The Good

  • Certifications and Credentials
  • Hybrid PV Systems

Certifications and Credentials

BPVS isn’t shy about disclosing which certifications and credentials its company and employees have — and it shouldn’t be. After hundreds of hours of research, we have found that companies that take the time to get certified and adequately train their employees generally have happier customers.

BPVS is a Northeast Sustainable Energy Association member, the American Solar Energy Society of Massachusetts Solar, and the 350 Berkshire Node Massachusetts Business Association.

All staff members are OSHA certified, and the company has NABCEP certified PV installers.

Hybrid PV Systems

According to the companies website, BVPS has serviced Solar PV systems with batteries — commonly referred to as Solar and Storage or Hybrid PV systems.

The solar batteries work like any other rechargeable battery except that they are recharged by the sun. These Hybrid PV systems are an excellent resource for foggy, cloudy, rainy days or power outages because they draw from the power stored in the batteries (and not from the grid).

Again, the Hybrid PV systems are great for homeowners who live in an area that doesn’t receive sunshine 24/7 as they will provide a bit of a cushion should the power go out. Additionally, solar and storage systems are nearly silent and will significantly reduce the noise pollution in your neighborhood.

The Bad

  • Unclear Service Area

Unclear Service Area

BPVS is a local solar company and, as such, only operates in the state of Massachusetts. However, the company’s exact service area is unclear, and consumers may need to directly contact the company for more information.

The website states that it installs its projects in the region surrounding the Berkshires of Massachusetts — the Berkshires consist of Lenox, Stockbridge, Lee, North Adams and Williamstown, Great Barrington, and Pittsfield. Whether BPVS takes on homeowners from other cities is unclear.

The Bottom Line

Homeowners interested in installing a solar system and living in the Berkshires of Massachusetts should look into BPVS. The company has been around since 1985 and not only takes on designing and installing its solar systems but diagnosing and repairing PV systems from other companies. BPVS also takes the time to fully train and certify its installers, ensuring that the system is installed correctly.

BPVS doesn’t provide explicit information about its service area on the company website, so if you are interested in working with this company, we recommend contacting the BPVS first and finding out if your home is in the service area.
