Vudu is an online movie and TV streaming service owned by Walmart and has been around for over ten years. Its main business stems from digital streaming, providing even more entertainment options to consumers. Vudu is compatible with a service called UltraViolet, a service for storing and accessing digital copies of DVDs. Vudu is an on-demand subscription-free video streaming service.

No Monthly Subscription

With Vudu, you only pay for what you watch. There are no subscriptions and no late fees. You can choose which movies to rent or buy and also have the option of buying TV series by the episode or by the season. This absence of a monthly subscription is attractive to those who only want to watch a few things and don't feel like they would get their money's worth out of a monthly subscription. 

Free Content

Vudu offers a library of free content that you can watch without an account. Some titles stay free, and others are swapped each week. These TV shows and films are supported by short ads throughout. However, the quality is good and the ads are minimal. All paid streaming through Vudu is ad free.

Watch New Releases

Vudu claims movies will be available the same day they are released on DVD. This is a huge advantage over Netflix, at which you have to wait 28 days after a movie is released before it's available. Vudu boasts a large media library of over 15,000 movies and 2,000 TV series. Movies are available to rent in standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) options such as HDX and UHD. For some movie options, SD and HD are the same price, but for most the HD version is a dollar more. 

Easily Save Your Movies Online

Vudu is now compliant with UltraViolet, meaning any DVDs or Blu-ray discs cleared by studios for digital distribution can be uploaded to the cloud and watched through Vudu. This makes a digital copy of your movie that you can watch from anywhere and keep for forever. Expensive Rental Prices

Services like Netflix or HuluPlus cost only $7.99 per month for unlimited viewing while just one movie on Vudu could cost you $4.99, and a TV episode will run you a couple dollars. If you want to just watch one film, you can buy it from other websites. Vudu does not provide rental options for live TV like sports or news. 

Charged Per Upload to UltraViolet

As we mentioned before, you can upload any UltraViolet movies you've purchased to Vudu. However, Vudu will charge you for each movie that you upload (between $2-$5).

If you are watching Vudu like you would use an unlimited streaming service like Netflix or Hulu, it will get pretty pricey. However, if you want to use vudu to purchase a few select movies or films, it could be a perfect video streaming option for you. Many only use Vudu for its free library of content.

With Vudu, you get access to a wide selection of movies and TV shows, and most important of all, you get them as fast as possible. Their customer service is apathetic to say the least. You'll get an automated response and that is it. "Unavailable on this device" on three different browsers. Just don't bother with these people. Back in the day this was really convenient, not so anymore. Find something else.

If I could give zero stars, it would be too much. We cannot access the movies we've already purchased. Note; this is 135 to date. We cannot get assistance to access said movies, because "our browser is not accessible". What about Microsoft Bing is "not accessible"? Or are you idiots?! And then I tried Google...and still got a "not accessible" response. And am being told, responses to concerns can't be given outside of "business hours". Really? You couldn't be bothered to have a call center in the Philippines. or Hong Kong, or India? Wow. Not happy, and currently not impressed. The ball is in your court, Vudu....care to respond?

If I could give a negative number that would be ideal. My father has been using Vudu for sometime now he purchased many movies before moving to Mexico and while living in Mexico for his first four weeks was able to watch and purchase movies in Mexico through a VPN. After around four weeks the service stopped completely and won’t even let him put in a password. So now he is out around $400 for movies purchased that he no longer has access to through no fault of his own. Upon contacting customer service chat agent I was curt and short and he was never helpful only said he couldn’t help me without any explanations as to why the service worked for almost 4 weeks and then promptly ended the chat, essentially hanging up on a customer after telling me in all caps that there was no monthly fee(yelling by modern standards), which I admit I was unaware of as it is apparently the only streaming service to do so. I have posted screen shots to pissedcustomer.com to be reviewed.

