The Good

  • 6 Unique Alert Products
  • Medication Dispenser
  • Guaranteed Fixed Price
  • No Long-Term Contracts
  • No Charge for Extra Clicks

6 Unique Alert Products

Personal Living Alert offers six unique medical alert products with individual benefits. The six unique products are outlined below:

Freedom Watch

With the look of a traditional watch with a smartwatch screen, this is an excellent option for those looking for a medical alert device that doesn’t resemble the traditional button worn around the neck or on a belt. Few companies offer devices with these style variations.

The watch is also able to verbalize messages, enabling weares to listen to messages from friends, family, or neighbors. Fall protection is not offered with this product. The watch is fully waterproof.

Belle LTE

This device works similarly to the Freedom Watch but with the more traditional look of a pendant worn around the neck. This device can track location and is active anywhere in the United States with Verizon coverage, meaning wearers can be on-the-go and still receive care.

Belle LTE has two-way communication ability and agents are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Fall protection is not offered with this product. The device is not waterproof but is water resistant.

Belle+ LTE

This device is designed for more active and out-of-house wearers. With all the same features as the Belle LTE, it also offers free fall detections software. This means if the wearer were to fall, an alert will be sent out to loved ones and the company’s 24 hour a day, 7 days a week agents. The device is not waterproof but is water resistant.

MXD LTE

This product is a package for complete home protection for single seniors or senior couples. The package includes several alarms and call devices, two of which are worn around the wrist of the wearers and are completely waterproof. Fall protection can be added for an extra cost.

The devices do not include a speaker, meaning it is only for alerting and not communicating. The devices cover a home up to 2,000 ft.

PLT On-The-Go

This product is a small, compact device meant for on-the-go seniors. Little more information is provided on the website, however this product does come with free activation and free fall detection.

Mini LTE

Another option for on-the-go seniors, PLT is a sleek and portable alert device. It offers a life-time warranty (whereas the other products’ warranty duration is undisclosed) and free fall protection. For a slightly higher price, this is a great option when compared with the Belle LTE or Belle+ LTE.

Medication Dispenser

Personal Living Alert also offers a medication dispenser device. Acting as a small, circular alarm and medication container, this device can be preloaded with up to 28 small pills or capsules which are dispensed following a programmed schedule. A low frequency alarm (best for those with hearing impairments) will sound when medication is ready to be distributed.

Customers can choose a cellular or landline option. With the cellular option, all dosage schedules and other settings can be controlled via an online portal.

Guaranteed Fixed Price

If a customer chooses to repeat a monthly, quarterly, or yearly plan, subsequent scheduled charges will not increase over time. This has become almost a standard in the industry and is a mark of a competitive company.

No Long-Term Contracts

A common best-practice in the medical alert product industry, no-long term contracts ensures that if the customer would like to terminate the contract before it is finished, the request will be granted and the company will return any previous payments for the unfinished time. Payment refunding, however, is not clearly communicated on the company’s website.

No Charge for Extra Clicks

Personal Living Alert does not charge for alert-button clicks. In fact, part of the company’s best characteristics is that it offers unlimited clicks, giving the customer peace of mind knowing that his or her loved one can click the button as many times as needed with room for accidental pushes or calls.

The Bad

  • Third-Party Distributor
  • Short Trial Period
  • Monthly Plan Requires Activation Fee

Third-Party Distributor

Person Living Alert is a third-party distributor, meaning that it acts as an authorized retailer and promoter for different medical alert companies.

While this increases the customer’s options for alert devices, it means that those who purchase a device from Personal Living Alert will be outsourced to the original party, not directly interacting with Personal Living Alert for his or her medical alert needs.

Short Trial Period

Personal Living Alert does offer a 14-day trial period; however a 30-day trial is most common in the industry. Customers should also know that if the medical device is returned within the 14-day trial unused and without damage, a $50 restocking fee will be charged.

Additionally, returns after the 14-day trial will be given a prorated refund and be charged a $50 restocking fee.

Monthly Plan Requires Activation Fee

Personal Living Alert charges for activation on all monthly plans, except for the Mini LTE and PLA On-The-Go plans. Quarterly or yearly plans come with free activation.

The Bottom Line

Personal Living Alert is a good option for those wanting to explore multiple alert products or who are seeking a quarterly or yearly commitment (as opposed to monthly) for a medical alert solution. The company offers free activation for quarterly and yearly plans, while an activation charge is required for its monthly plan.

As an authorized retailer of several medical alert devices, Personal Living Alert is continuously on the lookout for the best products and services for its customers. Because it is not the actual manufacturer of these products themselves, this may be a drawback for some customers in dealing with different warranties, prices, etc. depending on the product selected.

With many customizable options, competitive pricing, contract flexibility, and 24 hour, 7 days a week protection, Personal Living Alert can be a viable option for those seeking a medical alert device for a loved one.
