After a few of my friends recommending this app to me, I tried out turo to get a same day rental as they mentioned it had great cars for a great rate and was better than car rental companies. Since we needed two cars, we found one for $35 a day that I covered and another for $40 per day that my friend got (who referred me). I have travel protection on my card and rental coverage so I declined every option I could but was offered nearly $200 for a 3 day rental after I checked out (instead of the original ~135) ! The experience was extremely weird for both of us as my driver was not even there to drop off the car and drove another person drove us to some remote area to pick up the car ($50 fee), and my friends car was missing plates and was also ubered 20 minutes away (to his own cost) to pick up the car and was not sure if he even spoke to the owner of the car. The car rental itself was nice, car was in good state and we took care of it on the trip. My driver mentioned ahead of time to vacuum and car wash the car before turning it in or it'd be another $50 fee, not including gas. Painless return and the owner walked me through the check in process with taking tons of pictures and after checking it was good to go, I was still pissed over the additional $85 fees but I let it go as part of it was my fault for selecting an option incorrectly. I get back to my destination and I see another $50 dollars added to my statement and it's taken me over 3 days to get a response to support to see what it's about. I saved pictures of the odometer and the gas receipt and car wash just in case, as my friend was charged an additional $50 because they claimed my friend never filled the tank when we both were at the same station with our cars doing all of the steps together. Additionally his driver was not available to drive him to the airport after he drove 30 minutes to drop off his car car mechanics garage, so he had to uber there as I had already been dropped off. Overall this is very sketchy, high risk, and prone to hidden fees with no itemized receipt, way less cost efficient, and poor support. For a 35 per day car, I ended up paying over 250 for 3 days! As much as a headache that car rentals are, I'll stick to an agency.

The car rental process was very affordable but i wish there was more notice to the trip and notified before that photos of the car should be taken. i didn't know until after i got the car and it was too late.

Worst trip EVER!!! This was my first time ever renting a car from Turo. I decided to give it a try for my brother in law wedding day. I met with the host and took over 22 pictures PLUS a video. Advise the host that I would return his car first thing in the morning before heading back to my home state. I get to my brother in law wedding and everything was going great. The groomsmen took lots of pictures by the vehicle which was the whole purpose of renting the vehicle. After the wedding was over, my sister and I got back into the vehicle to head back to the hotel. We must have been on the road no more than 5 minutes when we noticed the cops started driving behind us. My sister asked me what was that all about? I of course stated that it couldn't be anything and not to worry, because we wasn't doing anything illegal nor did I drink any alcohol at the wedding. Well needless to say, the cop pulled us over. He stated that the reason he stopped the vehicle is because it showed that our tags were expired. I explained I was renting this vehicle from Turo website and showed him our paperwork. I then explained that I was leaving a wedding and didn't have anything to drink. He had us get out the car and go to the back to look at the tags and the tags read December 2018!!! He stated that I should contact Turo to get my money back, because legally he was suppose to impound the car. I was very upset to say the least. When we were 12 mins away from our hotel, yet again "ANOTHER" cop flashed his lights and pulled us over. He too stated that my tags were expired. Now this is the good part. When I contacted the host he act as if he knew nothing about the tags but yet his reviews showed that he had rented this same vehicle 11 different times since December 2018. I asked him to either work out a reimbursement for this situation or else I was contacting Turo to report this fraudulent transaction. So the next morning when I turn the vehicle back in I took more pictures, again including the tags (didn't notice it the 1st time) and I even took another video walk thru of the vehicle. When I return home I inbox my host regarding reimbursement or at least a percentage of a refund. Now here is where it gets really good!!! In return the host sent Turo a "DAMAGE CLAIM" stating that I scratched up his vehicle bumper and now wants ME to pay for repairs!!! I was now furious. I mean the nerve of this guy even conducting a fraudulent transaction in the first place. I rebutted his false claim and showed Turo my before and after pictures along with my before and after videos as proof of no damages. My case is currently pending investigation. My recommendations for anyone would be to look carefully at the person tags on their vehicle. Please don't be in such a hurry to leave without asking plenty of additional questions. Shame on this host.

