Choice Home Warranty Cost

Choice Home Warranty offers some of the most affordable prices in the industry:

  • Choice Home Warranty monthly cost: $45–$55
  • Choice Home Warranty annual cost: $530–$690
  • Add-on coverage cost: $40–$180

Your premium cost will be dependent on the coverage plan that you choose. If you add optional coverage to your plan, you will be charged an additional cost for each item. You can also opt to make one annual payment instead of a monthly payment, which could save you some money in the long run.

Most Choice Home Warranty plans have a flat service fee of $85 per claim, covering the cost of having a contractor/technician come to your home to diagnose and repair your broken appliance or system.

Choice Home Warranty offers the first month of service free with the purchase of any of its single-payment and one-year warranty plans. The company also runs frequent promotions that allow homeowners to win new kitchen appliances when they apply for a quote on a home warranty plan.

On BestCompany.com, Choice Home Warranty reviews* frequently mention plan pricing and 70 percent of those rate-specific reviews highlight how affordable and competitive the company’s prices are — many customers indicate that they chose Choice Home Warranty because of its low prices in comparison to other companies.

Customer Review: Keith from Snellville, Georgia

"I chose Choice Home Warranty because of the price and the amount of appliances they cover. It is definitely worth the money. The heater in the house went out and they scheduled a technician to come out early the next day to correct the situation."

Choice Home Warranty Plans

Choice Home Warranty offers extensive coverage similar to other top companies in the home warranty industry. Choice Home Warranty offers two coverage plan options:

  • Basic Warranty Plan — Covers basic home appliances, such as a water heater, a garage door opener, and a built-in dishwasher.
  • Total Warranty Plan — Covers all appliances in the Basic Plan, as well as additional major appliance and system options, such as air conditioner systems and refrigerators.
Covered Items Basic Plan Total Plan
Air conditioning
Heating system
Electrical system
Plumbing system/plumbing stoppage
Water heater
Whirlpool bathtub
Refrigerator
Oven/range/stove/cooktop
Dishwasher
Built-in microwave
Garbage disposal
Clothes washer and dryer
Ductwork
Garage door opener
Ceiling and exhaust fans

Conditions may apply, but either plan should cover most homeowner appliance or home system needs. It is also worth noting that Choice Home Warranty covers appliances and systems no matter the age, but they must be properly maintained and in good working condition.

Choice Home Warranty Optional Coverage

Choice Home Warranty offers a variety of optional coverage options which can be added to either the Basic Plan or Total Plan for an additional cost:

  • Pool/spa
  • Well pump
  • Sump pump
  • Central vacuum
  • Limited roof leak
  • Septic system
  • Second refrigerator
  • Stand alone freezer
  • Septic tank pumping

Choice Home Warranty Claims Process

The Choice Home Warranty claim process is as follows:

  1. Make a claim by phone or online through your customer portal account.
  2. Choice Home Warranty will begin contacting service providers upon receiving your claim. Within 48 hours you should receive the name and contact information of a contractor, as well as a confirmed appointment time.
  3. The contractor will come and perform the requested service. You will pay the $85 service fee.

If you need assistance beyond making a claim, Choice Home Warranty's call center is available 24/7. The company’s website also has a simple contact form that is easy to fill out and is sent to them immediately.

It is also worth noting that if an appliance or system breaks after a repair, you are guaranteed a free repair within 90 days of the original repair appointment.

No Home Inspection Required

Unlike some home warranty companies, Choice Home Warranty does not require customers to have their home inspected in order to obtain a contract, which enables a more seamless transaction process for those signing up for warranty plans.

This feature also allows customers to save money at the beginning by avoiding the cost of a home inspection.

Choice Home Warranty Customer Service

With many home warranty companies, the claims process is not very personable, and service requests are assigned to a clerk in a large department. However, customers who choose to purchase a Choice Home Warranty will work with a knowledgeable, dedicated team of two or three representatives that will service their covered home repair needs quickly and efficiently.