Hard to believe that a title that I used dozens of times to test new surround sound equipment with, suddenly got dropped from my account. They, like other irresponsible companies blame the customer. "A movie cannot be dropped without the customer initiating it". Hmmm...I don't have access to any systems to get at the data, and I sure as heck would not call in to have a movie deleted. You'd have to really dislike that movie. They said it would be looked into, investigated. They came back and said to check the filters. "Is a common occurrence?" I've never used the filters once. But I was a good boy, and checked anyhow - thought maybe there might be a software glitch. Well, no glitch and no credit was issued. Ironically, I see this story repeated in other 1-2 star reviews of customers who have had the same happen to them. Apparently, Vudu is not paying their IT people enough, and maybe angry employees go around deleting customer data, or they don't want to work tickets reporting fraudulent activity. Why was THIS movie dropped? Anything to do with the fact that most email providers delete emails after a certain amount of time? I have receipts of my other purchases dating back 3 years, but not 4. What a coincidence. Looks like you use this service at your own risk - buyer beware. I am moving on to other streaming movie service providers, I'm done with these clowns.

Vudu has terrible customer service. When you have suggested improvements to the service they blow you off. I suggested a reset button for within each title that you own so you can reset it to an "unwatched" status and start over once you have finished. That was 6 years ago and nothing. After joying with Fandango, I asked if they would move the "upgrade" button to the end of the menu rather than the beginning. That has been months and in both occasions, they acted as if I "the customer" was being unreasonable. I don't understand this hostility toward the "end user" and the complete lack of quality customer service. I'm now looking for a better option to watch all my UV Movies and TV shows. I hate VUDU now and I used to love it when it was the only thing out there. They just do NOT care about you.

I have not had a worse experience renting a movie.. I bought shin Godzilla about 4 days ago. The app told me that I had 30 days to watch it and once I started to watch it that would leave 7 days left on the movie. The movie now has 2 days left and I never even attempted to watch it. Now coming back to today, I tried watching the movie for hours. I reset my wifi, hardwired it, checked my ping and did a ton of research just to find out it’s one of the worst sites to rent or buy movies on. This leave a bad taste in my mouth after seeing how many people went through the same thing. It doesn’t matter if it’s HDX HD or SD; the movie buffers and never lets me see it to begin with. I wish I could leave a 0 star rating for this terrible service...

This company is complete TRASH! Their customer service is a complete joke, they are the clown car of streaming apps! Their customer service agents are untrained, unprofessional, degens that couldn't care less about any issues your having! If you're extremely lucky, you can get the agent that not only gives zero F***** about your issues, he's equally unconcerned with his screaming ass kids in the background that you get to listen to, while he's playing xbox, pretending to listen to your streaming issue! And this was the SUPERVISOR!! LMFAO!! Save your money, do NOT shop with the SOUP KITCHEN of streaming apps!!

My experience with VUDU has been weeks and weeks of dissatisfaction with their storage cloud services. I have complained to the BBB and FTC about their tactics. My daughter who is disabled uses VUDU as her primary source of entertainment. She is unable to complete day to day tasks but enjoys watching her collection of movies immensely. In July she called me at work that VUDU had deleted over 300 of her titles, Some she had on that cloud service since 2013. As her guardian for over 30 years and her mother I was outraged that they could do this without any notification. I have sent emails for weeks which they no longer bother to respond. My next step may be to file a Class action Suit against VUDU with the Department of disabilities attorneys.

it took me almost 2 hours to cancel my Vudu membership and it was horrible, first of all I could not understand what the person was saying on the other side of the phone and I gave him my credit card number hopefully my card doesn't gets any unauthorized charges on it, then after everything was done he gives me a number with a confirmation number to complete the transaction and it doesn't work this is joke. i'm very very unsatisfied with Vudo never again will I get a Vudo membership. For the second time, I'm sending you another notice that another company withdrew money from my account "again" just because I trusted some on the phone from your customer service that in order to cancel my subscription i needed to give him my card number and this is wrong I will never trust some one one the phone again learned my lesson.

Bait and switch movie list. Offers certain videos FREE WITH COMMERCIALS, but when I got there, despite the movie that was listed as free with commercials in both my Roku search AND Vudu's search/movie lineup--when I clicked on the movie to watch it, I was only offered the option of buy or rent, NO free view free with commercials. I despise such tactics and despite their having some movies actually free with commercials, because they advertised the ONE I wanted to watch (which brought me TO THEIR CHANNEL) as free with commercials, but was NOT--I removed Vudu from my channel lineup and will not give them another chance. Don't bait and switch me!

