The Good

  • No Subcontracting
  • Maintenance Included
  • System Monitoring
  • Awards and Certifications
  • ION Earth Program

No Subcontracting

ION Solar does not outsource any of its installations, meaning the company installs every solar panel and inverter itself. Working with a full-service provider like ION Solar generally bodes well for homeowners as the company will then have full control over who is in and around your home and your family.

If you ever come across a company that does use subcontractors for any part of the project, we would suggest you tread carefully. While the solar company itself might be licensed, the subcontractors might not be. Additionally, the more people who are involved in the project, the bigger chance there is for miscommunication and lack of quality.

Maintenance Included

ION Solar states that the system it provides you includes free maintenance and repairs for the entire life of the contract.

In reality, solar panels don't require much maintenance other than being sprayed down with water every few months to keep off the dust and dirt buildup that could limit sunlight exposure.

However, if something does happen, ION Solar will be there to take care of it for you.

System Monitoring

Another beneficial feature ION Solar offers is system monitoring. Unfortunately, the company doesn't specify exactly what that monitoring entails, whether it's for production, usage, or both. It's to your benefit to have both.

However, ION Solar states that it will monitor your system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If there's ever a problem, the company will know about it and send a technician out immediately.

Awards and Certifications

ION Solar has been listed as one of America's 500 fastest-growing companies by Inc. Magazine. The company has also been certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), a solar industry-recognized nonprofit organization charged with promoting best practices in solar power.

ION Earth Program

ION Solar is a featured partner of Habitat for Humanity. It's humanitarian program, ION Earth, provides a free solar panel system to a family in need for every 2 megawatts of clean, renewable energy ION Solar installs. It is impressive to see solar companies go beyond their everyday business practices to promote clean energy and other causes with their reach and efforts.

The Bad

  • Limited Availability
  • No Solar Energy Storage

Limited Availability

Unfortunately, ION Solar's availability is relatively limited; the company only offers its services in eight states:

  • Colorado
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • Virginia

Customers who live outside of this service area won't be able to take advantage of the company's renewable energy services.

No Solar Energy Storage

Ion Solar does not provide solar battery storage as an available system upgrade to its residential solar arrays. Many leading solar companies offer their customers a solar energy storage system as a way to maximize the efficiency of their solar system.

gavel

The Bottom Line

ION Solar does not subcontract any of its work and offers system maintenance and monitoring, and provides several payment options (including a solar lease) to help customers reduce their dependence on fossil fuel. However, if you're looking for a solar provider that installs solar battery options alongside panels and inverters, you will need to consult another solar company.

We recommend reaching out to ION Solar directly if you live in a state where the company operates and are interested in making the switch to solar.

Ion Solar has the worst sales culture! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not disturb people who have clearly placed No Soliciting signs. No clue if you have a great product but STOP BOTHERING PEOPLE AT THEIR HOMES who have asked you not to. I have requested several times since 2023 to be on your Do Not Knock list. So please don’t tell me to ask again! Their door to door sales people have harassed me so much at home with clearly posted No Soliciting signs that I actually got Ion Solar to buy me a large red NO SOLICITING sign last summer. I escalated multiple complaints to them each time a sales rep disregarded our clearly posted signage. I am completely at a loss as to why an Ion Solar sales rep knocked on my door just now. Walked past a giant bright red no soliciting sign that blocks my walkway, didn't regard the additional No soliciting sign on my door and proceeded to knock anyways. Will be reporting this again to Better Business Bureau, FTC and their corporate headquarters. I get you need to make a living and I have respect for sales people and solar power but stop interrupting me at home! Ion Solar - What are you doing systemically to address this issue?

This was absolutely the worst company I’ve ever dealt with! The salesman sold a product and made guarantees about a market he knew nothing about. They are not upfront about any cancelation fees, and their communication both within the company as well as externally is HORRID! I started this process 6/8/2023 and did not get everything completed to operate until 2/9/2024. The initial site survey should have been completed on 6/13 but ended up being rescheduled multiple times for various reasons. They blamed the weather, but it was a sunny day, the guy did not show up another time, and eventually an entirely different technician took over to get the site survey completed which was some time around August. At this time is when I requested things to be canceled and was bullied with this cancelation fee despite the issue being with ION and their technicians. This was the overall trend with everything else that followed, the actual installation was rescheduled, the inspections were rescheduled, check for permits was sent to the incorrect place, etc. This led to me missing a lot of work/money and it was just an entire mess. I'm still not satisied with ION as the salesman guaranteed my panels would be on the front of the house instead of the back. Overall, I regret every giving ION the time of day.

I hated my experience with Ion. I don't recommend their services. I wish I could provide negative stars. I was promised Benefits that will not occur and despite the representatives that I spoke with. My grievances were dismissed, and Ion made no effort to make things right. I was the guinea pig for my cul-de-sac, because a few of my neighbors want to go solar. I will not recommend Ion. I understand mistakes happen, but no one tried to make it right. If that was an example of the service I will receive in the future, I'm not looking forward it.

The whole process was a scam. Was quoted one price and charged another someone high up called and was going to reimburse us a quoted amount that would make our first year the payment that was given at sign up but never received. Now a year later my electricity bill is higher than it was before. Call customer service multiple times and always get the run around about about it. They say they will go over break down and get back to me and sometimes they send a email that just says what my bill says. Or tell me to reach out to provider and provider says they only capture what I use not was made. The worse decision I've made in my life. Don't fall for it.

They left me hanging for 6 months, had to call them all the time to see what was going on. Then after 6 months told me they couldn't do the job, made me think they were scamming me into going to someone else then it would come back on me and I would owe them money because of the clause in the contract. So if you go with them make sure you have defined time lines in the contract.

Company not very good after the sale. I am still paying almost $200 on my electricity bill. I called my electric company and they showed me where the panels were producing a good amount of energy at the beginning but then the panels started under performing after 6 months. I contacted ION Solar and explained to them about the panels under performing to see if someone could come out and inspect the panels. I was told someone would get in touch with me. I waited for 2 weeks and no one reached out to me. I called a second time and told them this was the second time I was calling and explained to them again what the issue was with the panels and once again I was told again that someone would reach out to me. A couple of days later I received an email with charts and graphs explaining the way the panels produce energy. But still no one to physically come out and inspect the panels to see if they were connected correctly or damaged! This was in 2022. We are now 2023 and still no action from ION Solar. I am still paying up to $200 a month for electricity plus the regular payment for the panels! I would not recommend this company for this reason

I was dealing with ION and thought things were going well. We had passed all the inspections and were set to install. Everyone showed up on install-day and everyone was busy in their own little area when it was announced that the roof had to be replaced (after it had just passed its inspection). I said, "That sounds like fraud and I am done>" They all picked up their things and left, thinking that they would probably be back. In the meantime the A/C had gotten disconnected. Come to find out they were also overpriced. I have tried now for over a year to get them back here just to reconnect the A/C but to no avail. I still have salesmen come to the door and when they hear my story they are aghast and know someone who can help. Have had a couple of phone calls but NO ONE has stepped foot on the property to even try to fix the problem. I am a rather easy going guy it has also taken over a year for me to write this review. The bottom line is I would not have them ever touch my home or property again. I would NOT recommend them to anyone except to AVOID like the plague.

