Oscar is a newer name among health insurance providers, but it has grown from its initial startup since its founding in 2012. The company values simplicity and communication, so it seeks to simplify policies in order to better cover the needs of its clients.

With Oscar, customers can find plans with health savings accounts (HSAs) and traditional health insurance plans for individuals and families. Oscar also offers Medicare. Oscar does not offer dental or vision coverage.

Plan Options Offered

Oscar tries to ensure that all clients find an easy health care plan to suit their individual needs. Oscar offers both on and off exchange individual plans in all states in which it operates, plus small business plans in New York, New Jersey, and Tennessee. Under the Affordable Care Act on- and off-exchange plans must cover essential health benefits, like primary care, hospital stays, and mental health services. (The health insurance exchange is a government-created marketplace, also called the health insurance marketplace.)

Oscar's coverage options include: Health Savings Account (HSA)-compatible plans and self-funded options. From the company's website, t's unclear what kinds of networks Oscar's plan options include. It's common for health insurers to offer plans with in- or out-of-network coverage. For example, Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans only cover in-network care, except in emergencies. Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans cover in-network care and out-of-network care. Even though a PPO plan offers more flexibility with providers than an HMO plan, your out-of-pocket costs will typically be higher if you see an out-of-network provider than for seeing an in-network provider with a PPO network plan.

Oscar also offers Medicare Advantage plans. It does not offer Medicaid services.

Oscar offers three plan options:

  • Classic Plans
  • Simple Plans
  • Saver Plans

These plans are also organized using the metal tier system created by the Affordable Care Act. Depending on your area, each Oscar insurance product can be a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum plan. Bronze plans put the most cost-sharing on policyholders, while platinum plans put the least. Bronze plans also have lower deductibles. Platinum plans typically have much higher deductibles.

All Oscar Plans have free Doctor on Call telemedicine services, rewards for steps tracking, an Oscar Concierge team, and pre-deductible preventive care benefits to keep out-of-pocket costs to a minimum for both specialty and brand-name drugs.

Oscar Classic plans generally match the policy and structures of most of the plans on the individual insurance market.

However, Oscar Simple plans are easier to understand, because clients only have one dollar amount to remember: all covered services are free after clients hit their deductible. This is because the deductible is set at the same level as the maximum out-of-pocket amount. (Note: Care that happens before the deductible is met requires a copay, coinsurance, or full payment by consumers.)

Oscar Saver plans are HSA-compatible plans with low monthly premiums and a higher deductible. Members use the money in their HSA to pay for health care throughout the year.

Oscar Backup plans are a low premium, high deductible option designed for healthier people who was to save on upfront medical expenses.

Member Resources

Before becoming a member, potential clients can receive free quotes of premiums from Oscar's website or by phone. With this tool, a customer can answer a few general questions about themself (zip code, age, how many people they want to cover) as well as about their expected medical needs in the next year. Through this brief process, Oscar can direct clients to the most cost-efficient health plan with the person's health in mind.

Individuals are then able to see all of Oscar insurance plans, costs (deductibles, copays, out-of-pocket maximums, and health insurance premiums, including government subsidies if you qualify), benefits, and recommended options to help decrease out-of-pocket costs.

After clients pay the first premium, Oscar sends a welcome kit, which includes the client's ID card(s), an in-depth look at the free perks and benefits, as well as the individual's Schedule of Benefits and Coverage. This welcome kit also has a "Health Care Cheat Sheet" to help break down all the details of the chosen insurance coverage within the individuals' plan.

Lastly, Oscar offers a web account and mobile app to its customers. The online account and health insurance app allow users to search for health professionals covered by Oscar's plans, book appointments with healthcare providers, and view detailed doctor credential information and reviews to find the one(s) best suited to handle their specific needs. The Oscar app makes the features of the member portal more convenient to access on the go.

Members can call or message their Concierge team by simply clicking a button within the app. This app also provides members with a "Health Timeline", which contains their personal medical information and history such as appointments, prescriptions, lab results, and billing information.

