The Good

  • High Quality Products and Equipment
  • Excellent Warranties
  • Responsive Website and Mobile App

High Quality Products and Equipment

Green Home Systems uses high quality solar energy equipment in each of its projects. The company utilizes panels from SolarWorld and REC, which are both respected brands. Green Home Systems uses inverters from SolarEdge, which have a smart functionality and comply with UL 1741 SA.

Excellent Warranties

Green Home Systems offers some of the best warranties in the industry. The company provides its customers with a 25-year equipment warranty, which covers the panels and inverter, as well as a 25-year workmanship warranty, which covers labor. Those who go solar with Green Home Systems can be confident that they will be covered if something goes wrong with their system in the first 25 years.

Responsive Website and Mobile App

The Green Home Systems website includes a lot of helpful information, as well as a LiveChat feature that allows for live conversation with a company representative. Additionally, the company offers a mobile app so that customers can monitor their solar system from anywhere in the world. This application can be run on a mobile phone, tablet, or computer. The best part is that the app comes with Green Home Systems' standard package, so customers do not have to pay anything extra for it.

The Bad

  • Limited Payments Options

Limited Payment Options

When it comes to paying for a solar system, Green Home Systems only offers two options: purchasing outright or financing with a loan. While each of these payment options come with their own set of advantages, signing into a lease or a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a better fit for some consumers, so it would be helpful if Green Home Systems offered leases and PPAs.

gavel

The Bottom Line

With over 30 years of experience, Green Home Systems is a veteran in the solar industry. The company offers lengthy warranties, high quality equipment, and a nifty mobile monitoring app, but does not offer leases or PPAs. If you are interested in a loan or an outright purchase, Green Home Systems may be a good fit for you. However, if you'd prefer a lease or a PPA, you'll have better luck with a different solar company.

We had been thinking about solar for some time. The power outages in Texas in 2021 convinced us it was time, both to be protected from power cuts and because the repairs and improvements to the generating and grid infrastructure were sure to drive power prices up. I did some online research and contacted Green Home Systems to get more information regarding equipment sourcing and supply as well as long term support and maintenance. I felt confident that buying from Green Home was the right decision as they were able to assure me that everything necessary to keep a system operational for 20 years had been considered and product support would continue to be available during the expected product lifetime. The sales team was able to explain the various options in terms of power production and battery backup and how they would impact cost. We worked with the design team to configure a system that would provide power for my home 24/7 during extended outages. The planning stage was the most time consuming as we had to wait for local (city, state, power company) approval of the installation. Once all the permits were in place Green Home was able to procure the equipment within a couple of weeks and a very knowledgeable installation team had the system installed and operational in one day. I'm a bit of a techie and was very interested in learning as much as possible about the nuts and bolts of the system during installation and the installers were very willing to give explanations for all my operational questions. We then had to wait for a week or so for power company and city sign off (permission to operate) before we could throw the switch and turn everything on. We have had a couple of "learning moments" when power was lost and batteries/panels did not take over as expected, but Green Home has been responsive in answering questions and explaining what has occurred and what to do next time to stop the problem occurring again. We live in a new neighborhood and there have been several outages in the last year due to the power company connecting new equipment or construction workers breaking something, apart from the first couple of times everything has worked perfectly, keeping the power on and everything working (other than having to reset clocks on the stove and microwave). We've been operational now for 9 months and the system had performed very well. During a daytime power outage the panels produce enough power to run the home and charge the batteries, if the power is out after dark the batteries provide power overnight. During normal daytime operation the panels produce enough power to run the house and export sufficient KWH's to the power company to "pay back" the power we consume from the grid at night. My monthly power bill runs $7-10 which is basically the minimum charge to power company makes to have the house connected to the grid, and our payment fo the solar installation is already less than we would be paying the power company at today's rates so overall we are now saving money as well as being protected from power loss. Our advice to anyone thinking of going solar is to have a firm set of expectations for what Solar is going to do for you, make sure your providers design team understands them, and they create a system design that will meet those goals. We couldn't be happier with our system and would definitely recommend Green Home Systems to anyone considering going solar.

I am glad to finally get my solar panels installed, I haven’t had them installed long enough to see how it improves my electric bill. It seemed like the process would go smoothly and then not so much. The installers did d professional work and kept me informed during installation. Sometimes the communication between Green Home Systems, Ameren Illinois, and me was a little strained.

