I gave UHC a one star because zero was not an option. I had the worst customer experience I have ever had as I tried to dis-enroll from a drug plan during Medicare open enrollment period. I was transferred to five call centers after explaining to each agent why I was calling: to cancel a drug insurance plan that I don't use (because I do not take any meds) and the premiums, which I've been paying for two years were going up by +/- 20%). Each time that they were going to transfer me to "someone who could help me", and after I again recited my ID number, name and date of birth, I was told they needed to transfer me to someone who could help me with my dis-enrollment. I didn't make that term up. Yes I got animated by the end of the call, and I never was connected to a supervisor in the time I waited to write them a nasty-gram. I often write reviews, and don't think I've ever been motivated to write so venomous a message. But this experience was so bad, I can only recommend, based on my last experience, that you keep shopping in spite of AARP's recommendation of this company. They got it wrong this time, as far as I'm concerned.

I am 71 and have COPD. United HealthCare violates patient rights to services. Congress has accused them of illegalities of Delay, Deny, Deceive. They made me wait a year extra to get oxygen therapy for my COPD. Their website is terrible. Customer Service Advocates have no authority to fix obvious misgivings and delay follow-ups or no follow-up at all. Medicare has fallen apart ... we need nationalized medicine to get rid of all the profiteering middlemen who don't want any lawful professional oversight. American healthcare ranks 79th in the world.

I have UHC and it is terrible. Very limited provider network, horrible customer service. If you try to call for assistance, you are routed to an overseas call center. Everyone is incompetent, they give inconsistent answers, frequently hang up on you, and there are no extensions to get back to the same person. Every time you get disconnected it’s back to the beginning of the robo menu and when you eventually get back to a human they will have no idea what was discussed previously. Their provider directory is inaccurate and out of date. It feels like this system was specifically designed to prevent people from getting the care they need. Would give 0 stars if I could

AARP Medicare Advantage through United Health Care. Have to jump through hoops to get the benefits that you choose to use, ESPECIALLY the incentatives. Have had a prescription denied that was a variation of a regular medication due to an alllergy to that formulation. Have had blood test denied for a common medical condition. Last, but not least, have made 2 phone calls, which totaled almost 2 hours, and talked to 8 people, including supervisors in the US and Phillipines about my Amazon over the counter order that I never received, including the part of that order Amazon supposedly sent, only to be given the run around by UHC and Amazon, who charged my account $49.75 and never issued a credit. I've gone to medical school in the US and worked in emergency rooms. I can only image what the average customer experiences, who do not have medical savoir faire. Can't wait to change my insurance p;an!

For a Medicare advantage plan the advertise that this includes rides to doctors appointments. My husband has just started this service and it is absolutely dreadful! Out of three rides ordered the have only got the address right once. So, first time he ordered they call him and they are at the wrong address. Then he had to call his son in law to give him a ride. Then he calls when his appointment is done they came to the right place. This morning a uber drive shows up and says she went to the wrong address. But she also shows up with a car that she says he can only sit in the back. My husband uses a wheelchair and sometimes a walker. He could not swing his legs into the back of this car. It was a good thing I was there or he would have missed his appointment. Why are non medical people being authorized to transport disabled people? This company will call you and bother its member at home but sets them up for failure when it comes to providing reliable transportation for the rides that they advertise as part of your plan.

Greedy company that doesn't care how their referral process impacts patient quality of life. This company is actively working to prevent or significantly delay me from receiving timely care through their difficult referral process. They require your PCP to review both tests and treatment recommendations from the specialists and submit a duplicate referral just to get it covered. Since when does a PCP's opinion of my condition trump the specialist they referred me to in the first place? I was just hit with several thousand dollars in uncovered medical costs for basic tests and treatments that my rheumatologist and neurologist ordered and insurance refuses to pay because they have added an unnecessary layer of PCP referral red tape. It's February and my PCP's office has had to send over 20 referrals on my family's behalf for simple care for my family and the care of my chronic condition. The administrative burden on my life is insane, and I've lost at least 30 hours of my time in the last month trying to navigate UHC representatives, doctors' referral representatives, and my care is delayed due to the weeks it takes to get referrals processed. Not getting timely care due to the extra red tape made my condition worse and is actually increasing the number of doctor visits. Horrible.

These people only care about their bottom line. They deny EVERYTHING! Then you have to file an appeal, which takes more time. Meanwhile, you’re not getting the necessary treatment that you need. I think they’re being ran by a bunch of republicans who believe only the wealthy deserve healthcare. If you’re poor, too bad. So, I can’t get the medical treatment that I need, but the wealthiest people in America can get huge tax breaks? Somehow, that doesn’t seem fair. I can only hope that the people who deny everything have to go through the same process sometime in their life so they can see how it feels. And i hope they’re denied!!!

