Totally terrible company. In Texas there were only 4 endocrinologists listed for San Antonio, a city over 1 million people. One, when called said they were mislabeled and not endos, another only took existing patients. I had a gastric emptying study cancelled twice day before procedure because it was suddenly "private pay", same for a nerve conductivity study and 1 appointment with one of their listed endos. I paid $600 out of pocket for a gastric emptying test out of need, and now? I went to pick up insulin from Walgreens today. Doctors office verified it was a tier 2 preferred drug. I checked Hioscar.com and same thing. Tier 2 preferred are $35 each. Walgreens charged me $100 and $70 and said it was oscar's formula. I call and of course there's no CS after hours, I even posted to the bbb and shocker.... They're not accredited. I can not imagine how people in need are surviving. Such is the greatness of America I

My wife an I are both 57 years old, and bought Oscar plan after selecting it from the marketplace. We pay $1,250 a month for the two of us. The particular plan we selected outlines "free" primary care visits and $50 co-pay for visiting specialists that are in their network. My wife needed to visit an ophthalmologist specializing in retina disorders. We carefully checked and confirmed with Oscar that the doctor is a part of the network. In a month we received a bill from the doctor's office for $136 for services that Oscar didn't cover, that are in addition to $50 co-pay. Spoke with Oscar, and they explained that the procedures were diagnostic in nature and therefore are outside the scope of covered procedures. I suggested to them that going to a specialist is by definition diagnostic, and asked them to give me an example of a reason to go to a specialist so that they would not need to diagnose the issue. Specifically, we suggested that an eye doctor checks eyes using various machines that do not perform and "preventive" procedures. So what is the $50 co-pay intends to cover? They said is it for the office visit. We told them that we went to the doctor, not to the office, and suggested to clarify the scope of covered procedures with an "in the network" specialist, and asked to show to us specific language we should have been aware of when buying insurance that would clearly distinguish between services that are covered and not. Al they kept repeating is that $50 is for the office visit (I suppose there would be a different charge if the doctor would see us in a garage as opposed to an office). And that is all after the humongous monthly premiums!!! Be aware of what you are buying because Oscar's marketing is deceiving!

They are great until you get cancer! I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2015 while I was insured by Oscar Health. My breast surgeon was an in-network provider with privileges at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. At the time, Oscar Health had no plastic surgeon that specialized in breast reconstruction with privileges at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center in their network. In other words, Oscar Health did not have an in-network provider with the appropriate training and experience to meet my needs. As I understand my position as a health care consumer, I have the right to go out-of-network when my health plan does not have an in-network provider suitable for my needs. To that end, on December 15, 2015, my breast surgeon's assistant submitted paper work, and supporting documentation, on my behalf to Oscar Health requesting an out-of-network authorization so that I may see a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast reconstruction, and has privileges at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center. I had breast cancer and this was a timely matter that needed to be handled quickly. In the following days, my surgeon's assistant and I repeatedly called Oscar Health to inquire about the status of my out-of-network request. The customer service agents at Oscar Health frequently put us on hold for long periods of time, and often our calls were disconnected entirely. Repeated requests to speak with a supervisor were declined, and promises were made that a supervisor would return our calls. No supervisor ever called. As the days wore on, I became more and more anxious about the status of my request. I could not move forward with my breast cancer treatment without first consulting with a plastic surgeon who specialized in breast reconstruction. I feared it would be weeks or months before I could move forward with treatment, meanwhile I continued to live with cancer and the uncertainty of my diagnosis. Ultimately, I was compelled to pay $450.00 to consult with a plastic surgeon on December 24, 2015 while I was still covered by Oscar Health. I was desperate to move forward with treatment. To this day, I am still waiting for that authorization and the subsequent reimbursement of part or all of the $450.00 consultation fee. It is fortunate for me that I was able purchase a new health care policy from a different insurance company and move forward with my treatment. I have no doubt that if I were still insured with Oscar Health I would be waiting to receive my out-of-network approval, and I would still be living with cancer. Oscar Health acted negligently, and I venture, unethically, in this matter. I fear for health care consumers who have neither the resources nor faculty to purchase a new policy. They are at the mercy of a negligent company, Oscar Health.

