The Good

  • Customizable Plans and Equipment
  • Monitoring Service Add-On
  • Business Age
  • Local Expertise

Customizable Plans and Equipment

Total Security offers custom security solutions for customers’ needs. One of its trained technicians will meet with you to provide a written estimate for a tailored system.

Monitoring Service Add-On

Total Security offers an add-on for customers that want to pay for monitoring. It partners with Authority Dispatch.  Authority Dispatch will monitor systems 24/7 for emergency dispatch. It has a silent ambush alarm and can give customers access to dispatch history and email notifications.

Business Age

Total Security has been in business since 2003. This is important to know as we have confidence it will be around in five years. When looking to hire a company for any service, being in business this long is a plus and builds confidence for the customer.

Local Expertise

Total Security is local and giving business to the local economy is always a good thing. Local companies tend to take better care of customers as they rely heavily on word-of-mouth marketing. Companies want customers to be happy with their service and to suggest friends and family use the same company. Using a local security equipment company is helpful when problems occur down the road with equipment that may need to be replaced.

The Bad

  • Pricing Undefined
  • Limited Service Area
  • Customer Reviews

Pricing Undefined

Total Security only posts about the cost of an XTL Touch, its most common system. The website says the system is $199.99 installed. This may be the case, but from research and reviews, this price seems not in line with what people claim they pay.  Many home security companies don’t give pricing specifics on their pages because each job is different, and they prefer to give a custom quote.

This isn’t a bad thing because it will allow you to only pay for the products and services you want. It’s important to keep an eye out for hidden costs; hourly labor costs, upgrade costs, and replacement costs when going over quotes.

Limited Service Area

Total Security is not available for everyone. It only services in the state of New Hampshire.

Customer Reviews

Customer Reviews on Total Security are a mixed bag. There are some customers very happy with its service and products, and some that are not. One common complaint is that there is a lack of quick response time. Prompt and dependable customer support is crucial for consumers, so this is a red flag.

The Bottom Line

Total Security is a local company with decades of experience. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the glowing reviews we would want to see to recommend it.

Total Security is an equipment installer that doesn’t itself provide a monitoring service, so its focus is on the installation and getting paid for the installation.  The company's website states it has a warranty policy but doesn’t give any specifics as to what that is. Total Security has a lot of add-on options; this is a typical strategy for companies to market services for a very low price, but with add-ons, the price may be much higher. This is something to be aware of when getting a quote.

Total Security may be a good solution for you if you live in New Hampshire and are able to get some specifics in writing about warranties and pricing.