Been a medical insurance biller for 25 years and UHC has been the worst insurance I had to deal with. Since 2006 when they moved their provider services overseas it has been a headache dealing with UHC. Besides the language barrier, I have to tell the representative how to do their job and asking them to write exactly what I am explaining. When I call to have reconsider a denial due to UHC error they come back saying I have to send a reconsideration. Back before 2006, UHC provider representatives would know what they had to do. UHC denies expecting for providers to be overwhelmed and not question their denials and unfortunately due to lack of staff or experience UHC wins.

United Health Care is more concerned about their bottom line than it's customers. Example: I have insomnia. Two days ago my PCP sent a perscription to Walgreens for a generic verison of Ambien. An already reduced cost generic version. I received a notice from Walgreens there was some sort of problem with the insurance approval. That was in the afternoon. The next morning I went to Walgreens. They said UHC has not approved the perscription. I called UHC right there at the pharmacy. Had to do a similar thing a couple months for another perscription problem. The woman from UHC said I needed prior authorization for this perscription. Really, a simple sleep aide? Walgreens needed to send a fax to my PCP and the PCP needed to request it. Crap. Ok, Walgreens said they sent the fax yesterday and they did it again while I was there. At 4:21PM yesterday, I received a call from a guy named Rom about my perscription. He said the prior authorization was denied. I ask why. He said I had to call UHC at the number on the back of my card. I ask, aren't you with UHC. No, we partner with them to take care of these calls (to give out the bad news and force the customer to take yet another step to try to get information and try to resolve the problem). I ask more questions and he knew nothing and was useless. I ask what company he worked for. He would not answer. I repeatedly pressed him for the company name. I heard laughing in the background. Oh, they thought this was funny. Of course I had not been sleeping much and did not find it funny at all. He finally said he did not have to tell me. Fine, he was useless anyway. I hung up and called the UHC number on the back of the card. Got a very nice lady, Jolene. on the phone and despite me being quite upset, she remained very nice... I give credit where credit is due. But that's the only nice thing I have to say. I ask a number of questions. The gist of it was there were two other sleep aids that I had not demonstrated I was Intollerent and they were cheaper. Really, to save a few bucks UCH would not approve a generic brand of Ambien and sent me back to the drawing board. Ok. I ask for something in writing on this. Rom from the previous call said I'd they sent an email...nope. Jolene said yes, I'd receive something in the mail. Email I ask to clarify. Nope, snail mail. When I ask? In the next 30 days. Really, I'm not sleeping. I can't get the perscription I've had before and I know works and I can't get the rejection information to file an appeal until sometime in the next 30 days. They have no problem emailing advertisements frequently, buy a rejection, snail mail in a month. I received a robot call when typing this and it told me again of the rejection and said I'd get the mail in 3 business days. Ok, different info from the 3 sources. In the mean time, no relief for the patient. UHC cares more about the bottom line that their customers. I'll be changing to a new insurance company next enrollment period. Oh, one more thing. At the start of the call with Jolene, the robo system ask if I'd be willing to leave a review. You bet. It said to hold on the line when my call was finished. I did for 5 minutes...no review came on the line. Guess they knew it was going to be bad.

Pay a premium price for sub-standard care! UHC is putting small hospitals out of business by demanding lower prices than the hospital’s costs to operate. UHC refused to negotiate in good faith with the hospital system in North Georgia, which forces its patients to drive an hour away to receive care at a sub-standard hospital. This is not what we paid a great deal of money for! Since UHC is the “biggest bully” on the block, they feel they can demand whatever terms they want and have hospitals (including non-profit hospitals that offer indigent care) accept their terms, or they walk. This includes being able to change their pricing demands at any time during the contract. They also lost ALL of my claims from last year, and it took me hundreds of hours to try to get them back. I am sure many are still missing. Very, very poorly run company that doesn’t care about their customers, or other hospitals. We have been with UHC for over 20 years, and within the last 3 years, their customer service has fallen to the bottom of the pile. There is no customer service! Save your money and go with a reputable healthcare company. Hopefully this one won’t be in business for long.

