UnitedHealthcare (UHC) works with healthcare professionals throughout the United States to help people get access to quality healthcare at an affordable price. UnitedHealth Group’s workforce includes 85,000 clinical professionals who are continually focused on improving the lives of those around them.
UHC is dedicated to simplifying the healthcare industry. The company provides global health care benefits to individuals, employers, and Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
When choosing a vision plan with UHC, patients can expect a clear description of the plan and its benefits, extensive provider access and choice, and convenient customer service.
UnitedHealthcare offers two vision plans that allow patients flexibility and no waiting periods. Patients choose the coverage they need from UHC's two vision plans: Plan A (glasses or contacts) or Plan B (glasses and contacts).
Patients do have the flexibility to use non-network providers but will get the best coverage through the vision network. For example, an eye exam from a network provider will only cost $10. At a non-network provider, UHC will pay up to $50, but the patient pays the rest of the billed charges.
UnitedHealthcare offers vision plans for people of any age. The vision plans have no age requirements — however, the primary insured must be at least 18 years or older — and are renewable for life.
UHC members also can get a 20 percent to 40 percent discount on popular lens options (progressives, tints, etc.) and discounts on extra pairs of eyewear. Additionally, vision plan members may also purchase a high-quality digital hearing at a discounted price over retail.
Although laser eye surgery isn’t covered, patients have access to discounted laser vision correction procedures through the Laser Vision Network of America.
UHC offers patients the ability to buy vision insurance as a standalone plan, but the provider also allows patients to add a vision insurance rider to their dental plan.
Depending on the state, certain state-specific benefits, exclusions, and limitations may apply. For example, there are no state variations in Alabama, but California has several.
If you’re looking for a vision insurance provider, UnitedHealthcare is an excellent option. The provider has a vast network that includes both private and retail practice locations, which makes it easy for patients to choose the optometrist of their choice. Additionally, patients get several discounts for extra sets of eyewear, laser vision correction, premium hearing aids, and popular lenses.
It is important to keep in mind that the plans may vary depending on the state. Patients should do some research and find out all of the state-specific benefits, exclusions, and limitations before making a final decision.
