Reviewers also trust their State Farm agent. Some positive reviews comment on the fairness of rates. Other positive reviews mention switching to another auto insurance company for a lower rate.

Because State Farm has earned high praise from customer reviews for its auto coverage, it has our recommendation.

Good Coverage Options

State Farm offers excellent coverage with its car insurance policies. You can include the following types of coverage in your insurance plan:

  • Collision coverage
  • Comprehensive coverage
  • Liability coverage (bodily injury and property damage)
  • Personal liability umbrella coverage (beyond bodily injury and property damage)
  • Car rental and travel expenses coverage
  • Rental car coverage (repays up to $500 of the deductible expense if you have an accident in a rental car)
  • Uninsured motor vehicle coverage

Rideshare Insurance

If you drive for a company like Uber or Lyft, you can add rideshare driver insurance coverage to your personal auto policy.

This rideshare coverage add-on covers all the insurance gaps you have as a rideshare driver. This additional protection allows you to have the coverage you need whenever you drive.

Policies for Antique and Classic Cars

State Farm stands out from other insurers because it offers policies for antique and classic cars.

To qualify for this kind of auto insurance policy, your car must be at least 10 years old, be in good condition or in restoration, stored in an enclosed building, and have limited use.

You can purchase liability, medical payments or no fault, comprehensive, collision, uninsured motor vehicle, and underinsured motor vehicle coverage. You can also add emergency roadside service to your policy.

Commercial Auto Insurance

If driving is part of your business, you'll like the commercial auto insurance policies.

State Farm's business auto insurance policies can include bodily injury liability, property damage liability, personal injury or medical payments, collision, comprehensive, and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.

The Bad

  • No Quote Comparison Available
  • May Not Be Available in Mexico

No Quote Comparison Available

State Farm sells its own car insurance policies. If you want to compare quotes from multiple insurers online, you'll need to work with each one directly or use a comparison site. This lack of quote comparison can be inconvenient if you're in the first shopping phase.

However, State Farm is a trusted insurer, has excellent policies, and offers many types of discounts, so you're likely to find a cost-effective insurance policy.

May Not Be Available in Mexico

Some car insurers sell policies that work in Mexico. These policies are important if you plan to drive your car in Mexico. Since State Farm doesn't mention a policy like this on its site, you probably need to find another company if you plan to drive in Mexico.

gavel

The Bottom Line

State Farm is an excellent choice for car insurance. It has a strong reputation and offers many different kinds of coverage. With all of these options, you'll find the coverage you need for your car.

You may need to look for another company if you plan to drive in Mexico. However, rideshare drivers, businesses, and people with classic or antique cars benefit from State Farm car insurance that is geared to cover gaps and meet specific needs.

You'll also benefit from the many discounts that State Farm offers policyholders. These discounts will help you be a better driver and save money.

They said one payment bounced then they tell me that the house insurance that I thought I had thru them I don’t have house insurance. I was told my rate monthly would stay about the same since I was taking a bechike off and adding the house insurance on But it stayed the same even tho I took a vechile off. Then they say that they didn’t know I moved well if I got house insurance through you wouldn’t I have anew addresse which was given to them when I got my house insurance or thought I got my house insurance. Now they say I owe them $400+ dollars. No I’m getting someone else and I don’t recommend them to anyone that wants insurance at a decent rate and if u want insurance that u put ur trust in to do what they say they r going to do.

I was recently forced from the road by a driver and the State Farm company refused to press that issue when they decided to pay the claim by the person with whom I collided. I have good reason to believe that the decision of the other party to turn right, even though they had a left-turn signal on, was the proximate cause of that collision. State Farm's corporate office disagreed, even though I had a witness in the car with me. I did not have comprehensive/collision coverage; however, had State Farm chosen to even call my witness they might have determined them at fault rather than believing the claims of the party with whom I collided. They did not, they only had the COMPANY'S bottom line at heart, not their customers. I will from now on refuse to consider State Farm for my auto coverage.

I was with State Farm for many years, had all of my children on it as they got older as well. About ten years ago I was hit as a pedestrian by a car. I had the little pedestrian light to go and everything. I had to be rushed to the hospital and have had major leg and back issues all of these years. State Farm was both of our insurances. It took years in courts, and I didn't receive what I needed. My work requires me to be physically capable, and I was not able to work for a long time because of this wreck. I lost the home I built with my wife and raised my children in because of this wreck. When State Farm decided that I didn't deserve the help I needed to put my life back together after this person hit me with their vehicle, I decided it was time to move on. I would never recommend anyone use them.

Worse insurance ever. They lied when they sold me insurance in person and then ignored my calls when I had to file a claim. Years after I cancelled it, they refused to remove me from their mailing list and kept sending letters to my old address so strangers can open it. Their customer service was impossible. They didn't allow me to speak to a representative unless I put my zip code and then they would always transfer me to the person who cheated me the first time.