As a user and a ex-host, I'd stay away for loaning your car out. there is no such thing of customer service. When I type this, I still can't believe it, but yes if someone wrecks your car good luck. Most personal companies like USAA, State Farm ect. give you a little benny on the value. Turo does not! The platform is designed to under cut you as a host charging as much as 25% for company insurance and little fees of all kinds. Hosting a car is a horrible idea just think about this alone maintenance, clean service, and time to drop your car off. Unless you have a 20k car paid off that will be maintenance free for a while. As user personally don't minded because most of my travel is leisure. My experience as a host has pushed me to close this one down all together.

The car owner I give a 10. Great guy with equally great cars and service from him. I'm a long-standing Turo customer with no issues nor have I had an accident or ticket in years. I have been very patient with their App malfunctions. So I did not appreciate them suddenly charging me $100 deposits for each trip. They have no respect for repeat business so I am taking my business elsewhere.

I would not want anyone to ever use Turo. I rented a higher end car on a trip to Los Angeles. I show up at the Turo parking lot and no one can find the car. No Turo employee there offered any other help and told me to work it out with the car provider. After hours I connected with the car provider who proceeded to waste half a day of my time asking me to meet him at two different locations in LA during rush hour. He lied to me saying the car would be waiting when I got there, then told me the car was in the shop and would not be ready. He refused to cancel my trip so I could get my money back, and convinced me to cancel it which I decided to do just so I could get my deposit back. Then because I cancelled, I could not review this car provider on their app. I lost half of my trip, didn't have a car, and had to cancel multiple tours and events because of this experience. After multiple hours on the phone with Turo, they offered me $20 in travel credit for their app which in no way makes up for my flights, hotel, missed tours, etc. They then would not let me speak to managers, refused to give their names or customer IDs, and never actually added any travel credit to my account. I will never use Turo again.

Actually I won't be using Turo again. I was charge an extra $35 to clean the vehicle. We got caught in a rain storm driving back across the desert. There were bugs on the front of the car because it is spring. If I had the same experience with a rental car agency cleaning the vehicle is part of their costs and are not passed along to the customer. I shouldn't have go get the car washed for the owner and certainly should not be charged for the cost of doing business. The car was rented and taken car of and being charged for the car being dirty from weather and environment is not something I am interested in doing again. I read the rules after and it's clear that user are responsible to keep cars clean. I believe the rules should match rental car agencies. I was scolded by the owner when asked why I was charged and I feel this is poor customer service all around from the rules to the way I was treated. I would have started her one but I had already rated her before I was charged. My mistake and one I will not be repeating. The rules are setup to charge customers for general business expenses and I will not be using this service again.

Most of my experiences using Turo have been positive. That being said, my recent rental did not go well. The owner claimed damage to his vehicle, although photos indicated scratches were done prior to my rental. Turo didn’t even contact be to get my opinion; without advance notice, just 24 hours after my rental,Turo took almost 1K out of my bank account. Over inflated repair cost for damage I didn’t do. Someone is getting a kickback. They have lost a previously happy customer.

I rented my extra sports car on turo, I followed the business plan I was told works. Turo authorized a man to rent out my car, who stole it. My car was not paid off, I waited over 85 days for turo to Compensate the value of the car. In this 85 days I payed 3 car payments, totaling $1,800. I paid $397 in insurance on my own end. I lost out on over $500 worth of scheduled trips that were to take place after the car was stolen. Then to further explain the lack of respect turo has for its hosts they offered to pay 24,000 on my car. There’s a 30,000 bank loan owed. Considering turo Accepted this man to rent my car, how am I out over $9,000 because I followed Tito’s business plan. Do not rent on turo, they will not recover your car and they keep it out of the media but cars are stolen regularly, they do not take care of their hosts, nor do they compensate when they have made a huge mistake. Furthermore turo has been in contact with the police department and are not pressing charges on the man who stole my car.

As a host, you better hope a renter never damages your car--because Turo has a SLICK SYSTEM to avoid paying for anything. The illusion of your being covered by insurance borders on being a scam... My renter gashed in the trim on the driver's side along with multiple deep scratches in the paint. He actually concurred that the damage was done during his trip--but Turo doesn't care. Because I was not able to provide a photo BEFORE this specific trip of the exact same area of the car that was damaged, I was informed I had no proof that it happened when I said it did... and thus, sorry, buster, out of luck. As a renter, Turo is the best--especially knowing that you can pretty much wreck and owner's car and walk away... as a host, DO NOT DO IT!

