As a healthcare provider, we bill Aetna when our patient informs us. Recently billed a claim and received payment from Aetna...BUT.... Aetna is too cheap to include an EOB. So I had to go into Availity to enter specific data to see who this $3000 payment was for. Availity is having problems internally and we can not download or print the EOB. So....we've been sitting on a $3000 check ALL week because we don't know who it belongs to. The Aetna rep's advise was to call Availity. WORST INSURANCE COMPANY EVER !!!!!!

Terrible, terrible, terrible customer service. I have been on the phone for 8 hours trying to get an issue resolved. People either do not speak English and cannot understand my issue, hang up on me, or keep bouncing me around. Some of them tell me one thing, others tell me a different thing. One tells me that a complaint was filed, another tells me there is nothing filed. One sees the notes from previous calls, another tells me there are no notes. Eight hours on the phone and still not issue resolved. Will not be renewing my policy with them.

Aetna has to be the worst health insurance company out there. Their agents continuously gave out false information, made promises they didn't keep and denied, denied, denied coverage, EVEN when they said on the phone something would be covered. Their total lack of care for the client certainly drives one to think, do we really need or want insurance companies anymore.

Absolutely horrible company, I need and MRI for numbness in my leg, foot, and toes, but they denied it, and then they want you and your physician to jump through hoops to appeal the denial, where they will most likely deny you again, the longer they drag it out, they hope you will give up, that puts more money in their pockets! Stay far away from this dastardly company, they are detrimental to your health!

I switch to Aetna because they promised me stuff like $25 monthly for healthy food, $45 for over the counter etc and I didn’t receive one of those things United Health provided it same day I rolled in there program!!! They are so way better and give so much more to there members than any other companies. I am not get paid or anything to say that but if your looking for an insurance as once a Aetna customer to a changed to a way better plan UH dual complete $250 for eye exams$150 for over counter meds and healthy food, free smart watch, and $25 for healthy food

Couldnt have had worse experiences with aetna - I was constantly receiving contradicting info form their health concierges, the appeals process is a joke they literally never accept your appeals, customer service people are the least helpful of any company ive ever called, and you'll get massive surprise bills constantly Couldnt wait until my year with aetna ended

I was previously at Kaiser and had two prescription for acne for 20 dollars. I then moved to Aetna and found out that the same medicine at CVS will need copay of 170 dollars. After a few more phone calls, aetna told me there was nothing they could do but I just had to pay 170. But they are the same medicine. And the cash price of them together in Kaiser are cheaper than the copay in CVS. It doesn't make sense.

When I retired a few years ago. I was given Aetna because I had medicare also. From day 1 it has been nothing but problems and aggravation. So Saturday Jan 8 2022 I go to my doctor. They tell me my insurance is inactive as of 12/31/21. What the hell😠 Call the number they are closed. The Dr calls. No answer. I had to put $95 out of my own pocket for the visit. Someone is going to reimburse me the money. As the screw up as usual is on their end. I hate them for insurance. Worst insurance that I have ever dealt with.

I had an Aetna plan for a year because my employer offered only that and nothing else. It's December 2021, a week before Christmas and I am getting bills for hundreds of dollars from labs for visits that happened in JANUARY 2021 that Aetna apparently reconsidered coverage for and no longer holds itself liable for. I will never ever accept Aetna for medical insurance again, even if employee sponsored. What a disgrace!

Relatively new to Aetna. 8 weeks since I signed up, still have not received basic information as to actual coverage. Some info available online, but site times out before you can find and read specific info. 3 calls to customer service to obtain basic info like evidence of coverage, provider directory, coverage specifics for vision and dental etc. Still waiting....... Very disappointing. If they can't even handle the basics of new enrollment, I can only imagine how poorly the plan might be administered.

To my opinion Aetna is the worse insurance company to deal with. They make sure they are getting paid every week but don't deliver what they have to. I'm paying$80 plus for my husband and I through my employer. Base on the plan we have surgery is completely covered but in May my husband had a surgery, Aetna not only refused to pay, there's no one to talk to. So, now we ended up paying the bills ourselves and Aetna still redraw money from my paycheck every week. Frustrated 😡

Horrible customer service. I have not been with Albertsons Market(former employer and one of Aetna's many accounts) for a year and they kept me on even after my name was removed from the current employees list. Trying to cancel is a royal pain to accomplish. They won't do it upon customer request. The bills are more like you pay in some to Aetna, they pay 60%, and you pay 40%. Don't get diabetes or high blood pressure, this company will bleed you dry.