Unique Features

Oscar has unique features that many other competing health insurance companies do not. One of these is the fast registration process. Because the company emphasizes simplicity, Oscar has taken many steps to remove the complication of choosing a health insurance plan and registering. It also seeks simplicity by providing efficient customer service, clarifying information on health insurance policy and potential medical expenses, and more.

Each member is also assigned to a Concierge team and a nurse, which allows customers to receive specialized service. This team can assist with finding doctors, booking appointments, coordinating care for complex or chronic medical issues, providing clinical guidance, and resolving billing or reimbursement issues.

Furthermore, instead of casting a wide net and contracting with every health care provider, Oscar has developed a curated network of medical groups and doctors in each of its service areas to ensure tighter integration and higher quality health insurance policy for members. Additionally, they use data science and complex modeling to assess network coverage, provider quality, and service volume to improve their offerings.

Oscar also provides rewards to customers who reach their step goals. Customers track their steps using the health apps that come with iPhones and Androids. When they reach their daily step goals, they can receive up to $240 per year.

Customer Service

Oscar provides excellent customer support. They provide phone support from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday local time in each of its markets, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends. When clients call or secure message Oscar, you are connected to a Concierge team. This unique model provides customers with additional support. Each Concierge team consists of a care guide and a registered nurse.

In addition, due to the nurse's experience on the team, they can also handle clinical questions, including assessing a member's needs and connecting them with the proper type of doctor to address their needs. Concierge teams proactively reach out to members if they visit the ER or hospital unexpectedly to make sure they are okay and that they have done all the follow-ups the doctors requested. Because they're familiar with you and use Oscar's powerful backend systems to see your history instantaneously, there is never a need to be passed off to another department.

Oscar also provides what they call Doctor on Call, a telemedicine service that lets members talk to a doctor 24/7 for free over the phone. This service is especially convenient for getting medical advice when you don't want to take a trip to the doctor's office.

The Bad

  • Limited Availability
  • No Dental or Vision Insurance
  • Limited Plan Types

Limited Availability

Oscar health insurance plans are only available to customers in some parts of the United States, including New York, New Jersey, California, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Arizona, and Tennessee. Small businesses may also be eligible for Oscar coverage in California, Tennessee, New Jersey, and New York. To check availability, input your zip code on Oscar's website to see the plans available to you.

No Dental or Vision Insurance

Oscar health plans don't include dental or vision coverage, except for children under the age of 18. Many competing insurance providers do include dental and vision options.

Limited Plan Types

Oscar doesn't work with customers on Medicaid. Depending on your plan, you may get health care, prescriptions, and medical supplies from providers who take Oscar plans. This might mean you don't need a referral for a specialist, but it may also mean that you have no out-of-network benefits, except for emergency situations or if you sign up for out-of-area coverage as a small group customer. Be sure to understand how your health coverage works when looking for health care providers.

Oscar insurance customers should also make sure they understand the terms of their health care plan. They should understand under what circumstances they need prior authorization and what kind of coverage is available for pre-existing conditions.

The Bottom Line

Finding affordable health insurance and a trustworthy insurer is an important step for finding affordable care. There are plenty of plans and health insurers to choose from. How good is Oscar health insurance?

While Oscar is a newer health insurance company, its plan offerings and simple process make its health insurance plans worth considering. If Oscar has a good network and a plan that meets your health and budgetary needs, it's a good option. Be sure to understand how a plan's network and coverage work before enrolling. If Oscar doesn't offer the kind of network plan you're looking for, you may need to consider another insurance company.

Because Oscar does not offer Medicaid, those seeking a Medicaid insurance policy should also find another health insurer.

Oscar offers a wide array of member tools and support options. Its mobile app and Concierge Teams offer customers abundant and easily accessible customer service.

For customers in the available states who are looking for these types of plans, however, an Oscar health plan is a fantastic option. Oscar boasts reasonable rates, several customer service contacts, a fast enrollment process, and offers free services with every health insurance plan.