I have found that their website is convoluted, and the names of hospital systems are not up to date on the website, so if a health system has changed names it may not be up to date and it is hard to find out if a proceedure or test is covered at a specific facility. It will say a system is in netowrk but then the lab at the office may not be in network because it may be owned by a different company but is still within the same building. The website is not intuitive and therefore is not user friendly. It's never a simple trustworthy answer to any question from anyone. There is no peace of mind with this company. I have been told that proceedures are covered at a facility only to find out later that they need to be done through a Designated Diagnostic Provider Program which is nearly 20 miles away. This is unacceptable because I live in a town with 2 major hospitals and many facilities. If I get a CT scan locally, not at the designated provider in their program it would cost $500 as a deductible. Finding out who is in network is frustrating because their website is so piecemeal and unclear and calling the number on the card is just as hit or miss because the patient assistants who are all very sweet and kind but they are just following prompts on a screen. Some tests are ok to have at a facility in the hospital others need to be done at a free standing clinic. There is no clear predictable information on what is allowed and what is not too many caveats. I have spent hours on the phone only to be given the wrong information. I will not choose them again.

Would give a ZERO to United Healthcare. Have had them for 2 years and their customer service reps are in India and are not only un-trained but considerably low IQ or COMMON SENSE. Over and over problems with claims being paid correctly and when you finally get a live person they are totally UNPROFESSIONAL. You have to be willing to tolerater their stupidity for 50 minutes before they "get it". I was told today that my prescription was not covered because my plan was terminated..OMG I changed to Blue Cross whose reps are in the US and that isnt effective until January 1st!!! He even told me if I wanted this prescription covered I would have to stay with United Healthcare. I asked for a supervisor and he sent me to an A**hole sales rep who scolded me for being upset..When I told him I was recording the call he quickly cut me off and sent me back to the Customer Service call que....Wow oh wow, I am so adamant about people being ripped off because of these idiots..especially older people who just cant or wont argue with them and give up. Save yourself lots of grief and stay away from this low life company!

You should not select this company. They doesn't back up their customers when the "professionals" on its network do something unethical. They seems to have no filters for the doctors that join its network. I had two really bad experiences and UnitedHealthCare didn't do nothing to help me up. I asked for an appointment with a dermatologist but I was attended by a Nurse Practiotioner SUSANA M in Pembroke Pines (but I paid the rate for an specialist). She just wanted to prescribe a really expensive medicine, UnitedHealthCare didn't approve it and she even let me know about it, she ONLY had interest in pacients that she can prescribe the expensive ones so I disappeared from the map to her. She even was able to find another solution for me or even to notify me. My second bad experience was with the Cardiologist Michael E who lied about the cost of a procedure just to avoid that I refuse it but I received an unexpected invoice as Christmas Gift... UnitedHealthCare? UNITES DOESN'T CARE.

My kids have been members for 2 years but have never seen a doctor or received any medical care. I've called and emailed several times to get my kids put on my member portal so I can choose their doctors and print out their cards but it's never been done. Sometimes they tell me they'll get them added no problem and just don't other times I'm told I have to call DCF to have them added but DCF tells me they have nothing to do with the United health care cards or website. So I've been getting the run around since joining they're receiving funding for having my family as members but saving money by not allowing us to access or use our insurance. They are out right scamming tax payers the government and worst of all the poor people they're supposed to help. Doctors openly talk about how much of a scam it is on them and patients. I'm paying around $500 out of pocket every month for my medicine because they do cover it but there's so many loopholes to jump through it's impossible to get them to do it. I'm disabled my total income is only $841 a month and I have 2 kids to support I have 0 copays and cost everything is supposed to be covered but they find ways to make patients either deal with severe pain and medical issues or have to pay out of pocket. I spent over 2 months in bed with my muscles pulling so tight they ripped screaming in pain because they wont cover my meds and make it difficult to even see doctors the only reason I'm getting my own meds now is because my caretaker agreed to pay for them because he said this is inhumane treatment of the disabled and poor. Almost all low income government insurances treat their patients with same you don't matter attitude.

I found UHC to be extremely difficult to work with. In fact, the worst insurance companies we have EVER dealt with. There is no clear explanation of coverage when a UHC representative is asked. On SEVERAL occasions, I was told one thing (with regards to coverage), then when the claim was made, it's now suddenly different. We are also passed from department to department and have difficulty getting a straight answer - at that. We are Expat Insurance members, and several times I've received a reply back from UHC saying: "Please MAIL (?!!) your claim to this American address". Do you know how long it would take to mail something to a PO BOX from overseas?? This is constantly a problem. Local departments dealing with International claims. Also, sensitive documents seem to become "lost" over at UHC. For example, I submit a claim with all the supporting documents, and then I have a request to RE-submit these documents again. Where are these personal SENSITIVE documents going? Are they being intercepted by a third party? Overall, I would NEVER recommend UHC to anyone as there are serious disorganization problems within UHC and sensitive documentation is being lost.

