The Good

  • Easy-to-Understand Vehicle Service Contracts
  • Extensive FAQ
  • Additional Protection Products

Easy-to-Understand Vehicle Service Contracts

Ally’s website shows each plan side by side to explain what it covers, providing a clear comparison and contrast. There are three different types of plans under Ally Premier Protection:

  • The Basic Guard covers the engine; transmission, transaxle, and transfer case; front and rear-wheel-drive component; and fuel delivery components. The Basic Guard plan is Ally's powertrain warranty.
  • The Value Guard covers everything the Basic Guard service contract does, plus heating and air conditions components; suspension; electrical, computer, and audio components; steering component; and braking system components.
  • The Major Guard covers everything in the first two plans, but adds coverage on engine cooling component, high-tech components, and safety components.

Ally also offers a Flex Coverage vehicle service contract. Ally Flex Coverage offers exclusionary warranty coverage, which means that it covers all car parts except those listed in the contract. It includes additional benefits, like roadside assistance, trip interruption, and rental car or alternative transportation reimbursement. Trip interruption and rental car reimbursement are available when your car is in a repair facility for a covered repair.

Ally Flex Coverage also offers a 60-day money-back guarantee and 18-month financing with no interest. The zero percent interest feature is especially nice for those who plan to make a monthly payment for their warranty coverage.

Extensive FAQ

Keeping customers and their concerns in mind, Ally’s website has an extensive FAQ section. Under the FAQ, people visiting the site can learn about general auto warranty information as well as specific information about Ally vehicle protection.

Additional Protection Products

While Ally provides several options within its Premier Auto Protection, the company also gives other options to its customers, such as Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP). GAP protects cars that have been totaled. Insurance doesn’t always cover the full amount individuals may owe on their car, so GAP covers the additional cost. If you totaled a car which you had not paid off, GAP would cover the amount that insurance does not, essentially waiving the debt on the car.

Ally also covers leased cars through the SmartLease Protect plan, which takes care of lease-end fees for extra wear and mileage.

The Bad

  • Pricing from Dealer
  • Customer Support
  • Doesn't Cover Everything

Pricing from Dealer

While inconvenient, many companies in the auto warranty industry do not give quotes, whether on their website or even over the phone; they require clients to go to a car dealership to receive that pricing. This may be because car dealerships know the specifics of each vehicle. Regardless, having to work with both a dealership and an auto warranty company is enough of a hassle to dissuade some individuals from working with that company. This could be the case with Ally, since visiting a dealership for the quote is a requirement.

Customer Support

Ally’s customer support leaves a little to be desired. For its auto services, only a phone number is provided, and that phone number is available at limited times. Ally does provide the option for a live chat, but individuals must have an account with Ally that allows them to log in. To email Ally, you must also log in, so unless you are already a customer with Ally, you may have a difficult time reaching a representative.

Doesn't Cover Everything

An Ally extended warranty only covers repairs that meet the specifications in the contract. As with most warranty companies, an Ally car warranty only recovers repairs related to mechanical breakdown. Coverage for a repair may not be available if it resulted from poor maintenance, normal wear and tear, or an accident. Be sure that your car receives regular oil changes to ensure that your extended car warranty is not voided. Otherwise, you'll have to deal with the repair costs on your own.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Ally Premier Protection extended warranties are a great option for people who want coverage options. Ally offers coverage for all types of cars, whether they be new cars, used cars, and even rental cars. However, if you are looking into Ally, you may have a hard time reaching the company, which may make it not as positive an option as some other warranty companies.

Im a service advisor at a car repair facility and want to warn folks this is the WORST warranty you can buy, they send junk motors, dont respond for days/weeks at a time, and delay payment. Every step of the way keeps your car out of your hands longer with this company.

This is by far the best warranty I've owned on a used vehicle. The finance guy told me its the old GMPP so it's been the go to warranty for GM for a long time. I have this warranty for my 2018 GMC Canyon and it just paid for a new transmission. No hassle at all. I will say the dealer was a little backed up to get me in for service, but as soon as it was in to be diagnosed they got approval from the warranty and ordered the transmission. I had a loaner vehicle and it was fixed three days later! I paid a $100 deductible and am back on the road. So thankful for this warranty because it has saved me $4K in just a year, I still have 3 years left!