In addition to being thoroughly involved in the claim, Choice Home Warranty has representatives that are available to answer any questions that may arise. Anytime delays take place, Choice Home Warranty requires their technicians to immediately provide the customer with an estimated completion date. Customers will appreciate being kept in the loop about when the warranty service will be completed.

Customer Service: Melanie from San Antonio, Texas

"Choice Home Warranty is a better value than the home warranty company that I was previously with. They've been great. They have good customer service who answer your questions and help solve your problems. Anytime I've contacted them, they have satisfied me. I recently used the warranty because the ceiling fan in my living room quit working. When I contacted them online, they were right there saying a company was going to be coming over. That company never came so they dispatched another."

On BestCompany.com, Choice Home Warranty reviews* frequently mention customer service. Of these specific reviews, 63 percent of customers highlight good experiences with customer service, including timely response times and helpful reps.

On the other hand, 37 percent of reviews indicate poor customer service experiences.

Real Estate Agent Packages

Choice Home Warranty offers a number of coverage options specifically geared towards real estate agents. Because home warranties provide a valuable safeguard on the home's covered major systems and appliances, both buyers and sellers will receive peace of mind.

Additionally, including a home warranty with the purchase of a house provides a competitive edge that makes buying and selling homes more enjoyable. Choice Home Warranty also understands the addition of home warranty service has the opportunity to help close a deal, which ultimately has the opportunity to make the seller and the buyer more pleased with the settlement.

Transferable Service Contract

With Choice Home Warranty, coverage begins 30 days after enrollment and continues for 365 days from the start date. However, if a customer can provide proof of prior coverage through another warranty provider showing no lapse of warranty coverage, Choice Home Warranty will start new coverage as soon as the old warranty contract ends.

Any warranty contract can be renewed each year and is 100 percent transferable.

Choice Home Warranty Reviews

A majority of Choice Home Warranty reviews on BestCompany.com are positive. Praise in these reviews includes quick responses and fast repair services, good communication, reasonable pricing, and easy claims process.

Reviewers also rate companies when they leave reviews. The Choice Home Warranty rating on BestCompany.com is competitive with the average score for the home warranty industry.

The Bad

  • High Service Call Fee
  • Choice Home Warranty Coverage Limits
  • No Coverage for Pre-existing Conditions
  • Negative Choice Home Warranty Reviews

High Service Call Fee

Choice Home Warranty's service fee is $85 which is higher than the industry average fee of $75. However, Choice Home Warranty's service fee is a flat fee that won't change no matter the claim. Other home warranty companies may have a fluctuating service fee or different cost ranges based on the repair service that you order.

Choice Home Warranty Coverage Limits

The majority of appliances and systems covered by Choice Home Warranty have a $3,000 coverage cap, although there are some exceptions.

However, some systems have a lower cap of $500. The following systems fall into this category:

  • Ductwork
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical

If a service or repair exceeds either $3,000 or $500, depending on the appliance or system, you will be required to cover the remaining cost.

No Coverage for Pre-existing Conditions

Choice Home Warranty does not cover known or unknown pre-existing conditions for any covered appliances or systems. This isn't uncommon in the industry, but some home warranty companies do offer coverage for some pre-existing conditions.

Negative Choice Home Warranty Reviews

While a majority of Choice Home Warranty reviews on BestCompany.com are positive, a significant number are 1 star. Complaints include claims denial, trouble getting repairs completed, and delays with claims process and reimbursements.

It's been such a frustrating experience. Our dishwasher was broken for 3 months, and they had to send over a technician 8 different times, but couldn't fix it. Finally, the 2nd technician they sent refused to pay for the part that was broken, debating that they had invested too much in the dishwasher. We had to go around and around, negotiate, debate and argue with them to approve the part, which fixed the dishwasher immediately. Their customer service representatives can be very abrupt, and non-understanding at times. Also, they're not very technical, so you end up having to explain to them in laying in terms what needs to be fixed, in order to get it approved.