We have had UHC for several yrs through our employer. They are the worst health insurance companies we’ve ever experienced!! The list untrained unprofessional and rude reps ever. Long hold times - MANY times I am finally disconnected or they just never answer ! They will not know what they are doing and if they say they are transferring you just hang up. They show no apology for being hung up on or hold times in excess of 25 min. They simply don’t care and NOONE at the top cares or they would appropriately train their service reps. Also every rep will tell you a different thing- so document date and what they said and employee #. Go do a search on the unethical fraudulent background of the leaders of this company. UHC tops the list for consumer complaints. I am in the midst of fighting them on a common sense claim they are sending me through circles on. And no one seems to k on why it isn’t being covered and the phone call drops after them trying to find a supervisor to help me. I asked them to have a supervisor call me directly due to the HOURS I’ve spent on this and they claim that’s against their policy. They are designed and taught to play dumb, deny claims or pretend they never received them or that their system isn’t working correctly. We are dropping them at open enrollment and have reported back to HR how abysmal their service is. They should be shut down !!

I will be switching away from UHC as soon as I possibly can. It takes about 25% of my paycheck on top of me not saving all that much money on visits. My therapy out of pocket is $75 and I pay $50 with UHC. I just found out that my therapist is fighting with UHC to get their portion. This year, on top of them raising prices on the plan, they are now covering LESS than last year. I recently discovered that I have Sleep Apnea due to a deviated septum, and need surgery to fix it. I started the process two months ago, and UHC approved it. My surgery was supposed to be on Tuesday. They didn't let my provider know until the Friday before my surgery that I will owe over $5,000 BEFORE my surgery. Mind you, I've paid for 2 doctors visits at $50 each, and bloodwork / lab work for this surgery which I didn't get a bill for yet. They were notified and approved the surgery 2 months in advanced. They gave me 2 business days to pull together over $5,000. That's my entire $2,500 deductible on top of over $2,500 in coinsurance. When I called UHC, I was basically told to suck it up. They won't do anything to help. I now have to cancel my surgery less than 24 hours in advanced on Monday. The surgery out of pocket is not much more than UHC is covering. At least if I was out of pocket, I would have had some warning as to how much I was paying, and would be able to plan accordingly. I wish I heard about all of this nasty stuff about UHC before I signed up through my employer

I pay very high premiums for the best care United has to offer and it is horrible!! My doctor told me I need a heart catheterization performed and set up appointments at the Methodist Hospital. The night before the doctor's office called and stated the insurance would not cover. The insurance made me have a CT coronary angiogram first, which costs me $500 out of pocket and the insurance company much more. The CT recommended a catheterization, so the doctor's office sent an emergency request to have prior approval. This was denied as well and still waiting on approval. The disclaimer on the United web page states "This is a benefit determination, not a medical decision. Only you and your doctor can decide what medical care you need." It is sad when the insurance is acting as the doctor! In addition, my wife is having a tumor removed from her brain next week and was asking that I was healthy enough prior, no thanks to United. Fact is, heart disease remains the top killer of both men and women and I pay a lot of money every month for no protection. I almost whish I would have a heart attack so I could sue the hell out of United. I suggest to everyone to stay away from United Healthcare Services and Rally Healthcare, Inc.

I cannot get them to give me basic information about my account. My coverage is ending at the end of the month and I need proof of this for my new provider. The company says they cannot provide me with a document of this until after my coverage has already lapsed. I am currently injured and have been waiting for an appointment to see a doctor for 3 weeks and the first appointment is on June 1st. I will likely have to push my appointment back further so I can get this document and get enrolled elsewhere. Take your health seriously and do not work with these clowns. To provide a simple document should not take this much effort and to make an exception to help someone who needs medical attention should be the top priority of an insurance provider.

United HealthCare will delay patient healthcare to look for reasons not to pay out on claims/care. 2 Examples. 1. I saw a surgeon who ordered an MRI for my wrist, UHC wanted to delay/wait while the care needed to happen so I paid cash and submitted the claim manually after the fact. Denied. After 8 phone calls, a reconsideration request from the doctor who initially ordered the MRI they finally paid. 2. A neck surgeon ordered an MRI after an initial visit and UHC will delayed until the surgeon can get on the phone with the insurance and explain why its medically necessary. Imagine a surgeon, after 12 years of school having to explain to a health insurance agent why the imaging is necessary. This can sometimes delay care by days/weeks, in situations that care is urgent (it happened to me). Still actually waiting for this to be approved. I used to have a different health care insurer. I paid for an MRI out of pocket with no doctor orders. My old insurance found out somehow (I never even submitted a claim) and reimbursed me. Run from UHC, they only care about fighting claims and collecting money.