Oscar claims to be the solutions to healthcare and it turns out they made the problem worse. In May 2019 they fired the good doctors from their plan in San Antonio and only do business with the less capable/experienced doctors in the Baptist network that they feel they can control. My Bronze plan pays for nothing! $640+ and they won't even pay for part of the blood panel required for my annual physical. If when I signed up I knew I would lose all the doctors I do business with on May 1, I certainly would have not renewed them for the 3rd year. YOU ARE WARNED! Stay away - they are a young insurance company already desperately cutting benefits.

Overall, Oscar insurance is well run. Good communication when required. Only concern is their explanation of benefits does not list the service provided, any codes or name of provider. This makes it very difficult to reconcile with bills received from providers.

Oscar Insurance has been hassle free and their customer service team is friendly, efficient and very helpful. They have a doctor on call service that I have yet to use but knowing it’s an option instead of making an appointment with my own doctor for a quick question is nice. All of my doctors are in-network which is why I chose Oscar. My co-pays are decent and cost of prescriptions make it affordable to get my medicine each month.

Since switching to Oscar from another very reputable health insurance provider, I could not be happier. From the level of doctors available to the app, and the doctor on call, I have been blown away from the level of excellence. I have recommended Oscar to all my friends and they will all be switching when they can.

Let Oscar's robotic template responses to real people's reviews here be your guide, then pick ANY other insurance company. "Oh, sorry you're frustrated..." - as in, Oscar doesn't think their customers' experiences of their piss-poor insurance are legitimate. You'll *read* their same cut/paste responses about how "sorry that you're frustrated" Oscar is. But after two years with Oscar in a major metropolis (LA), I promise it's getting worse to actually get care through Oscar. "...our Curated Network..." - That means you'll wait a month to see a doctor, if you're lucky. Plan on waiting and waiting and waiting to actually see a doctor. By the way, a couple of the providers in their carefully "curated network" are actually deceased. Pretty disgraceful. Oscar's cheerful fonts, app, and cutesy language doesn't cut it when your health and life are concerned. Their robo-replies here are very telling about how "corporate" and robotic and incompetent Oscar actually is. STAY AWAY!

I was initially in love with Oscar and it’s customer service model until I had to actually use their medical coverage which is insultingly bad. Apparently, according to their reviewer who denied my claim, my hospital stay after surgery was “unnecessary” (although standard by all other accounts) because even though I literally couldn’t walk, had to be carried to my bed by nurses, as well as other factors that are common after a major surgery they thought I should have been able to levitate home and have outpatient coverage! Their concierge customer service was extremely polite and friendly but I cannot get any solid information from them, only vague almost automated responses that seem to be designed to frustrate you so you will just give up seeking the coverage you pay them for. I am beyond disappointed. My direct questions are never answered. Please believe the reviews about their denials of coverage. You do not want to be hit with a ridiculous bill of close to 20k when you should be focusing on recovery. The point of insurance is for peace of mind when dealing with health care and prevention and my recent experience with Oscar has been the exact opposite! Sure, their ads seem inviting, and their app interface is cool, but what they lack is substance which is exactly the point of any health coverage. I really wish I saw these negative reviews sooner, because they have been my exact experience!

Oscar cashed my check for my premium payment. I then received a letter stating I was delinquent with my payment. I call oscars “concierge” team and they request I forward them proof. I go to my bank, collect the proper paperwork and file it over. Representative states to me that it looks like an error was made in their end but until the billing department finds my check I am considered delinquent. They tell me to pay online or by phone so there’s no mix up again. So imagine this.... you wrote a check out to your insurance company, they cash it, you send them proof that they cash it and then they tell you it may be safer to do it online or by phone. I do not recommend this company to anyone. Told me it would be resolved in 24 hours. It has been a week now. This is not a company you want to be involved with.

I suffered a joint injury and needed a doctor in my area (a major metropolitan area). They could not tell me the name of an orthopedic surgeon in my area. They told me it would take up to 48 hours to find one in their network, and that they would get back to me. Pros: Lowest Price for any metal tier, same benefits as other metal-tiered plans as other competitors, and if you like gimmicky presentation with decent technology, then Oscar is good for you. Their customer service team is amazing! They are very helpful and pleasant. The Bad: Very limited medical access because they keep throwing this curated network to manage cost. The problem is the Curated Network chosen will decide which local providers they want to contract to be part of their network. So, if you can't see many providers in your area, blame the curated network that Oscar has chosen, indirectly blaming Oscar because they fail to address this effectively. Great idea, but horrible execution.