Marty Maskiewicz Greensburg, PA

Martin M. Pittsburgh, PA 3/15/2023 First of all, I do not believe in writing reviews that do not tell the entire story. That is why I have waited 2 years to write a review of Green Solar Technologies (now Green Home Systems). On January 27, 2021 I signed a contract with Green Solar Technologies to have 35 LG 340 watt solar panels and 2 Solaredge inverters installed on my house. Lesson number 1, don't expect a quick installation. An engineer came out to the house to ensure the roof was good enough to support the panels and the shingles were in good shape so that the panels would not need to be removed in just a couple of years to re-shingle the house. Then the approval process begins. Local code approval must be obtained and the electric company needs to approve the plan. Lesson number 2, Green Solar subcontracts the work. If Green Solar doesn't have an electrician immediately available, they must contract with one. This took several weeks and on May 12th the supplies were delivered and installation was scheduled for May 18th. On the night of May 17th the electrician's wife decided to go into labor 3 weeks early, so installation was delayed a few more days. Lesson number 3, the electric company runs on their own schedule and they have no intention of rushing things. Another 2 weeks went by before the power company came out to look at the installation and install the net meter. You cannot turn the system on until they give final approval. Lesson 4, don't expect everything to work the first time. 3 of the panel optimizers were bad and needed to be replaced. We found this out on June 17th. Only 32 out of 35 panels were producing electricity. After numerous delays, the 3 replacement optimizers arriver on July 29th ,2021 and on August 9th the electrician installed them. Lesson 5, I have West Penn Power as my electric provider. In Pennsylvania, you can select a different company for power generation but must stay with West Penn Power for distribution. If you do that, West Penn Power will pay you a lower price for the electricity you send to the grid. I needed to go back to West Penn Power for both generation and distribution before they paid me the same amount of money per kilowatt I sent to the grid as I paid when I drew power from the grid. 2022 was the first full year that the system produced power. On average, the system produces 1,100 KW per month (more in the summer, less in the winter). The panels and inverters that Green Solar uses are top notch and the 25 year guarantee is one of the best in the business. When one of the optimizers went out last year, they notified me and had an electrician come out to replace it. The Solaredge app is fantastic. I can see what my panels are producing in real time and the app keeps track of production history. In Pennsylvania (and some other states), we can sell our Solar Renewable energy credits (1 credit equals 1 megawatt of generation). I use SRECTRADE to sell my credits. It took a little while to set up the account, but it is well worth it. Bottom line, I am very pleased with the system Green Solar installed. Don't expect a quick installation though, since a lot of the delays are not Green Solar's fault. It would be nice if they had more electricians in the installation area to prevent delays, if Green Solar fixes this issue, I would give them 5 stars.

Let me just say, I'm very pleased with the end product and production. We went through 5-7 different companies for bids & trying to make sense of "SOLAR". Green Home Systems was the only company I felt comfortable doing business with. Everything from the beginning was straight forward and informative. From Sales, Planning, Permitting, Financing and installation, everything went very smooth. Greg, the project manager was very responsive and kept us informed of every step we were going to go through and what to expect. The installation team was VERY thorough and made sure that everything was sealed, straight, looked and PERFORMED as it should. I felt that they performed very well to the point that I referred my sister to them. Thank you to everyone at GHS (Nestor, Greg, Peter & Jose) for doing a job well done.

Green Home Systems followed through as they said they would every step of the way. They kept me informed on what to expect and I am very pleased with the installation. The installer was Alec from nearby Ukiah. He cleaned up after each day and when he was done, sent the photos. All is professionally installed and after weathering some big storms, I am pleased it’s solid, looks and works great saving us money. Other companies string you along for months without action. If you want Solar, Green Home Systems will get it done with quality workmanship and materials in weeks, not months! I highly recommend them.

We contracted GHS to install 28 LG Solar panels with Enphase Microinverters on our home in Pasadena California. The process was simple and easy with GHS even providing a roofing contractor to replace our roof as part of the install process. The system has been robust and more than covers our electricity use despite us having an electric range, an electric ceramics kiln and a four ton AC unit. The team at GHS were very responsive and followed up with us during the entire process and even after the system was turned on. After nearly nine months of being a rooftop solar customer we couldn't be happier with the product and GHS as our contractors.

Green Home Systems was pretty easy to work with. We had issues with the first project manager assigned to us for not communicating, and they assigned us another project manager that seemed much better at communicating. We had tons of delays due to our electric company absolutely dragging their feet and the whole project took 6 months, but between my husband and I, the installers, and our Green Home Systems project manager harping on the electric company almost daily, we eventually got the project done the day before our loan was set to expire.

Green Home Systems was easy to work with and prompt in getting us set up with grid-connected solar. They dispatched two men from a regional contractor who completed our install over 3 days; within a month we were getting & co-generating power from our panels. One disappointment was that we were promised a rebate payment which we never received.