Aetna has refused to cover a medically necessary surgery on my left hip because I have joint laxity. Even though in their clinical policy bulletin they state it’s not covered if you’ve been diagnosed with EDS which I have not. This is despite the fact that they were going to address the joint laxity as a part of my procedure. My quality of life is terrible And I’ve gone through every step of waiting for this surgery for 8 months as required by Aetna - waiting six months, trying pt, trying an injection. Thank you for absolutely nothing I’ll be switching carriers ASAP.

Recently diagnosed with a life threatening lung condition requiring a CT scan and was denied. After countless weeks and calls I was finally forwarded to the third party group Aetna uses to deny claims. At this point my last resort is a peer to peer from my Surgeon to the third party to justify the cost of life saving test and surgery. Praying for approval before its to late. Stay away from this company at all costs or the cost may be your life.

Aetna Health Insurance is TERRIBLE Insurance. I was forced to take them and give up my UPMC Health Care Coverage, and now I see why. If you have a choice do not choose a Aetna Health Care Plan, you will pay more out of pocket expenses. You will also spend more time on phone trying to resolve issues. It is a bad Insurance option if you have a choice save yourself a huge headache and pick a different plan.

This is a horrible company. I was diagnosed with cancer and after jumping through all their hoops and sending numerous letters, phone calls, and records, they rescinded my insurance after fighting with them for a year. The reasoning for the rescinded insurance was my weight!!! After paying for a year they decide I'm too fat to be on their insurance at the end of my cancer treatments.

They have some really stupid rules not in the contract. For example, in my policy I get 1 free exam per year. They denied my claim last December because it was 8 days before 365 day had passed since my last one! It does not say 1 exam per 365 days. But they don't put that on the denial of the claim.

I paid less per week with Cigna until my employer changed to Aetna. Now I pay more per week for less coverage. I want my old insurance back. Services that were previously covered with no deductible are now at $50 or $70 per visit. I need up to 6 visits per month! How is that even possible??? I pay more and get less??? I have been a member for about a week and that's all it took to give them a 1 star rating because I couldn't give them a negative 1 or ZERO. Don't buy Aetna!!!

Claim manager Trenette H is the worst person to manage anything ! let alone your health care claim. They will constantly deny receiving any documents your doc or you might send them to support your claim .. BUYER BEWARE!

Aetna is the worst Los Angeles, CA

This company has terrible coverage. Bad customer service, don’t empathize with patient at all. Had an insulin pump that broke, and had to resort to lantus insulin. However, Aetna doesn’t cover this medicine because they are not a preferred partner so I had to pay $320 out of pocket. I called customer service which recommended humalog as a replacement. What idiots - completely different type of insulin. Only reason I use this insurance is because it is offered through my school. Can’t wait to drop them.

I wouldn't even give AETNA a full star but half a star isn't an option, this is the worst insurance I have ever had, they reject any and all treatments or procedures needed, and many medications are not covered by aetna owned CVS Caremark. They are making a major profit on premiums because they reject your ability to get the proper healthcare. I recommend Avmed for real health insurance. Aetna is a scam.

1 star is a generous rating. I have had nothing but trouble trying to get Aetna to pay their portion of claims. I always call to discuss and understand the issue and get a different story every call which proves that there are no qualified people handling healthcare claims for Aetna. They never follow up with you like they say they will and if you provide a reference number from a previous call, the Aetna rep conveniently cannot find it. I changed my insurance company on Jan 1 on purpose and will never give this company my business again. Absolutely the worst.

The price went up by 100 dollars and they switched the pharmacy my medication goes to without telling me or my previous pharmacy. I'm so sick of not being able to get my medication when I need it and being in unnecessary pain.

They have made so, so many mistakes over the many, many years that we have been with them that we have to call the head of their claims department to make sure that we get an accurate answer to questions above our coverage. Just in late June, I was once again told wrong by a customer service person....a simple question as to whether or not there would be a co-pay for MRIs when our Illinois state policy renewed in July. Turns out, big surprise, that we were told wrong not only about that, but the mistaken staffer told us that a co-pay would be required for XRays and all diagnostic tests, including laboratory. They truly should be ashamed of how uninformed some of their staff has been over DECADES.

I highly suggest avoiding Aetna at any cost. When my husband's doctor suggested a procedure, we called and spoke to an Aetna representative. He assured us the procedure would be 100% covered. We actually called twice, speaking to two different representatives just to make sure. Both times we were assured the procedure would be covered by Aetna. After the procedure, we began to receive bills from the medical office and doctor. We called and talked to Aetna, and they refused to pay. We wrote letters disputing their initial decision and were eventually forced to escalate the case through their appeals process. It was an extremely long and frustrating process. After many months, we just paid the bill because we were exhausted by the negative feelings it was bringing to our lives. Please, do yourself a favor. Pick any other insurance company.