So disappointed and ready to share it with EVERYONE. Of course the salesman, Chris, was charming and made us feel like your company was #1 but as the process continued it seem like things just kept going downhill. The latest is I literally emailed everyone I ever sealed with at ION because I was not getting g a return Email or call back from my sales man or his supervisor. My solar was turned on 2 months ago and my last electric bill was higher than the previous one. I asked if someone could get back with us and show us how to properly read the ION App and help us figure out what we are looking at - to no avail. If this does not get handled this coming month I promise I will speaking to many more people. Terrible FOLLOW UP with ION 👎🏻

Quite possibly the worst company I’ve ever worked with as far as communicating and keeping a project on schedule. As someone who works in utility-scale solar, I fully understand the processes involved, utility requirements, and hoops to jump through that cause delays, but my goodness, Ion really took things to a whole new level of terrible. There were constantly changing “project managers” who failed to communicate and clearly had no clue what was going on, installation crews that changed each time they visited our house, and generally speaking, Ion was just hard to work with. They don’t even provide direct contact info for the project managers, just a stupid general phone number to call. Will never recommend them to anyone looking to install solar.

This is the almost the worst experience I have ever had with a company providing installation. Their project management was completely hopeless. They took months longer than needed then even now they say it’s complete it stopped working the first weekend. Run from them and use any other provider but ION. The only contractor that has ever been worse was a person who defrauded us in a scam but honestly this was nearly as bad an experience. Run.

Started out great.. and turned into almost a year long project. Finally got completed, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in the final workmanship. The panels do seem to be working. So that’s obviously good, but I’m concerned with other damage issues. Not to mention the money I lost in production over the 10 months it took to complete. I wanted to refer a bunch of people, but now I don’t feel good about it.

The system has yet to produce enough power to affect my bill in anyway. In fact it has hardly changed at all and now I have a $125 bill in addition to my power bill. Additionally, the tax credit was not near what was discussed when I got sold the system. This has turned out to do nothing other than cost me additional money. It also took nearly 11 months for the system install to be completed and turned on.

I would not recommend ION Solar. The process takes a long time, understandably not all ION’s fault, but due to an error in our address on paperwork AFTER the panels were already installed delayed the process significantly. The customer service in the final stages was so poor that we had to continue following up to see what part of the process we were in after installation and when they would be turned on. No communication after the panels were installed. Installation was completed in December 2022 and our panels were finally turned on in February 2023. We randomly got an email in February providing us with step by step instructions on how to turn on the system OURSELVES and went outside to see that everything was already on! But we were not entirely sure as we are not the professionals? No follow through from their end to actually turn on the system with us and walk us through setting up the app and show us how to work everything. My husband figured out the app on his own and we have had one panel not working and no one still has cared to stop by to fix the issue or let us know things are working properly or thank us for being a customer. They said they were sorry but they have been so busy! Busy, walking door to door to get those numbers or meet their quotas, too busy to go back to those homes and make sure the customers they already sold to were satisfied customers. On another note, they are lying when they tell you, you will get $9000 back in your tax refund. This is not something they should be telling people because it’s not the case for everyone. This should not be the selling point to get customers. If they can stop by my house and sell me a product, they should be able to return to my house in person to make sure we are even happy, but now we are stuck. In the options for submitting this review the longest option is 1-2 months from the time the contract is signed to the time the system was FULLY installed. We signed our contract in June 2022 and our system was turned on in February 2023 totaling 8 months!

We were very disappointed to not have solar panels. We had a great offer and signed up. We were told we could wrap the roof as part of the contract with the low, low rate, so that was grand. ION provided us with a bid, and we had our own roofer provide a bid. After we decided on our roofer, ION kept sending us the 2nd contract to sign, with their roofer even though I told them repeatedly we would use our roofer and that the first contract was the one we had signed and still wanted. At that point, communicating with ION became difficult. Phone calls, texts, emails -- none were replied to. In the end, finally, I asked point blank whether their original contract was invalidated and for whatever reason, it was. Further research showed that it is illegal to wrap a roof replacement into a solar panel contract, so we could not legally have gotten the rebate on the whole package as we were assured.

This process began in September of 2022 and was not completed until March of 2023 due to delays on both my utility company's side as well as Ion's. I understand Ion is at the mercy of utility companies for some of these delays. Regardless, the communication I received from Ion was poor to put it nicely. For most of the last 6 months, I did not have a dedicated account rep and by the time I got one at the end of February 2023, even she was surprised to hear all the troubles I'd been through. In addition, this was an add on system to an already functioning system I had on my roof. Upon installation of the new panels, my original panels that were already in production were turned off with no explanation as to why. Upon receiving an account rep in February, she was also surprised to hear this and confirmed they shouldn't have been turned off. She gave the OK to turn the system back on, which I did, and which I found another issue - the original system was malfunctioning. An electrician was then called out to correct the original system and did so. Just last weekend, I got clearance to put both systems into production, but this is 3 months after I've paid for full energy usage. I was told there was a possibility to have the amount paid to the utility company removed from the system cost, but once my system was deemed "complete," I have been ghosted by the account rep.

I’m a resident of the town of Dumfries and last year I had solar panels installed. At first I was thrilled to have them, it was something that I knew that it could help. There was a lot of miscommunication with the people when they came to install it, the worst thing was that after three months of the installation my “enphase”panel fell off, it was hanging after their installation. I tried to communicate with them so they could fix it, for months I contacted them repeatedly and there was no response. And apart from that after the installation team finished nobody took the time to show me or give me a walkthrough of the installation. I think that I have invested a-lot of money almost $43,000 and adding to that I am still paying bills to the utilities company. So for those who are thinking of getting an installation from here I want you to look for better options because “ION solar” is not a good one at one point I started to think that I got scammed by these people, so please think before you get panels installed from them.

ION has had terrible communication throughout this process. There is little coordination between the teams and delays occur because of it. They will get you to sign a contract and have the system installed in under a month so they can claim the system is sold off and you start paying for it before it's operational. After this they will leave you in the dark and take months to follow up and finish the project. ION made a bunch of claims about inspection requirements and long timelines out of their hands, but when I called the inspector directly they hadn't heard anything from ION and were able to fix the issue the next day. You are better off working directly with your county inspectors and energy company after installation to avoid ION confusion and get things done in a reasonable time. I've waited over 5 months after my system was installed before it was operational and ION is still clueless as to the current state of the project. Had I not did all of the coordination work for them I would still be without a working system. Extremely poor service from customer coordinators.

I signed up in July. The install started in November. I have made two monthly payments on my solar plus my utility payment to date as I’m still at 70% install complete in March.. I just received a text today that the permits have been resubmitted since they lapse and it usually takes another 4-6 weeks before they are ready for the rough in inspections. This means by the time that is done I will have made two more payments on a solar system that is not operational as well as my normal electrical utility payments. Thanks for making me pay double on my utility bill for who knows how long ION.!!

If I could give zero stars I would. I went in with a cash deal. Mistake….after they got their money they did do measurements and were going to follow up. Months went by and no contact so I reached out. They are working with my electric company. Another month goes by so I reach out again. Then they tell me my electric company has too many with solar and won’t work with them. They give an option of getting a power saver. I tell them great let me know pricing and time line. Now it is the holidays and hear nothing. Now after 6 months of being ignored I ask for a refund. I was told I would have to pay a fine for breaking the contract. Serious?? They said they would waive it after I explain the treatment they have given me. It has been over 2 weeks and I still had not gotten my refund. They said they needed updated info. It had not changed since they took my money so am struggling with that. Now I am still waiting to receive my deposit back. Don’t trust them enough to follow through in anything.