They are horrific, they make you jump through hoops for everything, everyone does not accept them because they are lame and cheap. Ex: My daughter's menstruation was horrible, literally as heavy as an ocean followed by nausea, vomiting, and intense back pain. One of the things her doctor prescribed was birth controls pills where she would skip the placebo and take the pills continuous so that eventually her cycle would lighten or go away. United Health Prior Authorization Department denied her because as they wrote " It is not medically necessary" WTF!!! Yeah, If that doesn't speak for their character... I'm not sure what to tell you!

They seem to be denying a lot of claims lately. I am a cancer survivor and one of the side effects of chemotherapy has been a loss of balance. I slipped on the ice on my driveway and I fell on the sidewalk because I lost my balance. Optum said they would not pay for the claim for PT because it might be related to workman's comp or something like that. Then they would not pay for Botox injections for overactive bladder. That is the best thing for me because it does not interact with my cancer medications. Lastly they would not pay for the diagnostic mammograms that are recommended because I am at high risk for re-occurrence. What is the point of having UHC? The PT is relatively inexpensive, the Botox injections are about 1500 dollars for every 6 months and the diagnostic mammogram is about 600 dollars. I hate this company. I hate United Health Care. As soon as we can get off UHC we will.

Adding rudeness to incompetence makes for a new low in UHC customer care. I, and other relatives, will likely not renew with UHC next year as a consequence. Briefly, I was told by my provider of a $345 estimated copay for a test procedure. I called UHC customer service to understand how that number was arrived at (and whether I should change anything such as facility ..) The first “advocate” I got was totally unhelpful, left me on hold for 8 minutes with no communication and when returning with no useful information abruptly put me on “music on hold” as I was mid-sentence. That level of rudeness is simply unacceptable. I called again and requested to speak with a supervisor. The much more polite person contacted a supervisor and asked me to wait while in parallel trying to sort out my very simple request. 30 minutes later, she was still unable to provide useful information and no supervisor was still available. I asked for a supervisor call back. 24hrs later I am still waiting Good customer service is more than relabelling agents as “advocates”. It is Not leaving customers on hold for several minutes with no feedback Not hanging up on a customer by rudely putting them on hold Having agents (advocates they are not) be able to answer simple questions regarding the breakdown of a copay Having supervisors available when a customer requests speaking with them Having supervisors call back when requested to do so I realize UHC treat customer care as a cost center whose cost is to be optimized ... but I suggest they look at top line cost of poor customer service as customers choose other healthcare providers

A simple visit will cost you a fortune under almost any of their short term plans. They sell it to you as a great option but they pay NOTHING until the deductible. They misled me about the plan to get me to buy it, signed up for a decent plan as they constantly tried to up-sell me, and then have a single simple medical expense that is going to cost me $1000 minimum. And not even all of it goes to the deductible because of how they manipulate the numbers--and they only cover up until $2,000,000 on their very best programs so you're screwed if you have something chronic or have a real colossal catastrophe. Horrifically bad medical insurance and deceptive sales tactics, I regret doing this so much. It's basically only emergency catastrophe medical service, in which you're better off doing another health plan or trying one of the new things like sidecar. And if you ever had a problem, their customer service is downright incompetent. DO NOT GET UNITED SHORT TERM.

Have UHC insurance through a company plan. Last year I received a knee injection for pain through Mayo Clinic. UHC paid. I received the same injection this year and UHC refused to pay for it and called it experimental. Like Mayo Clinic is providing experimental health care. I contacted the manufacturer and they were surprised that their product which has been used for years is not classified as 'experimental' by United Health Care. They are inconsistent. Their communication is terrible. You probably don't have a choice of company plans but be very careful with this insurance company or you will be screwed.

My parents were Illinois teachers and as such were forced by the TRS to take United Healthcare. United healthcare is horrible. They fail to return calls of hospital staff including doctors. They claim that papers haven’t been sent when four hospital social workers are handling my mothers paperwork. They claimed thy had Doctor review the claim but would not set an appointment on the phone when the head of cardiology at Edward hospital demanded a peer to peer review. They hire utterly incompetent people who are rude and literally disconnect calls again to hospital staff. They have denied my mother rehabilitation and did it in such a manner of intentionally delaying the review of the claim so she would not qualify. I now have three doctors and seven hospital staff that will testify in my law su8it against United Healthcare for their blatant disregard of their clients health needs. RUN away from this company. I am my mothers agent under powers of attorney and I as a lawyer have never dealt with such a barbaric company. They are disrespectful and money grubbing and have the worst reputation with five of the largest hospitals in Chicago.

