The Bad

  • Filtering Options

Filtering Options

Unlike most real estate sites, Berkshire does not have advanced search features. Your search options go by city name or zip code. This does not allow you to get really specific about what kind of home you're looking for, nor does it allow you to filter the kind of community you want to live in, or find a home in proximity to a particular school district or commute distance to work.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Berkshire Hathaway provides easy-to-use tools for patrons to understand not only the properties available, but the long-term effects of real estate purchase as well. Their website connects buyers and sellers to agents effectively. Overall, they are a solid choice to consider when looking for an agent, property, or general real estate advice. If you're a home buyer or seller, Berkshire doesn't have the best filters to help you narrow your search the way some other websites do. For what Berkshire offers, they're not the only game in town. Their services can be found with other competitors, so if you find, for example, an agent whose commission is too high, you can feel secure knowing Berkshire Hathaway is not the only option.

Dealing with most real estate agents is confusing, but Vinnie L was outstanding! I could contact him anytime for him to completely answer my questions and calm my fears. Pleasant, knowledgeable, and tenacious would best describe him and his team. I am blessed to have had him working with me to sell my home! Even after the sale, I can call him my friend today.

Betsy was honestly incredible. I immediately felt comfortable with her. She was friendly, warm, chatty, AND knowledgeable about every step in the process. Every question we asked, she either had the answer immediately or she found the answer quickly. She was very responsive, and we always felt like she had our backs. We could not have asked for a better realtor to handle the purchase of our new home and the sale of our old one. She made an anxiety-inducing process much less stressful just by holding our hands and walking us through it.

Awesome, super-great, unbelievably wonderful experience with David M from BHHS Clearwater office! My family is SO grateful to David, I do not have enough words to say it. David was instrumental for helping us buy 2 homes in Tampa Bay area in the last year, in this competitive seller's market. He tirelessly worked with us days and nights, literally! He guided and advised us on every step and on every detail, he always offered options to solve all obstacles along the entire process, he did more than any other real estate agent I've worked with (and I did try quite a few over the years). Positive attitude, super friendly, we felt comforted during crunch times with him, he is a lot more than our agent, he is our trustworthy friend! Very important to mention that we bought properties from out of state... I could say we bought them from behind the desk, only with his help! I cannot say how many times he tweaked the home search engines to give us meaningful results of properties to fit our needs, and the countless times he facetimed us to show the houses we selected online... He made hundreds of phone calls or emails for us to get answers to even the silliest questions. David is very knowledgeable of the housing market, techniques to make offers competitive, organized, detail-oriented, online savvy with all RE systems and tools. He negotiates very well because he's a very pleasant person and well spoken. I learned a ton from him, and he supported us all along, even with our craziest ideas of doing things. I could not believe how much patience he has and how quickly and efficiently he follows-up on all items, big and small. No loose ends, always available - this is a very rare quality in people, especially in a buyer's agent in a hot market like Tampa. We came to him with no knowledge of Florida's RE market and David gave us all he had, and a lot more than we ever expected. David recommended many other RE professionals to me: property managers, inspectors, lenders, insurance agents, builders, and general contractors, and I ended up working with all of them. He paved our roads to become homeowners and investors in the beautiful Tampa area, where we are now moving. I would not work with anyone else in the entire state of Florida than David, kudos to him and countless thanks. I have the greatest respect and recommendation for David Malaxos, we've been so lucky to have him, and we cannot thank him enough!

We both sold and bought a house using BH. Miss Anita B was absolutely wonderful helping us sell our house....she gave us sound advice and helped us understand the process of showing a home and the virtue of patience. She was truly forthcoming and kind, and she listened to us anytime we needed guidance. When we were under pressure (and time) she made things happen, helped us through closing and offered advice about shopping for a new home. THEN, she referred us to a BH agent in Florida, where we live now, and Tracey B was simply astounding! She understood we were without a place to live (due to our own bad timing), and she met us with a smile, asked questions and listened, and found us a new home in less than 1 week. This woman is SO talented and savvy! She's helped us in other ways since we moved in, and remains a treasured friend. I don't know what more you could ask from a Realtor. Both Anita and Tracey were professional, kind and worked hard to help us get what we needed, both in the sale and the purchase. I love them and would recommend them highly to anyone! Kathy W.

An unbelievably professional company, our realtor, Don F, took care of us with full dedication until we found the right one, he assisted us in every step of the way until closing, and has kept in touch with us to make sure of our satisfaction. Other staff members at Berkshire were also trying to assist Don and being extremely nice to us. I give this company a 10!

