Sprint and T-Mobile have merged.

As of April 2020, Sprint has joined forced with T-Mobile to provide customers with one of the largest 5G networks in the country. As a result, information in this review may be outdated. To learn more about this merger, check out our T-Mobile Review, or read through our Sprint reviews from actual customers (below).

Sprint is a major provider of wireless phone and Internet products and services for individuals and businesses throughout the world and offers the latest smartphone and tablet device technology with 4G LTE data coverage in over 500 cities nationwide.

Founded in 1899 and headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, Sprint now owns Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and the Assurance brands of non-contract providers.

The Good

  • Metro Area Network Coverage
  • Multi-Line Service Prices
  • Additional Perks
  • Device Options

Metro Area Network Coverage

Though Sprint's coverage depth and breadth are not as robust as that of the top companies, its coverage is improving in certain areas. Sprint now offers especially fast 4G LTE network coverage improvements in four major U.S. metro areas in preparation for 5G speeds:

  • Atlanta, GA (over 50 percent faster than previous download speeds)
  • Denver, CO (over 50 percent faster than previous download speeds)
  • Las Vegas, NV (nearly twice as fast as previous download speeds)
  • Salt Lake City, UT (twice as fast as previous download speeds)

Multi-Line Service Prices

Sprint focuses heavily on serving families or groups of friends that want to go in on a phone account together. The group pricing provides an incentive to add more lines because of the discounts available.

For example, the Unlimited Basic service plan gets you your third, fourth, and fifth lines free, totaling $20/month per line, a price that is very difficult (if not impossible) to find elsewhere for what you get. The carrier claims using its unlimited plan actually gives customers a $1,000 savings over their first year over certain competitors.

Additional Perks

Sprint's three "Unlimited" plans, Unlimited Basic, Unlimited Plus, and Unlimited Premium, all include these benefits:

  • Unlimited talk and text
  • Hulu account
  • Mobile hotspot (500 MB LTE, 50GB LTE, or 100GB LTE)
  • Video streaming (480p, 1080p, or full HD)
  • Canada and Mexico roaming and unlimited talk, text, and data (5GB, 10GB, or unlimited 4G LTE data)
  • Text and data in 200+ worldwide locations

Unlimited Plus includes a Tidal account as well, and Unlimited Premium comes with Tidal, Lookout, and Amazon Prime.

Customers age 55+ or customers who are active military or veterans qualify for specialized Unlimited plans. Data plans for tablets, mobile hotspots, and smartwatches can be purchased, too.

Device Options

New and popular Apple and Android phones and tablet options are available through Sprint. Financing rates are based on credit qualifications, but generally, you can utilize the Spring Flex 18-month lease on a new phone. Pre-owned phones are also available. If your current phone is compatible with the Sprint Network and it is unlocked, you can activate it with a new Sprint account. You do need a SIM card to activate your device.

A Sprint customer can also purchase any of the following tech accessories:

  • Smartwatches
  • Tablets
  • Hotspots
  • Sprint Drive (enables vehicle diagnostics, driving behavior analytics, location tracking, roadside assistance, and media connectivity)
  • Ear pods and other wireless headphones
  • Chargers

The Bad

  • Coverage Gaps
  • Early Termination Fees
  • Expensive Hotspots

Coverage Gaps

Depending on where in the U.S. you live, Sprint's network coverage can be outstanding or poor, so potential customers should closely study Sprint's coverage map prior to signing up to avoid slower download speeds and dropped calls.

Early Termination Fees

The early termination fee (the cost a consumer pays when they cancel their contract early) is something you should be aware of before signing up with Sprint. If you sign up for a 1 or 2-year contract and then decide to change carriers, you must pay a fee for each line of service you signed up with. The fee is prorated based on the length of your remaining term commitment, but depending on how many months you have remaining on your contract, you might end up paying a steep price.

Expensive Hotspots

Standalone hotspots and Wi-fi card plans are expensive with Sprint. The cheapest plan the carrier currently provides is $30/month for 10GB of data. There are also additional fees that can apply with the limited GB data.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Sprint has plenty to offer prospective customers, with the most attractive perk being the affordable multi-line smartphone plan pricing. Paying $20/month for smartphone services is almost unheard of.

Is Sprint good? Customer reviews are mixed, reflecting both positive and negative experiences with Sprint's customer service team, terms and conditions, and network coverage. Read the reviews below to decide for yourself.

Sprints agents all have different answers for you. I recently upgrade via working with an agent online. She told me she would waive my last lease payment, since I pay on the lease for 36 months (they reall made their money on me!). I also refused protection on both new phones. We settled on a new plan which was a great price. My new bill should have been $123. And ended up $153. They charged me for the lease on the old phone and protection on one phone. The plan I agreed on at one point was changed to a more expensive plan and I had to call and correct that. It was a month of hell. Navigating through the BS. Got the protection off (next months Bill), got the right plan back but they did nothing about the old lease cost. BTW the new phone lease began the day I ordered the phone!

