The Good

  • In-Network Provider Coverage
  • Lens Options
  • Virtual Try-On
  • Return Policy
  • Prescription Change Policy
  • Price Matching
  • Free Shipping

In-Network Provider Coverage

Eyeconic is the only online eyewear retailer that has a network of 38,000+ doctors. The site lets users buy prescription glasses or contact lenses with their existing vision insurance benefits. It can also connect you to local in-network eye doctors that take your same insurance.

It works with a total of three major insurance carriers:

  • VSP
  • Metlife
  • Cigna

This means that you can connect your vision insurance to your Eyeconic account to shop glasses, while only paying the difference between your insurance plan’s copay and the retail price of the frames, lenses, or contacts you choose. You will be able to see the prices and savings while shopping on the website.

For in-network benefits, this means an average savings of $220. Most people with Metlife, Cigna, of VSP insurance only end up paying $31 when buying glasses on this e-commerce site.

Remember, you don’t have to be affiliated with VSP, Cigna, or Metlife to shop on this site. You can make regular retail purchases or submit your out-of-network claim form to get reimbursed if your alternative vision insurance provider offers an out of network benefit.

You can even get VSP coverage through an Individual Plan if you are looking to get a provider. This can help you spread out the cost of your eyeglasses or contacts with a monthly plan.

Along with accepting insurance plans, glasses, contacts, and sunglasses can be purchased with FSA or HSA funds.

Lens Options

Choosing the lens options that you want can often feel like just clicking a bunch of buttons. Eyeconic’s online eyewear store makes it a little easier by breaking its options into lens packages: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. You can also choose to add lens enhancements like blue light reduction, photochromic, and more.

Virtual Try-On

Eyeconic offers a virtual try-on that actually uses your camera and a standard-sized plastic card like a library or ID card to help focus and scale.

While this is still a virtual try-on, and not a mail-order try on, this is still super helpful when it comes to picking out glasses, especially if you need to be wearing your glasses to see how you look, which is difficult at a retail store.

Return Policy

This retailer uses a 60-day return policy. The company even has an easy system with a pre-paid shipping label that just has to be printed and then dropped off at UPS.

Prescription Change Policy

If your vision prescription changes within six months of your purchase ship date, Eyeconic offers to exchange your lenses or contacts.

Price Matching

Customers will benefit from a price match guarantee if you shop with this site. If you find a lower price for the same item, within 30 days of your purchase date, you can contact customer service for a price match.

As always, there are various restrictions with price matching, but this is one of the few retailers in the online glasses space even offering this perk.

Free Shipping

Free ground shipping, but you can always upgrade if you want your items sooner.

thumb_down

The Bad

  • Shipping Time
  • Prices

Shipping Time

It can take a while for your new prescription glasses to arrive. Shipping estimates include 5–7 business days to validate your prescription, make the prescription lenses, and ship the packages.

With free ground shipping, you will get your new glasses in 9–14 business days. You can upgrade your shipping, and the soonest time estimate shows about 7–10 business days till you get it.

Prices

This website sells popular retail brands, unlike online retailers Warby Parker or Zenni Optical, which only sell their own in-house brand of eyewear. This means that it will be more expensive.

gavel

The Bottom Line

If you have vision insurance from Cigna, MetLife, or VSP, and you want to shop around for cheaper options than you have found in the store, try this website.

It may take a while longer to get your new glasses, but there are a variety of glasses to try on virtually, free shipping, and you don’t have to deal with out-of-network benefit reimbursement. The company takes care of it for you.

This site only sells name brand prescription eyewear. If you don’t have eligible insurance coverage, you might want to shop elsewhere if price is your biggest pain point.

This is a classic case of you get what you pay for. I ordered my glasses through eyeconic because my VSP (vision) benefit has them as one of the providers. I liked the price of the glasses I received and I even liked the glasses, but when it comes to support for repairs or anything else they are basically worthless. I damaged the hinge on my glasses and I knew it wasn't a warranty issue, but they would not provide any support to get them repaired or provide a way to reuse the perfectly good lenses. I will stick with using a local optical provider and supporting local business versus a large organization that could care less about relationships and just wants to be transactional. I will never use them again.

Bad experience, they do not have any flexibility for prescriptions in the order. the order is accepted with prescriptions first and they come back very late staying it is expired. they don't allow newer prescriptions to be added afterwards. this is highly unfair to customers whose benefits are expiring. quoting the law does not really make sense here because it is their responsibility to help customers in different situations with order and continue compliance instead of burning the customer's benefit. finally everytime I call they have disclaimer of intermittent volumes of calls excuse which is really sad.

When I placed my contact lens order via the website, I was given a delivery estimate of about one week. I then received an email saying that my lenses were back ordered, and that it would actually be a month before they would ship. After that month passed, I received yet another email from them, saying that the lenses were still back ordered, and that it would be at least another month, possibly longer, before they would ship. When I wrote to customer service to see if there was anything they could do to help (for example, maybe send me two 12 packs instead of one 24 pack?), their only suggestion was to cancel my order if I was unsatisfied with the delivery time. Completely unhelpful. So I am left with absolutely no idea of when I will receive my order, except that it will be at a minimum of two months after placing my order.