If your not healthy don't use this company! I have an electrical issue with my heart. Only one brand name pill works for me which I have been on for years. I was promised I would be covered and have to pay 60 a month which was fine. Go to refill my pill and they told me it would cost 1800 a month. My dr appealed it, after hours of back and forth and questions. Now they approved my appeal. Once again I go to refill it since its been approved. Now they tell me it's 1,600 a month Bc I will have to pay a Dispense as written penalty! Told me my dr again has to appeal. Basically they are playing games with my HEART pills and my life! Also no eye vision care which who would think to ask? The worst is not being able to get my heart pills to live. Also my EKG HAS BECOME WORSE BC I WAS FORCED ON GENERICS! They lied!!!!! They are still playing games. Who has ever heard of a DAW PENALTY! This has been going on now for 3 months!

We have had Oscar for 9 months, worst insurance ever to find a provider. My wife needed an annual appointment, only appointment available from any reputable provider was 9 months out. There were 2 facilities given after communicating with them for 3 weeks, both are 1 star reviewed facilities. Buyer beware, we are terribly disappointed with this coverage. Stay away...

Can't get them to review and approve prior authorization for mediation. I've been on the same anti seizure mediation for 8 years. Oscar has had the paper work for 10 business days. First I hear 7 business days for review. Now I'm told 15 more days. I will run out before they review this request. Other insurance companies have completed the review within hours of receiving it from my dr.

Avoid Oscar health insurance!! High monthly premiums, high deductible, decline payments of most claims. Customer service is outsourced and I could barely understand what they were saying. When customer service can’t answer a question they just hang up on you. Oscar uses the 3 D method Deny, Delay, Discourage. They use this method to avoid paying claims . If you need health insurance look elsewhere . I’d give Oscar health insurance a 100 negative star rating if that was a choice!

Hard to find in network providers.. every time I went to a doctor I received a bill from an out of network provider, even though it was in network, and I had to call and file a claim. Providers dropped Oscar in the middle of the year so I had to change pediatricians 3 times in a year.

Like most insurance nowadays, Oscar is pretty bad, they will deny most of the claims and will go as far as denying anesthesia coverage for colon screening or refusing to pay for an hospital night stay which has been ordered by the hospital itself. Their coverage goes up significantly every year, the deductible is insane and every claim is a fight to make sure it is covered. They make you believe they are on their customer side but the facts prove otherwise. Do not sign up with Oscar, take your time to find a real insurance coverage.

They were good 3 years ago but not now. I've been trying for over 6 months to get a colonoscopy scheduled, and have given up at this point. They post a list of supposedly in-network gastroenterologists, but I've contacted all of them (I'm in Dallas) and none of them would schedule me. Various reasons, but it's starting to feel like a blatant scam at this point. Fortunately I'm going to a luncheon today sponsored by Humana so I will probably be switching to them when open enrollment begins in a couple of weeks.

This company is very much a SCAM! I received a recent claim on my account for a telephone care service. After a couple of months, they say, "It looks like you received care from a provider outside the Oscar network, so the care you received with them isn't covered by your plan." Now I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS! I used Oscar's own platform to connect with the telecare service. It was OSCAR who matched me with the physician. How come the doctor they matched me with on their platform is out of their network? OSCAR SERIOUSLY FAILED! THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THIS!

I wish I could give zero stars. H Oscar is the worst of the worst, they charge extortionate monthly fees but never pay for any medical care of any kind, they lie outright to you about what they will cover, they send you to sub par doctors for sub par care in dangerous neighborhoods. They are rude and unhelpful when you try to ask questions. I feel traumatized be the entire ordeal. Getting off of this insurance plan at my earliest opportunity.

