Denver Mattress Company started making waterbeds and mattresses in the 1980s and opened the first Denver Mattress store in 1995. The company now has over 90 locations in 30 states and is owned by Furniture Row.

The company's slogan "more mattress, less money" comes from its business model which includes manufacturing and selling exclusive mattress brands, direct to customers. This allows the retailer to sell quality mattresses for up to 50% less than competitors. The mattress options at Denver are wide. You can basically get a mattress with any kind of support system and most types of materials:

  • Innerspring mattresses
  • Individually wrapped coil mattresses with steel coils
  • Memory foam mattresses
  • Gel memory foam mattresses
  • Latex mattresses
  • Adjustable, inflatable air bed mattresses

Let's take a look at the options, starting with the Denver Mattress Co. in-house brands.

Denver Mattress Company Brands

  • Aspen
  • Athlete's Choice
  • Doctor's Choice
  • Easy Choice

This mattress manufacturer's proprietary brands offer 25+ queen size mattresses to choose from, ranging in price from the Summit Mattress (Q $189) to the Telluride Plush Mattress model (Q $1,399).

You can purchase an innerspring mattress, individually wrapped coil mattress, memory foam, latex foam, or gel foam mattress made by Denver. Its factory-direct mattress models are available in medium, firm, and soft comfort ratings and firm, plush and euro top mattress styles.

Aspen by Denver Mattress

The Aspen mattress line is a bed-in-a box line with unique, breathable firm memory foam called air foam. All materials are eco-friendly.

Aspen 2.0 is a firm air foam mattress, Aspen 3.0 is an air foam mattress with a plush firmness, and Aspen 4.0 is a hybrid mattress with a high density foam layer, an organic latex layer, 660 individually wrapped coils. It is organic and hypoallergenic.

Athlete's Choice By Denver Mattress

This bed-in-a-box mattress line offers three options: Silver, Gold, and Platinum and BeFit technology. All three Athlete's Choice mattress models are designed to support faster muscle recovery. These foam-based mattresses aim to relieve pressure points, provide motion separation, and a cool night's sleep with a cooling cover and copper-based foam materials.

The Platinum option combines individually wrapped coils with copper-infused visco air foam and a high-density foam topper.

Doctor's Choice By The Denver Mattress Company

These hybrid mattresses are made of 1.8 lb high density foam and pressure-response zoned coils. Several models included gel-infused memory foam and offer special foam edge support.

The Denver Mattress Doctor's Choice Plush Mattress (Q $699) is rated as the company's best mattress buy under $800.

Easy Choice By Denver Mattress

Formerly known as green Choice, Easy Choice is a foam mattress line made from upcycled foam. They are made without mercury, lead or heavy metals, ozone depleters, PBDEs, or prohibited phthalates. This product ships as a bed-in-a-box as well.

In addition to these four branded lines, Denver also manufactures many more mattress models under the Denver Mattress brand name.

Other Brands

In addition to these private product lines, customers can also shop popular national brands as well as luxury mattresses. They can be compared online, side-by-side, all in one place. Mattresses from Aireloom, American National, Magniflex, Purple, ReST Bed, Sealy, Stearns & Foster, Tempur-Pedic, and Vispring are also sold through Denver Mattress.

In all, Denver sells 70+ queen size models with a variety of mattress features. 15 are under $500 and 55+ are over $1,000.

The Good

  • Competitive APR Financing
  • Return Policy
  • Mattress Variety

Competitive APR Financing

Denver Mattress wants to make your shopping experience as pleasant as possible. That includes offering a variety of payment and financing options to suit your specific needs. Denver Mattress offers some of the best mattress financing in the country with a 24.90% APR option. You can also choose from the following financing options:

  • Synchrony Furniture Row credit card
  • GreenSky no payment and no interest program
  • Progressive no credit needed program

Return Policy

Denver Mattress Co. has an interesting return policy, called the Better Sleep Guarantee. To make sure that customers select a comfortable mattress with adequate pressure relief for their sleeping position, a 1-year policy is in place. This means that you get up to 365 nights to try out sleeping on your new bed.

