Tick Tock Energy was founded in 2006 by the Pals brothers: Craig, Eric, and Matt. Eric was in the thick of a successful electrical contracting career when he developed an interest for renewable energy sources. Craig was working on power generation development projects as an engineer when Eric reached out about a potential career change. Matt at the time was focusing on the family electrical contracting business. In late 2004, the brothers started to get serious about going into business together and by early 2006, Tick Tock Energy was born.

Since its founding, Tick Tock Energy has amassed over 250 clients helping them reduce energy costs by implementing a wide range of energy savings solutions. To date, Tick Tock Energy has successfully completed projects in nine states: Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arkansas and Nebraska.

Tick Tock Energy has partnered with a number of renewable energy organizations including Ameren Illinois, ISEA (Illinois Solar Energy Association), and MOSEIA (Missouri Solar Energy Industries Association). The company has earned the Top 500 Solar Contractors Award each year from 2015 to 2019.

The Good

  • Solar Installation Services
  • Additional Services
  • Solar Sales and Equipment Process
  • Expansive Service Area

Solar Installation Services

When most people think of solar systems, they envision the traditional roof mounted system. A vast majority of solar installation companies only offer roof-mounted solar systems as an option to clients. With the electrician and engineering background of the Tick Tock Energy team, the company is able to offer the following solar installation services:

  • Roof Mounted
  • Ground Mounted
  • AllEarth Solar Trackers
  • Bergey Wind Turbines
  • Wall Mounted Solar Awnings and Solar Patios
  • Off Grid/Emergency Power Backup

By offering so many forms of installation, Tick Tock Energy has a solution for nearly every property or structure.

Additional Services

In addition to providing traditional solar installation services, Tick Tock Energy also offers other energy savings solutions to clients. The Tick Tock Energy team can offer power management, daylighting, and LED lighting solutions to clients to further enhance the electricity savings and management for each client. Not many solar installation companies provide these types of services.

Solar Sales and Equipment Process

Tick Tock Energy has fully NABCEP-certified sales people on staff. These individuals are qualified and have the experience necessary to broker the best equipment deals on behalf of the client. After the initial consultation and design, the sales team can go out and get the best equipment for the project at an ideal price for the client. This saves the client money while also providing them with the best solar equipment for their particular project.

Most solar installation companies will only install one or two types of brand equipment, but Tick Tock Energy has virtually unlimited options in this space.

Expansive Service Area

Solar installation is a geographically limited business for the most part. It is rare for a solar installation company to service more than one state. Most solar installation companies have not found ways to expand and offer services in other states or regions of the country.

Tick Tock Energy is one of the few companies that have figured out how to manage projects in other states and has covered a good portion of the midwest. To date, Tick Tock Energy has completed projects in the following states:

  • Illinois
  • Missouri
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Ohio
  • Michigan
  • Pennsylvania
  • Arkansas
  • Nebraska

By offering services in so many states, Tick Tock Energy is equipped to handle more prospective solar customers than most providers in the industry.

The Bad

  • Lack of Financing Options
  • Undisclosed Workmanship Warranty

Lack of Financing Options

The average cost of a residential solar system in the United States ranges from $15,000 to $25,000 depending on the energy needs, number of panels, and size of the property. This is a substantial investment and many prospective customers interested in having a solar system installed are not able to pay the upfront costs to have a system put in.

Federal and state tax incentives or rebates are available, but each property owner will have to independently qualify for those breaks. Even still, those incentives will not cover the cost of the solar system or the installation making it difficult for many to access renewable energy.

To combat this issue, most solar installation companies offer financing options whether through the company itself or by partnering with a credit union or loan system. This allows more people to access solar as a whole. However, Tick Tock Energy does not offer residential financing options and prospective customers will need to consider that prior to using the service.

Undisclosed Workmanship Warranty

Since any solar project is a financial investment, most solar installation companies offer a workmanship warranty to protect the client in the event of an issue. On average, the solar installation industry offers a 10-year workmanship warranty to clients. This warranty covers any issues stemming from installation errors or miscalculations. While these mistakes are not common, they do happen, and when they do it is important to be covered.

However, Tick Tock Energy does not appear to offer a workmanship warranty or has decided to not publicly disclose the details of that warranty. Most solar installation companies make that information public and use it as a sales tactic, so it is odd that Tick Tock Energy makes no mention of a workmanship warranty.

The Bottom Line

Tick Tock Energy comprises electrical and solar services in a number of midwest states. In addition to providing traditional roof-mounted installation, Tick Tock Energy installs solar project mounts on a wide range of properties including residential, commercial, and farming units.

Since the company was founded by electricians and engineers, Tick Tock Energy also offers other electrical and money saving services. The solar sales team with Tick Tock Energy is certified and well-equipped to find an ideal equipment option for each and every client. To date, Tick Tock Energy has completed projects in nine states.

While there are a number of reasons prospective clients should consider Tick Tock Energy for solar installation services, there are some concerns to be aware of. First, Tick Tock Energy does not provide its own financing options to clients and most need to qualify for state or federal tax incentives. The company also does not make guarantees concerning the workmanship on each solar project.

Prospective solar clients would likely benefit from what Tick Tock Energy has to offer. The company has an incredible service area reach, can offer additional electrical and money saving services, and provides an array of installation options to each property owner.
