CashNetUSA is an online payday loan lender with services available in 29 states across the United States.

It offers payday advance loans, installment loans, lines of credit, and some brokered loans to borrowers with less-than-perfect credit that are in need of short-term financial assistance.

The company has been operating since 2005 and used to be owned by Cash America before becoming an independent company. It operates as a direct lender, except in Texas.

Customers are serviced through their CashNetUSA account via the website and the CashNetUSA app. This short-term lender does not operate storefront locations.

The CashNetUSA application process does not require a credit check with the main three credit reporting bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion). This means that your FICO credit score will not be affected just by applying.

Loan repayment is not reported to the big three credit bureaus. Instead, the lender uses alternative credit reporting agencies for inquiries and reporting, as customers repay the loan.

The Good

  • Loan Options
  • Quick and Easy Application
  • Funding Time
  • Online Security Center

Loan Options

CashNetUSA offers loans to consumers with bad credit.

These include several different types of loans according to each state's laws and policies, including payday loans (also known as cash advances), installment loans, lines of credit or flex loans, and brokered loans in a few states where they cannot lend money directly.

CashNetUSA's lending services are available in 29 states (see list below) and it provides detailed information about loan limits, interest rates, repayment, and other funding policies for each state.

The maximum borrowing amounts range from as little as $205 to $2,250. Interest rates vary, but fall into a range between as little as 86.9% and as much as 1171.88% APR.

For most payday loans, the full amount is due to be repaid on the date of the next payday that falls between eight and 30 days, though that range will vary depending on the state.

If the next payday falls outside of the state's specified range, repayment is generally due in 14 days. Some states allow for payment plan extensions, while others do not.

If you get an installment loan (also referred to as a personal loan, or personal installment loan), payments are monthly or bi-monthly. Payments on lines of credit are made according to the frequency of your paychecks.

Any associated late fees, insufficient funds fees, and other fee amounts are listed on the Rates & Terms page for each state.

Quick and Easy Application

CashNetUSA only offers online loans; hence, you have to apply online.

Applicants generally receive an instant lending decision, though some customers may be required to submit additional information for verification, or may not be eligible for instant approval. In order to complete the loan application, you must meet several basic requirements:

  • be 18 years old or older
  • have a regular, verifiable source of income and make at least $1,000 per month
  • have an active checking account
  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Not everyone can be approved. Approval decisions are based on your personal financial information and CashNet's underwriting rules.

Funding Time

After being approved, how long does it take for a borrower to receive their funds?

If your application is approved by 10:30 AM CT, Monday–Friday, in most cases, your money is deposited by the end of the day. So, same-day funding is available, but your loan request has to be completed and approved by 10:30 AM.

If your application is approved on a weekday, but after 10:30 AM, funds will be deposited the next business day.

If your application is approved after 10:30 AM on a Friday, your funds will be deposited into your checking account on Monday.

Online Security Center

CashNetUSA provides customers with an online security center detailing the protective measures on their website. Advice about how customers can protect their personal information, how to detect fraud, and how to report fraud are available.

Additionally, the site offers alerts for fraudulent loan approval and confirmation letters being sent out with CashNetUSA's name and information.

CashNetUSA advertises 24/7 customer service and provides customers with several contact methods, including:

  • multiple phone numbers for different departments
  • multiple email addresses for different departments
  • physical mailing address
  • fax number
  • live chat

Not many payday lenders offer consumers this much accessibility.

The Bad

  • Negative Reviews
  • Availability
  • High Interest Rates

Negative Reviews

Most of the complaints and negative reviews of CashNetUSA are regarding a scam operation taking place in their name and detail the variety of scare tactics the scam artists have used.

However, there are also some negative customer service reviews and reports that some of the assertions made on the CashNetUSA website are not as good as they seem.

Some customers claim that although certain rates or terms are advertised, the conditions are not fully disclosed and the actual practices are not as beneficial to the customers as they may seem.

CashNetUSA also apparently offers some promotions or discounts, but applying the coupon codes can be difficult.

Availability

As an online lender, CashNetUSA offers payday loan services across the U.S., but it should be noted that its services are not available in all states.

On top of that, any rates and fees will be different and totally dependent on where you reside, as well as your creditworthiness.