Oscar has completely disrupted the healthcare and health insurance industry by reinventing a new experience and a new way to access and manage healthcare in a positive, easy, effective, and fun way. The app and the product is very easy to use, has clear steps to sign up, and makes it easy to understand your payments and your coverage. The customer service is quick to respond and very friendly. The Doctor on Call feature is extremely helpful to have, instead of going to urgent care waiting for hours when you can simply solve it in less than 5-10 minutes. I love using the app and have recommended Oscar to so many friends and family! Beautifully designed as well.

Oscar offers a pretty thin network. In TVs and cellphones, thin is good. In medical care, not so much. It means that it's hard to find a good doctor to treat your condition. Or hospital. Virtually no major New York hospitals accept this insurance except Mount Sinai, and almost none of my Mount Sinai doctors accept it either. None of the good doctors I have gone to in the past accept this insurance. Instead, I have been to some truly horrible practices and clinics . In one case, over three visits, I never saw an actual doctor, just a nurse practitioner. I have also seen good doctors who are part of terrible, factory-like practices that make it impossible from them to do their jobs well since they only have five minutes with each patient. I have been misdiagnosed, non-diagnosed, etc. Oscar is also extremely stingy with reimbursements for lab work, physical therapy etc. even for preventive or covered services. They always find ways not to pay for certain things. They focus a lot of PR on their app, their "wellness center" in Brooklyn, and other meaningless stuff. On the key issue—medical treatment—they are terrible. The only reason I gave them two stars instead of one is that they don't require referrals for you to see doctors in their crappy network. This offers some freedom to pick and choose so you are not completely at the mercy of a primary care provider. But your choices may not be great.

Hi Jeremy, we're sorry to hear you're frustrated with your plan. If you have a high-deductible plan, preventive services are covered in full, but any non-preventive services will be subject to the deductible. This means that you'll be responsible for the full negotiated rate of those services up until the amount of your deductible is met. Additionally, if there's ever an emergency, your plan covers emergency care at out of network emergency rooms as well as urgent care at out of network urgent care facilities. Please don't hesitate to give us a call at 855-OSCAR-55, we're always here to help.

My fiancé has the Oscar plan. It has been a terrible experience. There are so few doctors who take Oscar. She has had preventative care for women's health and Oscar denies any coverage. They wouldn't even cover the follow up appointment with the copay, so we had to pay fully out of pocket. I highly recommend staying away from this company. Read all the reviews. they're almost all bad. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and have NONE of these issues. Every single doctors visit I go to I only pay my $30 copay. Even preventative care. This company is not looking out for your best interest. IT"S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY AT OSCAR

Hi Josh, thank you for taking the time to write this review. Health insurance plans can differ, so if your fiancé has a high-deductible plan then certain non-preventive services will be subject to the deductible. This means that they be responsible for the allowed amount of those services up until the deductible is met. The bill received from a provider may reflect the cost for their service and not what you will ultimately owe after we apply the allowed amount to that bill. We're happy to answer any follow up questions your fiancé may have at 855-OSCAR-55.