I wad very satisfied with my initial installation. However we opted to add additional panels to our existing system. We started the process in August our installation didn't happen until February. We have never been contacted by a project coordinator. At time of installation the electricians opted to use the existing connection panel without first consulting with me. This has resulted in my entire (new and existing) panels to remain offline since install. We were told that a project coordinator would be in contact with us 24 hours after install to discuss scheduling the city and county inspection. This still had not taken place. we've recieved no communication. I've requested numerous updates and not calls. Overall we were happy our original investment and system. However at this point I like to take the panels off.

Do not choose this company! I would give zero if I could. Let me tell you how I was cheated by this company. My sales rep was Ryan, and he came to my house at the end of July 2022 to introduce Ion Solar as a full-service company and the benefits of solar. First, he projected the solar panels based on my previous 12 months of utility bills in order to ensure the production of solar panels to meet my needs. Second, he pointed to one of my utility bills and stated the Energy Charge and Fuel Charge would show $0, and the only thing for which I had to be responsible was the tax, which Ion Solar could not void. In addition, he promised me that my utility bill would be less than $5 (tax) after my solar panels were activated. Third, I would receive a call back within 24–48 hours from customer experience if I had any problems. Here are the realistic ones: First, the solar panels did produce as estimated. Second, unfortunately, my utility bill was much higher than his promise. I had been paying $70 to $85 every month to the utility company since the solar was activated, plus $84 for the solar monthly premium. Compared to what my sales rep promised me, I had been paying $65 to $80 more every month. I had been calling the Ion Solar customer experience team for five months, and I had spoken with many people, such as Will, Daniel, and Michael. Will told me that his manager would take care of me if I could provide evidence about what my sales representative promised on my utility bill. I emailed my evidence to them a long time ago, but no one could really solve my issue. The most ironic thing was that everyone kept saying that the solar system produced 100% of its estimated output, which I had never questioned. I have attached my most recent utility bill was for 11/23/2022 - 12/22/2022, the total of Energy Charges and Fuel Charges was $92.94 without Ion Solar and Taxes, whereas the total bill was $85.67 with Ion Solar. However, my Ion Solar monthly premium is $84, so total I paid for current month was $85.67 plus $84. Third, as I said above, I had been calling this company many times. No one called me back during the time frame of 24-48 hours. Overall, I am so disappointed in the company’s ability to solve problems. The salesperson represents Ion Solar, not me. I think Ion Solar should have been fully responsible for their employees' overpromising. However, I have been fully responsible for his unprofessional behavior. The issue was that my utility company charged me a higher rate and credited me with a much lower rate. However, the root of this issue was my sales representative's overpromising, which caused this problem because he overpromised me the $5 on my utility bill that gave a good value for installing solar without any knowledge about how my utility company credit consumers. It is immoral behavior to utilize such an unprofessional resort as cheating consumers to meet their sales goals. As consumers, we only buy the product that will offer more value for us. As I explained, the salesperson promised the big value which was I could save money with Ion Solar, but it did not come true. Be aware! Do not trust this company! Avoiding ion solar is an intelligent decision if you are deciding to install solar!

On Thursday 25 August 2022 at 12:35 US/Pacific in NE Portland, Oregon, an Ion Solar representative who identified himself only as Jim and would not give further contact information ignored the clearly displayed "No Soliciting" sign displayed prominently on the property and proceeded to disrupt the household, with folks who work from home present and visibly working via the window, to make a sales pitch. When asked why he ignored the "No soliciting" sign, he said that he "thought the sign was cute" so he knocked (the sign has a cute image of a dog on it, but clearly reads "NO SOLICITING"). When I phoned the company, they said they never heard of "Jim", but that they do engage in door knocking practices for marketing. I asked to be sent a copy of their guidelines for employees who do this (specifically wanting to see if they are instructed to follow No Soliciting directives), and they refused. I encourage folks to avoid this company due to aggressive and inappropriate marketing tactics.

ION solar makes a lot of promises at the Point of Sale. Do not believe them. It is all a hoax. There has been zero cost savings in our electric and know one over there really cares to deal with the issue. We sent our 4 months of bills 2 weeks ago, and nothing. No communication, no action, no communication after multiple emails to follow up. In fact, there support email has emailed me multiple times that they need our bills to look at. I keep replying and send them off, while letting them know, we have done this already. For some reason my panels were installed on the west side of my house, while everyone on my street that faces the same direction, is on the east side of there home to catch the majority of the sun. Know one cares at ION Solar! I have also asked in my communication to have a manager come out, and Nothing.

The process was okay up until the install. The company switched our project coordinator a day or two before the install. I had items left on my roof to include a crowbar to slide down a few days later. After the install, it took weeks for someone to come out and do the inspection. The first reschedule wasn’t their fault but they didn’t prioritize the ones who were pushed to get them on the schedule. It’s now been about a month and a half since my panels were placed on my house. They still aren’t operational. I can’t get the company to come back here to fix the issues found by the city with the panels. Actually wish I went with a different company.

No organization. We had final inspectors showing up right after the install. We still had to get the panel done and Xcel out. We had numerous ION installers in our house that had no clue what they were there for. Also had repeat installers come by cause notes were not put in system properly. The kicker was they wanted to move panel to another wall. Which ended up being the bathroom shower. We had to tell at least three different people they can not move it to that wall cause our shower is there. You think they would have put that in thier notes. At the end they grounded the panel wrong and tried to blow up my house. That was excitement, and took about 9 hours to fix. So stay away. Tell everyone you know to just stay away.

I highly recommend finding a different company. Its like working with a car dealership, once they have your signature you don't mean a thing to them, and they don't stand by anything they said. I was told that my system would produce approximately 118% of my previous years energy consumption, just under the max of the 120% maximum allowed. My system is 8.5kw and has never produced more than 6.4kw, Less than 75% of what I was told, meaning the system will not be able to cover my yearly energy consumption at this rate. Their workers are unprofessional just like every other aspect of their service short of the sales person getting you into the contract. The works were unprofessional, cursing and leaving scraps in my yard. Customer service, well good luck getting in touch with them. My solar wasn't turned on for weeks after the installation. I was eventually able to contact them and asked what was going on. "Well we changed the design when we installed so it pushed back the dates, it should be approved next week" it wasn't it took 3 more weeks. When I asked why they didn't inform me they were running weeks behind schedule on my project they didn't have a response other than sorry. The app is a joke, it didn't keep up to date with the progress of the installation. Then once the installation was completed it took more than a week to identify that the system was on, and wasn't able to give valid data on the system. There are options to contact customer service, and leave a review in the app. Contacting customer service asks you to fill out the form when trying to submit (the form was filled out). The leave a review functionality doesn't do anything, you click the button and nothing happens. The part that I really hate about ION is I was originally looking at Tesla, and they told me how bad they were with customer service, that you can't get in touch with customer service, and they usually run behind schedule in installations, all things that I experienced with ION. I highly recommend not going with ION!