I have Ally premier protection Essential Guard plan . Transmission went out on my 2017 Ford escape that I have own a year. Wetzel auto is recommending a NEW Transmission. As used ones are notorious for going out. Ally policy does allow used parts however given the faults of these Transmissions it is not recommended to use used. Ally refuses to allow a new one be used. So I will soon be in the same boat and my policy will have expired at that point. I now have no choice but to sell this vehicle. It's been a nightmare owning it.

I don't get the low rating. I am the Finance Director of a large Chevrolet dealership in Arizona for 17 years, and this warranty is practically flawless. Not only does Major Guard do exactly what it says it will, I have even got Ally to do repairs for customers that have mildly gone beyond their expiration. I have it for myself, my wife and my daughter also. Anybody that complains is just someone wanting everything for free!! Probably wear items and maintenance, or just don't maintain their vehicle. The only drawback is that the claims office closes for the weekend, that's it. I stumbled on this comparing Major Guard to an AMT warranty for a customer and had to say something. This policy is the REAL DEAL.

Ally was excellent, they covered everything everytime. One time they sent out their estimator to check the car because the repair bill was $6000 but they were great. I'm now with endurance and after the first claim I'm about to cancel. They don't wanna cover but a portion of the repair bill. First bill was $3200 they covered $1200! Don't get endurance despite their rating online they suck

I got Ally Premier Protection included when I financed my 2013 Honda Accord. The car's starter went bad and I took the vehicle to a Honda specialist in town. I told him I had an extended service warranty through Ally and he immediately told me if he got the run-around from them he would just hang up, as he had dealt with other companies and knew it would be a hassle to deal with them. He called Ally to make the claim and after waiting over 30 minutes for an agent to answer, he hung up and called me, saying he didn't have the time to wait any longer for them because he had other cars to fix. I told him I would see what I can do, so I called Ally's claim number and was on hold over 20 minutes waiting for an agent. I told the agent, who by the way was helpful and did what he could to help, that my mechanic was not able to wait over 30 minutes to talk with someone to file a claim. I asked the agent if it would be alright if I put my mechanic on a 3 way call to get the process started filing a claim and the agent agreed. After listening to the two go back and forth setting up the claim, my mechanic was obviously frustrated with the agent, and the process on how he was going to get his money from them. The agent said it is usually a 24 hour turn around to get paid. After a 13 minute call with the agent, and another 30+ minutes waiting for someone to answer, Ally needs other options to make a claim. The customer service is slow and the process is tedious to say the least. A day later I picked up my car and my mechanic said he was still waiting for the email from Ally to get paid. I paid my $200 deductible plus taxes and got my car.

I bought a car from a used car dealership that offered a warranty and gap insurance which I got both. My son totaled the car and got arrested for a DWI. They refuse to pay the gap because he got arrested but has not been convicted of the charge. They also had me cancel the warranty which cost $2900 which was a little over year and they only refunded $267. I would never ever recommend Ally for any services. They like to rip people off.

I have premium coverage and had to have engine replaced, they replaced the engine but have been fighting me on trip interruption since the day it happened now going on two and a half months, I live in Mississippi and was in Pennsylvania when the motor went out and I had to stay four extra nights simply because Alley dropped the ball on a rental car, gave me a reservation number to pick one up but never sent the email to enterprise to secure the rental, long story short, they guarantee 750.00 trip interruption and only want to pay 600.00, it cost 600.00 just for motels for four days not including meals and other expenses, then after a month of waiting on the motor to be installed I had to fly someone up to PA to pick my car up, I have over 2800.00 in a breakdown only asking for the 750 they guarantee and they don’t want to pay the full amount, I’ll update this if they pay me the 750 but if not I’ll add to it and tell some phone conversations I had with some of their employees that will probably make you think twice about using them!!! Absolutely terrible to get ahold of. No online access, long wait times, short hours, no desire to help if an error is made. Let me elaborate; I'd purchased a vehicle nearly a year ago, which was supposed to be the Major Guard coverage (this one IS supposed to cover everything). Turns out, there was a mistake. I had a claim, it was denied because my coverage, despite what I was told I was buying, was NOT Major Guard. Ally didn't make any effort to rectify this. Again, this has been ongoing for nearly a year, and I have the dealer involved at this point. Ally will not make exceptions in the face of an error that is not on the customer's side. They will not simply change the coverage, you have to jump through hoops. In short, they will not make it right. If you find yourself in this situation, just go to the dealer and pray they care enough to push Ally to correct the issue at hand. Otherwise, you're in for a long, hard journey unless you relent and pay out of pocket for something you were told would be covered. Make 100% sure before you walk out of the office at the dealer that what you bought is what you were told you were buying in regard to the level of coverage your warranty provides, because Ally wants your money, not your praise or satisfaction.

