Tax Defense Network vs Community Tax

McCall Martin | Senior Editor

At first glance, Tax Defense Network (TDN) and Community Tax have similar offerings. Both offer great tax relief services and tax preparation. Both employ CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys, and both have helped thousands of taxpayers find relief from their debts.

The two companies also have the same average cost of services (around $2,500 to $3,000), but their pricing structures are slightly different. Tax Defense Network charges a flat rate for its services, while Community Tax determines how much customers will pay based on the amount of debt owed, total years of unfiled taxes, and which resolution programs clients qualify for.

As for key differences, Tax Defense Network requires its clients to have a minimum of $5,000 in tax debt before they can use its services, while Community Tax requires only at least $3,000. These are both fairly low for the industry.

Tax Defense Network has been in business for about three years longer than Community Tax. This is a small difference, but in general, longevity in the tax relief industry is preferred, as it indicates more experience and expertise with dealing with the IRS and resolving tax debt.

Both companies are impressive and worth considering if you need tax debt relief or help with other tax-related matters. Read on to learn more about the details of each company and where each one beats out the other.

I was told by Tax Defense Network that I was currently non collectable and am permanently living off SSDI. I now have a lien against me. Threatening letters from IRS. Paid entire bill up front. And now this company won’t answer my calls. Don’t know what I can do now?

After considerable due diligence I selected Community Tax to help reach a resolution with the IRS in a relatively large matter. They reached a completely satisfactory agreement. We have been very satisfied with their level of service, their expertise, and their communication. They kept in touch and reported back to us regularly without prompting. The matter is now resolved. Our thanks to Demetria W and the others on our assigned team. It is such a pleasure these days to deal with people who do what they say they will do. Highest possible rating.

The Final Word

Company Experience and Expertise (Winner: Tax Defense Network)

Tax Defense Network has been in business a few years longer than Community Tax. TDN also employs tax analysts and accredited tax advisors, in addition to the standard lineup of CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys. These additional experts are advantageous, especially for clients with particular tax problems.

On its website, Tax Defense Network also offers one of the most helpful FAQ sections we've seen for a tax relief company. We recommend using this helpful resource if you are in the research phase of finding the right tax relief option for you or your business.

User Experience (Winner: Community Tax)

User experience includes things such as ease of website use, quality of service provided by the company, and overall likelihood of customers to recommend the company after using it.

While we generally find Tax Defense Network’s website easier to navigate and more informational, Community Tax ranks higher for quality of service and overall likelihood of customers to recommend it, which is why it is the winner of this category.

Small Business Help (Winner: Tax Defense Network)

Tax Defense Network has a large section of its website and services dedicated to providing help to small businesses with any tax-related matters. While Community Tax may offer these services as well, it is not as clear on its website about the specific help it can offer small businesses, which is why TDN wins this category for us.

State Availability (Winner: Community Tax)

Community Tax is available in all 50 states (though we don’t know how many physical locations it offers), while Tax Defense Network operates physical locations in around 30 states.

Cost (Winner: Tie)

As mentioned previously, TDN and Community Tax end up charging very similar amounts for their services, though their pricing structures vary a bit. The cost of debt relief services can be difficult to predict, and we recommend consulting with a professional from the company you are considering to get the most accurate estimate of how much you will pay for your tax relief help.

Tax Defense Network or Community Tax: Which Is Better?

These two companies are both ranked highly on our site for a reason. Customers have generally very positive experiences with both companies and have reasons they would recommend either company’s services.

Overall, we are slightly more impressed with Tax Defense Network. With over 2,500 customer reviews and a four-star rating, TDN is a clear leader in the tax relief field. It has a user-friendly website and a helpful FAQ section. Tax Defense Network also offers services specifically helpful to small businesses with tax issues or needs.

Community Tax is also a top-rated company and is available across the country to help you find tax relief. Ultimately, while we generally recommend TDN, we also suggest scheduling a free consultation with both of these top companies and use the information you glean from those consultations to help you make the best decision for your individual tax situation.