In Missoula we had an agent who was managing his neighbors home for rental. It is listed as a 5 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath, home with close to 5,000?square feet. We viewed the home, filled out an application with 5 of us potentially moving in. The rent was listed as $4,500 plus $4,500 deposit. We were accepted. We disclosed we were a veteran and made a sizable salary. When we went to sign the lease with the property we disclosed our other son and wife were wanting to come to Missoula also. He would be staying with us for approximately 3 months or less while looking for an apartment. The agent Rick J, who lives across the street, immediately said well that is a deal breaker and there would be too many cars. (This subdivision has at least an acre per home). He stated he’d never rent to us if it was his home! He then had me sign the lease and took my deposit and said it probably would not work out. We got a call the next morning and he said the owner said he’s rent to us but now the rent would be $6,500! $2,000 increase. He influenced the owners cause he didn’t want to stare at more cars (had 3 car garage). They also knew I was a retired veteran and saw my salary and thought they’d get more money out of us! Not only did he discriminate against me because my kids were over 18, but tried to increase the rent where we could not afford it. This is the most dirty thing to do to a family! Now we lost valuable time, but we also gave notice to our current landlord. We hope we can find housing in time and not have to live out of our cars till we can find a home for my large family. Shame on this agent for trying to scam us and take advantage of a veteran. This agent put his thoughts and need’s above what he wanted, not the owner. We are turning this into different agencies for discriminating, because he’d rent to a family our size if the kids were younger. What’s worse is that exact time they said we’d have to pay 6,500 he listed the property at 4,500.00

I am compelled to share my disappointing experience with Trish M from Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Juno Beach Fl. Unfortunately, I found her performance to be lacking in several critical professional responsibilities during our recent real estate dealings. From the outset, when my file was given to her when my first agent went on vacation, communication with the Trish was often delayed for days, ie, not answering her phone. I kept calling her a week before closing. My inquiries and concerns were not met in a timely or kind manner, leaving me feeling uninformed and frustrated throughout the process. It seemed as though my priorities were not given the attention they deserved. The agent's lack of proactivity was egregious. I had to take the initiative in following up on important deadlines and documents, which should have been her responsibility as a competent professional. She whined about how much work she has and chided me for not knowing real estate procedures, telling me I required too much handholding. Yet, she did not arrange a house inspection, nor did she show up for the final walkthrough, one day before closing! Nor did she get the community ID deposit back from the seller. I wrote her an email requesting the agency fee of $395 be refunded since she did almost nothing before and during closing(they received the seller’s commission. )She has not answered me at all. Btw, I was never informed in advance about the $395 fee to Berkshire until I saw the sum in closing documents at the last minute. I was told seller pays commission. Overall, my experience with Trish M from Berkshire Hathaway was far from satisfactory. I believe that her performance fell way short of the standard I expected from a reputable real estate agency. Go elsewhere. There are many agents in south Florida who will not make you feel like an intrusion. No one should have to pay for services not rendered.

Seemed very nice, but refused to give my offer to the owner of a two bedroom home in Bluefield, who offered seller financing. She told me that I was offering the owner of the home way too much money, but I told her that it was worth it to me, and she still refused. Lorriane kept telling me that she could find me something much nicer, even though I kept trying to tell her that I wanted to put the offer in on this particular home, she would not do it. She told me she could find me a better deal in a better area and she would get back to me. Weeks have gone by now, and even though I contacted her to follow up two more times afterwards, she never got back to me like she said she would. Not professional. Very disappointed in the phony kindness and false promises that I received, along with not initially helping me with precisely what I initially contacted her for. Who does that?

Before booking, they were not clear about the extra costs for booking. We didn't see the extra $100 plus per night until we added the amount of our downpayment to what we still owed. I'm not saying that we would or would not have booked the property, but I think it is a very poor way of doing business. They also didn't say that there were parking regulations. We booked this unit because there seemed to be ample parking. A week before arrival, they said that if our vehicle is too big, we would have to park in the Lionshead garage for a very hefty additional fee. Again, a poor way to do business. They didn't even define "average vehicle" in the email. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS COMPANY!! We have been coming to Vail for ten years, staying at the same place, which was not available this year. We honestly don't know what we will find when we get to our prepaid accommodations.

