Sugar Hollow Solar is a full-service solar company dedicated to helping North Carolina homeowners turn to renewable energy solutions.
Sugar Hollow Solar was founded in 2010 by cousins Phelps Clarke and Doug Ager. Together they built this company with a simple goal in mind: build a business that helps heal the world. And with every solar installation, they are doing just that. Celebrating their dedication to renewable energy, Clarke and Ager were voted the best solar installer in Western North Carolina by Mountain Express readers.
Currently, Sugar Hollow Solar offers the following renewable energy solutions:
Sugar Hollow Solar is proud to be a certified Tesla Powerwall installer. Tesla solar panels are known for their sleek, modern design, which quietly converts sunlight into energy and is an excellent option for those who prefer a minimalistic style.
However, in addition to their sleek looks, Tesla solar panels are built to last. The panels are installed rail-free and with interlocking brackets, installation points are sealed to protect against snow, wind, and rain, and they have a concealed edge to hide the hardware.
Because Sugar Hollow Solar is a certified installer, you can rest easy knowing that your technicians know what they are doing and install the Tesla panels correctly.
Sugar Hollow Solar currently has four NABCEP-certified solar experts spearheading all solar system installations. Having a NABCEP accredited technician on staff is not required of solar companies, but having one (or in this case four) shows that the company is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that clients receive the very best service. The NABCEP sets high standards for solar technicians and only certifies those up to the task.
Sugar Hollow Solar is a SunPower authorized dealer if you prefer to have SunPower panels installed. All technicians are trained and capable of installing SunPower panels.
Sugar Hollow Solar doesn’t just offer its solar services to homeowners but businesses as well. If you are within the service area and interested in working with Sugar Hollow Solar, we recommend that you first check out the company’s Case Studies page on the website. Here, you can look at some of the past work Sugar Hollow Solar has completed and decide if it is something you want for your home or business.
We love Sugar Hollow Solar’s case studies page because it goes into detail about each project and what panels, inverters, and batteries were installed. This level of detail is not always necessary, but we appreciate Sugar Hollow Solar providing it for the solarheads out there.
Sugar Hollow Solar honestly seems to be committed to making its community a better place. Not only does the company work with local marketing companies such as Mountain Laurel Digital and Rotanz Design, but it also works with nonprofit organizations. In fact, for every new customer referred to by a Sugar Hollow Solar client, the company donates to the environmental nonprofit Asheville GreenWorks.
Sugar Hollow Solar is a smaller, local solar company and therefore doesn’t have a huge service area. Unfortunately, this limits the number of people who can work with the company. Consequently, we recommend that all homeowners and businesses contact the company directly and ask if they are in the current service area. It’s an extra step, but it’s better to know beforehand if you are even eligible for Sugar Hollow’s services.
Sugar Hollow Solar's website doesn’t include much about warranty lengths or financing information. We know that the company installs Tesla and SunPower solar panels, so it’s safe to assume that the warranty length would be whatever those companies offer. Still, we would like to see Sugar Hollow Solar state this somewhere on its website or even provide a link to where consumers could learn more. That way, all the information is provided upfront and clients will have fewer questions.
Additionally, we know that Sugar Hollow Solar provides financing for clients because the FAQ page states that. However, it is unclear what financing options are available. It would be helpful if Sugar Hollow Solar would provide just a bit more information, so clients know what to expect going forward.