This is some straight up bull! The guy who was suppossedly renting the car would not answer not respond to messages confirming. After talking to a Turo rep the night before, he assured us to go to the home and pick up the car. They took 15 minutes to respond to the door and then a woman came out and I told her what we were there for and she shook her head. The car looked like crap once we got there and the contact person came out looking like who done it and why. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about and that his phone was messed up. Needless to say, the trip was ruined because we didn't have a way to get there. Hotels were booked etc.. and this bull ain't cool at all! Never again!

It's very confusing for a first time user. I had to contact a Turo rep directly to walk me through it. You have to agree to rent a car before you can ask the owner any questions. The rep said that was being worked on.

I rented a car through Turo and returned it with no damage, but left it in a garage at 4 am. Was unable to get good pictures due to no lighting and the flash causing you unable to see the car. The car was picked up from the garage by the owners assistant at 10 am, yet the next morning the owner filed a claim for a “scratch” on the car. Turo was unable to tell me if they could get a time stamp on the photo taken as I don’t believe the scratch is currently on the car. It took days for a customer service rep to get back to me, then they set up a call with me to discuss it and never called or answered when I called them. Then they told me they would charge my card 500$ in the next the 24 hours without even having spoken to me to discuss my concerns. After 2 weeks of fighting with them they waived a BS fee off 150$ for processing. This was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had, and the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had. The cheap price of rental is not worth the hassle!!!

Take a million pictures of the vehicle before you drive away with it! The renter filed a claim against us stating we caused damage to his roof. Total coming to $468!! I wish I could include a picture of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler in Arvada, CO but this platform will not allow for it. It was our word against his and that was that! No real negotiations on settlement occurred. Hertz, Enterprise and company like that will walk around the vehicle both before and after the rental and go over any issues. Go with something like that instead so everything is on the up and up and there are no unpleasant surprises!

Turo is a fraud! Don’t rent from these scam artists! My husband and I rented from turo without issue several times. One car rental was an 8 day rental and it was great. A second car rental was for 5 days, again, no problems. Sadly, the last time we were accused of damage that I know was not caused by us, but there’s no way of defending ourselves against damage underneath the car because it never occurred to us to take pictures of underneath the car when we turned it in. The owner filed the complaint about the damage a couple of days after he picked it up from us, after giving us an excellent rating, and we never saw the damage first hand. In the end, the owner can say you caused damage that you didn’t and they expect you to hand over $600+ compliantly, without even sharing an itemized repair estimate to request the repair payment. You are better off with a traditional car rental. Sadly, “if it’s too good to be true...” is a good saying to go by with this company. This company is a fraud.

If I could give zero stars I would. Turo has disappointed me on more than one occasion. Nobody in this company goes around checking on the cars before you rent them. Some of these cars are unsafe to drive. Some of these cars are filthy on the outside. I rented a car on my birthday just to have the owner of the vehicle call me the morning of my birthday to tell me that the car had a dead battery. On another occasion I rented a Corvette that had bald tires and had paint chipping off the side. I had to pick up the Corvette from a valet service and even the valet driver told me I should not take the car because the tires were extremely bald . I also rented a Mercedes Benz that was filthy on the outside so I had to get the car washed and take time out of my day. The last straw was when I tried to rent a Porsche Panamera and once again it had bald tires and the tires were cracking. I had talk to the Owner Of the vehicle and he said the tires were fine that they were recently inspected which was a total lie nobody would consider those tires safe. Out of the six times I rented from Turo only 2 times was a decent experience. The sad part is that every time I run a car are usually plan something ahead of time just to find out the car is unsafe and my plans are ruined. Owners of these vehicles want to make as much money as possible off of their vehicles. They don’t care if it causes a safety hazard they are just trying to get paid. Now I just rent from Hertz.