My realtor name was Robert e. I was lied to from the beginning. He helped me sell my home and purchased a new home when he sold my home he told me that the buyer was going to pay the closing cost so therefore I would not lose out on any money. He waited one week before closing and told me that I was paying for closing. I also kind of sold my house to a buyer And not pay any closing He told me that if I pay closing, I would come out the same and the amount that I would get back is if they paid for closing long story short, I ended up paying the closing cost and selling my home for a cheaper price because of what I was told also on the home that I purchased, he bought me the cheapest home warranty possible and on the home on sold He purchased the highest home warranty possible for the buyers so therefore, after speaking with his boss, and she acting like it didn’t matter what happened to me as a customer I do not recommend them to anyone

When I tell you stay away I MEAN IT! The minute we expressed we were not satisfied with the service they immediately removed all pictures of the listing. We were OBLIGATED to stay with the contract until the end. She was late to every open house, In the hospital for most of it and broker didn't assign someone else to us, we had to ask her to send out publication on property (that needed approval from admin), after property on the market 22 days she admits she knew nothing about our market and was going to seek help from a local, people that came in to open house were either not pre-approved, or this house was not what they were looking for (how I don't know). Her suggestions made you wonder if she was working for the seller or buyer. Even suggested reduce price, buy point, and the best one give buyer $10k. Ask her what's her plan when selling your house. I guarantee she will say well I will have a broker open house (trust me no one will show up), then open house day 1 and 2, and then we will re-access where we are. Hopefully we will have offers. Our property sat 30 days with her and we can count with one hand how many people came during open house. She even said we had a private showing (it was a lie- no one came). The minute we realize WHAT HAVE WE DONE, was the minute we sat here and had to show the property to potential buyers ourselves. Be very careful! Her other listing is still sitting on the market after over 90 days. Her broker is even worst, we called to discuss releasing us out of the listing contract is over and we have yet to receive a call. Stay away! Don't ruin your ability to sell your property! Don't lost with APRIL Z! Tip for consumers: End the listing contract and not hold our property hostage for 3 months. Products used: She was the seller for our property

When working with this company on looking at houses and bidding against them, it seemed as tho the realtor we worked with played lots of games and tried to cheat the system. Just starting out as a small family trying to get our own home we got the bad end of the stick when it came to working with and against Tami W out of Pierce NE. She played so so so unfair. She played games and cheated us out of a home we originally had won with our offer. I DO NOT recommend going through her or this company. It’s sad that it happened the way it did. Just really wish she would have not been so unfair with it.

This company sends you a realtor who comes into your home to take charge over you in a game of control! It is not only the bathrooms which she has access into. Once she has gotten what she wants, it will be a whole different story altogether. The change over is instantaneous! Meantime, you get to be on her back and call as to when she feels like contacting you for a "walk through"! Hot for the first few weeks just as soon as your house is listed before turning cold feet! On her part, her job is done once she brings in a photographer to comb through your home to take a few photo shots to publish it in the internet as well as mailing out postcards! The prospective buyers who comes in are nothing more than next door neighbors or competitive realtors who are snooping to see your house while selling other houses close-by! For what it is worth, she represents the buyers' interest rather than yours and goes out of her way to ensure that they are made to feel welcome the first instant they come in for the initial walk through. In the meantime, she uses the Open House over the weekends to upsell her more expensive homes while telling you all the negative aspect of your house! Once escrow closes that will be the end of the "For Sale" sign and it will be the same day she expects you to vacate the property! You see this marks your last day working for her company!

I used Berkshire Hathaway to rent a condominium at a golf community in Naples Florida for 3 months beginning 1/1/20. The broker clearly misrepresented the costs of the golf. I was asked to pay $400 in order to acquire the membership rights at the course ( in addition to monthly rents of $4,000). After paying all of he rental costs including the transfer fees, I learned that I still have to pay extra fees to play golf during my rental period. None of this was disclosed in advance. When I called the broker to complain about the clear misrepresentation he told me that everyone does that....

