The Good

  • In-Network Provider Coverage
  • Lens Options
  • Virtual Try-On
  • Return Policy
  • Prescription Change Policy
  • Price Matching
  • Free Shipping

In-Network Provider Coverage

Eyeconic is the only online eyewear retailer that has a network of 38,000+ doctors. The site lets users buy prescription glasses or contact lenses with their existing vision insurance benefits. It can also connect you to local in-network eye doctors that take your same insurance.

It works with a total of three major insurance carriers:

  • VSP
  • Metlife
  • Cigna

This means that you can connect your vision insurance to your Eyeconic account to shop glasses, while only paying the difference between your insurance plan’s copay and the retail price of the frames, lenses, or contacts you choose. You will be able to see the prices and savings while shopping on the website.

For in-network benefits, this means an average savings of $220. Most people with Metlife, Cigna, of VSP insurance only end up paying $31 when buying glasses on this e-commerce site.

Remember, you don’t have to be affiliated with VSP, Cigna, or Metlife to shop on this site. You can make regular retail purchases or submit your out-of-network claim form to get reimbursed if your alternative vision insurance provider offers an out of network benefit.

You can even get VSP coverage through an Individual Plan if you are looking to get a provider. This can help you spread out the cost of your eyeglasses or contacts with a monthly plan.

Along with accepting insurance plans, glasses, contacts, and sunglasses can be purchased with FSA or HSA funds.

Lens Options

Choosing the lens options that you want can often feel like just clicking a bunch of buttons. Eyeconic’s online eyewear store makes it a little easier by breaking its options into lens packages: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. You can also choose to add lens enhancements like blue light reduction, photochromic, and more.

Virtual Try-On

Eyeconic offers a virtual try-on that actually uses your camera and a standard-sized plastic card like a library or ID card to help focus and scale.

While this is still a virtual try-on, and not a mail-order try on, this is still super helpful when it comes to picking out glasses, especially if you need to be wearing your glasses to see how you look, which is difficult at a retail store.

Return Policy

This retailer uses a 60-day return policy. The company even has an easy system with a pre-paid shipping label that just has to be printed and then dropped off at UPS.

Prescription Change Policy

If your vision prescription changes within six months of your purchase ship date, Eyeconic offers to exchange your lenses or contacts.

Price Matching

Customers will benefit from a price match guarantee if you shop with this site. If you find a lower price for the same item, within 30 days of your purchase date, you can contact customer service for a price match.

As always, there are various restrictions with price matching, but this is one of the few retailers in the online glasses space even offering this perk.

Free Shipping

Free ground shipping, but you can always upgrade if you want your items sooner.

The Bad

  • Shipping Time
  • Prices

Shipping Time

It can take a while for your new prescription glasses to arrive. Shipping estimates include 5–7 business days to validate your prescription, make the prescription lenses, and ship the packages.

With free ground shipping, you will get your new glasses in 9–14 business days. You can upgrade your shipping, and the soonest time estimate shows about 7–10 business days till you get it.

Prices

This website sells popular retail brands, unlike online retailers Warby Parker or Zenni Optical, which only sell their own in-house brand of eyewear. This means that it will be more expensive.

gavel

The Bottom Line

If you have vision insurance from Cigna, MetLife, or VSP, and you want to shop around for cheaper options than you have found in the store, try this website.

It may take a while longer to get your new glasses, but there are a variety of glasses to try on virtually, free shipping, and you don’t have to deal with out-of-network benefit reimbursement. The company takes care of it for you.

This site only sells name brand prescription eyewear. If you don’t have eligible insurance coverage, you might want to shop elsewhere if price is your biggest pain point.

So far I've ordered two pairs of eyeglasses from Eyeconic. I love the glasses. Very quality products. However, one of the pairs I ordered the transition lenses so they would darken up in the sunlight. They only darken up if the glasses are pointed directly at the sun. And then lighten back up again as soon as I turn my head away from the sun, even if I'm still outside. I need them to stay dark the entire time I'm out in the sunlight. And I'm not going to be looking directly at the sun while I'm outside, that's ridiculous. So I wish I hadn't paid extra for that feature since it doesn't work well.

Felt the confirmation process was a bit long (compared to say when I've ordered my contacts from Walgreens, they were much more prompt with the whole process of confirmation and and delivering my contacts to me) on top of the delivery process. I received my contacts so I shouldn't complain.

Overall, it was a quick and easy experience. I got the contacts very quickly however, the discounts didn’t transfer to all of my contact boxes and I think it would be easier to have an interface were you could select right eye or left eye and not have to select both if there are different kind of contacts for different eyes.

Easy to order. Great utilization of my insurance. Lots of options. Of course I paid the price for not trying them on in person, so they are a little narrow. Also need to get them adjusted, which is a pain in the ass because the voucher is for an inconvenient location

I use different contact brands in each eye, and they only had one of them. They did not have anything I could substitute for the other eye with the correct base curve. I do like that they accept my insurance and ordering for one eye was easy.

I recently just used Eyeconic to order my contacts and the processing and shipping is taking a very long time, I have yet to receive them and it’s been over 2 weeks, they are scheduled for deliver in the next few days . What was good was that I didn’t have to call to get approval for my prescription I was simply able to upload my prescription blank onto the website and send it to be fulfilled.

Great service but lacks options found elsewhere for color and style as well as care services for accident damages insurance. Lense options are also lacking compared to others. Prices are mediocre with insurance.

Ordering was easy. Glasses were delivered within a reasonable time frame. Quality of glasses seems good. The selection of glasses for the extra-small size adult glasses was VERY limited.

Amazing price and stylish frames. Fit comfortable. The price was surprisingly cheap and fit my budget. They had the most valuable deals at lowest price and were very friendly and helpful

The fitting experience is great, and the quality of the finished product (frames/lenses) is excellent. It takes a little long for the glasses to get to the customer’s hands after ordering, but it’s worth the wait.

I liked the ability to see what the glasses would look like with the picture option. The shipping took longer than expected, but the glasses arrived in good condition.

love the frames, lenes are a little off. The progressive part is a little too low to facilitate easy reading without moving the glasses off my nose.

They are generally working well. Took a while to get. The variable magnification area is smaller than I expected and had previously.

The glasses work very well but I have a hard time with frames and I think I will try different frames next time.

My glasses are progressives and don't line up correctly for me to use them. The reading area is extremely small

So far, great. I am only worried about resistance to scratching. My last pair scratch far too quickly and easily.

I like the style of the eyeglasses but they’re still a little crooked even after being adjusted but the optometrist.

Due to the pandemic, I ordered glasses online. Eyeconic provided great customer service and was easy to use. I got a nice pair of Gucci frames.

Bought 2 pair. Both okay but color changing lenses do not get dark enough to use as sunglasses.

Easy to order! Shipping was really slow, only reason it wasn’t 5 star

I like that it is quick and convenient, as long as you know what you like in frames and have your updated prescription handy. And they have a wide variety of frames to choose from. I did choose to return the glasses I initially received because of the quality of the lenses that came with their base lens offering. They seemed to smudge easily and had a persistent glare about them. Based on that, I recommend getting, at least, their Silver Lens Package. Other than that, customer service was very good each time I called. So, I had a good experience and I would definitely use Eyeconic again.