According to the internet, Choice Home Warranty was the number one extended warranty, so I went with them. I used them for the water heater, but they had a bunch of reasons why they couldn't cover that a 100%. They just cover a lot when they sell it to you, but when you call them, they end up saying that they don't cover that specific part. I'm not real happy about that.

They sent somebody over to fix my leaky toiler, but instead of fixing it, the technician wanted to sell me a brand new toilet. He only took a look at it once, and told me I needed a new one. I just got somebody else to come over, and they fixed it. They just haven't been very good.

I chose to go with them after a friend told me about it. Customer support is good; they send people out to check on stuff and everything, but I don't think they live up to what they say. They say that if something goes wrong that they'll replace it but that hasn't happened. I needed to use my warranty for my stove top and they couldn't do it. It was an older stove top and they couldn't find the serial number or anything on it, so they said that they would have to replace it. But, they didn't replace it; they just sent me some money to try to cover it. A new stove top costs around $800, and all they sent me was about $230. That's not what they say in the warranty; they say we'll replace it if they can't find it or fix it; and that wasn't replacing to me.

They weren't that good at first, but it was cheaper than American Home shield. They finally called the right contractor, but at first it was kinda shabby service. The last time I called them it got better, but at first it took them quite a while to work out the problem when they came out.

On the telephone they're real nice, but when it comes to action they're a little rough. The 3 or 4 times that I've used them, I've had to wait 4 or 5 days just to get the contractor to come to service what I needed, every time. Once the contractor finally arrived after 4 or 5 days, they completed the job. I went with them because the other company I had sucked.

Sometimes they are great - respond timely with professional service. But other times their vendors are unprofessional and have unacceptable response times. Just recently, i opened a claim on 6/16 for my fridge and almost two months later it is still unresolved - claim is still OPEN. There is no excuse for such unprofessionalism, no warranty company should allow this to happen if they expect repeat customers.

I used the warranty once to fix my oven, and they sent somebody over right away, however, I was disappointed the next two occasion I used them. My power went out on both occasions, and they said they couldn't do it because they don't do any underground work. They just didn't work out for me, so I'm not sure if I'll be going back to them.

Their customer support is wonderful, but it just takes them a long time to answer. I currently have an ongoing claim for a washing machine that I placed over a month ago, and it took them 2 and a half weeks to come out and diagnose the problem. and it took them another week and a half to order the parts. I even went to California and came back, and the problem is still there. It's going to take them another week to make an appointment, and we'll have to go through the process again. We've lived without my washing machine for almost 2 months now. I had the same problem at another home in a different city.

Dealing with their representatives has been good and bad. I was having some trouble with my dishwasher right after I purchased the policy, and they didn't want to come out because it was too soon. They finally decided to honor the policy and came out and fixed it. They actually did a good job, but the next time I called to have my refrigerator fixed. That's when I was informed they don't take care of refrigerator plumbing, so I had to go out and buy a new one. I'm afraid of calling them now because they'll probably find an excuse for not coming. Besides that, the price was good; that's actually the reason I chose them.

I've only had one experience with them. My garage door wasn't working properly, and they took a long time to get the issue solved. There a was a discrepancy on how much they would pay for the part that was needed, and after some hours, they paid a little more than what they initially said. It wasn't a good experience.

So far it has been great, though we later discovered that this and that thing were not covered. That disappointed us. We have used them about 5 times and my issues have only been covered 2 out of those 5 times. Also, sometimes when we call the contractors, they don't respond, or at least they don't respond right away. Though the last experience we had with them, the person that came was great. It doesn't seem like it covers too much. My tenant once called me because the air conditioner was dripping water. When I called them they said '''Oh we're not covering that'' I said '''What? What do you mean, it's dripping water inside and something is clogged or bad.'' They just said that it was considered maintenance and they don't cover that. Ten times out of five is not covered. We failed to read the fine print. Our A/C system is under manuafacture warranty but it just covers parts. With the Choice Home Warranty rule that they don't cover the A/C if its under factory warranty we have paid more than $1000 for repairs not covered under the factory warranty nor Choice. Gee why did we get choice. Also we have a built in microwave that the repairmen have said needs to be replaced. Choice keeps sending a circuit panel which only works for a few days. This will be the third time we report it. They did fix the circuit breaker problem only after wasting two days to verify it wasn't the hot water heater when we told them what was wrong.