Avoid this app/service and use more reliable car rental firms. If I could give a zero star rating, I would. I'm visiting San Francisco for a very important sales meeting, approximately 45 minutes from the city. Yesterday, I booked a trip via Turo and arranged to collect the car at 8am, giving me 1 hour and 30 minutes to arrive at my meeting. The trip was confirmed the previous day by Turo. Around 30 minute before my scheduled collection time (7.30am), I messaged the car owner to make arrangements for hand-over. He messaged back immediately saying that he had no knowledge of the booking and, in fact, he had taken his car 'out of service' on Turo because if was being repaired. I tried to book another car on Turo but it would allow me as it seemingly requires bookings to be made 3 hours beforehand (which is understandable). Unfortunately, by the time I tracked down a rental car, travelled to collect it, etc. I missed my meeting slot and the main purpose of my trip was in vain. To add insult to injury, Turo deducted the full charge for the trip that didn't occur. Moreover, it's many hours now since I emailed Turo outlining what occurred and I have not received even an automated acknowledgement. Again, it there's somewhere that you have to be, or more generally, you wish to avoid serious inconvenience, avoid Turo.

This was my first time doing Turo. The service was great, but the owner of the vehicle was a bit misleading. The car was dirty when we got it, and had barely any fuel. We picked up the trash, and put fuel in the vehicle. This was my first time using Turo, so I had a few errors on the check in time. But the owner of the vehicle declined an extension, and suddenly I had 1 hour and 45 minute to get from Glendale to LAX. The car was clean, and I got a photo of it just before we brought it back. He is claiming there was bird poop, trash and crumbs. Which is all nonsense. He waited until I gave him a 5 star review, and then slapped my profile on my very first rental with a 1 star review and claimed the car needs a $50 dollar cleaning fee. For reference, we cleaned the car and left it better than we found it. More gas, less trash, and only 10 minutes late. We should be charging him a cleaning fee to be quite blunt. And his car constantly had an indication that it was overdue for an oil change.

This company does not even deserve one star. The overall experience I had today has completely turned me away from using this app. I am 21 and meet all eligibility requirements. I tried to rent a car and the app does not allow me, saying I am not eligible. I contacted customer service, which was a nightmare. I spent over 2 hours chatting with these “reps”, receiving response times of up to 15 minutes apart. When the rep asked for further verification documents, I provided all necessary information. The rep said my account will be reviewed shortly and I would be notified of my status. I received an email about 20 minutes later assuring me that I am approved to rent a car. So, I try to rent a car and the same thing happens all over again. I once again contact support, and I was told this time that they placed a hold on my account and there’s nothing they can do to help me. Why tell me I am approved when I still am not able to rent a car? When I finally found a phone number, I spoke to a rude customer service rep who seemed to have no clue what they were doing. They provided no assistance whatsoever and I was told “you are lucky you are even talking to a rep this quickly”. Awful customer service, awful user interface, awful company all around. Do your research before choosing and planning with Turo. I will surely never use this app and I will make sure to let everyone I know of my troubles.