I honestly do not think they have covered anything since I’ve had them. The premiums were a little less expensive, but there’s not a doctor or dentist that I go to for which they will provide coverage. Coverage on my 2 medications is not available and one of them is for a congenital disease. I cannot find a doctor that they provide coverage for. I’ll be switching come open enrollment.

The main problem with this company is the roster of doctors and facilities in its network, the majority of whom and which are pretty terrible. While administratively Oscar is responsive, unfortunately that can't make up for having to make a choice between mediocre to bad doctors or facilities that illegally try to overcharge with Oscar's inability of do anything about it. My suggestion is to either opt for a PPO or go straight to an HMO like Kaiser. They seem to remain the best. I have been with Oscar this year but I will be switching over to Kaiser next year to avoid any more headaches.

Horrible coverage, and the “concierge team” is a total scam. Expect to be hung up on, spend hours on hold waiting for simple answers that you’ll eventually find yourself. Don’t be surprised when your deductible is $8,000 and they continuously edit out of pocket expenses. Your only doctor will be 100 miles away (I live in a major city). This company is owned by the Ks and it’s definitely a grift. If you enjoy burning money and wasting time on hold, this plan is for you!

I actually thought I was getting a hood healthcare plan but all I got was a place collecting my money and denying benefits for my children getting healthcare check ups and shots which are required by schools. The Healthcare Facility ST Vincent’s Ambulatory Care was a approved facility, but the Doctor they saw wasn’t an approved Dr. Question is when you go to a facility like this you don’t know which Doctor you will get u til they come in to treat you. I was so excited about my new Oscar health insurance plan They seemed progressive, technologically advance and portrayed a culture that was client focused. Portrayed being the optimal word. Good luck trying to actually set up any type of care or real-time talk to someone if there is an issue. I can't wait to get out of there coverage as soon as I am able. Worst insurance I’ve ever dealt with. They said they paid for the two meds I take for diabetes and as soon as I changed insurance and can’t change for a year they said I had to do step therapy on my meds I’ve been in for 4 years and my doctor has written letters. For 6 months they are only paying for 4 dollar drugs from Walmart. I’ve missed 90 days of work, had seizures and fainted several times and they still refuse to pay for anything other than 4 dollar drugs. They now want me to wear a internet monitor to monitor my every move so they can decide what meds I need.

This company is terrible. When I checked to see if my doctors took them, their website said they did. But when I went to use my insurance, half my doctors don't actually take this insurance. What's worse is apparently my pharmacy doesn't even take Oscar insurance because they apparently now have a contract with CVS as their preferred pharmacy, so other pharmacies can't take them. I've never heard of such bs. If I could switch now I would. I am actually considering cancelling for the remainder of the year because I don't know what I'm paying for at this point.

In my 64 years I have never not been covered for a routine mammogram with any of my insurance policies over the decades. Do they not understand the value of preventative care for women? I had to pay out of pocket, and was told Oscar was not accepted for mammograms in Arizona at the facility I have used in the past. Continuity for this screening is important, too. Oscar seems not to be concerned with that, either. This is my first ever review. I would rate zero stars if it were an option.

Cheaper than the other insurance but very few Dr in network and almost no chiropractor. A doctor even told me that he was trying to get approved for 6 month and still nothing from Oscar. Be very careful with surprise bill as well, if you go to the hospital and you see a Dr in network, he should works with other Dr or nurse not in Oscar network (and they are a lot). It was so terrible I canceled the insurance. When I signed up the plan was supposed to pay for my primary care doctor with no copay and I checked my medications to see that they were covered. The reality? I now have a $90 doctor bill, they didn’t cover the primary visit and also they refused to pay for prescriptions. Basically they’re collecting my premiums and paying out zero. I'd recommend any other health insurance over Oscar - the headaches they cause will leave you medicated for life. I got bloodwork done in December of 2020 through Quest which is in network and was told and I have on record from Oscar that this bloodwork would be only a $20 copay. Quest has been billing me random amounts ranging from $100 to $167 for the last 17 months now and each time I reach out to Oscar, they lie to me and say they are taking care of it. SEVENTEEN MONTHS! I got another bill today so I'll write a bad review every time I catch them in a lie.