I am very disappointed with VUDU's customer service, I have been a loyal customer for about 6 years and owner 100's of movies but I have been trying to reset my password to update my payment method for 4 days now and never received an email from them. I then called customer service to have them help with a password reset for 35 minutes, and they told me there was nothing they could do and that I should continue to wait for a password reset email. So if this isn't fixed withing the next 8 hours, I guess its on to Apple TV and Itunes for me, if I cant buy movies on VUDU because of a lack of customer service and technology. Apple's password recovery works great with an ounce of difficultly!

Let me start by saying I loved vudu at one time. I was able to put our movie codes into it for easy access to stuff on the go and I was able to buy and rent movies easily. Now, this was a total of 62 movies total on my vudu account when all was good and then turned horrible. One day I just couldn't login. I called. Because it turned out my account was taken over by someone else. I was told I'd hear back in 5 days after review. I had them delete my billing information in the meantime. I had to keep calling back because I never heard from them. Two weeks in and still no resolution. I was able to verify all the billing information and card number used on the account and still no help. Three weeks and four weeks and still nothing. And they say it has to be submitted up to the top tier because they are the only ones who can make decisions based on payments. And still nothing. And they tell you that you cannot speak with the top tier people and the top tier people will only email you when they are ready. Still. Nothing. And now I have lost the ability to access my 62 movies that I paid for and can prove but it doesn't matter. And they can't change anything because the person who called and changed the account to their name has all the billing information too. A complete and utter mess and they said I could despute the charges with my bank to then have the account locked and never accessed. They actually told me that would be what would happen. So I'd only recover the money for the movies I purchased through vudu and none of the digital copies out in. And even then they said they could not guarantee that since I did admit to buying the movies when I was speaking with them on the phone. Completely horrible customer and managerial services from vudu. How hard is it to see a person used their card to purchase movies and say okay this is who the movies belong to. It's not rocket science and shouldn't be that complicated. They do not take care of their customers and their customer's private account information and they get out of it by citing they have "policies" in place that create these so called rules. Do not recommend you ever use them. It may be great for awhile but the moment an issue arises where you need to call them for help... you will be left feeling robbed and helpless. It's a horrible feeling and they don't care. That's the worst part. You know they could do the right thing but they choose not to.

They are terrible to loyal customers that spent a lot of money renting and purchasing movies/shows. When asked for a refund on ONE movie out of many they refused because we watched 30 minutes instead of 20. Use a different company.

I took a picture of my Child’s Play DVD barcode to upload so that I could have a digital copy in my VUDU library. It costs $2.00, and I’ve used the feature numerous times without a problem. Except this time, it actually redeemed some 1978 movie also named Child’s Play. I figured no problem, I’m sure they will refund me, or maybe upload the movie I wanted. Nope. Customer service asked for a picture of my DVD, like they were going ti fix the problem, but they did nothing. Horrible customer service.

Started out awesome, now it’s complete garbage. I have over 350 movies (many of which have just ‘disappeared’ from my account) that I paid full price (ie bought) for. The app doesn’t load, movies go missing, you can’t download movies for offline viewing any longer. The service is horrendous. There are so many better options available that are more reliable than Vudu. I wouldn’t walk from Vudu, I’d run. This company should be class actioned and criminally investigated for fraudulent business practices.

Absolutely horrible service. Confusing, overly complicated to rent a movie. Plus, they charged me then didn’t give me access to watch the movie that I rented. And to add insult to injury when I requested a refund they said I needed to create an account which I had already done I just gave up. It wasn’t worth the four bucks of hell of dealing with these guys. Never again.

I purchased a BluRay which included the Vudu digital download of the movie. Vudu has made changes, branching from Walmart. When purchasing a couple movies recently I saw that my other movie is not in my account. I reached out and was told they had no record. I provided the email receipt (record) and followed up numerous times. They have not responded nor restored my movie purchase. That was over a month ago. Poor service. I regret my recent purchase. I could have used any service for the same price.

Vudu's update to Roku streaming devices disabled kids mode and your set pin to allow any unauthorized purchases on that device. They know about the problem, they have known about the problem, and they are not planning on doing anything about the problem. Take this review with time stamp to a lawyer if it happens to you and get your money back. USE LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE OTHER THAN VUDU!