My wife totaled her car and the process we had to go through was a huge hassle. no one knew what was going on at our local agent and we are still out money for damages to cargo that was in the vehicle. Ive had other companies and all I did was make one phone call and everything was taken care of. with state farm it was like we had to hold their hand through each step and make sure they followed through.

The agency on Marconi Ave in Sacramento. tried to call to set up to new policy for three vehicles and set up info before my wife arrived near closing time, she transferred me to another girl because it was going to be too close to closing time for her. She, the next girl couldn'tdit because she had to leave at 5:00 and wanted to schedule an appointment for tomorrow. Does anyone want to help us..?

I have a claim number and called the number I was given. Auto telephone system on hold for at least 10 min. When I get to talk to a rep. How may I help you? I ask what the process was to get my car fixed. How may I help you. Are you new? No Takes all my information again. It had already been given to State Farm by the policy holder. I could not even get simple ? answered. For example What do I need to do to get my car fixed? Horrible Horrible.

Twice I have been in accidents with State Farm customers. Once when I was also a customer of theirs. Rather than "charge" the other, at fault, client with the accident, they had each customer use their own deductible. Then they raised my rates. I changed insurance companies. Several years later, I was pulling out of a parking lot when a State Farm client hit a patch of ice and slid into my car. But, when submitted to insurance, State Farm said that because I was pulling out of a parking lot while the other car was on the road, I was at fault. Even though the other driver was speeding and admitted to sliding on the ice. They refused to pay the claim. I'd grind glass with my teeth before having State Farm Auto Insurance.

We have been with State Farm for over 30 years. Auto, home, renters, etc. Recently they decided to drop us because of some activity on our account even though several family members are accident and ticket free. They also botched a claim where our vehicle was hit by someone who ran a red light, even though we had witness reports. The claim was divided 50/50 and they said we could sue in civil court but there was nothing they could do. The agent (Darrin L) was off the scene and when we finally tracked him down he was late for our meeting and no help at all. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed and do not recommend them. After 30 years of taking our money, when it came time to pay out they dropped us!!

I was in an accident with someone who had State Farm Insurance. Both the other driver and the police report stated that it was the other driver's fault. State Farm simply stated that they were not going to cover my damage, only their customer's damage. I spoke with a lawyer and he told me that this was how State Farm works. They say that they won't pay on many of their claims under $1,000 to $2,000. If you hire a lawyer, they pay quickly, but it's a huge hassle to get a lawyer and pay for their service. State Farm seems to know that so most people simply give in and take care of the damages themselves. In the meantime, State Farm walks away from the claim paying nothing to the person who is not their customer. I don't know how true that is for everyone, but I knew it was true with me and the lawyer I spoke with backed me up on this. I once had State Farm but will never go back when there are so many other more trustworthy companies to work with.

Absolutely outrageous fraudulent insurance company, when it comes to paying the claim, they will do anything in their power to diminish the value of your case, using the third party to appraise your vehicle and after that say, we can do nothing about it, it's not us, we are the good guys but so poor and destitute.,

State Farm continually charged my family way more than they told us the car insurance was going to cost. Due to this, they owed my family money and never gave us the money back that they owed us. We eventually left as they would not drop their prices below car insurance from other companies.

We pay them $500 a month and they don't take the time to know who their paying clients are. Also didn't fight for us when we were hit by an uninsured vehicle. We found out years later they have attorneys for such occasions. Would have been great knowing at the time instead of being stuck with the deductible to get the car fixed.

We used to have State Farm and they really hurt my family. My husband was involved in a major accident. State Farm didn't represent us like they should have because they had interests on both sides. I really regret not getting a lawyer more involved. I would not recommend State Farm to anyone.

To high of prices! When you get in a wreak, your agent doesn’t help at all, and they run your monthly prices up on any accidents that aren’t even your fault if the other person doesn’t have insurance! Like we do I have to pay more because someone without insurance hits me! No thanks! They were my insurance company for years until I became an adult with brains! Really don’t like Fred B in Monticello MS! Wouldn’t suggest to anyone!

Mile limit of 7,500 per year. Any claim results in increased premiums. Man ran into my daughter's car in a parking lot, claimed it was my daughter's fault since she sustained injuries.

I cancelled my policy for a better rate from a competitor. State Farm issued me a refund check in the form of a joint check (instead of just to me, the primary policy holder), made out to me and my 2 children. They refused to reissue it to just me. It's an extreme hassle trying to cash it. I will NEVER do business with State Farm again.

They messed with my bill during the pandemic and suddenly I was months behind with no explanation other than well we gave you a break that month thats why nothing was on your account to pay. To me that's crap so because of that a few times of my multi policy discount falling off I was done with them.