Susan a is a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway and she does not do things by the book. Since day one she has been the most difficult realtor ever dealt with and actually lost out on a house that we signed an agreement on do to her stall tactics and unethical methods . I will be providing facts of the unprofessional and unethical methods she displayed. My girlfriend and I were pre-approved by a mortgage lender by the name of Huntington Bank. Susan a first wanted to see if it was a State Bank once we prove that then she changed her story and said she wanted to have a local lender almost on the verge of loan steering even trying to entice us with $100 gift card wasting precious and crucial time. She's claims she didn't like what the mortgage lender had to say claim she never heard of it and waste of time with the local assessment. Then we jump through all the Hoops necessary to get this house she made false accusations saying we followed a lead on an internet and in a written email stated we have a deal if we meet the demands of the counter offer we provided all documents in a timely manner and then stated our realtor dropped the ball by not emailing back or calling back right away and ignoring phone calls by our direct realtor. we finally had all the documents signed then she stated there was a better offer that came in when we already had a deal in place. Absolutely unethical and unprofessional realtor and has been reported to the local real estate board to make sure that a couple doesn't have their dreams crushed by missing out on a house they fought hard for. Shame on Berkshire Hathaway.

Absolutely loved the buyers agent! Was completely turned off by Berkshire Hathaway Home Services though. They run the brokerage firm like the stereotypical car sales person! They try to charge a buyer in St Charles County, Mo, a $300 JUNK FEE on top of the fantastic commission they already get from the seller. Makes me wonder if they try to hit the seller up with a junk fee as well. I find this UNETHICAL & a complete outrage. We refused to pay this junk fee & it was removed. There are honest realtors out there that do not try to scam buyers/ sellers with junk fees. I suggest going through them instead.

I have purchased 5 houses up to this point and have good and bad experience but nothing like my son just had with Berkshire-Hathaway. He is looking to buy his second home and he has a pre approved VA loan with Chase. He made an offer on the home for full price with BH and they accepted it. When it came time to fill out the paperwork they sent his agent an email saying they were taking the property off the market. They contacted a second agent in that San Diego office and he said he would check into it. When he got back to them he said BH doesn't deal with Chase Bank so unless my son wanted to get a different loan company they were going to put it back on the market. When have you ever heard of real estate company turning down a pre approved loan from a major bank? Something shady is going on here be aware if you deal with them.

Berkshire Hathaway McGarey Group made my life a living nightmare for a good few months this past summer. Literally still haunts me to this day. Keeping this review as PC, honest, and simplified as possible: - Paul D. (acclaimed Property Manager) may or may not be the worst human being I've dealt with professionally. Would be described as condescending, belittling, and unresponsive to emails or calls - Unit rented in Sedona Condominiums was in inhabitable conditions. In. So. Many. Ways. Inhabitable honestly would be an understatement. I've currently paused my urge to blast the collection of photos online - When brought up reasons why the unit was inhabitable - no maintenance issues were addressed. Three maids were sent 2 days after moving in who cleaned for 4 hours and advised verbatim "cannot believe they were going to rent this place out" and "we did the best we could but we highly recommend a DEEP CLEAN" (not sure what in the world they were doing for 4 hours) I was able to break my year long lease and move out the following month. After the complete disaster of an experience, these bright folks mailed my deposit check to the address I moved out of. That was an excellent way to reach me. This property management will 100% scam you. And mostly ignore you once you request any type of assistance. Please think twice before you sign a lease managed by Berkshire Hathaway McGarey Group. Lesson learned.

Unprofessional and complete lack of communication. I was a renter for one of their properties and the only time the property manager would reply to an email, text, or a phone call was when she needed something from me. Takes over four weeks to get a reply and that is only after you call and ask to speak with a supervisor. Could not live in the house for the first four days of occupancy because of maintenance issues and I was not refunded any per diem. Property manager promised a lot of work related items to the house (not in writing, just verbally) and nothing was completed in one year. They demand the security deposit immediately, but will be quick to let you now they have 45 days to return your deposit. Then they will try to nickel and dime you for normal wear and tear items, and claim the house needs cleaning even though you left it way better than it was given to you. Dishonest management company. Good luck trying to get anyone to call you back. Or extend any kind of professional courtesy. This will happen to you if you rent a property from Berkshire Hathaway. If you want Berkshire Hathaway...just go to a different one. DO NOT use the one in Central Park in Fredericksburg, VA.

This is the worst company, they are unprofessional, incompetent and out for themselves. They make decisions about your property as if they were the owner, like offering a 9 month rental on a unit that's only available for 6 months. They don't respond to phone calls, they hold on to owner's funds and spend the reserve like it's their own checkbook. Our tenant left this disgusting dirty pan, unmade beds, burned out light bulbs, broken toilet and took many of the things that were part of the unit (trash cans, toilet brushes, etc). Not only did I have to pay for it, they were afraid to charge the tenant's security deposit, they did a walk through and cleared the unit as ready to be re-rented even with a broken toilet. Avoid them

Representing a builder who does not provide a quality build. We were lied to on a weekly basis. Multiple problems with our home that were corrected but more that were not. Basically the builder (Tentac Homes) did not honor the home warranty. Look them up, find no negative reviews until u speak to current homebuyers If Berkshire was so inclined they could have done more for us with their builder. I’d Run, we will never use them again for future builds or purchases. Song and dance people, sign their paperwork then they gotcha!!!