Started with OSCAR for 2019. Near end of January, I purchased Stelara through CVS Speciality Pharmacy as recommended by OSCAR. Used Stelara Savings Program to pay remaining balance of $7900 - $5.00 copay paid by me under Stelara savings program. This purchase satisified my deductible as indicated by several pharmacy reps and the pharmacist filling the prescription. All said I had met my obligation for the year. The OSCAR online system also showed the deductible had been paid. I saw another doctor after this for a sinus infection and medication was prescribed and all charges were covered. On 2/25/19, I fell and fractured my hip. Went to E/R at an in network hospital. Give hospital my card. They come back an hour before my surgery to tell me OSCAR says I owe a deductible. I tell them there must be some mistake, as it was fulfilled in January. So I follow up with OSCAR when I am home on 3/1/19, and was told they backed out the deductible paid in January because it did not physically come out of my pocket, even though it was paid on my behalf by Stelara. My last insurance provider always provided these Stelara payments towards my deductible, and so did OSCAR initially. I asked OSCAR rep what difference did it make if Stelara reimbursed them on by behalf, or if I paid and then got reimbursed by Stelara??? There answer: "Because it came out of your pocket, and we don't get re-imbursed by Stelara, when they pay on your behalf". Say what???? So now I will be forced to go through this a second time. I don't know yet how the hospital emergency will be handled and now I am on pins and needles wondering what other shenanigans they will pull. The other thing I do not like is they will not accept credit card payments for premiums. My premiums are almost $800.00 a month. Their customer service reps are super slick, and will explain away anything that makes sense to a normal person. Like where did the money go that Stelara paid on my behalf?? It just doesn't vanish into thin air, and it would appear OSCAR is taking $7895 from Stelara and will take another $7895 from me. How can this possibly be legal?? Yet, they insist it is, and they did not receive anything from Stelara. I called Stelara, and they said the insurer can allow the payment from Stelara to be paid towards the deductible. So why is OSCAR not doing the right thing in this matter???? Why did they back out the Stelara payment?? I'm sure they didn't give it back to Stelara. So where did the Stelara money go??

Hi Linda, we appreciate the feedback. Due to privacy laws this isn’t something we can help with via Best Company, but DM us your Oscar ID number and we’d be happy to have your Concierge team get in touch with you to help. As an Oscar member, you can still use third-party copay assistance programs, keeping in mind that only the amount you pay for the prescriptions yourself will be applied towards your deductible or out-of-pocket max. When a coupon is applied, members can waive the full cost-sharing cost for a speciality drug, not including all other services, until the coupon runs out. The cost-sharing is split between the member, Oscar, and the manufacturer. We do want to note that this applies to speciality drugs, not coupons for retail drugs. Your Concierge team at Oscar is here to help you understand your plan, so please don't hesitate to give us a call at 855-OSCAR-55 when you have questions in the future.

I live in LA and am incredibly disappointed with Oscar. They only have mediocre doctors in LA through UCLA and they route the Oscar patients through a horrible call center so you can never speak with the doctor or assistant. My wife needed an MRI for hip pain after seeing two Oscar doctors and it was deny deny deny. I am still fighting them to get a basic MRI done. After the policy is done this year I am going back to Blue Shield even if it costs more. The EPO is basically a repackaged HMO. They have to approve everything. There doctor network is PATHETICLY bad. I don’t care what anyone says. I gave them a chance and am now regretting it.

Unless you have a ton of time to devote to finding a doctor, waiting in a waiting room and in general struggling to get your needs met, this is not the insurance for you. We signed up for Oscar starting 1/1/19 and on 1/3, we started looking for doctors. The first several we called said they didn't take Oscar, despite being on Oscar's site. The next several were not primary care doctors despite being listed as such on Oscar's site. We finally got an appointment with someone a week out to find their office standing room only and being told wait time was 2 hours after the appointment time. After giving up on that, we went back and tried calling more doctors to find the same thing happening or the doctors that did support Oscar and were primary care doctors were booking appointments months out. During this whole thing we tried working with Oscar's "Concierge Team" and they're useless. They have the exact same list we do on the website, don't believe you when you tell them it's wrong, won't call on your behalf (despite their website saying they will)... It's just a huge, useless, expensive nightmare.

PRO: - Doctor call option to discuss if you should go to urgent care - Easy to find who IS in Network (see cons though...) - Easy Messaging System CON: - Doctors in network are not doctors that are popular and suggested - Only can get a breast pump through ONE company - the company has changed and I had to notify them. They then sent me another company that only provides minimal options and they didn't answer the phone. - Will wait 24 hours with their chat option.

