Humana and UnitedHealthcare are both well-known and trusted health insurers. Both companies offer Medicare Advantage, Prescription Drug, and Medicare supplement insurance plans.
UnitedHealthcare stands out for its partnership with the AARP. However, it offers limited general information about its Medicare plans online. To learn more details, like plan structures and networks, you need to enter your zip code.
In contrast, Humana offers more general information that is easily accessible. Of course, since health plan offerings vary by location, for specific information, you’ll need to enter your zip code.

BE AWARE Humana's dental plan is NO GOOD. Humana DO NOT PAY for a root canal or crown work. Humana states it will pay $2,000.00 for dental work. It is deceptions since Humana pays 0 (zero) for crowns or root canal.

I just started Medicare through UHC and I am already impressed with their services and especially their customer service dept. I have all my annual physical appts setup....medical, dental, eyecare & hearing appointments. Totally recommend them as of now and since I am on their Advantage plan, my costs are fairly limited with NO deductible and very low co-pays to specialists and for scripts.

Couldn't even talk to someone about a Medicare Supplement policy they sell through AARP. After navigating the automated phone system for 5 minutes, spent another 15 with a dim witted rep who forgot to save my information in her computer. She then proceeded to call me by the wrong name and and had me in the wrong state. At that point, I said "never mind" and hung up. Call USAA and had a great experience with friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful people - they will be getting my business.
Humana offers several kinds of Medicare Advantage plans, including Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS), and Special Needs Plans (SNPs). Humana offers SNPs for people with eligible chronic illnesses and people who also qualify for Medicaid.
Humana Medicare Advantage plans can include SilverSneakers® gym membership and prescription drug coverage. Dental and vision coverage can be added to some plans for an additional cost.
The variety in plan structures give policyholders more options that can make it easier to find a plan that best suits your needs. Plan offerings varies by area, so work with Humana directly to see what options are available in your area.
To learn more about the Medicare Advantage plans offered by UnitedHealthcare in your area, you’ll have to reach out to the company directly. While information about plan structures is limited online, UnitedHealthcare offers good information on the perks included with some of its Medicare Advantage plans.
These perks include Renew ActiveTM gym membership, monetary rewards for being active, and a brain health app. Some plans also include dental and vision coverage, including coverage for eyewear.
When it comes to Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs), UnitedHealthcare offers limited general information online. To learn more, you’ll need to input your zip code and work with the company directly. Humana offers more general details about the plans it offers, which is convenient for people researching their options. Both UnitedHealthcare and Humana offer prescription mail delivery with some plans.
There is less variety with Medicare supplement insurance (Medigap) plans. These plans have more regulation and are similar across insurance carriers. Medigap plans available from Humana and UnitedHealthcare vary based on your area, so it’s important to reach out to the company directly to learn more.
To see which company is the best fit for you, you should compare what plans each offers in your area. Be sure to analyze the monthly premiums and out-of-pocket expenses in addition to coverage to see if a Humana plan or a UnitedHealthcare plan is best for you.
