contacted customer service. I was sent a new impression kit in order to correct and complete the process. This is all understandable. I do not believe every process will go absolutely as planned and the mark of a good company ( and good health care) is to come back and rectify any unforeseen problems . SDC gave voice to doing so, but the logistics have been a nightmare. I have been told that multiple things by customer service that just didn't happen. Are they lies or is the company just not able to fulfill the needs of current customers? Customer service is left making promises that are unfulfilled by the company. This leaves the patient (customer) feeling betrayed, the customer service people are helpless because, although well intentioned, are seen as untrustworthy. I will say that SDC offered to supply a free retainer at the end of the process. The value seems to be diminished by reading other reviews regarding delays in retainer fabrication/delivery. SDC seems like a company that may be a victim of its own success. It is not keeping up with the obligations currently has while at the same time, marketing heavily for more customers. I would not recommend this service at this time. Perhaps they will get it together in the future. I will post a positive review in the future if SDC comes through in the end.

If you have a purely cosmetic thing you would like to fix about your teeth, maybe this will work for you. Pay close attention to how they always refer to your teeth as your "smile" and talk about your "new smile," because that is secretly all they can fix, meaning in my experience, they will not do anything with your back teeth. I was very clear in my in-person consultation that my main concern with my teeth was my crossbite on my BACK teeth, because it was causing pain and sensitivity on a few of my back teeth. I told this to the consultant and also wrote it in my assessment that it was my main problem I needed fixed. I then paid my $2000, with the understanding that it would be refunded if I was not approved for aligners based on my needs. But as you can see in my "smile plan," I was approved even though my needs were not met. The back teeth do not even move in the treatment plan, and also it looks like I would end up with an ugly open bite, seen in the 4th picture. I think it's pretty obvious that based on what I said in my appointment, I would be unhappy with this. It took a lot of back and forth, with multiple emails (the last of which I never got a response to) and multiple phone calls to finally get a refund. Smile Direct Club clearly cares a lot about appearing to have great service (because they are always asking things like "how can I make you smile today??" etc) but when I actually had a problem, their dental team told me "it looks like we have done a great job with your new smile" and did not offer any way of making the situation better or refunding my money. I understand that these type of aligners have their limits, but Smile Direct Club should not have approved me when they could not fix my teeth in the way I needed, and the Smile Shop employees should be more aware of those limits. I am putting two stars instead of one, because I did eventually get my refund processed (although it will probably take the full 10 business days they quoted me), but be warned.

I was on my 3rd month, when the aligners did not fit, went to the paramus center where they took a scan in August and said I would be getting new ones in a month, Its November unto date have not received anything, am still using August aligners which are loose now, customer service won't return my calls, got a call from Hailey once which i missed have been trying to reach her no success. I am lost don't know what to do, they won't call all they offer is free retainers. Its been over 6 months my treatment has just stopped. I wish i can give them good reviews and def will once I get treated which looks very difficult now.

Honestly, I have loved my progression in how my teeth have been fixed (lots of crowding). HOWEVER, their customer service is SO bad when you are nearing the end. I started in October of 2018, with a projected finish date of April/May 2019. The trays are not terribly comfortable, they scrape your tongue and gums in all the wrong places. I lived on dental wax for MONTHS. However, I figured "no pain, no gain", right? And I could see the changes in my smile. End of treatment, they wanted final pictures, I sent them, they decided to do 3 more months of treatments (no scan, no impressions). I got my trays as expected, did another 3 months. August 17th I went in for a retainer scan, they said I should get my retainers in 2-3 weeks. Two weeks go by and I haven't received an order confirmation, tracking email, nothing. August 31st - customer service says they see no record of my retainer order, but they do see I had a scan. They "escalated" my issue, I was contacted the same day, was told that my "re-evaluation request was approved" after they looked at my scan (I didn't request a re-eval, I got scanned for retainers). They said since my teeth aren't perfectly straight, they will send me 2 more months of trays for no charge and I should have them 4-5 weeks from September 3rd (which would be THIS week). I thought, "Well, no harm in continuing to try to make them perfect." So I emailed back saying "If you think I could benefit from another 2 months, let's do that instead of retainers." They uploaded a 3-D model of the last 2 months' treatment to my dashboard a MONTH ago, so of course I thought they were actually ON THE WAY. Since Sept 3rd, I haven't received an email, a shipping notice, nothing. I have contacted their live chat FOUR times (including today), I have @ them on Twitter (no reply), and all I get from live chat is "We will contact you when your aligners ship" and "We've had a lot of orders come in recently and we're catching up..." Look, I was totally cool with having just retainers, I WAS happy with the way my teeth were - WAY back in August. I have been wearing the same trays for almost 3 months. They are mangled to say the least (I wish I could attach a picture). A 1/2" of the bottom tray has broken off on the left side, the upper one is cracked badly near my right canine tooth, and it's starting to catch on the inside of my lip (again, dental wax is your friend). They don't hold their shape or my teeth in place anymore, I know for a fact my teeth have shifted, I can see and feel it - the only reason I still wear my trays is so my teeth don't get any more f*cked up than they are already getting again. I've expressed my great concern to anyone there that will listen that I don't think the trays I've been waiting on will fit, because it's been so long, my trays are half-broken and my teeth have obviously shifted in the last 2 months. So if my trays don't fit? I'll have to get another scan and wait another 4-5-6-7-8 weeks for new trays and zero honest communication? I'm only HALF paid off at this point, and I just really want to be done - knowing I have to pay them for another YEAR when they're doing nothing, and sending me the last 2 months (someday) that I might not even be able to use...it just makes me sick. I would really like to cut my losses at this point and just get Byte/Invisalign/Candid... I have a bad feeling I'll have to start over anyways.

First 3 months were great - SmileBus was amazing, aligners came quickly, quality was great, information available all just fine. After 3 months I noticed a gap, went back for a re-scan (which I didn't mind about particularly). Nearly 2 months later I'm not only still waiting for my new aligners to come, but my continued calls for assistance (and now for refund) have not resulted in any manager return call. I just keep calling, and calling, and tweeting and calling. Initial customer support is great, ongoing customer support is non-existent. This means that, if I accept the new aligners should they EVER arrive, my SmilePlan would go from finishing in September to finishing who knows when but probably over Christmas which totally defeats the point. Very, very disappointed.

I loved that I could do the “evaluation” at home by filling out a profile, submitting pictures and (later) my impressions. I thought my teeth had a little bit of work and this would be a convenient solution. After finishing all the trays, I had a noticeable gap in my front teeth and my bottom teeth hadn’t corrected well at all. I tried to get a follow up with the company but I was told I didn’t send my final impression in for my retainer so it was too late. When I explained why I didn’t want a retainer when my teeth weren’t corrected, I was sent another impression kit for a retainer. I was informed I was paying for a second retainer (even though I never got the first one I paid for). After that I was told I could start over with a new set of trays (and another full payment). I went to an orthodontist for traditional braces. He said trays would not have been able to correct my bite issues and with the improvements since, I see the time and money with SmileDirect Club were a waste. This was an expensive lesson.