The same thing happened to me that happened to Jon in the Jan 24th review below!!! Warning do not do business with this company! In Nov and Dec 2018 I never received notification my bill was ready and when I went to pay my bill, Oscar.com said I had a $1700 credit, then I received a notification in the mail that my claims in November would be denied because my coverage was cancelled for nonpayment. In addition, my husband had surgery in July and the hospital reached out to Oscar several times for a settlement and Oscar did not respond. This company is grossly negligent and incompetent.

I liked the intuitive design of Oscar's website and app, but their computer systems clearly have some kinks to work out. For a few months, their site and app showed that I owed $0 in premium payments. It even showed my statements for previous and current months as being paid in full. Then I got an email one day warning me that if I did not pay my premium, my coverage would be canceled. Immediately upon receiving this email, I called customer service to figure out what was wrong. I was told that an error with their system had caused the website to inaccurately display that I was paid in full, and that I actually still owed premium payments. So I agreed to pay my entire outstanding balance over the phone that day, and then I set the website to auto-withdraw from my bank so that this would not happen again. Two weeks later in December 2018, I received a letter in the mail stating that my coverage had been canceled due to delinquent non-payment. It stated that I hadn't paid during the grace period of December 2018 to February 2019, and my coverage had been canceled as of November 30. Obviously, these dates made no sense. I also received at the same time a welcome packet and new ID cards. Yet whenever I logged into the site at this point, it said I no longer had a plan through Oscar. I called customer service again and found out that even though this whole thing was Oscar's error, they could not reinstate my coverage because it had been apparently canceled by the Federal Health Market. I then had to call the Federal Health Market in order to figure out that when Oscar had tried to reinstate my plan the first time, the Market did not let them because the Market's records still erroneously showed that I had failed to make payments. Now I'm waiting to hear back from the Market as they have escalated my case to be investigated. I've been assured by both them and Oscar that this process will finish within the next 30 days and then my coverage will be reinstated. I'm hoping that will happen. Nevertheless, it is still bizarre that a healthcare company's computer system could be so broken as to cancel someone's coverage for no reason and send out notices that are so bizarre and contradictory; and then have no way of easily reinstating the plan even when the error was on their end. I had to do an awful lot of investigation on my own to even figure out what had gone wrong. So I'm currently uninsured, and I have to pay out of pocket for prescriptions until my coverage is reinstated. Oscar has offered to reimburse these costs once my plan is back, which I hope will happen. And they say I'll be able to have my doctor bill claims reprocessed at that point. Even still, what would I have done if I couldn't afford to pay for the prescriptions out of pocket during this period? Hopefully once this is remedied, I'll have better experience with Oscar, but so far it's been a major confusing headache.

They did an underhanded bait-and-switch with my policy. I signed up for the same plan as last year, but they didn't tell me that the benefits were radically changing. Or if they did tell me it was buried in the very fine print of a 30 page booklet with the smallest text I've ever seen. Now I'm stuck with a plan that will cost me hundreds more every month compared to last year. I complained and they ditched my call by transferring me to the government marketplace. This is awful.

By far the worst insurance company and customer service I've ever experienced! I moved out of state and canceled my service with them. The representative I first talked to said they would refund me for my last month of service since they couldn't cover me in the state I moved to. Two weeks go by and no refund. I called again and they said they couldn't refund me unless I proved to them I had overlapping insurance with a new company. My new insurance didn't start till the first of the next month so they used that as an excuse to deny my refund. Despite proving that I moved out of state they refused to refund me the $518 I paid them for a service they couldn't provide me any longer. Typical insurance company... all they care about is getting your money! Find a different insurance company and save yourself the headaches!

Do not get this insurance. I got Oscar and it might cost me thousands ,hers why. I woke up at three am sick as a dog and sweating and feeling like I was dying so I called an ambulance and they took me to the nearest hospital. Since I'm 64 years old and I have heart disease and have a stint the heart doctor at the hospital wanted me to spend the night and to take some tests. Turns out Oscar says they won't pay my hospital stay because they said there was no sound medical reason for me to stay the night and have the tests. The doctor at the hospital says I should spend the night. I assume he knows what he's talking about. Was I suppose to not listen to him? They are fine when it comes to regular doctor appointments and prescriptions. However when it comes to emergency and specialty care, the real reason people have insurance, they are a joke. I have been waiting 6 months trying to get my son into a Nephrologist. My son has one kidney and is loosing weight. The only nephrologist in my area is out of network. Oscar says they will pay for it but now it is months later and nothing has changed. They haven’t done what they need to do. I’ve been on the phone with Oscar about this issue 100s of times. They just keep me waiting and running me in circles. They are easy to get ahold of however and their employees are very nice. The company on the other hand needs to get their act together. I’ve never had such a fustrating experience in my life. Their own employees can’t even back up the company on how this is being handled and yet nothing has changed.