I am so disappointed in the service I have received from Green Home Systems. Jeri promised me the world during the sales call--an EV charging system, professional installation no matter how remote I lived, a system that would save me money, and a $1000 rebate if I signed up today. The project manager, Miguel, had a hard time finding an installer in my area--he spent about 2 months trying to find someone. The first one cancelled on the day he was scheduled to come, then Miguel offered to pay my partner (an electrician) and me to do the pre-installation site visit for them so the project could begin. He promised to pay me what it would cost to have an installer come to our remote town to do the visit. We are a couple of hours drive from any sizable town. We sent photos and I drew up a detailed plan of my roof with measurements and sunrise and sunset locations. Of course, I never saw the money I was promised. It was supposed to come through PayPal, but then I was told it would be given as a discount on my loan. Neither has happened and this was promised over 5 months ago. Finally an installer showed up, but obviously did not have a lot of experience installing solar panels. He installed mine in the shade. Before that he recommended I put them on a part of my roof that doesn't get sunlight until about 10:30 or 11 am. He had to come back 4 times, the last time was because the job did not pass inspection--he did not use an adequate number of brackets, did not have things labeled properly, and mounted the inverter crooked on my house with insufficient support--it actually fell off the house when the inspector touched it. My partner ended up finishing up so that we could get the permit, because even after the 4th visit, we still did not pass inspection. The installer also put a hole in my new metal roof when the corner of one of the panels landed on it. He patched it with unmatching metal that was screwed on crooked. After almost 2 months they had an insurance company call me to get an estimate going so I can get reimbursed for a more professional repair, but I had to fight for that. Then it was discovered they gave us the wrong antenna--we don't have cell service here and they gave us an inverter that requires cell service. I've been waiting for someone to install the proper antenna for almost 2 months. I'm also still waiting for the permit from the power company--I asked Miguel to get started on that because I'd heard it takes a long time, but that was 6 weeks ago and still no power to the system. My attempts at communication with the company are usually met with no response. Customer service is terrible! I never got the EV charger Jeri promised, and now Jeri, the sales person, says she made a mistake and it should not have been on the offer she sent me. She offered to sell me one for $1500 (said it was worth $2500), but I checked online and the most expensive one I could find sold for $900. She also made a mistake on the loan documents she amended to provide me with 12 panels instead of 10--I only got 10 panels, which is unlikely to meet my electrical needs. She offered to give me the other 2 panels for just $2000 more, but they sell online for less than $400 a piece. I never did get my $1000 rebate. Now the loan company they work with wants to start my payments, even though Jeri promised that my payments would not start until 60 days after installation. So now I either pay my electric bill on top of the solar loan, or they threaten to affect my credit score. This experience has been a huge disappointment from the beginning! After the installation process began, I started getting phone calls from the loan company trying to persuade me into a higher interest loan and pressuring me to take more money out (with higher payments and interest) so I could experience the peace of having more money in the bank. One loan officer actually hung up on me when I insisted I was not interested. I got the sense that Green Home Systems is more about loaning money than professional installation of high quality solar panels.

Seven months ago Green Solar Technology installed a 24-panel set-up for our home, rental unit and art studios. They analyzed last year's electric usage and the layout of our 9.5 acre rural property and recommended a 20-panel installation with an additional 4 panels to account for the anticipated loss of electricity due to the placement 350 ft. below our house in a meadow away from the redwood trees shading our house roof. The installation took only 1-1/2 weeks and for 7 months we have been enjoying negative balance bills from our distribution company, Pacific, Gas and Electric. The installation crew was professional and expedient, the sales people attentive and informative and the financial terms attractive. I would recommend Green Solar Technologies to anyone looking to solarize their home or business.

We feel the company handled the issue with the utmost professionalism and are very pleased by their integrity in this matter. Mistakes happen and no one is perfect. I had my system installed 2 years ago, Oct 2015. The system generates exactly the amount of energy I need on a yearly basis. A little too much generated in the winter vs amount of electricity we use, not quite enough in the summer due to A/C usage. So their calculations were spot on for number of panels needed. My average electric bill was $120-150, now it's $4 to $10, which are surcharges from Edison. Installation by Green Solar was very professional, all worked perfectly first time with no problems since. I chose Green Solar because of 1) Price was best of 4 quotes, 2) They use world proven 25 yr warranteed panels with distributed Micro-inverters rather than one large inverter. I'm very happy with my choice of companies.