UHC Administration Staff are poorly trained, inconsistent, inefficient with answering questions about claims and processing claims. There are too many hands in the processing of claims making it very confusing for UHC and for the customer. I have 34 claims of out of network reimbursements since beginning of May 2021 and only receive reimbursement for 6 claims out of the 34 early on then as months went on nothing. UHC gave me lame excuses like their machine that takes the forms came out blurry on their end, or some went through processing and others didn't because certain reps got confused and denied some, then they need treatment records, then a weeks go by and need more info on the treatment records and it goes on. Almost like they do this to see if people will give up and they don't have to reimburse. I have spent 30+ hours including long calls and emails to UHC. I kept good notes and sent everything to the Commissioner of Labor and spoke to HR. Finally I think they are expediting my claims. I received one check for 3 claims. Now I just need about 20 more to be reimbursed. We pay a lot for our healthcare and NO one should ever have to go through this!

They won’t. This will drive people to the black market overseas. Called 5 different times , first three associates spoke such broken English unable to communicate with them! The next one spoke English, but was so lost, and her response to my questions made it seemed as if she had intellectual disability! Finally the fifth try I talked someone that could actually help . But when she would put in my member ID # she said it was showing paid yet my child's health ins was canceled due to no payment received on their end . Gave the confirmation number it was still unsuccessful. The next month paid on the 12th had to go to court on the 29th due to his mom complaining about the drop coverage. The same month after payment dental lapsed! Its sad when your corporate headquarters is in MInnetonka, MN yet hard to get some that answers the phone that speaks fluent English!

I was interested in getting insurance through United. I had filled out a form online to get a quote. That was 2 days ago on a Friday. On Saturday I received a text from Monique. She started out very helpful and I was getting a good feeling that I might have found a good company. I asked her to email specifics about plans and providers. Nothing came through. She contacted me today via text and gave me pricing and a small bit of information. Again I had asked her to email specifics so I could go through all the information and do research. I text her her specific questions and I heard nothing. I spent an hour and a half reading reviews of this company and as soon as I text her that I was going to pass due to negative reviews my phone blew up with texts. She was obviously very angry, telling me to spend another hour half researching reviews of Blue Cross and any other insurance company. " No one leaves reviews online when things work according to plan" " If you shop based on reviews you will be uninsured forever" " But it is Sunday and I am trying to spend time with my family" I did not start a conversation with her today, she did with me!!! So glad that this is as far as I went with this company!!!!! Run as fast as you can the other way.

As a newly hired employee, I was trying to get clarity on the cost ranges for common medical procedures, and what is classified as “Preventive care” under the UHC PPO Plus plan compared to other UHC plans. After over 20 minutes on hold, the representative told me “there’s no way to know because the cost depends on the procedure code, the contract with the provider, and other plan-specific information”. I reiterated that I simply wanted a range, or estimate, to help make an informed decision on which plan is best for my lifestyle. The representative then suggested I google the costs for common medical procedures. How is that helpful?! As an insurance company, how do you not know the cost range for the most common medical procedures? I am an analyst, so I know that they have that information otherwise budgeting, forecasting and other strategic planning would be impossible. But rather than acting with integrity and providing transparency to their customers, UHC chooses to say “it just depends” leaving customers with unexpected exorbitant bills for routine appointments! If I had another choice for insurance providers, I would take it but I don’t, so unfortunately I’m stuck guessing if I can afford to go to the doctor. Perfect!

My husband & I have been with this company for over 20 years. In Jan 2021, I had an accident that dislocated my shoulder, ruptured my rotator cuff, caused a lesion to my humerus, and it stretched my brachial plexus nerve so that I now have paralysis from my elbow to fingertips of right arm. This is an extremely rare injury. I was able to get my shoulder completely fixed, but once I began trying to see a neurosurgeon (out-of-network, BUT no specialist except one 4 1/2 hours from my home), UHC began to delay & deny. If I didn't receive immediate care, I might face paralysis for the rest of my life!!! It took me over 3 months to see the specialist I needed to & I had to appeal their initial decision due to their mistakes!!! I did receive in-network coverage for consultation. The surgeon said I needed surgery immediately to hopefully restore some function in my lower right arm. After a month and a half of going round & round with UHC, they determined that every portion of the surgery was completely unnecessary!!! AND the surgery would be out-of-network!! I guess PARALYSIS is ok to live with the rest of your life!!! This company is incredibly unprofessional & immoral & the employees are unhelpful & lacking knowledge. They simply read from a script! UHC doesn't care a lick about the customers. They ONLY care about profit!! IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING INSURANCE WITH THIS COMPANY, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