Money was stolen from my bank account two times by Turo claiming i damage this vehicle three hours after it was dropped off . I STATE MY LIFE ON THE FACT THAT I DID NOT DAMAGE THIS VEHICLE. I was told by a friend about TURO. Decided to give it a try and looked for a car. I noticed that some hosts are individuals and there's one or 2 that the same person had several cars like a business. I actually tried to avoid the that one...something was telling me to look for an individual and not a company. My instincts were right! So, mistakenly I ended up choosing a car from host ERIC K. THis person seems to run a business within TURO . I picked a Nissan Altima and chose the highest car insurance protection they had available. The pictures online were completely misleading ( I just found that out when I arrived there…I will get to it…) So this guy picks me up at the airport and takes me to their office to pick up the car. The office was about 30 minutes away. I finally was able to see the car and it looked like the car had been in a war…scratched all over, missing one of the wheel covers, the front/side panes almost falling off…in all honesty it looked like trash. So I asked if I could get another car and the other guy that was at the location tells me there were no more cars ( there were about 20 cars parked) This guy is talking to me looking at everywhere but me and always on the phone. So I spotted a BMW convertible and asked if I could get that one instead. He said I would have to call TURO directly and cancel the current trip and book another trip. I asked if he could help me…Not easy…he said I had to do it myself and walked away. I got TURO on the phone and it was possible but took about 1 hour under the sun to get it done. ONE HOUR JUST TO CANCEL THE CURRENT TRIP. So I went to check the BMW and for my luck one of the tires was slashed to the point where if you were driving it too fast or hit a hole it could blow up. The guy didn’t seem to care and asked me if I still wanted the car. ( No comments ) So eventually I saw a Mustang and asked about that one. It was available. It was actually a new car. (Remember when I asked for another car they said there was nothing available) . So I got the Mustang. I had to book another trip on the application because nothing could be done over the phone. I talked to TURO, then TURO had to call the host then the host had to approve it then I had to wait for TURO to cancel the previous trip….it was a ordeal !!! Finally got the car and asked where to I return the car: there at their location or at the airport. The guy said: you can return it here and we will take you to the airport. So I figure it was OK since they picked me up at the airport but all the paperwork would have to be done at their location. After 2 hours I finally left and went to my life in Orange County. The day I had to return I was planning the return time and figured 3 hours would be enough to drop the car and get a ride from them to the airport to take my flight. So I arrived there at 8 pm. Please note this is a place about 30 minutes from the airport and not the best neighborhood. SO I dropped the car and a different guy was there. I asked if he would be the one taking me to the airport. He looks at me and checks his papers and says I am not scheduled to be taken to the airport so he would not take me. I started getting frustrated… with 2 suitcases, having no idea how to get to LAX with a flight to catch in a few hours. SO I asked the guy: what do you mean I am not scheduled? I need a ride to the airport as agreed. At this point he looks at me and says: Sorry you are not schedule so I can’t take you. I asked to speak to the host ERIC K as I couldn’t believe what was happening and was told: He is not available, he is a busy man! I asked if someone else could take me. The guy said: NO you have to figure a ride yourself! At that point I am very frustrated and said you must be kidding me! Then he sais out loud to me in a confrontational way: DO NOT TALK TO ME LIKE THAT EVER!! I AM FROM THE STREETS! Man…I was 2 seconds away from calling the police , The guy was threatening me! The same guy that was representing the host ERIC K. was at that point threatening he was a bad guy from the street! WOW!!! I gave him the key and walked away…next door there was a company moving trash or boxes I am not sure and I approached them to ask how I could get a cab. The guy said there were no cans around and I would have to call…he was actually helping me more than this host ERIC K’ employee. I am at this point all stressed out thinking I am about to lose my flight. This guy from the company next door tells me I could call an UBER too. I realized I actually had the application but didn’t think about it with all the situation…so I called an UBER and 15 minutes later it arrived. Finally, I got to the airport and was able to catch my flight. I contacted the host ERIC K after landing in FL as the day before he wouldn’t answer and finally, he started communication with me via text. Here’s what he had to say: I was very rude and ship because I booked a cheap car and to learn how to use the TURO APP next time. He was going to write such a bad review from me that no one would rent me a car. I explained him that his perspective was twisted: I am the client and without me he has no business to run. I have several other options to rent a car from. This was the help I received from this person/company. I lost $35 on the UBER and neither TURO or ERIC K refunded me and they both ignored the entire situation. After what I went through the minimum you both could have done was to refund me not just the UBER part but the entire rental car cost plus a HUGE apology. This review is to prevent possible new clients to have to go through what I had to go through. BTW: this is the short version of what happened. It was just a TERRIBLE experience.

Rented a Tesla for 2 days. My flight was early on the second day so I said I would be dropping off early even though there would be no reduction in the rental cost. My flight got changed to later so I notified the owner that I would need the car for the full two days that I had already paid for. Owner ignored my request. Turo then charged me a ridiculously exorbitant late fee even though I returned the car in LESS than 48 hours on a two day rental, Turo citing the late return policy. I tried to explain that a "Late" fee is supposed to cover either real or potential financial loss to the company, not just simply to punish the customer. No loss occurred since I was charged for a full two day rental and I returned the car within that 48 hour period. Just to be clear, I only said I was returning the car early to allow Turo to plan for my return, not to save any money. The Turo lot is manned 24/7 so it's not like they sent somebody there early just for me. Stupid illogical policy with stupid illogical people enforcing it!!! In addition the Tesla was in very poor condition. TPMS light on, every rim had severe curb rash, front passenger side lower bumper had been hit hard, passenger door had 8 inch dent, multiple other half dollar sized dents all over, interior not vacuumed, auto pilot kept shutting off even though I was operating it correctly.