Horrible I will never order glasses online again...I got glasses over $500 and hated them the virtual try on does not give accurate look at all, The lense were ok in these, but I sent them back and the were very nice, but I soon found out they are not very nice the new glasses I got were over $100 less but they did not issue a refund for the difference and even then these glasses the lense were Horrible I can one see far off even though I got progressive..the lense were dramatically different then the first pair...I wish I would have just gotten the refund from the start...because now they tell me only ONE chance to return them...even if they are wrong...so now I have wasted my insurance allowance and money out of my pocket and have no glasses I can use...

This company has a serious issue with the product availability. It advertises that they would have a specific brand prescription available and then send you an email about you items being back ordered. It is a lure you in type of tactic. It’s a lm ugly business to deal with. If you need glasses or contacts I would not recommend this place. It’s better to just wait the wait time at a regular vision center. Customer service is very poor. I was asked what would I like to see happen, moving forward. FYI, I would like to see period. When it comes to recommendation for this company that would be a very hard NO. Eyeconic's mission is to provide high quality eyewear to as many in the community as possible.- when do you plan to do so, We are still waiting. I only hope that one day EYECONIC would take in to consideration that we don’t come to you because we wanted to or even because of your status in the review world. We come to you because you are in network with our insurance providers and you lured us in by you false very false advertisements.

If I could give less than one star I would. I placed two orders using the same prescription. One for the left eye contact and the other for the right eye contact. I did them on separate orders to utilize two different insurance companies (dual insurance). The right eye was shipped, and the left eye Eyeconic canceled the order. I then placed the order again and the customer service person told me they would ship second-day air the contacts and applogized. The second order was canceled. I placed the order a third time and they told me the order would be delayed until their "operations team" reviews the order. It took over an hour and ten minutes on hold to get them to tell me to call back in a few days to check on the order. When asked if a supervisor was available I was told they don't work all day only a few hours in the morning. I could try back in the morning or they could fill out a form and someone will call me back in a few days. Terrible customer service. Do not order from Eyeconic. There are far better companies out there who don't cause this much frustration.

They need to alert customer whether the items are available to ship or out of stock. I ordered prescription contact lenses. A week after my order was submitted I received an email stating they are on back order and it would take about 2 months to ship! Ridiculous since I need them to see! Had I known I would have ordered elsewhere. I then recently get another email stating the contacts are going to be shipped in another month or possibly longer. At that point I was done. I canceled and ordered from another website. I had to pay out of pocket but rather do that then wait 3-4 months for contact lenses . Get it together EYECONIC. Sham

I used them previously and they screwed up my glasses and I was out my VSP benefit for the year. I spoke with them, found out what the issue was and decided to try again because of the ease of VSP. After a week of numerous cancellations for needing the prescription “written differently” and talking on the phone with their customer service for over an hour to verify everything was correct - finally!! They cancelled the order saying they were unable to make them AND THEN charged my card!! I have yet to see my refund and I’m still waiting for them to release my VSP benefits so that I can order elsewhere. I would NOT recommend the hassle!

5.8 Overall star rating is extremely generous for Eyeconic. I wish there was an option for ZERO stars or a negative star rating. This company really does not care if you are happy or pissed off. Eyeconic sends you a pair of glasses, probably the ones you ordered but not the correct prescription. I spoke with an agent via chat, she gave me many auto-responses. The first was, "We've passed along your concerns to the appropriate department, and we really appreciate that you took the time to leave us some feedback." This statement popped up right after I hit enter. AUTO! BOT! I never received any resolution to my issue, the wrong prescription. Ended up without glasses additional 6 weeks. Eyeconic does not care. Consumers trust these feedback ratings you see, the majority of people have spoken.

The wait time for glasses is ridiculous. I have been waiting 4.5 weeks and was told yesterday they will probably ship next week. Sot it will be 5.5 to 6.0 weeks form order to delivery. Clearly, they have some performance issues. The only positive thing is that they state they will waive the expedited delivery fee - a very small consolation. my wife who ordered glasses the day after me from Warby Parker received hers 2.0+ weeks ago. To complete the review, I had to rate Quality of Product - since I do not have the product, that rating should be ignored. The rating for Value reflects the wait time. It is overall a poor experience.

Like the other comments here, my experience has been very bad. I ordered contacts for my daughter the end of January after my vision insurance recommended these people. About two weeks later, I received an email that they were on backorder. When I called them in early March because we were going to pick me daughter up and bring her home due to COVID-19, they said they shipped them to her. When we picked her up a week later, no contacts. Now they are stringing us along saying UPS is doing a lost package evaluation and I’d they cannot find it in 8-10 days, I will have to reorder and do the entire process over again! DO NOT ORDER from these people unless you want your money tied up and your vision held hostage! They are unable to deliver at best and schisters at worst!

