The Good

  • Booking Process
  • Build-Your-Own Package
  • Moving Deposit
  • Certificate of Insurance
  • Hourly Services

Booking Process

Bellhop’s booking process is one of the easiest and most user-friendly we’ve come across. To schedule a move with the company, go to the website and click ‘Book a move.’ Once you’ve done that, you answer the questions. You can select whether you want to hire movers or if you need a truck and movers. You input how large your house is. You can even set a time for when you want the movers to be at your home.

Once Bellhop has all your information, the company will recommend the package it thinks is best for your situation.

Build-Your-Own Package

If you fill out all the information to schedule a move and none of Bellhop’s recommendations sound right to you, you can build your own moving package.

With this option, you can increase or decrease the number of movers, trucks and drivers, and labor hours. The difference with this package is that you are billed with Bellhop’s prorated pricing model. So, if you reserve more than our two-hour minimum at the two-hour mark, you are then charged in prorated increments, but only for the time you use.

Moving Deposit

When scheduling a move with a company, most moving companies require you to pay a deposit. Typically most companies will ask for 20 to 30 percent of your estimated cost.

With Bellhop, your deposit is only 5 percent of your estimated cost.

Certificate of Insurance

On Bellhop’s website, you’ll find its Certificate of Insurance or COI. This certificate is proof that Bellhop has insurance if there were damage to the building (apartment, condo, etc.). Some property managers may require proof of insurance, and, conveniently, Bellhop has this easily accessible on its website.

Hourly Services

If you already have a moving truck and everything is packed, you can use Bellhop to hire movers to help load and unload your belongings to its new location. However, you can also use Bellhop to hire movers to help set up an event or take down chairs and tables. Or you can hire them to help you re-arrange your patio or garage.

This service is convenient because you don’t have to use Bellhop solely for moving. It’s a great service for those who just need a bit of help around the house or have an event they need help setting up or taking down.

The Bad

  • No Packing Services
  • Strict Cancellation Policy

No Packing Services

Consumers will need to keep in mind that Bellhop does not offer packing services, something that most other moving companies do. You can purchase packing supplies (boxes, tape, bubble wrap, markers, etc.), but when it comes to packing up your home or office, that’s your responsibility.

Strict Cancellation Policy

Bellhop’s cancellation policy is a bit stricter than other companies. With many moving companies, you have until two weeks before your move where you can cancel for free.

If you need to cancel your move with Bellhop, do it within the first 48 hours. If you cancel after Bellhop charges your 5 percent deposit, you will not get it back. Additionally, if you cancel within 72 hours of your reservation date, not only will you not get your deposit back, but you’ll also be charged a $100 fee.

The Bottom Line

The moving industry doesn't have the best reputation — lack of transparency, brokerage, damaged and missing items, lack of control, hostage situations (companies refusing to deliver belongings until more money is paid), etc. And unfortunately, as the moving industry continues to grow, some companies choose to take advantage of their clients. However, Bellhop is one company that hopes it can change all that with its personalized services and easy-to-use technology.

Although Bellhop hasn’t been around as long as other moving companies, it has received high levels of praise for its transparent and reasonable pricing, superior customer support, and variety of moving services. The company prides itself on providing consumers with reliable services and exceptional customer support throughout your entire move.

Bellhop is also fairly transparent about its pricing, which is relatively uncommon throughout the industry. You can quickly fill out the online form and receive a quote. However, if you want more customization for your move, you can build your own moving package.

The company offers local and long-distance moves, but it is not available nationwide yet. Check out the company's website to see if Bellhop is available in your area. Also, make sure you familiarize yourself with the company’s cancellation policy, as it’s a bit stricter than others.

Bellhops damaged my items, and their terms don't compensate the person being moved adequately for the damage. The truck was a short 26' truck that could not fit all of my material. The driver filled up for gas during my trip, causing an hour delay. Would strongly recommend using a professional moving company. The pricing for professional movers was similar, but professional movers did not have the availability I needed.

1. Impossible to get ahold of my moving coordinator. Never got my texts and calls answers unless I expressed extreme displeasure. 2. No communication on important milestones 3. Had tech issues with my dashboard; one of which led to me getting double charged 4. Many high value and high need items lost. These do not weigh that much so I'm going to get 0.001% of what it is worth.

I ordered 2 men to move a few large pieces of furniture and I only had one! It was impossible for him to move my items without my help. It took us 3 1/2 hours to do the job that should of would have taken 2 men to do in half the time or less. I was promised a credit but haven't received it yet. The young man who helped me was very nice. I will change my opinion when I receive my credit.

While the movers did a good job (so much so that I tipped all 3 $40 each), 4 boxes of approximately 12-15 pairs of shoes with 5 pairs being new are "missing!" And your company is NOT negotiating in good faith in regards to the amount to compensate me for them!

Most of my furniture was damaged to the point of being irreparable. The rest is in need of costly restoration. I filed a claim with bellhop for the over $2000 of damage and they offered me a $400 settlement. I paid over $3000 for the move. On top of that when I tried to dispute the settlement they have went radio silent.

The movers were nice and efficient but damaged a lot of my furniture. After submitting a claim and agreeing to a settlement, I have still not received payment for the settlement over a month an a half after my move.

There were three movers coming but one of them never left the driver's seat. The TV was cracked during the moving but the claim offer was far below the cost to repair it and the process is very slow.

Horrible. Worst experience of my life. It cost me $2000 to have the ant infestation removed and wash and treat all my belongings from an ant infestation that came from the delivery truck

Horrific. Movers moved recklessly and broke my items. Company refused to pay anywhere near a comparable price. Now unable to afford replacing them. Stay away, find another moving service.

I booked bellhop and paid the deposit 30 days in advance. Bellhop called me 30 minutes after my move was supposed to start to say that they did have a team available and tried to reschedule for 2 days later on a Monday. I told them I absolutely could not do that because I had to be out of my apartment on that exact day. I begged them for ANYTHING (not a full crew, just the truck, literally anything). They had no real remorse. Just apologizez in insincere corporate lingo and offered $150 for “goodwill”. Don’t book Bellhop. I only booked them because I thought they were reliable. They are not.

If I could give negative stars I would! We arranged 4 movers for 6 hours to move us. On the day of the move only 2 individuals showed up. While the guys that showed up worked hard, they were only able to move 1/3 of our belongings. The problems really started when I called and asked about getting the rest of my items moved. I was first insulted by being offered 20% the second move and no money back on the original move. After HOURS on the phone they agreed to refund a portion of the original move but couldn't "reschedule" and additional move until several days later, well after my husband and I would need to return to work. We are now on DAY 7 (post move) and I have yet to receive a single penny of my money from Bellhop that was promised. To make matters worse I had to pay ANOTHER moving company to finish the move. We are now out MULTIPLE days of work and almost $3,000 between the two moving companies! I have moved a lot in my life (20+ times) but this was by far the WORST MOVE OF MY LIFE! Bellhops customer service is a joke and their promises empty.

The awful way the handle damaged items. They repay you by a set rate per pound, not by what it costs to replace the item.