I regret the day I ever invited a representative of this company into my house. In Short here is why: 1.False claims of timeline for Install 2.Signed up in January and they weren't done until May. 2.5 months past schedule 3. Their installers messed up my gutters and they have yet to fix them. THey've already rescheduled once 4. The salesman that signed me up was fired during the install. No one bothered to tell me. 5. Installers left debris and tools all over my backyard 6. They said they would take care of notifying the HOA and they had pre-approval to work in the neighborhood. That was a lie. I spent 2 months getting retroactive approval 7. They screwed up the city inspection. 8. They had to come back and put additional protection on the wiring under the panels.(Requiring removal and re-installation of the panel. 9. Showed up late for install. Had to cancel all my plans for the day 10. Install ran longer than planned and they said they would be back the next day; that was a lie. I had to track down the installers after they were 4 hours late again!!! 11. They failed to compensate for lost time. 12. When I asked to speak to higher ups, they put as many obstacles in my path as possible and/or simply did not answer my repeated requests to talk to somebody. 13. This is a company masquerading as a bigger company than they really are. 14. They. botched the paperwork for the Utility company inspector and it caused additional delay of over a month and a half. They lied about having submitted the paperwork on time. I found that out when I called the inspector's office myself. Even if they rebutt this statement, please know that I have proof of all emails and text correspondence. Any person requiring further clarification before you buy, I will gladly help you steer you away from this money-grabbing company.

To start, we did not receive the product we purchased. We originally used ION solar because two of our neighbors had used ION for their solar installation and were happy with the product and process. Based on how the product looked on their homes, and also their feedback we went with ION. Our sales person also showed us the same product installed on our neighbors’ houses in his sales presentation, very specifically mentioning what we liked most about it. We really loved that it was going to look like one big panel without spaces in between the panels, and had a frame around the outside, making it look complete and really professional. However, the actual installation on our house it turns out, is individual panels on a rail system which look entirely different and sloppy. There are spaces between all the panels, and there is no frame at all. We could not believe it-as that had never been discussed as an option on our installation. We are so disappointed in how the panel system looks based on what we were sold. Secondly, none of ION’s many “teams” communicate well together. This process was painful the whole way, and we had to repeat things or tell them in the process what was next based on talking to so many people in different “teams”, many times in the same phone call. Scheduling team, utilities team, installation team, customer service team, etc. None of them discussed things in person with those actually out here working which maybe could have made a difference. So many times we got repeat phone calls to schedule something that we already had done, or was already on the calendar. We had too many instances where we had to have someone come back out for something to be fixed. At least once, we booked a 3 hr time slot for work to be done, and verified it on the phone, but the workers were given a different 3 hr time slot on their schedule, which is not fun for anyone and led to us being angry about taking time off work to let people come do work in the house, who were expecting to come at a different time. On top of that, there are some workers who don’t have the best trade knowledge working in the houses. (Most of them don’t fit in that category, but on more than one occasion it was obvious that some do). For instance we had damage inside our house (a light dropped from our kitchen ceiling) because a worker was not careful inside our attic walking, and that had to be repaired. Secondly, the first electrician who did our installation showed up two hours late when I was told he was 15 minutes out, and did not do work that passed city inspection. This delayed our system finalization by 5-6 more weeks in order to get ION to get another electrician out to fix the work, and get a repeat city inspection that passed. Every time there was a delay in work due to a problem, or something needing to be fixed, we had to reach out to the company. We were told they would reach out to us, but we figured out really quickly that there were days to weeks delays in their phone calls regarding these things. On multiple occasions, I asked to speak with a manager after many phone calls back and forth, and was never actually contacted back by one who claimed to be a manager, even when I was told I would be contacted by a manager. I cannot say enough in how disappointed I am in how this company runs their business. Unfortunately, we are now paying for their product for the next 20 years. I would definitely NOT recommend this company to use for solar to anyone I know.

We signed the contract but several weeks past before we could move forward. During that time, I received two back up quotes which came in well under what Ion quoted and also found out they were planning to use 35-40% more solar panels than necessary. The more panels they install, the higher the cost. Ion stated we needed 10+ KW system, the other two quotes advised we only needed 6 no more than 7 KW. That's a price difference of almost $20K. We live in an area were it's monopolized by a COOP and they don't roll over unused power so it's money going back to the COOP each month and not into our pocket. Now they're trying to hit us with a $1200 cancellation fee for trying to sell a much larger system than we realistically need.

If I could leave a 0 star review I would! This is the worst experience I have EVER received! They hooked up my solar wrong, attempted to burn down my new home, burned up a bunch of stuff in my home and then treated me like I was the convict trying to screw them over! My situation was escalated all the way up to the Vice President of the company, Erick R. I thought that would be the best move for us and would solve all of our issues moving forward... boy was I wrong! Erick told my husband and I he would call us the next day. That was 5 weeks ago and 2 failed inspection on our solar later. This company is absolutely terrible! The worst part is they thought we would be happy they proudly fired the entire installation crew. That broke my heart and made me sick to my stomach to think anyone would be proud of themselves for firing 4 men in a pandemic! This company obviously doesn’t have proper training for their staff and when things go wrong they place blame on the low men on the totem pole and fire them rather than addressing the real issue at hand! I would never in a million years ever recommend this company to anyone! I regret my decision to have solar installed by Ion Solar. I still have a $200 power bill each month AND $150 solar bill each month. This company doesn’t save you money, puts your family in danger, then blames you for the complaints as if your the one that is the inconvenience! Please don’t ever ever ever chose Ion Solar for your solar needs.

7 months in, and were only 70% done with the process. Made a big mess with install. Not much info when asking why it takes so long. Sent yellow ugly bulbs to me to change mine out with. Thermostat that I have to install myself, like I know how to do that. Had to get my roof replaced before install. Did it right away cuz they made it sound like it would be done quick. Did I mention it has already been 7 months, and it’s still not done? The panels were installed almost a month ago, but just sitting there, waiting for the process to finish before they can be used. They had to cut holes in my walls and ceiling, left a mess in my bed in my spare room. Best part about that, is the guy coming to repair it has been in touch, and trying to get here as soon as possible. When they threw stuff away, they put it in my can I use only for recycling. There were metal and plastic pieces left all over my yard in install, backyard and front yard. I have dogs. That’s not safe for them. I wouldn’t go with vivent, because they lied to me, but I feel like I was lied to by ion also. They said what they had to, to get the sale. I was told that since I had a flat roof, it was ideal, cuz you can set them up at any angle, easier than other roofs. Then later, I was told that flat roofs are more difficult. Make up your mind! Seriously, if you want solar panels, I couldn’t tell you who to go with. I think they all lie to make the sale. I know Ion did.

They don't communicate. The system is not running because they send the wrong drawing to the city! They said it would be running by December know they don't know. The first inspection was canceled and Ion didn't even call to let us know. Then received a text message about the drawing mistake. I have been calling them three working days in a row and no resolution or concrete information. First call I was told Garrett is going to call me that was Friday, today is Tuesday and there is no call from Garrett. Three customer service, two from the inspection department and no one from the Liason or Garrett Department and an email saying turn on your system. Ridiculous.