DO NOT USE EYECONIC FOR PRESCRIPTION EYEGLASSES!!!!!!! The worst experience I have ever had with getting prescription glasses. I ordered the best lens package to have anti-reflective coating because I had lost my glasses and didn't have a backup pair. They were late in getting the glasses shipped to me, it took double the time they said it would on the website, but when I spoke to them they said it was within their 8-11 fulfillment period which is the only amount of time in lab and not shipping, nor is it from the time you submit the order. I received the glasses and the anti-reflective coating is trash. When I work or am sitting looking away from a window it looks like I have a freaking mirror in my glasses. I call to enact the warranty and they need the glasses and will take another 20 days to get them back to me. "The policy" was said so many times I got dizzy. But I learn that if I send them back and am without glasses for another 3 weeks, and then get it back with the same issue, they will not provide any other replacement or fixing of said glasses. So essentially, they would take my glasses for three weeks, and they can send them back without fixing the issue, but then it's not their problem anymore! This is infuriating!! DO NOT USE EYECONIC!!!

I was given misinformation regarding the shipping carrier. My order was sent back and when I contacted Eyeconic I was told that my order would be reshipped right away second day air. Eight days later I still had not received my order or heard anything more so I called and I was told I would have it the next day. It did arrive the next day but I should not have had to make 3 phone calls to receive it. An order that was supposed to arrive in 5-10 days took 3 weeks.

I will not be using them again. They lie when they say if you pay $18 your contacts will be shipped overnight. They sent my contacts through UPS and UPS has been sending me emails for 2 days saying that my contacts will be delivered on June 6th. Um, that isn't an overnight delivery. Seems more like the free ground shipping that I could've gotten but not paid for. I need my contacts.

I am extremely unhappy with the experience, service, and products I received from Eyeconic. It was the company that my insurance recommended and I am so upset that I chose them for my glasses. After getting in touch to request a return, they only send automated responses and half of them don't even apply to my questions and requests. I highly suggest that you stay away from Eyeconic if you can.

I placed my order on November 24, 2021. Today is 2/21/2022 and every 30 days they send an email stating that the product is on backorder from their supplier and now they are stating it will be 3/16-3/24/2022 -- THAT'S OVER FOUR MONTHS SINCE MY ORDER ! I will be demanding a full refund immediately and if they refuse to refund my BENEFIT from 2021 then I will be reporting them as FRAUDULENT.

Eyeconics insists my order from 11/11/20 was delivered but it is nowhere to be found. I live in an apartment with a concierge and they have never lost a package. They use UPS, who lately has become notorious for not having delivered packages that are listed as "delivered." When I informed Eyeconics that my package was missing, they were dismissive and vague in their response. I will NOT be ordering from Eyeconics again, certainly not until they take more accountability for their customer experience.

Worst experience ever. Do not use the provider. They will go ahead and fulfill your order even though they know the prescription is wrong and not verified by your doctor. FRAUD company. Worst customer service. Does not offer refund if you have opened the box - how do you try the contacts if you didn't open the box? What a waste of my money. Couple of hundred dollars thrown away

Hi Lily,
Thank you for your feedback! We passively validated your order due to no response to our Prescription Verification Request sent to your doctor's office via fax. “Passive verification,” basically means that if the doctor’s office doesn’t respond to a verification request within eight business hours, we can fill the prescription for you based on what you provided as being true and valid. We are apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Wait times to speak to them are always over 40 minutes. You are not permitted to cancel an order, "it is being processed" is the reason given. Over 2 weeks and still no indication of the status. Terrible business model that is insulting to the consumer. An online site where you can't touch or feel that is slow and unresponsive is a recipe for disaster. IMO move along nothing to see here.

Horrible experience. Ordered my glasses on 12/30 and received them on 01/14. Prescription was WAY OFF and resulted in very blurry vision. Also, big scratch down all through the left lens. Lastly, the quality was worse than my $20 pair of readers from the drugstore. Disgusted, my VSP plan cannot be reused from 2019, and going back first thing in the morning. This company is a sham.

The eyeglasses do not work for me. Everything appears to be on a slant. I took them to the optometrist they checked the prescription and it is correct. However, I cannot read with them on and everything seems awkward. I wore them for two hours and got a headache.

Contact lenses never shipped. I was given a tracking number, but the boxes never made it to the carrier. When I called them a week later, customer service could not help. Disorganized and their customer service department is not empowered to actually help customers. I will go out of network next time. Strong recommend avoiding them if possible.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback and we hear your frustration. We are experiencing increased order volumes due to COVID and it is our seasonally high order time. Unfortunately, paying for expedited shipping does not expedite your order through the lab process. To ensure the safety of our customers and employees, we are taking additional precautionary steps in preparing and shipping your order which is causing delays in shipping orders out. We appreciate your patience while we navigate together through these unprecedented times.