This company literally had the worst customer service I've ever experienced. My significant other and I have been trying to take our credit card information off the site, but there's no way for you to do it manually. You have to do it over the phone or through email, which is ridiculous in itself. We were on hold for about 10 minutes, and once we finally got someone to help they had us wait for another 40 minutes and he hasn't said another word. Their customer service is absolutely awful.

I own around 200 4K movies I have purchased from Vudu. But now all my movies I try to watch will buffer/play/buffer. This not acceptable. Months ago you could stream without buffering, but now it's every 4K movie. Maybe since Movies EveryWhere & Fandango merged?? Don't purchase anything from them until they get their equipment up to date & speed. None of my other TV Apps have this problem. My 250mbps broadband is connected via ethernet to the TV's, & computers.

This app sucks honestly, I’ve never left a review for anything I’ve ever used, bought, etc. I can’t watch more than 7mins of any movie on this app, it’s literally gotten so bad I’ve timed it lol! I’m lucky to get about 5mins and 30seconds before I have to restart the app because it can’t buffer the movie. My wifi is amazing I know that for a fact. But this app is completely trash. 10/10 would not recommend to anybody! free apps are 10x better than this.

Horrible customer service. FandangoNow merged with vudu and a Christmas movie I had purchased in 2018 wasn’t in my account. Instead some random movie was there instead. I sent in a support ticket. No response for two weeks. I finally called - ended up emailing proof of purchase. Was told my “case” would be escalated and it could take a few weeks to resolve. It’s December 12. Pretty sure I and my kids wont be looking to watch Christmas Story in a few weeks. Will never purchase another streamable movie from vudu. Avoid if you can. Google, Amazon, etc. are all better options.

False advertisement! Went to watch how the grinch stole christmas and it says vudu offers it for free and when you click on the app, it changes to rent or buy. Highly disappointed! When I called customer service, the lady said there was nothing she could do about it. Well I'm sorry but there should be something you can do especially when you advertise it as free!

If I could leave zero stars, I would. My daughter received two free movie codes from her Chick-fil-A meals. We followed all of the steps, but the system kept saying they were not valid codes. I emailed Vudu on 9-17-21 hoping for a solution for my daughter. On 10-29-21, I recieved a reply back that they are sorry for the delay, but now the codes are expired, as of 10-01-21, so there is nothing they can do. They were not expired when we encountered the problem, but now, over a month later, they are and VUDU will not honor the movie rentals.

I bought Ghost World on Vudu. When I tried to watch it I got a message saying that the movie wouldn't load. When I attempted to talk to Vudu's customer service department about the problem I was switched to another rep who hung up on me. I tried again and was told that since I bought the movie the price had gone up and if I wanted to watch it I would have to rebuy it at the higher price. Vudu has the ethics of a Texas politician.

Wish there was a no star option. Rented a movie last night and wanted to finish it tonight but was told I had to re-rent the movie at full rental price. This is ridiculous as all the other venues give us 48 hours . This is predatory policy and now it is becoming clear why this operation is in disarray. You and I both would do better to stay with Amazon and Netflix, providers that actually sell a service and is not a rip off. When and if they rip you off be sure to contest the fee with your card company.

Terrible company! Scammy and do not live up to their promises. I have been talking to their support via email since August (it is now december)... and they wont give me my $20 credit (I have two codes that have $10 each on them, and although there is no expiration, they are not working...) But VUDU has put me through the ringer trying to prove the validity of my $20. I have shown them so much proof and they just keep closing the ticket on me. Cant recommend enough to skip engaging with this company!

I had a $40 credit to use through Vudu after I bought a Samsung tablet. I bought 1 movie and was saving the remaining balance to use for a movie coming out soon. I went into my account less than 2 months later and my $28 credit was gone. I called customer service and they said that my credit expired after 30 days. I did not read anywhere that my credit would expire in 30 days. So they did absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. I have spent money on movies with them since I have been a customer of theirs for several years. I will not give this company another cent. See ya Vudu!

Vudu customer service is the worst ever. If you have Vudu codes that fail, they will not research any check on the issuer or from the company that the title originates from. They fail to honor their own codes or even get titles wrong for the code you are issued. Trying to deal with their customer service is like talking to an empty hole in the ground, you get no where.