This is the second time Sprint cut my service. I used Sprint service for many years, this year is different. I need my cell phone at all times to use during hard times and difficult situations . I was in car accident twice at no fault of mine and the cell phone is what saved me after being lucked in my car. I can't have my cell phone cut off. I panic without it. My payment is high 240$ averaging two lines. I break my payment to two as I get biweekly paycheck. Sprint cut my service yesterday after I forgot to make my second payment of 148$ ! I forgot to pay. This is during COVID 19 tough times when people are getting sick and loosing their jobs .I was unemployed for 2 months prior to the quarantine and I sill manage to pay Sprint. I finally started a full time job and I know I will pay. Sprint cut my service. I decided this time not to wait and cancel their service. I no longer want to be a customer with this greedy company like Sprint. This is not the American way.

I have been a faithful customer of Sprint for over four years now. I have five lines, a tablet, and an Apple Watch on my plan. I pay roughly $660 per month for all my services. With that being said, I drop roughly 5-10 calls per day in southern Michigan and my new home has zero cell service. After two years of going round and round with Sprint I am finally looking for a new carrier. They promised me an air rave (signal booster) for my house but have never followed through. I have spoke with roughly 10 different representatives over the past two years and no one can resolve my issues. I am frustrated with my service and highly warn others who live in rural areas to steer clear from sprint.

Long but several money scams played out by sprint. I joined sprint awhile back and now have left. It was a large family group and they continued to change my bills randomly when nothing changed. First it was “you crossed the border so it’s more expensive to use it in Mexico.” I told them how am I in Mexico!? I’ve never left my state!? So they said they would fix it but never did. They couldn’t explain why my bill jumped 200 bucks and then after months said oh you missed a months payment that’s why. When asked what month they gave me a random one near when I signed up and I showed them proof I paid. Then I was given the oh sorry wrong month it’s this one. Again proof I paid. Often they do “repairs” to the cell towers but with no warning so people would go to the store confused why there was no service. The store then said please put in complaints to they will get it back up in a days time rather than several days. Fast forward I was tired of random fees popping up so I sent in my phones with proof I did and proof I spoke to someone saying they received all phones. I was told to wait for my final bill if I do in fact owe anything. Skip a month nothing so I call asking where it was and they say we can’t talk to you unless you promise to pay and undisclosed amount. Which I denied because it could be a million bucks for all I know. I said why I just want to know where my bill is I’m not promising anything. They said because we sent you to collections. I said but I’m waiting for my bill you said would be here by the end of the month it’s the end of the month! They hung up on me. I got several rude collectors calling me to which I explained I can’t pay anyone until I get a bill I’m not throwing a million dollars at you and hoping you bring me change once you decide what to keep. I called sprint again and they said they could remove me from collections and would be glad to send me a bill. If and only if I did a promise to pay for an undisclosed amount. They refused to send me a bill until a I promised but I did not so after ignoreing them for a month and a half I received two “final bills” saying different prices. One said it was 2000 because I supposedly skipped several months pay the other was a few hundred less claiming they never got my phones. When I called they said to pay both amounts separate.

I would like to acknowledge complete professionalism from an agent in the Sprint Finance Dept named, Akkeria. When other agents in her dept would leave me on hold for 20 minutes and even hang up on me after calling back, I gratefully was able to get Akkeria on the line and she took the time to listen to my concern and do everything within her power to try and generate a resolve. Normally, incompetence and apathy (such as what I experienced with the previous two agents) are generally the status quo that I've experienced from many numerous depts of large companies like Sprint (and including Sprint). Departments that should be focused on resolve and customer satisfaction are at best only "pretending" to solve any real issues from a script that doesn't cover the problem at all or at worst, just place you on hold until you get tired of waiting and hang up. And lets not forget my recent and previous experience today, before Akkeria, when both a 20 minute wait and a hang up both occurred before I had to call back for a 3rd time! Akkeria is an agent that stands out from the rest and I only wish Sprint and other companies like Sprint would look to hire and train more people like her!

I used Sprint for about 3 years and couldn't wait to swap companies. I got my first bill and they had added a double bill and all kinds of hidden fees and charges. Their customer service reps are rude and they lie and scam you when you try to get adjustments to your bill. It's also very hard to find a store that isn't an authorized dealer because apparently that's not the same thing.

Sprint is all about sales. The customer service in store explains as little as possible and if you don't know to ask, you'll see it in your bill later. I'm glad they are transitioning to T-mobile. Maybe the prices will be more reasonable and acceptable. Can't complain about the network coverage, I've never had a problem getting a signal, or dropping a call. Been a Sprint customer since 2013.