*Absolutely Horrible* My employer switched providers from Aetna to United HealthCare in January. I work for a great company who has always taken amazing care of its employees. However, after the 27th time HR tried to convince us that we would have the same effective coverage, I grew suspicious. These clowns epitomize what is wrong with medicine today. She's been going to physical therapy, and her primary care provider prescribed Oxycodone. Her pain specialist can and will treat her, but not without an MRI. We have been going back and forth with United Healthcare for 2 and a half weeks trying to get the MRI approved. They denied it. repeatedly. Her doctor had a "peer to peer" follow up conversation with United Healthcare, but they continue to deny coverage. I am going to pay for the MRI with my own cash because my wife's pain is important to me, and I want her to be able to get treatment. The amount I pay will not even count toward my out of pocket maximum because they didn't approve the procedure. So, we've wasted 17 days waiting for insurance to pay for a test to diagnose the problem causing the pain. I am now exploring secondary coverage beyond what me and my employer pay United Healthcare monthly so that we can have real coverage. United Healthcare is a red-tape machine engineered and deliberately constructed to PREVENT THE PAYMENT OF ANY CLAIMS. Their policy may look good on paper, but in practice they are ABSURD. They do not cover ANYTHING--they are interested in profit and profit only. Anything else they say is just marketing. Please save your money and pick a better company that actually cares about you and your family's health.

UnitedHealthCare is a disgrace and a joke in every sense. Forget whatever they self-describe themselves as, as a consumer of a good or service, I find them to be not only woefully incompetent, but they lie, have out of date data, and I cannot understand how this does not equate to FRAUD. If you charge for a service – to provide medical resources for allegedly QUALIFIED, IN-NETWORK entities – and the database they allegedly maintain for subscribers (paying customers) has companies in it that are closed, have moved, or otherwise don’t exist (primary doctors, orthopedists, radiology), how is that not FRAUD? I even asked a call center representative to ensure a place was open and taking patients. After being on-hold for quite a while, she came back on, gave me a phone number and an address, and said they were taking new customers. I drove to the address. The building was almost vacant and that provider was certainly no there. I called the number and could not get through the IVR to a person; it kept looping no matter what option I choose. Did the rep lie to me? I think so. This is not a one-off as it has been happening for many years, and when you need routine care, when you need emergency services, to spend hours and hours in frustration not being able to take care of yourself or a loved one… There is no accountability in UnitedHealthCare. Their service is essentially a sham, and I intend to take this as high as I can, especially to the Attorneys General office.

United Healthcare is the insurance I had, when I worked for First Credit Corporation in Boulder, CO. It was the only choice offered by the company; or I would not have bought it. My doctor put me on some medication and told me to have my blood tested every so often; because I was on that particular medication. United Healthcare refused to pay for the blood test; and I was billed over $2,000.00 (and had to pay it eventually). United Healthcare also gives money to organizations that go against my religious beliefs and moral values, such as Planned Parenthood. Not only is United Healthcare terrible insurance, it shows support for organizations that lack morals.

The constant misleading information has cause so many delays in medical procedure, prescriptions and fighting for each claim to be covered. United Healthcare is a joke! They declined my 18 month old disabled child medical help at a pediatric medical daycare because "he's not having active seizures." A "daycare" that he could seriously benefit from to get to where he needs to be. They have all the resources, and equipment that we do not have to help him. They have PT, OT, Speech Therapy, as well as occupational therapy there, but no UHC doesn't care because he's not having active seizures. I can't wait to get him off this insurance, and onto a much better one. It's pretty sad as well that the "daycare" even said they would probably decline him since they're the most strict, and that i should get him onto better insurance anyways as UHC is just bad overall. UHC is a company not to trusted! When my wife and I relocated across the country we immediately notified UHC of new address by telephone (which was recorded). Somehow that info was not acknowledged within the company which resulted in policy cancellation. Upon long involved discussions the issue was resolved (because of the recorded phonecall). Documentation apology was received and policy was reinstated. Now I receive a bill that Dec payment was not received from Social Security for $76.00. I forwarded documents from Soc.sec showing 12 payments made in 2019 UHC denies that and so I’m cheated by this huge company. I think they are liars and cheaters and I despise them for it. All began because of their INCOMPETENCE!!!

UHC is one of the biggest thieves in the insurance industry! They may pay on procedures and services but their payment amounts have not been consistent with their coverage rates. IF you have to process reimbursements for costs and services you paid for out of pocket FORGET ABOUT IT! They will NOT act in good faith; they concoct reasons for Denials; they try to get you lost in their procedural requirements; and, they do not even follow their own procedures! They abused disabled patients with emotional torment and financial frustration. Their customer service department is nothing short of a "BS" front line defense. And forget about an appeal or grievance hearing - they provide false testimony; false witnesses; and false test documents! They have ABUSED me for over FOUR YEARS so far, for covered services reimbursements! Call it incompetence or thievery, either way RUN in the opposite direction! Giving UHC one star for overall review rating is more than I would give but it was a minimum requirement to post this warning.