Hosts BEWARE! Most of the good reviews about Turo are about the experience customers had with the host who owns the car. This is true. Good people. Turo themselves is not honorable. We were hosts and paid for the midlevel of insurance to protect our car. I witnessed my renter drive my car over the curb and heard the loud scraping sound of him damaging the underside of my bumper. Because I could not take pictures of the area before and after for comparison Turo refused to cover the damages to my car. It is physically impossible to take such pictures and I witnessed the accident. They did the same to a friend who was also a host. His renter took the car on a prohibited road. Friend had GPS tracker to show road was taken and when. Renter damaged brand new brakes. Turo refused coverage because no picture could show the area. I don't trust this company and will never use or recommend them again.

Disgruntled Turo Client Frankfort, KY

My experience was bad. Rented a car in Houston Jan 2019,for a work trip. Booked for drop and pickup at terminal curbside.. first one cancelled about 3 days before my trip. Found another one with free curbside service at terminal. Driver started trying to say he could not meet me at terminal when I left and said he didn’t have to even though the contract clearly stated. That took my time with emails back and forth to company to straighten out. Then he was late by 30 minutes at my departure! The car stalled out at times in Houston traffic too! Then, after I had decided it wasn’t that bad and left him a good review despite all that, he starts saying I didn’t return it with enough fuel! After several emails over next few days, they finally dropped that. But then charged me $30 cleaning fee! The car had normal dirt from a hotel parking lot and some drives on Houston streets and highways but nothing off road and no eating in car or anything else other than a pamphlet and a receipt on floor.. the company backed him up so I had to pay that. So.. after the emailing over cancellation of first rental at last minute, emailing over trying to back out of contract to pickup at curbside, waiting at curbside, emailing over gas charges, and emailing them being charged the cleaning fee that no normal rental company would charge, this ended up costing me more than budget or Payless, etc, in the long run. I won’t go back.

I had a nightmare experience with Turo. My booking I made in Aug of 2018 was cancelled just 2 hours before it was to begin in January. I was in Hawaii and no cars were available to rent from any standard car rental company. Turo did help me find another car and pay some of the difference, but I was still out a shocking additional $750. My choice was to pay, or be without a car and ultimately have no way to get to my sleeping destination. My lesson with Turo is that you can't count on the owner to honor their booking. While it may work many times and my story is anecdotal, I'd ask you this simple question: When can you afford not to get a car you booked?

Our Turo host, Johnny was very nice. Using the Turo app to check in and out was easy and simple. Turo made it more affordable to rent a car and to enjoy more of our vacation.

I rented Tesla and Mercedes GLS450 via Turo in San Francisco back in 2018 and recommended to my wife. However, my wife was decline to rent because she is not “eligible” and asked her to provide driving records from DMV. She has tier 1 credit score, used AMEX platinum card and her driving record is spotless..... except she had handicap status due to her Multiple Scrosis. We asked why she is not eligible, Turo customer support told us differ reasons every time we chat or spoke. Then asked to take a picture with driver’s license and send. Chatted and spoke with 9 customer support and fail to rent a car and wasted whole 2 days and the trip has been cancelled. All the stressful exchanges and long wait, Frank from Verification department just made us HATE Turo now. Keep talking over me and rudest manner and tone to us, the customer!!! Frank has no clue the meaning of customer support!!! Most likely, Turo descriminate against handicap drives and Turo does not want MS driver even though she can drive better than me. We see and hear the quality of people who operating Turo last 2 days. Maybe good idea of startup, but this management team will fail in long run. Just rented a car from Enterpirse. They picked up us and didn’t decline or asked for driving record. Never use Turo again and 100% do not recommend to friends.

Turo was a pleasurable site to work with. Simple enough to manage since I have difficulties maneuvering through the internet without the help of my daughters.

Needed to rent a mini-van / SUB to haul the family over the Christmas vacation. Turo was very easy to setup, provided the best price, and excellent service.
