The Good

  • Remodel Options
  • Complete Project Management
  • Quality Guarantee
  • Knowledge Center

Remodel Options

Sears has a large span of product offerings and several options within each category. The company offers customization, purchase, and installation of the following:

  • Countertop material (solid surface, granite, and quartz)
  • Countertop edges (beveled, eased, full bullnose, half bullnose, and ogee)
  • Flooring (tile, laminate, and vinyl)
  • Cabinets (door styles, colors, and hardware)
  • Tubs and showers (whirlpool tubs, jetted tubs, and shower pans)
  • Toilets (standard height and comfort height)
  • Accessories (towel bars, towel rings, and robe hooks)

Many of the other bathroom remodel companies we review only offer tub and shower remodeling. Sears' option to completely remodel your whole bathroom is unique.

Complete Project Management

Sears Home Services assigns a dedicated project coordinator to each remodeling project, which minimizes the chances of miscommunication between company and customer. The project coordinator handles all aspects of the job: remodeling ideas, obtaining permits, ordering materials, and arranging for installation. You begin your remodel with Sears by requesting a free in-home design consultation in which a design consultant comes over to help you plan the remodel, considering factors such as your budget, style, and scheduling.

Quality Guarantee

The company installs products from Delta, Kohler, Moen, and Panasonic. These brands and materials have an average of 25+ years of durability. The warranties of each product and aspect of the remodel vary in length, but each is covered with a written product limited warranty and a written labor limited warranty. Installations are further covered with property damage insurance, workers compensation protection, and public liability protection.

Knowledge Center

Sears shows it cares about customer preparation and education by providing resources to prospective customers. Helpful resources include a quiz called “How Prepared Are You for a Home Improvement Project, Remodel, or Interior Design?” as well as curations of top bathroom remodel ideas for each year, kid-friendly bathroom design ideas, and other useful things to consider when preparing for the remodeling process.

The Bad

  • Returns and Exchanges

Returns and Exchanges

While Sears does guarantee satisfaction with its products and services, there is a limit to how far the company will go to ensure this. Custom-made orders, including cabinetry and countertops, may not be returned for credit or refund (even prior to installation). Any installed or built-in merchandise is not eligible for a return or exchange, except in rare cases. In these exceptions, the customer must pay all installation and de-installation charges plus a restocking fee and freight charge.

The Bottom Line

Sears Home Services is a top competitor in the bathroom remodel industry thanks to its quality materials, installation services, coverage across all states, and project management efficiency. Plus, the company offers promotions for a remodel above a certain dollar amount in addition to flexible payment options. Sears is a contractor that will help you remodel your entire bathroom (including the toilet, cabinets, countertop, and accessories), not just the shower or bath. This company is definitely worth considering for a complete or partial bathroom remodel.

Do not use Sears for a bathroom remodel! 5 years later, i find that the drain was not installed straight in my shower or with the proper gaskets. This leak killed my furnace ($450) and a plumber to fix the drain ($400). Buyer beware!

HORRIBLE experience with SEARS HOME SERVICES Paid $177.95 for nothing. This was the cost for the diagnostic. I had a problem in my refrigerator freezer. The tech came to my home for 5 minutes and did the diagnostic test: Parts (Switch) $83, Labor $405.95, Total after taxes and all things $494.93. We have to change a switch, that's all. When I asked the tech why the labor is so high, he told me that it is the Sears list of prices. Can you believe 500 dollars to change a switch? They would be ashamed to charge $83 for a part that it is even cheaper at Amazon and 406 DOLLARS IN LABOR. I will never use Sears Home Services again, they just charge me for doing nothing.

NEGATIVE 10 : I have been shuffled around by 21 people and no one has had the knowledge or know what to do with my situation. It is unbelievable! I am with a home warranty company. They contacted Sears and sent them to fix my washing machine. Michael came out, piddled a little with our washer and ordered parts. He left after hanging around my house, on his phone for one hour. He could have left after 15 min. The parts came, Michael came back, wrong parts. Had to order other parts. Was supposed to come back and never showed. I called my home warranty company and asked them to offer the job to another company. They told me they typically do not do this but after hearing my story they sent another company. They came in, laughed at the parts Michael ordered and I quote, " If he bothered to look inside, he would have seen these parts are incorrect." This company ordered the correct parts, came back and fixed my washer (within 4 days). Michael stretched my washer fixing for 3 weeks. I was billed by Sears. Talked to a woman who called me and asked why I hadn't paid my bill. I told her my story and she was going to deal with it. SHE DID NOT. Next I get a letter saying this is my last before being sent to collections. I called the good old Sears 1-800 number and they shuffled me around as mentioned before with NO results. I finally contacted headquarters and spoke to a gentleman, gave him the EXACT same information I gave to the 21 other people who conveniently could not find my name or my contract claim. This gentleman took my information, put me on hold for 3 minutes and came back saying it was taken care of and would not be sent to claims. He also gave me my Michael ID number in case I want to file a complaint, WELL, I have a claims letter in front of me as I type. It was NOT taken care of, I had to pay so as to not ruin my credit. SOOOOO, I now want my refund ASAP. This company DID NOT provide a service nor fixed my machine. I am beyond upset and will take legal actions if not responded to and send me guarantee information that this has been This company has such inept service representatives that only have in a small box knowledge of problems that need further help and Sears truly needs an overhaul. Sears used to have a good name, now I cringe when I hear someone say Sears. Tip for consumers: RUN, RUN,RUN they are not worth it, even if they come in lower, they are horrible

Sears Home Services will make your life miserable. You wait, and wait and wait for a tech to show up because the schedulers are idiots. They even frustrate the Techs. The schedulers have the techs running from one side of town to the other and back. Do yourself a big favor, don't use them if you can help it.

Don't waste your time with Sears. I scheduled them, they gave me a 4 hour window and never showed up. Not even a call. They called me back 2 days later wanting to reschedule
