During the last few rains they seem to work really well. They are on my barn with sidewall heights of 14 ft so I have yet to climb up and look for debris. Drains to downspouts perfectly as far as I can tell from the ground.

I was told that debris would dry out and fly away and I don’t need gutter cleaning anymore. Debris has built up and not left. Two gutter cleaning companies have told me regardless of leaf filter you still need two annual cleanings. Very disappointing.

While both LeafFilter and Gutter Helmet’s gutter systems perform similarly, there are differences in design that are worth noting.

As noted above, the largest difference between the LeafFilter and Gutter Helmet systems is the use of mesh filter technology to keep debris from entering gutters. Both companies offer products that will effectively keep your gutters clean, but there could be a chance that you may need to replace LeafFilter gutter filters at some point, as they pose a higher risk of becoming clogged themselves. However, the LeafFilter gutter product uses extremely fine mesh that should reduce the need for any maintenance.
The patented LeafFilter gutter product is a filtering system made of 275 micron steel mesh — at 275 microns fine, not even a single grit or pine needle will get through the micromesh. The mesh is combined with a uPVC frame with built-in pitch that will shed debris, as well as structural hangers that are fastened to your fascia board. It’s worth noting that the uPVC material used for the gutter frame also ensures that the frame won’t warp or deteriorate over time due to weather extremes.
Gutter Helmet seeks to provide the most permanent gutter guard solution possible. The Gutter Helmet gutter product varies from LeafFilter’s product by using a debris shedding design instead of a filter. Gutter Helmet includes seven patented features that maintains water flow through gutters while shedding any debris, and the system includes load-bearing supports that are reinforced and anti-corrosive.
In addition to its gutter guard product, Gutter Helmet offers its Helmet Heat® ice reduction system, a self-regulating heat cable that can be installed with your gutter guard to keep snow and ice from building up on the edges of your roof. The Helmet Heat cables can be installed on a new or existing Gutter Helmet, and the cables will be hidden underneath your gutter guard cover, keeping them invisible while also protected. Thus, if you live in a particularly cold climate and/or an area that experiences harsh winters, Gutter Helmet would be a better choice for you.
Neither LeafFilter nor Gutter Helmet provide specific price points for their products. Gutter guard installations will vary depending on house size, existing gutters, etc.; thus, neither company would be able to provide accurate pricing for all customers. Both LeafFilter and Gutter Helmet do offer free estimates, allowing you to receive a more accurate cost estimate for your project, while also providing you with an opportunity to speak with a company representative and ask any questions you may have.
Both LeafFilter and Gutter Helmet provide lifetime warranties with their gutter guard products. Thus, whether you choose LeafFilter or Gutter Helmet, your gutters will be protected from damage for as long as you live in your home.
It’s important to note that the Gutter Helmet lifetime warranty is also transferable, ensuring that, if you should move, the next homeowners retain gutter protection.
While a company’s time in business isn’t necessarily an indicator of a company’s quality, some customers may find greater peace of mind working with a company that has been active in the industry for a longer period of time.
Both LeafFilter and Gutter Helmet have been providing gutter services for decades. However, Gutter Helmet has a longer history in the industry, having been established in 1981. LeafFilter was established in 2005.
On BestCompany.com, LeafFilter currently has upwards of 1,500 reviews, whereas Gutter Helmet doesn’t currently have any customer reviews. Thus, we’re unable to provide an accurate comparison of these gutter companies based on customer sentiment at this time.
However, it’s worth highlighting the fact that 91 percent of LeafFilter reviews are 4 or 5 stars. Satisfied LeafFilter customers are quick to highlight the effectiveness of the LeafFilter product, as well as how quick and efficient the installation process is. Based on these reviews, LeafFilter could be a good choice for your gutter guard needs.
Based on the products and services available, we would recommend either LeafFilter or Gutter Helmet for your gutter guard needs. Both companies are leading names in the industry, and both companies promise effective gutter guards that will keep your gutters clog-free.
We're on a mission to empower consumers to make the best decisions and connect confidently with companies that deserve their business.