Materials scheduled and delivered on time and stored appropriately. Has the most professional installation staff (Leggett Electrical). Clearly this was not their first rodeo. They came on site, knew their tasks, review the job with staff, clarified answers to any questions staff had; . ensured safety at all times Engineer kept the staff on task ensuring timely completion. very courteous and informative. Engineer on site verified task completion. Coordination between Leggett Electrical and Salt River Project for the entire project was outstanding and timely. Both parties kept me informed and involved. I purchased the system Green Solar Technologies played a key role in the financing and upper level tasks associated with the purchase and installation. Green Solar Technologies is taking a lead role in resolving noise observed by occupants. I was impressed with the monitoring of the system to ensure consistent service and the promise to respond to any interruption. I like the guarantee to be there when I need them. Customer Service has ben very positive. I just retired from a career AT a nuclear power plant. Customer Service is keeps a nuclear power plant in business. I'm a subcontractor for Green Home Systems that has done many installations for them over the past couple of years. Starting out, the company was great to work with but as we continued to install for them, Green Home has become harder and harder to get paid for the services I complete. Suppose to be 30 days net, but is now 90 to 120 days with a lot of promises and "the check is in the mail" story. I terminated our agreement due to non payment of services and I am placing mechanics liens on the homeowners properties until I am paid in full for my services. This is just to let any potential customers of any solar company know of what can happen when they sign up. Always check the company out of any bad reviews and always shop around when looking at any purchase. Don't go with the first quote you get. Do your research.

Steve L. has been helpful as well, other than he didn't send the link we needed to be able to monitor our system. The construction crew that came were great! They went to work as soon as they got here. We were not told ahead of time that they were coming but luckily we were here. They did a great job and cleaned up after they were done. We did have to call them as they did not leave papers for the state inspector but he was able to make a call and get the information he needed. We just made our first payment and have not seen any significant change in our electric bill but we are just getting started so we are very anxious to see what that difference will be.

Everyone I have been involved with during my purchase and installation of my solar panels has been wonderful. They have all been focused on making my experience as positive as possible. My installers, Chris and David worked in weather that was not friendly to us and stayed after dark to get my panels installed as quickly as possible. I highly recommend this company when you get ready for your solar experience.

I received bids from several companies with good Yelp ratings and the reason I went with Green Solar Tech is b/c their warranty against roof leakage was longer than anyone else's and they matched the lowest bid I received from another reputable company. They were always easy to get in contact with and any issues that arose were dealt with in a prompt and professional manner. I wound up using them to also make my house more energy efficient (new windows, insulation, radiant barrier) and got a discount for doing it all at once. I'm very happy and would recommend them to anyone.

Green Solar Technologies did a great job for me. They installed on a professional and timely Mamet and have followed up with me. When they discovered Oncor had not done their part to insure I got credit for the energy produced they got in straighten out very quickly and then reviewed my electric bills and and sent me a check for the energy i hasn’t been credited for. Excellent service.

Green Solar Texhnologoes has been the best from start to finish. They discovered Oncor/TXU wasn’t properly crediting me for the power I produced and immediately set out to get it corrected. Then they reviewed a full years worth of electrode bills and Hreen Solar issued me a check for the energy TXU should have credited me for. That’s what I call service.

Imagine an 0.87 cent electric bill... welcome to Green Solar Technologies... that is correct my electric bill last month was 87 cent. I now own a 5 kilowatt solar system. I also just received a $11,000.00 federal tax rebate to help pay for the system. The contract, installation and service are Excellent... Solar is a no brainer... install and save.

Green Solar worked with from day one to make sure our project was done correctly. Their employees are top notch, communicating throughput out the process and answering all our questions. The local subcontractor was also top notch. The work ethic of their employees is hard to find now days. They worked until the project was finished and left the job site neat and clean. Our system is running smoothly, producing all of our required electricity.

Green Solar is a terrible company to work with! They do NOT return phone calls and WON’T honor their warranty! After a year and a half of trying to get our system fully functioning, and to get them to respond to our issue , we hired an outside company to fix our system. Turns out it wasn’t properly installed - not even grounded {We’re grateful we didn’t have a fire}! We paid nearly $6,000.00 out of pocket to get the system functioning and SAFE! They refuse to give us the money we paid to get it safe and functioning, want us to sign papers saying we’ll never give them a negative review and expect us to continue to pay for a warranty they won’t honor. Don’t do business with Green Solar/Green Home!

Filled out a form online and they called before I even left their webpage. It was installed in one day and I haven't had an electric bill since December 2021.

Green Solar gave us quick options and were very thorough with their quotes and procedures. Installation was quick and looked great. We have been getting excellent savings now on our electricity bill. We have had a couple issues with our main panel and they were quick to provide phone and/or in person support. Highly Recommended!