My car went in for repair on a clutch after purchasing the vehicle two months ago. Ally approved the repair and only had to pay the deduction as well as the cost of a clutch that was not covered . My car took a day to repair. Left it on a Friday, was ready on a Tuesday. However went down to the dealer to pay and pick up my car and was told they could not give me the car until Ally paid them. However they collected my portion of the cost. They told me to wait for a phone call to pick up my car when they recieved the check from Ally. Three weeks as of today and still no car to pick up. Countless phone calls to the dealer and same song same dance. Haven't received the check, we will call you. I have to use other means to get to work. Terrible service from Ally.

***DO NOT PURCHASE*** Don’t waste your money, I purchased this iced of trash warranty and now I’m having problems with the car and they are denying the claim, mind you, it is covered under the policy. I had my car towed to the dealership because the engine light is blinking and not be able to drive over 30mph, they crappy adjuster went out there and stated that there was nothing wrong LIES, the mechanic clearly stated that it’s the engine and they still denied the claim. WHAT A PIECE OF TRASH!! The car shop had my car for 3 weeks and they only paid for a rental for 2days TRASH! If I could them a zero I would! Even the mechanics doesn’t like to the with Ally. I hate I purchased this warranty! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Have green Paint along the side of my van from passenger side sliding door to rear panel. We have all their protection plans, including cosmetic repair. They have refused to provide service to paint this. Believe this was somehow caused by the high winds in the area . When we bought this plan was told we would be covered from bumper to bumper. Would not recommend this company Plus the fact that after I submitted my claim they were supposed to get back to me in 3 days. They did not kept calling for a week & a half , leaving messages they never replied to. Then received an email saying they would not cover this

If I could give them negative stars I would. NEVER PURCHASE A WARRANTY FROM THEM. Husband paid $3000 for warranty and when something went wrong it took 16 days for them to come take a look at it. Once they did the person who looked at it (not a mechanic just a claims guy) put their two cents in and wrote what they thought was wrong with the car. Ford fought with this guy for over 30 min. Now we are paying out of pocket for an unnecessary engine build down just to prove what the mechanic already knew. It’ll probably take another month before we get anywhere with them. Happy Holidays to you too Ally!!

I purchased there best plan from the dealer and was told I could take it to any registered auto repair shop. After my 1st long road trip I was delighted to see that shocks where covered. The 2012 Chevy van I purchased with only 11K miles had excessive bounce and sway especially on the highway and in windy conditions. After calling Ally who tried to say it was a pre-existing condition and I needed to bring it back to the dealer (now 200+ miles away) I took it to the closest Chevy dealership. After it sat there for a day then I got a call to say the shocks where not leaking and they would not take the time to video how many times it bounces up and down so they did nothing. A wasted day to drop it off and get a ride to pick it up. So I just purchased 2 sets of Monroe's and had them installed at my local repair shop. Now apparently a month after I submitted my bills online they now want a "diagnosis" and a better filled out receipt. Apparently the shop dudnt include my Vin # when I dropped it off. You would think I could just send them a dated picture of the odometer and the newly installed shocks with my Licence plate in it . No they wouldnt make it that easy. 3000 miles later the stealer dealer charges me $350 for a $5 vacuum line that's a wear Item and not covered. I decided its better to take my chances and pull my policy money out of them then have to argue with them everytime something breaks.