High Interest Rates

CashNetUSA is a loan company. It offers to fund people that don't have access to mainstream credit.

Due to this, CashNetUSA loans aren't cheap, and shouldn't be considered as a long-term financial solution.

Interest rates are high. CashNet breaks out extensive state-specific details on its website regarding available loan options, regulations, loan fees, late fees, and extension options.

APR rates in available states are listed below.

  • Alabama: 228.13-638.75% APR
  • Alaska: 166.86-521.43% APR
  • California: 207.81-805.28% APR
  • Delaware (Installment Loan): 89-449%
  • Florida: 176.61-684.38% APR
  • Hawaii: 201.32-805.28% APR
  • Idaho (Line of Credit): 299% APR
  • Illinois (Installment/Payday Loan): 205-415% APR
  • Kansas (Line of Credit): 299% APR
  • Louisiana: 182.5-912.5% APR
  • Maine: 78.21-684.38%
  • Michigan: 150.1-706.73%
  • Minnesota: 90.38%-547.5%
  • Mississippi (Installment Loan): 249-299%
  • Missouri (Installment Loan): 89-449%
  • Nevada: 260.71-1140.63%
  • New Mexico (Installment Loan): 89-175%
  • North Dakota: 243.33-486.67%
  • Ohio: 291.96-1171.88%
  • Oklahoma: 136.53-434.07%
  • Oregon: 140.26-153.77%
  • Rhode Island: 260.71-1140.63%
  • South Carolina (Line of Credit): 325%
  • Tennessee (Flex Loan): 275.85%
  • Texas: 664.17-662.27%
  • Utah (Line of Credit): 299%
  • Virginia (Line of Credit): 299%
  • Wisconsin (Installment Loan): 89-449%
  • Wyoming: 235.43-235.55%

Each state has different rules and regulations regarding loan amounts, loan terms, and finance charges, and processing fees. Due to this, not all states can offer payday-type loans. When not available, other states offer short-term loans, or installment loans.

As mentioned above, some states will allow you to apply to extend or defer payments. The lender asks that customers contact customer service at least two business days before a payment is due to see if you are eligible to apply for deferment.

Also, as with all payday loan companies, interest rates, and fees will always be high and customers will end up having to pay much more than the principal loan amount. Customers should be prepared to carefully read the terms of your loan offer before signing.

The Bottom Line

CashNetUSA is a short-term lending company that primarily issues payday loans to consumers with bad credit and other credit score difficulties. Services are available in 29 states and funding types, as well as the specific loan limits, interest rates, repayment terms, and additional fees, vary according to each state's laws.

Although the loan limits have a wide range, CashNetUSA most often offers payday loans of between $300 and $500 and the loans are typically repaid on the next payday within 30 days.

Interest rates vary widely from state to state, but are generally high, as is normal for short-term loan sites like CashNetUSA. Several reliable contact channels for reaching customer service are offered, including a live chat.

Potential customers should be aware that this is not a long-term financial solution. Rates and terms will vary according to your location and situation, and customers should plan on reviewing the terms of their prospective loan very carefully before they agree to borrow.

Here's the deal.. you should never, ever, ever ever, take out one of these loans unless you know you can repay it in the original time frame specified. Even then, I would only take out a loan like this if I could pay it off in total before the first installment was due. I found myself in a really unusual situation. I haven't had to use a service like this before, but being able to get my hands on money immediately let me make some financial moves I wouldn't have been able to make otherwise. I made the transaction knowing that I'd be able to pay off the loan amount in total before the first installment. I actually paid my loan off today. Of course the interest rates are outrageous. Of course the penalties are outrageous. They're dealing with a segment of society who can't get funding otherwise, and that's a high risk endeavor. I didn't take advantage of it, but when I called to pay off my loan I heard that they offer the option to restructure, refinance, or even change the due date of your payments. That's pretty flexible for one of these types of services. If you think you can take out one of these loans and treat it the same way you've treated other debt in your life, you're wrong. If you don't take care of this, it will bury you. For one of these types of companies they're probably five star, but I took off a star just for the inherent nature of these transactions. It's expensive to borrow money when you have little or no credit. That's just the way it is.