I changed to Sprint with the idea that it was going to be better and did not find that to be true. I was led to believe the coverage area was great where I live, but in some areas, I loose signal and have dropped calls. I wish I had stayed with AT&T at this point but can't change back now. I hope this is not the way it is the whole time I have Sprint as a provider.

It was great until about 6 months ago. I'm always getting messages from my apps that the network is unavailable. They said I needed a magic box and I've been trying to get it for 3 months. I hate calling them because I wind up spending an hour on the phone getting put on hold and transferred around. The customer service is polite but not effective.

They told me in 2010 that 4G was 6 months away to get me to buy a phone. It did't show up until 2016. When it did show up it was even worse than 3G. When you are around people with decent providers they will be flying through vids and such so fast. It gets embarrassing because it takes like 10 times longer than anyone else to do anything at all. They definately live up to their reputation of being the worst.

Hate that they quit sending paper statements and didn't send out any notifications that they were going to do that. I like getting paper statements. Also customer service is terrible, I was one put on 2 different plans at once and didn't even know it until I went into a full service center and they pulled up my account. I was wondering why I was paying so much for service. The full service centers need to be larger and have more employees to assist customers.

I've been customer of Sprint for over 20 years but my account was hacked and I just spent an hour being pushed around from department, to web site, to phone rep to account manager and nothing helped. Lots of sympathy but no action. No one seems to have the authority or willingness to help. Classic corporate inability / unwillingness to help the little guy

We have been with Sprint for about 18 years. This company is similar to other wireless phone providers. Service is poor, like cable tv companies, having to constantly dicker with them about ending promotions and new promotions is mindless. Additionally these companies provide better deals to new customers than customers that have been with them for years.

I was with Sprint for a total of 15 years and their customer service representatives are robots who talk over you and do not have any listening skills. They only hear what they want to hear and if you ask any question they want to blind transfer you so that you have to repeat your question again. I left them after 15 years because in those long years I have had to contact their CEO's office via email so many times that I decided it was time to change. I would not recommend Sprint to anyone at this point because their Cellular service is also gone bad and their customer service sucks.

The first time I walked in to a Sprint store contemplating on what phone service to get I encountered friendly employees who where willing to answer my questions. The second time when I made up my mind that Sprint would be my service provider I was overwhelmed as the employee was sharing different plans and going super fast. I felt as though he was pressuring me and asked for a different person to help me. I have since had no problems with there employees and the company its self.

I had been a Sprint customer since 2001. In 2016 I had a stroke and could not pay my bills. While I was in the hospital friends and family paid over $300 on my phone bill. By the time I left the hospital I owed Sprint less than $30 and my phone was no longer under contract with them. It had been paid off for about six months and I chose to stay with Sprint. However, Sprint terminated my service for that less than $30 that I owed them! I called customer service and no one was willing to work with me although I had been a customer for years! I honestly think it's because I didn't want to buy a new phone and start a new contract with them at the time. But, as I said, I had just had a stoke and I had no income. I think it's awful that they would treat a loyal customer that way!

Their prices were some the lowest, but so was their service. Never had so many dropped calls. You can't multitask with Sprint (i.e. use talk and use data). We had to repeatedly start over with the same troubleshooting and q&a sessions every time we called customer service. Would rather pay more for better service and multitask.

Customer Service needs improvement. Went to a sprint store since my phone was broken and since the old one could not be repaired ended up buying a new one. The sales representative had no sense of urgency and wasn't very helpful in questions that I had. I literally had to do my own research in the store in front of the sales rep on google to see what features the phone had. I am glad that T-mobile has taken over. Hopefully this will mean better cell phone reception as and customer service.

I was in a financial bind and thought I'd listen to the commercials about Sprint being cost effective so we switched. We did so because the Sprint salesperson told us they use the same towers as Verizon and there is no reason to pay a higher amount for the same coverage. Well, we were lied to. Sprint does not have the same coverage in our area (Western PA) as Verizon. We don't appreciate being lied to just to make a buck.

I was a Sprint customer for over 10 years and found that they do not value their customers. When we went to go in to review our contract, we found that they were charging us more than double of what competitors would charge for a data plan. This had been going on for about 3 years. Even more so, when we wanted to look for deals or ways to upgrade our phone, we were not given any options. Overall, the customer service was poor, the phone service was poor, the pricing was poor, and the treatment of long-time customers was poor.

I shared a plan with my mom, starting off when I was just in highschool. Updating my phone was difficult, and the wait time in the store was WAY too long. Plus there was no seating, standing room only. I'd watch associates not even help customers. The billing and pricing was confusing, and the service was horrible - no matter the phone. I had an iPhone 4s, and then several Android phones and the reception and signal was atrocious where ever I was. The data connection was at a standstill.