Oscar is fabulous. They are helpful when you call with a problem; they participate with the market place; and several times they went to bat for me when providers were trying to over charge me for out of pocket, deductibles, prescription cost and co-insurance. They even helped with an issue with the market place. In each instance they conferenced the other party and we worked through the problem until we got a resolution. Switching for a corporate BCBS plan I now have many other service (especially therapeuric) with Oscar that I didn't with BCBS. I have read many of the reviews. Mostly the 1 & 2 star reviews bottom line issue is either with the market place or the type of plan YOU selected or was available to you that limits you. You can use the filter tab to see if the plan has you doctor before being "stuck with" that plan. As far a premium increase....yes that happened to me because I missed a deadline in submitting my income to the market place. Oscar worked out a payment schedule so I can keep my insurance. Physicians have to become credentialed for insurances and that is a process. If you want your doctor to accept Oscar....JUST ASK THEM TO APPLY TO ACCEPT OSCAR....Oscar is sort of the NEW KID on the block and alot of physicians are sticking with the dinosaur plans for comfort sake.....let them know about OSCAR....I'm sure they would love to keep you as a patient by adding a new network to their practice. In short, MOST of the 1 & 2 STARS ARE NOT AN OSCAR ISSUE but you are putting the blame on a great company; MOST ARE AN EASY FIX with a phone call or by asking the rights questions. Hope this review helped. Sorry so wordy.

I wish I could give a negative rating. The coverage is horrible and it seems that their primary goal is to take your premiums and find ways to deny service. I looked on their site for approved doctors, went to one on their list, and the service was denied saying it was out of network. My son had to have a CT scan and we got it pre-approved but they denied paying it because the service, within an approved facility, was not approved. What a joke. Never use Oscar.

Most of the folks at Oscar are nice. The coverage language is slippery. For example - 'normal' foot care is not covered unless it has to do with diabetes. Apparently, removing a bone from a foot which requires 'normal' anesthesia in a hospital isn’t covered either. Oscar still has not resolved the issue with Anesthesiologist. Apparently the Anesthesiologist is submitting claim incorrectly but Oscar won't tell them how to submit with correct codes. So? I get pay because Oscar won't work this out??

Oscar doesn’t cover anything. Even basic generic drugs I’ve been prescribed. What a joke lol

Like the call a doc option. All my dealings this year have been easy and relatively painless. Just hope I can afford them next year.

I am very happy with Oscar Insurance. You guys are very helpful and fast responding to any questions we have and recently you helped me find a specialist to follow up after I burned myself. It was refreshing to have help and fast help, from an insurance company.

Oscar is an insurance company for the future. Their plans are affordable and incorporates great technology to deliver it. You can use their app to do pretty much everything, from finding a doctor to speaking to a doctor for advice. In addition if you do have to talk to someone, you will get a liver person quickly, and speak to someone that will solve your issue or answer your question. It’s refreshing To have a company like Oscar in the healthcare insurance market, which usually is populated by huge insurance companies that don’t care and you can’t get in touch with. Love Oscar.

I really like the ability to have a phone conversation with a doctor. That feature has been incredibly helpful. I also enjoy the concierge team who help me navigate my medical care. It has been good being able to schedule specialist appointments directly too. So far the price is Ok as well. All that and a critical mass of providers who take Oscar make it great for our family.

I find it very easy to use, and the premiums were more affordable than traditional health insurance which is why I switched. I also can find the specialists that I need in the geographic areas where I work and live.