UHC states they have GAP exception if there isn't a doctor that specialized in your problem in your area. HUGE LIE!!! I have numerous conditions, booked 800 medical visits in 10 years, on disability due to one of the conditions, been to 125 doctors and I find this naturopath (none in network) that is a OB/GYN (which I don't need) and specializes in many areas including psychiatry, who has actually helped me as she thinks outside the box and truly wants to help you. She spends 1 hour to 2.5 hours with you for $200-$350 - what a deal, not to mention the results! But, UHC rather pay for 7 doctors ($450 ea) with no results. In other words, they rather pay $3150, instead of $200 and the patient can actually benefit. After all of the UHC runaround (appoximately 30 hours) can't help but feel that UHC really want their members to die.

My experience with United Healthcare has left me feeling scammed. I first bought a short-term health care plan for them last February. Once this plan ended in August I got a different plan through them. When I started a full-time job I no longer needed this insurance plan, and WOW! what a pain it was to cancel. I couldn’t log in to my online account and for some reason could not reset password. I’ve had issues with logging in to my account from day 1. So I had to cancel over the phone and it took days to get through to someone. It was awful. After that I was not happy, but at least it was cancelled... or so I thought. Four months later I look through my credit card statements and they had been charging me $20 every month. So I called to see what the deal was and they told me that it showed that I called and cancelled my policy in October, but I didn’t specifically say cancel all of my policy. Honestly, what part of I want to cancel my policy makes someone think I still want my policy? It is very shady and no way to get your money back. Be careful if you decide to go with this company that they don’t charge for no reason.

Over 1/3 of the reviews of this insurance are single stars. Nearly 50% are 3 stars or fewer. Does any one at UHC care about these reviews? Your organization is a disgrace and you customer "service" a total failure. The left hand does not know what the right is doing, though I suspect that it is a tactic to stall the process and discourage callers/patients. The resources invested in trying not to renew prescriptions or issue prior authorizations is staggering, and we are paying for it. This pitiful insurance is just one window into the overall debacle represented by the American health delivery system. What will it take to bring some order in it?

Absolutely awful. I have breast cancer & will be having a double mastectomy. I have just been advised that uhc doesn’t cover my prosthetic breasts or bras I will need. Every time I see my oncologist I have to pay a $70 copay & there are medications I needed while I was going through chemo to help With nausea that they declined to cover saying it wasn’t needed. This company is a bunch of crooks! Now I have to go through an appeal process to see if I can get prosthetic breasts!!! If I could give 0 stars I would. It’s disgusting how much I pay in premiums to only get screwed over. Thank uhc!!!

I recently visited Peachtree Immediate Care (an in network provider) in Fayetteville Georgia after being hit in the face during a sporting activity. It was a Sunday so my Primary Care Physicians office was closed, I figured I would go to the bottom of the priority list at the ER in addition to it being more expensive, and did not want to risk needing to have tissue debrided if I waited until Monday. I ended up needing 5 stitches, six weeks later I get a bill in the mail from Peachtree Immediate Care for $493. United Healthcare only covered a portion of the office visit and did not cover any of the cost of the stitches whatsoever. I called United Healthcare to appeal the claim and was informed that their appeals department does not have a phone number. Instead I was directed to a P.O. Box in Utah, after explaining that the bill was due in 2 days, I was finally provided with a fax number. Really? An appeals department for a major insurance company does not have a phone number? Who still owns a fax machine? At the end of the conversation, my takeaway was, sorry sir, we have paid what we are going to pay, you need to take the remainder up with Peachtree Immediate Care. Otherwise, you can mail your appeal into a black hole and maybe someone will get back to you. This is absolutely ridiculous, and makes me question why I am spending hundreds of dollars a month on health insurance when I'm going to get a $493 bill for 5 stitches anyway. Do better for the consumer United Healthcare!

I may as well not have insurance. They argue if I need a prescription. Just a back pain med, anti inflammatory. But apparently they thought I was undeserved and should have the med they wanted (one that earlier gave e hives, allergic reaction) so amid intense back pain, I had to argue for another 2 weeks. Then just a yearly exam, nope you shoudnt get a cholesterol screening, never figured why no answers there now can't get Physical Therapy, just not ready to say yes or no too much paperwork? I am a runner and not walking, no help from United without constant moaning and phoning dumping them !! We have choices! Make another one !!