An in-home trial is always helpful when it comes to mattress shopping. If you need a softer or firmer mattress, you can get a refund or exchange. Customers do have to sleep on it for 30 days, a standard break-in period, or sleep trial, for the mattress industry. This time period allows you to adjust to your new bed and vice versa, so a hasty decision isn’t made before the bed has been broken-in properly. After 30 days, you can contact customer service for assistance.

Please note that this is a pro-rated trial. Within the first four months after purchase, you can get 100% credit for a refund or exchange. This is a great policy. Not many retailers offer a refund at all.

The second four months, you get 75% towards an exchange, and the final four months, you get 50% credit towards an exchange. No returns are available for special order sizes: split king, split cal king, and full XL.

Amazingly, even clearance purchases are available for 100% credit towards a one-time exchange within 90 days. That is hard to come by. Not many retailers allow their policy to apply to a clearance purchase at all.

As with most in-home trials, this Better Sleep Guarantee has a fee; however, with this retailer, customers only have to cover any shipping or delivery charges.

Mattress Variety

With this retailer, you can buy quality mattresses at a low price. You can also buy great, industry-standard American brands like Sealy, Stearns & Foster, and luxury Tempur-Pedic. Where Denver Mattress puts the selection over the top is with specialty brands and out-of-the-ordinary options.

When it comes to specialty luxury mattresses, Aireloom and Vispring are hand-made mattresses. The latter company, Vispring makes handmade innerspring beds with pocketed coils and organic materials like British fleece wool, organic cotton, horsetail hair, silk, mohair, and cashmere. These beds cost tens of thousands of dollars.

The Easy Choice brand offers environmentally friendly materials, with up-cycled memory foams.

Shoppers can even check out advanced mattress technologies from Purple and two air bed options: American National and ReST Bed.

As for out-of-the-ordinary products, Denver sells sofa sleeper mattresses and carries several trucker sizes to choose from. It also offers an all-in-one mattress and bunkie board, mattress inserts to fit an old waterbed, and the Big Kahuna, a mattress that’s one foot longer than a King, measuring 76” x 92”. Because of the custom size, this type of mattress comes with a mattress pad, foundation, and sheets. It might be hard to find these accessories to fit.

You can purchase restful sleep at diverse pricing points. You can get innerspring, foam, and hybrid mattress models in a variety of comfort levels, as well as adjustable air mattress options from two different brands.

The Bad

  • Prorated Trial

Prorated Trial

Denver Mattress Company offers a year-long in-home trial.

This is awesome.

However, customers should know that after the first four months, the refund period ends, and you can only exchange. In addition to that, the second four months offer 75% credit and the final four months offer 50% credit towards a different mattress.

Despite this, it is still one of the most lenient mattress return policies we have seen.

The Bottom Line

Shoppers can find a good night’s sleep with a mattress from one of Denver’s in-house brands, Dr’s Choice, Aspen, Easy Choice, Athlete's Choice or Denver Mattress; or from its eclectic variety of third-party brands.

When it comes to type, you can find innerspring, memory foam, latex foam, hybrid and high-density foam mattresses, adjustable air beds, or Purple’s special comfort grid tech.

If mattress firmness is your pain point, you can buy a mattress for any sleeping positions from soft to firm.

If you feel unsure what type is best for you, the 365-night comfort trial and return policy can help you shop for a mattress firm in the knowledge that all sales are not final. You will benefit from a lenient return policy, starting at 120 days for a full return or refund. For eight months after that, however, customers can still get credit towards a new mattress. This is a great return policy.

Purchased our first mattress from Denver Mattress and it was a good experience. Told the salesman what we wanted and he was good about recommending several different models. He listened to our price range and explained the Sleep Guarantee. Very helpful. Quick and easy pickup.

Good selection, great prices and the only place I could find a straight foam mattress with no springs that was in my price range. I've previously owned their products before and the box spring had a knothole in one of the supports which led to a cracked support on the box spring that wasn't covered under warranty.

The gentleman that helped us buy our new mattress was very kind and patient. It was our first time buying a mattress and he did a great job recommending based off of his experience.