I have a 2015 Ford Escape, about 2 weeks ago an alert came on "transmission fault service soon" I took it to the shop he said he would change to fluid but it may be the transmission. So I drove the car after the service and this time the transmission alert came on and the solid check engine light. I took it to a 3 shops that specializes in transmissions all said the same thing New Transmission. The shop I went to cleared the lights. I was told the adjuster came out and found nothing wrong with my car. even though the codes were say it was 2 solenoids that was failing. I went and picked my car up and again both alerts came on within 10 mins on the freeway. For almost 2 years I have given ALLY $145.00 a month for them to tell me there is nothing wrong with my car and that I should drive it with these alerts on. I drive 76 miles a night to get to work, why is it ok for my transmission to go completely out on me in the middle of the night while I'm driving alone? I am not asking for a free ride I am only asking for the service that I paid for. I notice that most of the 5 star reviews are from people that have not needed Ally to fix their car or it's the dealership that sales this crap. I have spent $500 in car rental fees so far when I called Ally, they put me on hold and then hung up.

There are many things in life that I would rather do other than deal with something that I pre-pay to be handled. I chose the Major Guard top notch policy with Ally Auto when I purchased my vehicle. There have been a couple of times where they held their end up, even with a transmission change (took 16 days to figure out). I have taken the time to dissect the issues I had with the shop and the issues I had with Ally Auto. After having doing that, I still come to the conclusion that the Ally Auto is absolutely not worth for principle reasons. I experienced two sore issues that were overbearing that I will explain. The first one basically comes down to the roadside service (included in my Major Guard policy- one of the reasons I chose the premium policy.) I had a battery blow up in my jeep with my child in the car and was on the side of the road, did everything I was supposed to according to my policy and FOUR hours later (after having called several times where my roadside assistance was) I called for a final time to be told "oh, we must have forgot to call you and tell you that the person we "sunt" out to you cancelled their trip." I was sick to my stomach. Second time was a transmission that was faulty that they took their time on to get moving on my claim then had to audacity to tell me "we gave you two extra rental days." After it was all said and done I ended up paying too much out of pocket ($319) for rental fees that I was promised would be reimbursed. Nothing was resolved with either issue, especially not customer satisfaction that I LITERALLY HAD TO PAY FOR. Eager to accumulate money and constituents on a car for extended warranty, but not eager to follow up with their sides of the policy. I will no longer be conducting business once this warranty runs out and will highly instruct my loved ones to do the same.

I am at the mercy of the warranty adjuster who I can not contact per company policy. Took my jeep in to the dealer for a vibration. Dealer recommended replacing the transfer-case and needed approval from the Ally adjuster. The adjuster denied the recommended repair and opted to rebuild the transfer-case. Jeep has been in the shop for over a month and parts are on back order with no estimated time of delivery. Dealer has requested several times to replace the transfer-case; which is available, only to be denied. Dealer has done their part Ally has not. I have contacted Ally only to be told to have the dealer call them. I can not get any information on who the adjuster is or a process to get resolution. As the owner of the warranty you have zero recourse when a repair parts are not available. I would like to know why this is being denied. Any cost savings have been lost with the month long loaner vehicle. Customer service reps are friendly but just following a script. Very frustrating shell game. Horrible company do not waste your money on this product. Can't imagine how much worse this would be at an independent garage.

Has a customer service that is VERY HARD TO REACH! Tried to call for days only to finally get through to them and they tell me that they cannot cover something as little as a door handle. This warranty is NOT as it was described. While taking a car full of kids to their baseball game in Bryant Arkansas my car handle literally flew off of my car and I had NO IDEA what it was that flew off until I got to the ball park. My mother in law was driving behind me because she didn't know her way to the park and she saw something fly off of my car as well. When we arrived at the ballpark and I went to let the kids out...I realized it was my door handle. So I called 1 800 631 5590 to make a claim and have it repaired and they told me that unless I had my car handle that they could not help me. This is crazy!!! #1, I had no idea what it was that just flew off of my car. #2, even if I would have realized it, I wouldn't have risked my kids life nor mine to try and find it on an interstate and #3, if their wasn't something wrong with it, it would have just flown off the car in the first place. I asked them to let me bring the car in because maybe they can look inside the door and see what was wrong but the guy just refused and said their was nothing they could do! This is worthless insurance to argue over such a thing as a door handle that there is NO WAY I could have in my possession. People don't need to waste their money on this insurance.