For the first four years of using Vudu I loved it just knew that no matter where I go I can watch my movies that I have paid for. Today was a sad day because now I have to give them a 1 star and I wish I could give them zero. My husband is serving in the United States Navy and we were just moved to Guam. It is not stated anywhere that if you are still in the US but not main land that your rights to your own movies are gone. I'm very upset about this and hope that Vudu can either fix this problem or at least tell people that they are screwed while serving their country.

Would give them zero if I could. I received a Vudu movie as a gift and I can't even redeem it unless I give them my credit card information. I don't feel comfortable giving my credit card information to a company who has already had their system breached before. I would much rather just buy gift cards and used those but after repeated emails with Vudu customer support there was nothing they could do for me.

I was double charged for one movie and and then charged for another. Never got the movies. I emailed customer service 10 times over the course of two months. they never resolved, called me a liar even though I screenshot my bank statement showing the proof. I eventually had to go through my bank for fraudulent charges and then Vudu cancelled my whole account basically making my account a 500 dollar lose for 18 dollars in charges. Beware, never buy or rent anything from them they will basically ignore you and be disrespectful. I only asked for a refund or the items I paid for.

Completely unable to sign into my account transferred over from Flixster (with whom I never had any issues at all). Support took way longer to get back to me and were completely unhelpful. Thus, all my movies are completely inaccessible and all I get after resetting my password for the tenth time is “login failure.” So frustrating! If I could give this company zero stars I would.

Every single device I have ever tried to watch Vudu from, be it a laptop, PS4, a smart tv, or a blue ray player, has had to buffer constantly while watching anything. It doesn’t seem to matter what town I’m in either. I spend more time watching it buffer than I do watching the show. Not to mention that you can only have it on 8 devices at a time. It would make much more sense if you could only have so many streams from the same account at the same time.

I was not given enough time to watch, 24 hours too short, missed out due to power outage. Prime costs the same but has 48 hours and customer service. VUDU is owned by that evil Wallmart so of course there is no customer service. sent them an email about missing what i paid for andno reply, will not rent from them again.

Vudu is the worst for streaming movies. It's always stopping and can't enjoy a movie. If a movie is 2 hrs it takes you 4.5 hours to watch it. My signal is good and no reason can my internet find any issues. Will not be renting any more movies from them.

Incredibly disappointed. Automatically links your payment information from Walmart so when my 1 year old son was just clicking on our tv remote he purchased a rental of the movie. Asked for a refund and was told that they didn't do that. There are much better options out there than VUDU. Cannot recommend them in any way.

Awful! They charged my sister four times for a movie she already owns. Her kids thought they were watching the movie. Customer service refused to reimburse the money for a movie they owned! Plus they've tried to removed their bank information but it Vudu won't let it be deleted.

Repeatedly, I try to access Vudu... using the codes I get with dvds I purchase. Most of the time I cannot get those codes to work and consequently, I have nothing good to say about Vudu. In fact, I think Vudu is nothing but hoodoo...! I have no use for this supposed 'service'. I think it sucks!

Horrible streaming & customer service. I should have just pulled out an old scratched up DVD to watch...it would have played better than anything I've tried to stream through Vudu. Whenever I've tried to contact them for assistance I get no reply.

Terrible customer service. They can't resolve any technical issues and they never get back to you. I have to call 4 or 5 times to resolve technical issues, Especially purchased movies that won't download anymore!

This company is a complete scam. The customer service is non existent. There are hidden charges everywhere and it’s perhaps the worst company I’ve ever had the displeasure of having to deal with. Avoid like the plague.

Rented Adam’s family for my daughter, after 60 min the movie wouldn’t play, kept interrupting and then would play one more minute and start spinning again. Very disappointed

We were watching a movie we had rented and halfway through the time expired and we had to rent it again. I think as long as you start the movie within the time you should be able to finish it.

Cant find many of our movies unless we search specifically for the. Vudu changed gene's and has been messed up for over a year. Customer service doesnt care as once you start wigh ghem YOU ARE STUCK WITH THEM

What good is a great movie when it is unable to continue to stream. Everytime a commercial hits. The movie or tv show is unable to return. I have to retry several times. Vudu is disappointing.