We had ION Solar install solar panels on our home this year and have lived to regret that decision. We have lost count of the number of problems we have had, but here are some of the highlights. During the installation, they drilled a hole through the wrong wall and failed to mention it to me. I went into the bedroom I use as an office later that day and found a hole the size of a half dollar near the ceiling. They were trying to drill into the attic to run the power cable from the panels to the switch box outside. I understand that accidents happen, but very unprofessional to leave a gaping hole with no mention of it happening and not so much as an apology. The next problem was that without knowing, they moved our clothes dryer breaker off of a 240V slot and onto a 120V slot. This allows the dryer to turn on and to rotate the drum, but prevents the heating element from turning on. We have a brand new dryer and thought we had a warranty issue. It took them 2 weeks to come out to service the dryer. The service tech said there was only 120V to it and then when we checked the panel outside the breaker was moved from the labeled slot for the dryer. We had a nice trip charge to pay to find that out. Next problem is that ever since the install, we have been getting pieces of aluminum rails blowing off our roof every time we get a wind gust. It seems as though the install folks left all of their scraps up on my roof. The biggest problem I have though, is that they failed the inspection. It sounds like a pretty minor issue though. They have been asked to put another sticker on the breaker box. I have included a photo of the stickers they already put on it. As it stands right now, there are 15 stickers on the boxes, but the city requires one more. We knew this sometime in mid September. The fix is simply putting one more sticker on and sending a photo of it to the city. ION scheduled to come out and do it on Sept 29th, they missed that appointment and rescheduled it for Oct 5th. They missed that appointment and rescheduled it for Oct 13th. They missed that appointment and rescheduled it for Oct 27th. They missed that appointment and scheduled it for Nov 19th... Yup! They missed that appointment. This time they called and said they are moving warehouses and the tech thought it would be difficult to find the sticker so he did not want to go look for it. As a result, since they have already installed the panels, I now owe money for them. My first payment for them is Dec 1st, it is now Nov 27th and no sign of the sticker. I will be paying the loan back on useless solar panels AND paying my electric bill since the panels don't work yet. How awesome is that???? If you are thinking of installing solar I would highly recommend you look elsewhere.

Unhappy Customer in Salt Lake City! We should have read the reviews on ION SOLAR BEFORE SIGNING THE CONTRACT. NOT HAPPY WITH THE OUTCOME OF THE PROJECT. Well, I have addressed my concerns with a team member, first name is Eric. He promised me that my issues would have been taken care of. They still have not been addressed. Here are my concerns. 1. We were never advised by any member of your company that the boxes on the outside of our house, would be an eye sore. 2. We were told by our salesperson that we would be getting a new breaker box, never advised that change. We were doing electrical work and decide to put off increasing the size of the box. 3. We were never advised that we would need to rip out our planter boxes to accommodate the boxes for the solar panels. The conduit was installed incorrectly per the conversation with your original electrician. So, you had to come back and fix the conduit 4.We were also promised by Tad your sales manager you would be compensating us for the labor to remove the planter boxes. I originally told Tad to give the money to your team. When I had discussed this with the original team members, they never heard about the money. So, with that I ask for our compensation of $500.00 to rip them out. There was no compensation for replacing the boxes. He also said that we would have all the conduit would be painted the same color of our bricks so that they were not an eyesore. 5. The plans that were submitted to the City of Salt Lake planning department showed the electrical was supposed to run over the top of the house. Instead your electrician ran them in the middle of our patio, which was shown on the plans 6. Your team was not properly prepared to install the panels; they did not have the right cad drawing. They forgot to install two of the panels, they had them with them. You had to come back to the house and install them a few days later. If they had the revised cad drawings, they would not have to come back. We were also advised that the electrical work that was done by the original electrician, would not have passed by the City Inspector. 7. We decide to have the roof reinforced for the solar panels; we were working with a company that you have worked with prior. So, we wanted to coordinate with them and you to ensure that everything would fall into place. Well that did not happen, you had a staff member that would not return calls. When we would return his call, we were not able to connect with him, the number that he was using would not allow incoming calls. They also sent a few emails to him and he would not respond, we were told by our salesperson that our roofers were not responding to him. So finally, I was able to connect the two companies, everything fell apart, due to the lack of communication on your part. 8. We installed a PVC roof so it was imperative that the brackets that were being installed would have flashing around the brackets. However, with your company not responding to the calls from the roofing company, you put our warranty in jeopardy. We are stilling waiting for an answer from the manufacture to verify that our warranty is valid. 9. Oh it gets better, when your team was leaving, it took them 40 minutes to get out of driveway. They cracked our rock wall, almost knocked over our shed, damage one of our bushes. All they had to do was to move two trash cans that were in front of them. 10. The only person that we have spoken with his Eric. He stated that we must sign a letter stating that we would not contact any third-party agency about our issues with your company. I did advise him that I would not sign any letter of the sorts. That was the last time we have heard from your company. We have not heard from our salesperson or your sales manager. Sent a few emails but no response from either. If this is the way that your company works, I will move forward to talking to the Utah Consumers Affairs, Department of Occupational Licensing to ensure that your electricians are licensed and the Better Business Bureau.

These guys are clueless. They messed up and didn't install the 2nd meter that is required by Excel Energy. The electrician called me on 10/6 to let me know as the inspection was scheduled for 10/8. He indicated he would work with scheduling and come out to do the additional work and cancel the inspection. On 10/7 I heard nothing from ION so I called their customer support. They had not heard anything from the electrician and thought everything was a go for the inspection. After a lengthy discussion, Customer Service indicated they would cancel the inspection and get someone out on 10/8 to add the 2nd meter. Now on 10/8, I had the county person show up along with an ION rep to do the inspection. They didn't cancel the inspection and didn't even let their own people know it was canceled or that it would fail. Still haven't heard from the person who was supposed to make the fixes. Called ION Customer Service and the first person hung up on me. The second one still on hold. Stay clear as they don't know what they are doing.

