Coverage Limits

Unlike some home warranty providers, most of First American’s covered items do not carry a specific dollar limit. First American plans do not require a home inspection to be done by a contractor or maintenance records to be retrieved from a repair person for coverage. The service provider also offers extra protection for malfunctions due to lack of maintenance, regular wear and tear, rust, corrosion, and sedimentary build-up. There are no age limits on covered items, and no limit to the number of claims a customer can file.

No matter the time of day, customers can open a claim. First American offers a 24/7 service request hotline where you can make service calls at any time as well as a user-friendly online customer portal. There is a tool on its website that allows for a zip code lookup to determine if First American provides coverage for customers in a particular state. We had a saga with our fridge for the last couple of months. We opened a claim with First American that send a technician that barley opened the fridge, said "it is a known issue with LG - you should call them", took his $75 and left. We called LG and they said that if we have home warranty, the home warranty company should send one of their licensed technician and we could get a new fridge! But this was after our contract was expired and First American said they can send another technician for free - if we renew of course. Our fridge is ding for the last couple of months, food was thrown many times. We brought another technician that said it is hopeless. So we now had to spent $1,600 + tax (after memorial day discounts) because First American DO NOT look after their customers it seems so.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This is the WORST Home Warranty and they are truly a FRAUD. The Contractor came to my home to fix a faucet which was making loud noise. When he left, there was a leak. The Home Warranty claim they cannot honor my claim because my contract does not cover faucets, however my contract does cover LEAKS but they refuse to send the contractor back out to fix the leak HE CAUSED! I will be filing a Better Business Claim against American Home Warranty and suing them from not honoring their contractual agreement.

My refrigerator went out last week of April. In the middle of this pandemic. They couldn't get a rep out until May 8th. The rep showed up and said he needed to pull out the refrigerator and that he might damage our floor. He asked me to sign a release holding him harmless if he damaged my floor. I would not sign the release (not a part of my warranty requirements) and the technician left. Another technician was supposed to arrive on May 15th and never showed (Sears Appliance Repair)! I've sent many emails and none answered. I finally called and pressed the number to speak to a sales rep to sell me a new plan. Phone was answered right way. If you want to buy a plan, you get immediate service. If you want them to handle a claim, you get the run around. Buyer beware. This is not a reputable service. You are going to pay them money and get nothing but a hassle in return. Hours on the phone, still no repaired refrigerator!!

Needed an AC repair, within a month of moving into our home. Side note: when buying a home with an AC, spend a $100 to get an AC inspection from a reputable HVAC contractor. Most general home inspection firms don’t do a detailed enough inspection of the AC unit (e.g. using an electronic leak detector) to find a leaking coil. If I could review the contractor who did the repair separate from First Am, the contractor would get five stars and First Am would get one star. The problem with First Am is that despite my paying extra to get AC coverage, with a specifically stated $1,500 maximum, the way that First Am “interprets” the contract language resulted in several exclusions that still resulted in my paying $800 for the job. That could have been a lot more if the Lennox warranty on the coil itself wasn’t still in effect. Bottom line - I’ll certainly never use First Am again.

This has been a horrible experience. I have called them numerous times and all I get is the same answer we are waiting on our purchasing department. This has been a week now and still no resolution. When I call customer service the call is routed to a foreign country and I can hardly hear the person and they are hard to understand. When I ask to speak with a supervisor I don't get one.

I have been using them for over two years. There service techs are horrible!!! They all let you know that their contracts with the company are horrible, if they have to come out over two visits for a repair, they will not get paid . I have a claim right now where the tech will not return to complete the job, we have been a month waiting. The service hotline is people who do not seem to care, when you make notes on your account portal, no one responds. Over all this company is not good at all, they just gladly charge your card monthly. They are cheaper than most. If you want a good one which I have used in the past, American Home Shield AHS.com, they are little higher but do a great job taking care of their customer!!

Worst customer service ever! They also hire contractors that are shady and try to charge you for things that should be covered! Don’t return messages and transfer you numerous times to different people! Go with American Home Shield!

Mixed results on repair jobs. Very disappointed in results of HVAC issues, just needed ducts sealed. Did not want total reconstitutes ducts.
