Financial Tools and Resources

To assist homebuyers and homeowners in the loan process Gateway Mortgage provides a number of tools and resources on its website, including mortgage calculators, blog articles, and downloadable guides.

These tools can ensure that you are knowledgeable about the mortgage loan process, but also give you an idea of the interest rate and loan term you might get based on your finances and provided information.

Customer Support

The Gateway Mortgage process is simple and customer support is provided each step of the way.

To begin the loan process, borrowers are encouraged to speak with a Gateway Mortgage loan officer to determine you can afford and which loan option will best fit your needs. Beyond this point, the loan application is filled out and completed online, after which the Gateway Mortgage team will take care of the rest, including underwriting and processing.

If you have questions or concerns at any point in the process, you can email and/or call customer service.

Gateway Gives Back Program

Gateway Mortgage is committed to providing mortgage services to all borrowers and communities, but it is also committed to supporting community development issues.

Gateway Mortgage has been involved with community and charity organizations for many years, but the Gateway Gives Back program is its biggest initiative yet. Through the year 2022, Gateway Mortgage plans to invest $275 million of financing in low-to-moderate income communities, underrepresented communities, and non-profit organizations supporting community development.

The Bad

  • Rates and Terms Transparency
  • Not Available in All States

Rates and Terms Transparency

Gateway Mortgage does not provide an interest rate range or credit score requirement on its website, making it difficult for potential customers to discern whether or not the company is a good fit for them and their needs.

To check your rates, you will need to pre-qualify for a Gateway Mortgage loan. This application should only take a few minutes and shouldn't impact your credit score.

In addition, minimum down payment, closing costs, and additional fees are not made clear on the Gateway Mortgage website, making it difficult to know what other costs you may incur. However, it is likely that these costs and fees vary by loan type. But, closing costs generally range from 2 to 5 percent of the loan amount in the mortgage industry.

Not Available in All States

Gateway Mortgage does not lend in the following states:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Wahsington, D.C.

While Gateway Mortgage plans to expand its services in the future, currently if you live in any of the states listed above you won’t be able to use Gateway Mortgage for your home loan needs.

The Bottom Line

Gateway Mortgage is a trusted lender in the mortgage industry, setting itself apart by offering a wide variety of loan options that many other lenders don't provide. This allows you to choose and tailor your loan to your needs, and may also provide greater opportunity for low-credit or low-income borrowers to qualify for a mortgage loan.

In addition, if you are interested in working with a company that is heavily involved in giving back, Gateway Mortgage could be a good choice for you. Through its past charitable programs and current initiatives, Gateway Mortgage proves that it cares about the individuals and communities it serves.

However, the company is not transparent about rates, fees, and borrower requirements on its website, making it difficult to know exactly what you might be paying on your loan overall.

Gateway Mortgage reviews are currently limited and so it is difficult to know exactly what the customer experience is like with this company, leading us to recommend looking into other mortgage lending companies before making a final decision.

If you have purchased or refinanced a home loan with Gateway Mortgage, please tell us about your experience by leaving a review.