OK! I wanted to wait a full year before actually write a real review.... I got my 5.44 kW (17 panel) system installed at the end of May 2019 and biggest thing I have to say is this company is absolutely terrible!!!! Bottom line up front: The Sales Rep., Matthew W, will convince you to go solar and then lie about times, dates, and other promises he's made. When you contact the company to dispute an issue they will ignore you. Then they will randomly send someone to your home and ask if you want to go solar without realizing your house has Ion Solar equipment on the side of the house. The sales rep (Matthew W) was very persuasive and fairly good at his job. I'll get back to him later. The installation crew were ok. Aside from the fact they were smoking on the side of my house and did not properly have caution tape set up incase something were to fall off the roof and hit me or my family... They were on time and did what they came to do, mostly. I was notified of the project and the time it took along with all the permits that take time to fall through. My horror story began right from the beginning. Matthew W knocked on my door one April morning. We agreed to meet the following day as I was on the way to work and had the next day off. He messaged me with a time I had not agreed to. No biggie, just correct the time and move forward. We met with him and another associate and like I said he convinced us to go solar. One of the biggest concerns we had was the size of the system. I explained that we had just recently purchased the home the previous February and inquired as to how the company would correctly asses the properly sized system for our home. We specifically mentioned that we still needed to purchase more appliances and add additional electrical loads to the main electrical panel. He assured us that the company was efficient at gauging the proper system based on square footage, utility bills, and usage from surrounding homes. We put our trust in him and moved forward. As stated, no real problems with the installation. Although after seeing what Ion put me through I started to observe them more when i'd see them around my neighborhood and am not surprised that they don't follow simple OSHA regulations like tying off on a rope above 5ft and using a simple ladder strap for a 2 story house (I have pictures of this from when they installed on my neighbors home) I'll try not to be too hard on the installation workers because they're the ones on the roofs and doing all the leg work. To continue, Matthew notified my wife and I that the company was offering free Nest Thermostats as an additional incentive for signing up with Ion. Everything was fine and dandy when he said to send him a message to let him know when the thermostats arrive so he can send someone out to install them in the home. Well, those two Nest devices didn't arrive until almost a full month after the installation of the panels. Stuff gets delayed sometimes, what can you do. When they finally arrived Matthew said he would send out a tech do to the install. Again I have a work schedule and can only do certain times. The tech guy called me within a few days and we set up an appointment. It was my day off but I still had errands to run. we set up an appointment around midday. As I'm out doing my morning errands the tech guy calls me two hours early and says he's at my door.... ummmm what?! We had just spoken two days prior and agreed on 12pm. He understood that I was not home and said he would return around 2pm. Awesome, that works for me. Until... 245pm comes around and this guy is nowhere to be seen. Then 3pm. Ok, maybe I should call just to make sure. He tells me he got caught up on another job and that he would be here around 430pm. Cool. He arrived around the time agreed upon and proceeded with installing the Nest Thermostats. Finally! My wife and I were full filling our life long dream of owning an Ion Solar system with the added touch of two Nest Thermostats to modernize our home.... oops! One of the Nest Thermostats was defective! Ok. No worries, it happens right. Tech items are sometimes defective. He explained I needed to contact Matthew again and order a replacement. That was late July to early August. I contacted Matthew the next day and explained what had happened. He said he would order a replacement right away.... Side note: most of the conversations were happening through calls up until this point. My last call to Matthew was Aug 13th 2019 at 527pm I received no answer and left a voicemail letting him know the replacement Nest had not arrived after two weeks (the company said it should arrive in 3-5 business days). On Aug 14th 2019 at 935am Matthew text me saying he received my message and spoke with the Project Manager 'Anthony' and had now made sure it was ordered and on its way. Aug 15-26 2019.... Waiting..... On the morning of Aug 26th I contacted the customer service line to inquire with my Project Coordinator, Ms. H. She had said she couldn't see it in the system and advise me to contact Matthew. I was a bit un-eased to have to keep dealing with him so I asked if I can have the Construction Supervisors name and number. The CS's name was Mel. I expressed my concerns with Mel and he advised me to contact the Operations Manager, Charles M, but notified me he didn't have his number. So, I text Matthew asking for Mr. M's number and he replied with "No, is there something I can help you with?" ..... At this point its been six weeks since I was told the replacement device would be sent out. "Did you receive the new one yet?" Obviously not if I'm inquiring about it again. "Ok, I just spoke with the project manager in the office and he doesn't have any in stock. I'm reaching out to corporate also myself." Wait! hold on real quick. Just for a second..... Why did you tell me it was already sent out?! Matthew went on about he knows I must be upset and he wants me to be a happy customer. Yeah, sure buddy. I spoke with Charles M and he said he would personally deliver a Nest the following morning. Mr M was very professional and courteous. He actually seemed like he was concerned about my concerns. Finally, I had the replacement Thermostat. Mr M called a tech and said he would be there the following day at 11am. Hmmmm, I remember this..... 11am comes around.... 1105am... Nope, I'm not giving you anymore time. The tech was late. At this point I just want to get rid of this company. The tech apologized profusely when he arrived close to 12pm. Whatever, I'm finally getting the second device installed. Mr. M called to make sure everything went well. Thanks for the gesture. Now if only their sales reps can have the same integrity. Good, I will not have to deal with ion ever again! But wait! There's more! One random night in December 2019 I hear the slightest "OoOoOo"........ I must be dreaming because I've never heard that in my room before. for the next few weeks I was tormented at night by a single pigeon that decided my Solar system was a good place to set up shop and start a family, maybe have his own shaded area on top of my roof. Like a madman, I would go outside with a broom stick and hit the side of the roof to try to shoo them away. As the calendar year rolled over and the winds started to pick up and I would hear the pigeon and small rattling. I figured it was maybe a loose vent that the wind knocked. In the daylight hours I would like to stand on my balcony and admire my investment and feel good about doing my part to minimize my carbon footprint. Until! one day I'm casually looking at my roof and realize two of the retaining clamps are loose! Wow! That's what the rattling is! Oh no! That means I have to call the company again! As most surely do, when you find something wrong, you look for more. I surely did. After further inspection I noticed that some of the wires from under the Solar panels were touching the roof! In my City, during the summer months, it can reach an average of 107 degrees fahrenheit. Now I'm no expert on the effects on rubber incased copper wire and the possible damage caused from thermal radiation but I know that can't be good. On Jan 21 2020 I contacted Mr M again. We ended on decent terms so maybe he would help me again. WRONG! I text him my three concerns (mentioned above) and did not get a call back, no text, no email, nothing. Ok. Understood. A week later I received a call from the service department asking about my concerns. I was sent out a quote for pigeon guards that were $800. "But why not offer them at the initial disclosure agreement?" She said it was optional but I was never told about it. She said She would send a team out to tighten the clamps and check the wires. No one ever came. No one ever called. As mentioned, when I signed up for Ion I had more plans for the home. I purchased a deep freezer for the garage and added a 40A outlet to charge my electric vehicle. Well... I received my NV Energy bill and guess what. I'm consuming more electricity than my panels are producing..... My upstairs neighbors that my family jokingly calls my best friends have pooped all over my roof and panels. Im convinced the rattling of the panels gives them comfort on a windy night. It is now early June and I swear I can just feel those wires baking on my tile roof...... Last month, on May 9th 2020, a gentleman by the name of Luis rang my doorbell. It was fairly early so I thought it may be a friend or neighbor, until I seen his Ion Solar shirt! He asked if I was interested in going Solar! He seemed like a nice kid and I didn't want to give him a hard time. I explained to him this story and he apologized. Not your fault buddy. He took my name and info and let me know someone would be in touch soon..... No one ever reached out to me. Do yourself a favor and find a different company. I understand this could be an isolated incident, but it was bad enough to never recommend them to anyone. If anyone cares to reach out for validity of my story I have a detailed log and screens shots/ pictures I've taken. Have a good day and thanks for reading. -M. Ceballos