On my very first claim I had with Choice it has taken them over 2 months to correct the problem. We call Choice to ask if part has arrived yet and they tell us we should call the technician that came to our house to survey the situation. We call the technician and he said the part is being ordered by Choice so they are the ones that can give us the arrival date. The situation goes on and on for weeks and we still dont know when we will have our oven in working order again. Very frustrating..

This place would be a 3-4 star except for 2 things: 1) the policies are written so that there is minimal exposure to Choice which I understand, but you could cover a few more things and still be profitable which their advertising makes it very misleading in terms of what is actually covered 2) the worst thing about choice is not the way the policies are written, it is the people you talk to once a claim is denied. There are the rudest, most bitter and hateful people I have ever come across. This group is the one that needs to be the nicest, of all the internal groups and are the ones that can save business, but no, they drive it away with their terrible people skills and bad attitudes.

I called for service and was placed into the queue and had a reply that I thought was very fast. The said someone would be at my home between 12:45 and 3pm the same day - they called to confirm and then said "sorry he's already left the area" and can be there Friday. I said that was too long since there is water leaking. They said they would put me back into the queue and someone would pick it up. As a paying customer it is annoying to constantly hear complaints from the repair men dispatched to do work in your home. Choice is constantly bartering with the repair men over the phone while they are in your home. The repairmen then get off the phone annoyed with you that Choice won't pay them for this or that. As the customer I don't want to be involved in those issues. I just want my heat/air fixed. Ultimately, Choice needs to get their act together! Repair people dispatched are knowledgeable and able to handle all the repairs I've had .

Was trying to up-sell me the whole time, to a 5 year deal. I just wanted to try it out for a year, but he kept pushing. Finally he stopped. When I told him to call me back, he really didn't want to do it. I was literally paying for it online when I got the call. Their prices online are strange!... Every time I quoted the price it was a different amount. Sometimes it was 550 and sometimes it was 440. So not sure what their practices are.

Every time we had a claim there was a major negotiation. You didn't just pay your copay and get it fixed. They would find some way to say it was your fault and when we complained they would come back and say ok wee will pay this and have to pay the rest. I guess that is better than nothing , but what a hassle.

I am "on the fence" with these ratings. I contracted four rental homes (with a three year contract) for PEACE OF MIND and so far, I have had more stress in following through with two claims. One critical claim was over Veteran's Day Weekend, so I had hoped this wasn't typical of Choice Home Warranty service. They couldn't find a service man to even begin the process for over five days. At the end of two separate service calls and the compressor completely breaking down, I was finally offered a total of $500 to replace a refrigerator that was not that old and had an "outside the door" water dispenser. Feature to feature would be a MINIMUM of $800. I ended up spending over $1000 to replace the refrigerator and got a whopping $500 from Choice Home Warranty. (Subtract the two service calls I paid from that total) My ONGOING issue is with a clothes dryer that was reported "not working" SIX DAYS AGO. A serviceman arrived yesterday and said the control board needed replacing and he would let Choice Hone know. The company called Choice Home at 6am. When I called Choice Home at 8am, they said they were still waiting to hear from the appliance company. To make a long story shorter, after multiple phone calls, I am still waiting for both companies to stop telling me, "He said; She said" and just PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE STATUS AND NEXT STEP in this painful process. My tenants would like an operating washing machine.

This place is absolutely the worst. they don't always contract with licensed technicians, and when the technicians mess things up, Choice holds no liability to even help the homeowner fix what their technician messed up. I have also found that when the technician provides their report on the Breakage, Choice always finds a way to make things the homeowners fault causing them not to have to fix the appliance. the Claims adjuster is NEVER wrong and only wants to argue with you consistently even when they know themselves that they are wrong. My advice is to NOT go with this company or others like them.
