The Good

  • 18-Month Contracts
  • Remote Access From Any Mobile Device
  • Fire Protection

18-Month Contracts

Time Warner offers home security options with contracts lasting only 18 months. This timeframe is much shorter than the three to five years required from similar competitors.

Remote Access From Any Mobile Device

Customers do not have to pay any activation fees and are able to access all features remotely on any mobile device. Home security plans include video surveillance and energy management features. The wireless broadband systems also feature cellular and battery backup systems to keep customers safe and protected if there is a loss in Internet service. A landline phone connection is not required.

Fire Protection

The systems also include fire protection features and are professionally monitored 24 hours a day by certified dispatchers. When an alarm is triggered, these dispatchers immediately notify emergency personnel to respond and send the customer an alert by text or email.

The Bad

  • Only Works With Time Warner Internet Service
  • No Equipment Warranties Available
  • No Cancellation Information Disclosure

Expensive Upfront Costs

New customers must purchase $99-$199.99 of home security equipment upfront plus pay a $39.99 monthly monitoring fee.

Only Works With Time Warner Internet Service

Customers must also be subscribed to the company's Internet service in order to activate home security systems.

No Equipment Warranties Available

No equipment warranties are provided directly by the company but may be offered by the manufacturer. Customers may also be required to pay technician fees for service of home security equipment.

No Cancellation Information Disclosure

The company does not provide details about its cancellation fees on its website. Customers may be responsible for early termination fees equal to the remainder of the contract if they decide to cancel before it expires. If customers move to a location where the company's Internet service is not available, the contract will be canceled and the customer will be subject to the early termination fee.

The Bottom Line

Time Warner Cable offers a wide range of home security, home automation, and energy management solutions for customers across the United States. The home security systems are professionally installed at not cost and professionally monitored 24 hours a day; however, upfront costs are expensive and customers must be Time Warner Cable Internet subscribers to activate the home security systems.

High cost. Customer service via telephone is very poor. Intelligent home requires high data rate internet service. On site tech support is very good. Use caution when asking for seasonal service as intelligent home requires internet and phone service even if you are away. Now known as Spectrum.

They scam customers with the 200 rebate. After getting a $700 bill i never got the 200 visa card instead they choose to deduct 200 off the overpriced free install. If i want to ever reactivate system i need to pay them over a hundred.fifty dollars to reactivate the equipment i already have. What a rip off company SPECTRUM CSBLE COMPANY

Initial sales lied on product and it's future capabilities. Internet stability is poor, constantly buffering. Ev en with new modems, not able to preform. Too expensive for simply watching the cameras, even then, at least a ten second delay frm real time. Very few knowledgeable techs. 800 number customer service is the absolute worst.