ION had pretty good reviews online and they seemed like the best company to install solar on my house. They touted that they don't use subcontractors so they control the entire process of the solar system from install to turn on and that they are a “premium installer”, so I signed the contract with them. As part of the contract, there were some incentives that ION was going to give me. ION was going to send me $500 and a Nest thermostat. The $500 was to be sent as soon as the system had the permission to operate. It turns out ION didn't save time or money for anyone on this project. ION was completely unprofessional throughout my entire solar process. -Oct. 23 signed paperwork for system. Was told it would be around 60 days. -Initial inspection of system and inspector called to confirm time and then never showed. Told managers he did job when he didn’t. -Dec. 23. Panels installed and informed it would be a few weeks before I could turn on system. -Jan. 2 spoke with project manager after holiday break and was informed I would need to get my main service panel “upgraded”. When speaking with installers on Dec. 23, they never mentioned anything about this and it seems to be just made up by ION. I asked my project manager pointedly 3 times why it was necessary and he didn’t answer my question for 2 weeks. Project manager said ION would cover the cost and we should still have the system running by end of January. This so-called “upgrade” was unnecessary. I have consulted with a Master Electrician about this “upgrade” and he agreed. -ION did no work for a full month other than submit a permit to do this job. -Feb. 13 ION had approval for permit and would install panel in 2 weeks after I was already waiting for a month. I complained to get job done sooner since they did not plan accordingly, as they knew this was coming. -Feb. 20 My first loan payment is due for the system. -Feb. 21 ION comes to install the new main service panel. Electrician says it will take 5 hours at a maximum. Electrician starts to dismantle old panel and start work without even having a new panel. Turns out that it was 9 hours of no power. I had a 4 month old child in my house in the middle of winter with no electricity. Even after the 9 hours, ION did not have all the equipment and installed old breakers and did not hook in the solar system. -March 5 ION sends a worker to finish the electrical work. My father was at the house and is a Master Electrician in the state of Colorado and asked the so-called “electrician” some questions. The worker pulled the meter out of the meter base, changed the main breaker from a 200 amp back to a 150 amp, which I originally had with my old panel, pulled wires to the solar panel connection, and installed a breaker. He did not have any electrical license. Under the National Electric Code, it is illegal for someone without a license to do this work unless someone with a license is on site. -March 6 City comes out to inspect the system and gives the go ahead to get the utility company to do the net meter. -March 11 Utility company installs net meter and system is turned on. -April 7 I remembered that I never received my $500 incentive check contacted ION. This is almost a month after the system had the permission to operate. -April 8 I was told the $500 incentive check was put in the mail. If you read it all, you can see that it has been total ineptitude and unprofessional from the beginning. It took them 3 and a half months to get my system turned on after it was installed. From what I can tell, ION just gets the money from the lender and then takes their sweet time doing anything after that. They don't seem to care about finishing their work or their customers unless you prod them relentlessly. I also believe that if I had not remembered and contacted ION about my incentive check that I would have never received it. To be fair, I haven’t received it yet and was just told it was sent.

I was holding back on the review because I Love my sales person. But Ion Solar has this review coming. We signed since October 2019. It is now almost the mid January of 2020. Our solar system is final install but not running because they failed inspection! But the problem didn’t start there. It took me forever for someone to reach out to us. I have reach out many time to my project manager. Let start with the house inspection. Their representatives who came into our home and had to crawl into our attic had to go through my kids closet. I’m not going to go into detail but the closet was left in a messed. Then after the inspection 2 weeks goes by nothing! I am reaching out via email. Signed since October. I feel like I have to be the one pushing them to put solar on my panel. If I did not love my sales rep who did a great job at his job. I would totally stop the project. Finally installation. It was fast 1 day everything done. Team was nice Friendly. Not problem. Failed inspection! Now I’m reaching out to them for a date and still nothing! No date nothing! We were promised some inventive light energy light bulbs whatever! They sent us the wrong light bulb. Ion solar can’t do anything right and I am highly u satisfied with how they handle our transaction after the contract signing. I have been emailing them for month about them having my phone number wrong on my profile and is still wrong even today, yes I checked. Now we have over $30000.00 of solar panel on our house that isn’t running, a payment that is due in March on a product we never used.

Worst company ever. Terrible about getting back with people. I paid cash and they still funded my loan after telling me TWICE that the loan was canceled. Took days to fix. Refused to return my calls. Multiple people told me they wouldn't ignore me and then did ignore me. The original install crew lied to me about the job so I would cancel the job so they could have the day off. I asked to return the solar for a refund before using it, they refused. I emailed a list of my complaints, never heard back. Also, they have a lot of false positive reviews because they start asking for you to review them the day you sign up. Do not trust them. Specifically do not trust Tyler (young salesman) or Carter G (VP). Carter will lie to you and ignore you. Don't go with Ion. Go elsewhere. Clayton was the only one who didn't ignore me, but by the time he had to deal with me I was so angry I'm sure he wanted to ignore me.

Installation was a nightmare. Existing circuit breakers were re-wired incorrectly and took multiple service visits to resolve. Loose wire nuts in roof junction box led to multiple more service visits before getting identified and corrected, costing weeks worth of energy. Roof junction box covers only secured with half of the designed screws. No sense of urgency in scheduling repairs when problems were identified. Lots of trash/debris left behind on installation day, including roofing nails in the driveway. Installers unaware of promised critter guard, resulting in yet another service call. Solar panels had come off of someone else's roof - all were scratched to some degree. Panels were packed in truck with zero padding or protection. Most communication with project manager had to be initiated by me instead of them, and response time was often not prompt. Communication from service technicians was typically non-existent. Design placed panel in shadow of stovepipe resulting in only 30% of potential power generation ability.

We appreciate you reaching out to us, James. We are sorry this was your experience. We can assure you we don't use previously used panels on installations. Often times panels will get minor scratches on them from transportation, however, we appreciate your feedback and will be sure to pass your remarks onto our Field Operations Manager. Again, thank you for letting us know about these issues so we can work to resolve your concerns!

The Ion sales staff promised many thing that were false. I bought the solar panels for 30K under the promise that it would increase the value of my home and save me money. Neither has come true, in fact, I have a current offer on my home that would have sold a week ago if I wouldn't have bought the solar panels. Basically, if you put them on your house, consider them a gift to your next buyers because you will not see ANY return on it. 30K is a hard "housewarming gift" to swallow when you are trying to break even on a home sale. Ion's staff could care less. They were paid and don't care that I was lied to. I have the actual sheet with the false accusations on it. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB also. Don't buy from them unless you KNOW you will not be reselling your home, ever.

This company is taking forever to install my solar system. They left cosmetic defects on my house, interior as well as exterior during install. I had to tell them to fix it and then they said they would and set up time and no one came. I took off work to wait and they told me it would happen within the next 10 days whatever that means. They left no contact for the company coming. Also my solar system isn’t even turned on but I’m being charged already by the financing company who I financed through. Ion says they will reimburse me for any bills. We shall see if they follow through. It’s a giant headache though. Better to just not go solar at this point.

The Good: Top end technology, comprehensive warranty, attractive purchase model -- pricing, interest rate, and ownership rather than lease -- engaging and responsive representative. The Bad: 1. Misleading system offering: claim of 84% ION solar generated power and 16% Utility generated power was factually incorrect. It was more like 48% and 52% based on actual usage. Basically, ION proposed a solar system that would provide X amount of energy annually (first year in the documents), and claimed that would provide 84% of the annual energy. However, compared that energy generation value to actual annual usage, and the system would provide only 48%. When monetized, the difference between Utility only and the Solar/Utility combination was extreme making the latter a financially disastrous proposition. 2. No amortization table or schedule in the loan proposal -- a sixteen month interest payment only teaser that was not transparently disclosed in the documentation material. 3. Misleading and inaccurate cost and usage numbers in the documentation material. Basically, ION made up a monthly energy cost as well as the Utility's kW/h rate, and then compared this to a ION plan that was based on kW energy provision. Aside from inaccurate cost values, it was not a transparent apples to apples comparison. 4. Sales pressure not from the visiting market representative but from the on telephone "closer" with the explicit statement that withdrawing from the agreement after the mandated three day "cooling off" period, but before the actual engineering site assessment would result in a $1,200 cost. This was akin to buying a pig in a poke approach to sales and closing; no actual engineering specific system, no loan and payment contract (you do far better buying a used car), and no clarity on effect on overall property ownership (i.e., how is the balance of the loan handled in the event the property is sold prior to full payment on the system?). Bottom Line: There is a big disconnect between the quality of the technology and system provision and the financials which is a nice way of saying that the people on the ground are honest, competent and professional, and the management and back-office staff are duplicitous, incompetent, and unprofessional. Interestingly, all it takes is an Excel spreadsheet and about an hour or so of analyzing the documentation that was provided to reveal this. Other users and reviewers who have complained about ION post-system installation didn't do their due diligence. On the other hand, one would want to expect more integrity out of the company. Sadly, that is not the world we live in. With regret, I cancelled the project within the three day window after doing my analysis. I really like the technology but the numbers and the promises were inconsistent with the real world.

