Ambetter and Florida Blue have similar plan offerings, especially when it comes to Marketplace plans. Even through Ambetter's plans have a few more included features, it is not a recommended company due to poor customer experiences reported in reviews on Best Company. BlueCross BlueShield has received better reviews on our site, so Florida Blue gets our recommendation as a subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield.

After a good 6 months trying to get my online account access in order with customer service, I finally figured it out myself. I was using the wrong email address to log in with even though it was the same as what was in my account. Apparently you can have a different login email than what's in your account for communications. That is so confusing. They didn't even catch that.

I'd give zero stars. I was signed up without my knowledge or consent & found out when I went to my regular doctor to be told they don't accept my insurance to which I said what insurance? I had to pay put of pocket that day to be seen I'm order to get my meds refilled! Terrible company!

I pay over $12,000 annually and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida (aka Florida Blue) provides very minimal benefits and lots of hassle for that cost. While Blue Cross / Blue Shield is generally a very good company, few know that this is just a brand licensee and the Blue Cross / Blue Shield in all states are independent licensed companies. I had great experience with Blue Cross / Blue Shield in other states - BUT in Florida, STAY AWAY from this terrible company. They will not even approve my standard recurring prescriptions for common health conditions. Stuff that was covered by Blue Cross / Blue Shield in other state(s) is rejected by Florida Blue. STAY AWAY FROM FLORIDA BLUE!
Ambetter and Florida Blue both offer Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plans. The plan options include all of the regular tiers with a variety of network and cost-sharing structures. While both companies make their plans visible online, Florida Blue has a nicer interface for displaying plans. Florida Blue also offers Medicare and plans that employers can offer to their employees.
With their Marketplace or ACA plans, both companies offer some perks. Ambetter offers care management services, maternity health programs, and health management programs. The company's Your Better Health Center has resources with financial advice and health tips. Some of Ambetter’s plans also include a rewards program and optional dental and vision.
Florida Blue offers a rewards program with all of its Marketplace plans. All members age 18 or older on a plan can earn up to $100 through this program. Florida Blue Centers are another resource available. At these centers, plan members can receive help understanding and enrolling in a health plan and get health tips.
Florida Blue gets our recommendation because it is a subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield. BlueCross BlueShield has earned favorable reviews on Best Company. In contrast, many Ambetter members do not recommend buying Ambetter plans.