This is about Berkshire Hathaway realtor Lorraine G. She thought that it’s ok to call family members, after she was told that I’m going with another realtor, that she still had the right to interfere with something that’s between me and the lawyer. Then I find out from my relative asking me why he’s getting a call from someone he doesn’t know. Then she think’s it’s ok to say I’m being ridiculous. They may think it’s ok to do this in California, but it’s not in Texas.

DO NOT USE THIS REAL ESTATES AGENTS! WARNING !!!!!!! This is the worse real estate company ever. They represented me on a rental. They did not allow me a walkthrough at end of lease and lied about it. Took my keys and locked me out. Then the STOLE my 4000$ deposit ! We did not have toe time to fight these thieves because our house had burned down! So they took advantage of us at our lowest point.

I listed my Mid century modern complex with this company, for 3 weeks or so, the property was not on their website, was on the MLS, was not on the other major realtor websites and I was wondering why so little interest on the property in the hottest selling market ever in the Palm Springs area. Priced fair, the property in the best location of the valley sits. Their networking, marketing is poor at best. Then 2 escrows occurred and buyers failed to perform. Unbelievable am cancelling listing with them and could never ever refer Berkshire Hathaway RE.

They helped us sell the house quickly and without any worries; especially at a good price tag so both parties were happy.

Decisions regarding rentals are made based on discriminating information. They say no discrimination based on familial or disability but they would not allow my husband to either be only applicant or main applicant. They wanted my Ssa to be able to cover an $80,000 a year salary for approval. And treats common law/gay marriages as roommates, not partners, husband and wife. Felt belittled and left in tears after spending all day viewing properties, filling out application to find out that being disabled counts against us.

Realtor Sherry W will NOT represent your interests, only the sale! When i used her as a realtor through Northwood realty (her former employer) she was worthless. Did not warn me about this home having a holding tank instead of a real septic. She worked for only her interests. Now i had to declare bankruptcy. She even reccomended i buy as is at the last minute! She obviously conspired with the owner, working not for me! Dont use this loser!!!

Never leave your house when this company is showing your house for any reason! They asked me to leave so their client wouldn’t be uncomfortable. Big Mistake!!! When I returned that night I found that someone had Went through my drawers and a very Expensive Rolex Daytona has been stolen! Of course they wouldn’t admit responsibility for it and refused to do anything about it. Expensive lesson learned !

Berkshire Hathaway Realators in Ticonderoga NY is horrible! Only dealt with them once and never agsin. Very unprofessional the agent was on her phone texting her daughter when she was trying to show us a house, very rude. She had no idea where the property lines were! What fool shows up to show a home and has no idea where the 5.6 acres was! No clue very incompetent and just rude! We will use another realator. I had a gut feeling not to buy this home.

We have been renting with Berkshire Hathaway for 2 years now. Honestly the worst landlords and company that I have ever wanted with. We've had Pest Control problems and they don't come out to fix it. Our landlord Tom could care less what was happening with issues with the home. I'm so disappointed because you would think with them being such a big company that they would have it together. I definitely would not recommend anybody renting from them. They do not care about your family. I can't wait to move and be done with all the problems.

I feel like I was doing all the work, and wasn't getting much help as far as my options. I just don't feel like I'm a valued client. They get you when you sign your contract, then your put last on their list, maybe because I wasn't a very "valuable" client. Either way, all clients should be treated with top priority.

Unfortunately I had to indirectly deal with one of your agents Pilar Nizama. I’m sorry to say that I had a horrible experience, she has no ethic, very unprofessional and she only cares about money, without considering what a family’s situation will be or will cause with her actions. She submitted an addendum a few hour before our closing time, she even mention to my agent to accept it or cancel either way she had more offers where her seller and herself will be making way more money. Hope she feels very happy with a few dollars more in her life. Karma exists!!!

Their property management division is less than pathetic. Their non interest in doing their job along with an indifferent attitude toward the owners that pay them is stunning. I wouldn’t hire them again to manage a dog house.
