Vonage vs Nextiva

McCall Martin
McCall Martin | Senior Editor
Vonage and Nextiva both offer state-of-the-art VoIP services and technology. Vonage offers pricing that starts at $14.99 per user for 20–99 users per month along with residential plans. Nextiva’s prices range from $20–$30 per user per month. If you need more than 100 lines, you will be asked to contact the sales team at Vonage. While Nextiva requires you to contact the company for enterprise-level services, there is not a cap on the number of users listed.

Love the price on calling out of the country. It took them a while to get us set up but know that it is I love it.

I have been with Vonage since 2014. I am ready to leave. Their customer service has diminished greatly. The lines dropped a lot. Then they want to nick and dime you for features. Their billing is not consistent. You pay one price and you look up the next month and it does not match the price on your invoice. They outsourced the customer service call center it is impossible to get someone on the phone even before the pandemic

Our IT firm has worked with just about all the VoIP companies in Canada and the US and clients always rate Nextiva as their ISP of choice, because of the prices, service and excellent support. Nextiva’s FAX service is consistent and reliable.

Unreliable and bad customer service!! I had Nextiva's virtual fax service and I had several clients fax me docs that I did never received using Nextiva. When I called Nextiva to complain they sent me a test fax that always went through so they denied it was their fault - but it continued to happen at random. When I did receive faxes - sometimes I received them an hour or more after the client sent them. When I cancelled my service they refused to give me a refund for the time of the service i pre-paid for but did not use.

The Final Word

In the basic package provided by Vonage, features include unlimited calling and SMS messages within the United States and Canada, a mobile app, a desktop app, VonageFlow, and several other features. This plan also requires a mobile device.

Nextiva offers similar features in its basic plan and takes pride in its ability to manage prospects and service customers. All Nextiva plans include 24/7 service and tech support and 99.999 percent uptime reliability. Businesses can bring their own VoIP phones or have the option to rent or purchase them from Nextiva.

Vonage caters to medium size companies and residential services while Nextiva focuses on serving business and enterprise-level communication needs. Neither VoIP provider requires a contract but offer annual savings if you choose to sign up for a yearly contract.

Choosing between the two providers depends on what your needs are. If you are looking for VoIP communication for a small business or even your home, then Vonage is the best option for you. For enterprise-level VoIP communication, Nextiva will be able to provide the level of support your company will need. Nextiva also allows your plan to grow with your business. If your small business is gaining traction, then you might want to consider Nextiva for your VoIP phone needs.