Oscar is the same or worse than any other health insurance company. They are completely non-responsive in the app, and installed a series of uninformed, discriminatory roadblocks in the approval process for basic supplies, causing a crisis for access to what I need. Pre-authorizations are a joke - they have no plan to actually authorize anything I need. Their "stellar" reputation will rapidly be overshadowed by their mess of a system, uninformed pharmacy reps, and inability to help patients get the care and supplies they need. I'd give zero stars if possible.

I live in Tucson AZ and I spend hours looking for Oscar network providers. Almost no places accept or have heard of this insurance. They also did not update their website, so the few providers that they have do not accept new patients when you call them even though in the web don't indicate the status. The only ones accepting new patients are resident students who and since they do rotations, you can't make appointments with them either within three weeks. I do not recommend this lame insurance. It's very frustrating.

Paying 748.00 a mouth for premiums. This is a prim example of the insurance company's not caring about there customers and only interested in the bottom line.

Overall I am very pleased with Oscar. They have helped with my insurance needs over the past 3 years. Like all private insurance in AZ they are very expensive!

Oscar customer support is pretty good. The rest sucks, I was prescribed the highest dosage of a medication by the Oscar urgent care NP and had an extreme adverse reaction due to her negligence in prescribing the highest dosage. They also “reprocessed” claims for 9 appointments and adjusted the amount I owed for all of them after I had already paid the amount that was processed initially. What a mess. Just take your money elsewhere.

Good except that Oscar doesn't pay for immediate test results when you have a vaginal infection. Making a patient wait 3 days for a diagnosis is ridiculous in this day and age.

Just switched to Oscar to save money this year. My current doc is listed as primary care physician but they denied my claim as out of network. I have gotten an incredible run around about the office address of my doc. Practice has two side by side building and they do not recognize the primary address. My doctors office confirms that they take Oscar but I can no longer go to my primary care physician without worrying about racking up out of network bills. I have never had issues with getting the most basic routine care until Oscar.

Rocky Young ,

Do not be fooled by this company. LOOK at their reviews!! Horrible horrible insurance I’m now paying self pay to see a doctor because OSCAR care is communicating with me with just questions no answers. They just keep shuffling. If I have to explain to some online person my health issues AGAIN only to be asked again and again. I made a major mistake choosing this insurance and now I’m deeply regretting it. Sincerely and honestly Christine Young

I signed up for Oscar in North Carolina, but have had a horrendous experience. I use Bofa's billpay system to pay my monthly premium. They credited my account for the first payment but cashed the checks for the next two but did not credit my account. They demanded that I act as middleman to resolve their back office mistake and when I could not get this done by their deadline, they cancelled my insurance and blamed me for the problem. Do not use this company under any circumstances. They are trying to expand before they get their back office systems ready for prime time.

A prescription that we take daily (generic) was raised from a Tier 1 ($25 copay) to a Tier 3 without explanation or notice. Imagine our surprise when the pharmacy asked for $150 instead of $25. Oscar has no explanation for this change. There is no cheaper substitute since the drug is already a generic. We checked the cost on this drug before we signed up for the plan in October. If we had know they would simply switch the tier in January, we would not have signed up for this plan. Bait and switch?

Stay away from this awful company! Not only are they one of the least accepted insurance companies (none of my doctors accept it) and their plans have exorbitant premiums (even though they tout themselves as being affordable) but their C-level execs are hypocrites as well. Their chief policy & strategy officer is a board member for JUUL Labs, the infamous company responsible for cigarette ads targeting teenagers. How can you trust a HEALTH company with leadership such as that? Read the September 20 NY Times article written about JUUL.

The only real bright sides are that their tech is great and their support is good. They’ve currently rejected 2/2 Covid tests I’ve gotten (which they claim they will pay for, but so far nothing). Rejecting arguably the most essential service in 2020, when you claim to support it in and out of network is an unbelievably frustrating experience, and I’ll be getting off any Oscar insurance ASAP