I'm so disappointed and frustrated at Ion. Before I signed any documentation, I specified that I needed my roof redone as well (because my insurance needs it done). Waqas said that would be fine and we would be able to group the solar and roof all together. I specifically asked if I would be required to pay any amount. I was reassured many times that I wouldn't be required to pay. Waqas specifically said "even if you had any money down I wouldn't take it". I felt good with my decision to move forward with this. From that point forward things started going wrong. I was being pressured to get other people I know to sign up, I specifically stated that I wanted to wait to see how my experience went (I have text messages of the amount of pressure). I downloaded their app to find the progress of the account, 1 whole month has past (I started this in January and am still waiting for things to happen) without any word from Ion. I called and text Waqas trying to get an update. I finally called into the main line to be told that nothing was happening. After the month I was given Jason as my project manager. I explained what the Waqas told me would happen and how things would work. Jason came back to me after becoming familiar with my account and stated that in order to do my roof and the solar I would have to pay $4,000 out of pocket. I explained that isn't what I was told and that I don't have that money right now (I explained all that to Waqas). I'm now going on 3 months with no progress and I just got notified that they will do a partial re-roof and the solar. I don't know what else I was told is a lie or going to come out different then explained to me. I'm very frustrated and have NO faith in this company or it's words.

We are not getting solar! #IonSolar made mistakes every step of the way. The straw that broke the camels back: We were promised a 9.28 KW system and they plans came back with a 5.95 KW system at the same price. That is 32% less power generated. No explanation as to why the experts at the company make such a gross error. Also, the site inspector (the guy who measures the roof) measured the wrong part of the roof (the north side...) and then customer service told me incorrectly that their plans are not signed by licensed electricians. The only good thing this company is good for is apologizing for mistakes.

I would not use this company if I was you! I did my research on ION Solar when we were first approached by them, and felt that they would be a good company to proceed with. I was very wrong. We have had issues from installation: - We live in a new build. Instead of waiting a year to get an accurate idea of what our energy usage is, they came to our neighborhood after 4 months. They said that they could accurately give an estimate of what our usage is because they can check average usage of other houses similar to ours with the utilities company. We moved in to our house late October, so we had not used AC yet. We were assured that this would be accounted for in our quote. It was not, so our quote was horribly off the minute we started using AC. - They sent a new electrician out to our house to set up the panels. He used up our entire breaker box instead of installing a new one (so if we ever need to add anything, we have to install our own box), and he forgot to turn all of the power back on when finished, costing us hundreds in frozen food because the breaker he forgot to turn back on was for our freezer. - Our $500 check that we got for covering the first year of payments took months to get to us when we were promised that it would be sent as soon as the system was up and running. - Our system was turning off every day during the summer from 11am-7pm. ION Solar didn't notice that there was an issue until I called them because our system wasn't producing any solar energy. It took them three weeks to send someone out to look at it. When I asked them to reimburse us for part of the bills that we received during the time our system was unknowingly turning off each day, I was told they would not reimburse because “they cannot guarantee the service of the solar panels”. - Our system still is not generating the power we were promised. In our initial quote, our sales rep, Brian N. promised that our solar panels would produce 98% of the energy we used. They don’t even come close to that. When I spoke with the regional manager, he said that our sales rep shouldn’t have quoted so high and that solar panels rarely produce that high of a percentage. Our roof is pretty maxed out and only has room for one more panel, so the likelihood of us coming close to the % of solar usage that we were quoted is pretty slim in my opinion. - When my husband went up to the roof to put on Christmas lights (and take down the red tape that ION solar had left after installation) he noticed that there was nothing that looked like a critter guard on our solar panels. This was something he had discussed with the sales rep and was told would be installed. We are a young family, and are trying our hardest to make the best financial decisions right now, to help set us up for a better future. Although we liked the environmentally friendly aspect of solar panels – this was largely a financial decision. Based on the quote that we were provided, it would have saved us money to switch to solar panels and have a (as quoted) $20-$30 utility bill and then the bill for the solar panels. However since our system does not adequately fit our house usage in the way we were promised when we signed up, we are still paying a decent utility bill on top of the monthly payment for the solar panels. We are not planning on this being our forever home, so we most likely won’t be here after we have the solar panels paid off. At this rate, it is going to cost us more annually to have the solar panels then it would to have just paid our utility bill. We honestly probably would have held off to purchase the solar panels until later if we had been given some accurate quotes on what it would have cost us each month. Other neighbors agree that they would not have purchased the solar panels from ION Solar if they knew that the savings would not be what we are quoted, as they all are having issues with their solar panels producing what we were told they would produce. I really like to give people/companies the benefit of the doubt. I have tried to be patient and logical while working through our issues with ION Solar, but after 8 months of dealing with issue after issue, it is very hard to remain optimistic about the situation. I am very hopeful that the solar panels will build up enough stored power in the winter/spring to offset our usage and bring us closer to what our quote was, but am very doubtful that that will happen based on the info that I have so far. I know that quotes can be off, but when there are at least five families that I know of that have the same issue we are experiencing, that is more than a bad quote, that is a deceptive marketing strategy. If ION Solar is not checking the quotes that their sales reps are providing to make sure that they are reasonable, then they should be responsible for trying to make it up somehow to those of us who signed up under false pretenses.

Ion solar is the worst! The salesman was awesome and so did the product I was so ready and excited to go solar but afterwards I had a few questions about what would happen if I moved so I put it on hold. Unfortunately as a construction worker my phone broke during the week so went without a phone for 4 days when I finally got the new phone I turned it on and I was blown up with voicemails and harassing text messages from Erik R about fines and calling me names and this guy is supposed to be the “VP” for their resolutions center. That made me realize this company is a joke and desperate if their “VP” acts like that... WARNING do not deal with this company!!!

I was very excited about ion solar. Until they did our house terribly. We had wires sticking out and a partial bird guard around our stuff. The only thing that looks good is the pipe on the side of the house that is painted the same color as our house. When they installed the boxes on the side of the house it was also not level and looked terrible. It failed inspection by the city too. Not only that they dont call you to check up on you, they text you. When they text you they take forever to respond. They do not communicate, so we still do not have all of our stuff promised to us. Not satisfied at all with this company.

Don't use ION solar, find another company. We had issues with them causing damage to our home, and they are now ignoring our emails and attempts to have them complete the repair work for the damage they caused (they stepped off the joist in the attic and caused damage to the cieling in our living room). Additionally, the electrician they sent was a new hire, who had not received sufficient training, and came to complete the job without any senior technician to supervise. After over 12 hrs in our home he left with the electrical being about half complete. Although they knew the electrical was not complete, they allowed the state inspection, and then when the incompetent inspector gave them the "pass", they said, oh well, at least we have the passed inspection. We have video from our Ring doorbell of the ION guy talking about the "passed" inspection, even though the electrical hadn't been completed.