In 2016 my wife and I purchased a 2016 Dodge Ram truck. When we purchased the truck we bought an extended warranty through Ally Premier Protection Major GUARD at the dealership for our vehicle which was a total of $1802.00 with tax. It stated it expired at 10000 miles or 60 months. The first 36 months or 36000 miles on the vehicle was covered under the manufactures warranty and Ally would not have covered any repairs during that time, as it was under manufacturer warranty. We cancelled the policy in October which would have been less than 3 months that it was not covered under the manufacturers warranty and we never used the warranty at all. We would like to know how that it cost $1200.00 for 3 months coverage? We received a refund of only $602.00 for that 3 months ALLY would have actually covered the vehicle . We would like to say that we will never deal with Ally in any capacity again nor will we ever recommend Ally to anyone. Your very dissatisfied customers, Marilyn & Steve

A waste of money! Bought a 2016 Jeep Patriot from the dealer, that was left over lot car. It had 8 thousand miles on it. Bought the extended warranty including road Hazzard for the tires. I have had the Jeep for 9 months now and on my lunch break came out to my car with two flat tires on the passenger side. Had it towed to nearest Jeep dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong with them but kept it overnight to see if they went flat again. At work the next day the dealership told me they were flat due to being bald. Told me I needed new tires. Even bald tires hold air! I have driven the Jeep for less than 20 thousand miles..they were not bald. Then they said I must have hit a curb. I did not. Then the final story from the service department was they were dry rotted. So of course my warranty does not cover dry rot. Like I said, I have had it for 9 months and drive it to work everyday and I must have hit something in the construction on the highway to work. And due to dealership lies my warranty is not covering the cost of new tires. Both front and rear tires were damaged from the road. Not worth the price of warranty I paid to not cover what they promise. Dissatisfied with both the warranty and the dealership for not standing by the contract.

Days after the purchase on my new vehicle, I noticed that there were embedded (in the finish) fingerprints on the door panels that are not able to be wiped off. I submitted a claim to get this fixed and was rejected due to lack of "cause." This protection is a joke - they did not even speak to me about the issue before making the decision. What good is a paint/finish protection plan if they don't cover paint/finish issues.

These guys are crooks. They took advantage of my son who bought a $3000 warranty, and would not pay for repairs when the car broke. The car was leaking transmission fluid because a switch was loose. It cost us almost $400 to fix the switch, replace a gasket and washer, plus labor. They wouldn’t pay any of it because they claimed, “the transmission switch is not really broken, just loose” The car was not drivable !!!!!!

Shortly after buying my vehicle (2016 Hyundai Santa Fe), I had to replace the front & back breaks and paid out of pocket because Ally Protection Plan doesn't cover it. Ally Auto Gap Total Loss Dept will drag out your claim for about 3 months then while you are still making payments will low ball you payoff balance any still make you liable for the balance owed. So be aware GAP coverage with Ally doesn’t guarantee your loan will be paid off.

Extremely difficult to work with. They make the shops jump through an unbelievable amount of hoops on every repair to get approved along with only covering a very limited amount of the repair plus requiring the customer to pay a deductible making repairs under $500 not even close to worth it.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I canceled the extended warranty and was told I would get the check on 3 different dates. The check never came. I have called them 7 times with each call lasting a minimum of 45 minutes. It's been 2 1/2 months and I still havent recieved the check. WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!

Great insurance if your car has higher miles. I have used them for several of my cars and they have paid out claims when I have needed them to!

Good warranty if your car has higher miles. No complaints from me. Thank you for covering the claims that were submitted on my behalf.

Worst customer service that I have ever experienced. I paid good money up front to receive ZERO service. Save your money and do not purchase.
