The Good

  • Yearly Allowance
  • Discounts on Additional Services
  • Specialty Lenses Available

Yearly Allowance

Humana offers a yearly allowance towards frames and contact lenses. This includes designer brands. While the allowance is only $100 on frames, after you hit the allowance, you get 20 percent off the remaining amount. Humana is one of the few providers that offers a discount on top of its allowance.

Discounts on Additional Services

Humana also offers discounts on additional services such as Lasik or PRK. These discounts can be obtained by contacting the company prior to the procedure. However, it’s important to make sure the provider is within your network, as that is a requirement for obtaining the discount.

Specialty Lenses Available

Humana offers options for specialty lenses in addition to standard lenses. The specialty lenses include, but aren’t limited to, progressive bifocals, anti-scratch, and tinted lenses.

The Bad

  • Enrollment Fee

Enrollment Fee

Humana charges a $35 enrollment fee, which is one of the highest in the industry. This is something to keep in mind when looking into initial costs. The company's benefits may help to offset this, but the upfront cost is still higher. It’s also worth noting that the $35 is waived if you purchase dental and vision together.

The Bottom Line

Humana is a fantastic option if you’re looking for a reputable vision insurance company. With its massive network and variety of benefits, it provides solid all-around value for vision insurance.

Humana has the best coverage for the best rates on vision insurance. They are also accepted everywhere. I love the flexibility in which stores accept this insurance. Overall, I get brand names at low costs using Humana for vision insurance.

I loved Humana when I had it! I know there are better insurance companies out there but this is a happy medium! It was cheap and very simple to schedule appointments! I also thought their customer service was 10/10.

They provide an either or option for glasses and contact. I got the contacts and they were free. Customer service is honestly a hit or miss. There is a wide variety of providers you can go to, such as Target Optical, Sears Optical, and JCPenny Optical.

Humana's customer service is absolutely horrible. It is virtually impossible to reach a representative and when you do you're lucky if they speak fluent English. Their automated phone system is the worst I've encountered in 50 years!

Humana is a cost effective service provider for vision insurance coverage. They are helpful and their insurance is accepted most everywhere. I find that they have saved me a ton of money on prescriptions and new lenses.

So far I have not had any problems and in fact, I was able to get very discounted designer prescription glasses at my optic store. Great coverage.
