Founded in 2004, National Bankcard offers a variety of merchant processing solutions for businesses of all types, including the following:

  • Mobile businesses
  • eCommerce
  • Full-service restaurants
  • Counter service restaurants
  • Retail businesses

National Bankcard claims to have some of the lowest credit card processing rates in the industry. While rates are not made available without a sales consultation, the company is upfront about some unique perks that could contribute to its supposed affordability.

The Good

  • Available Solutions
  • Pricing Discounts
  • No Setup Fees and No Contract
  • Additional Products

Available Solutions

National Bankcard’s processing solutions include the following:

  • Clover Station (enterprise-level POS system)
  • Clover Mini (full POS in a compact device)
  • Clover Flex (full POS in a handheld device)
  • Credit card terminal
  • Mobile card reader
  • Payment gateway for online processing

Pricing Discounts

In regards to rates, National Bankcard requires a sales consultation to determine your needs and qualifying rates. However, you can expect competitive tiered and interchange fee models.

Additionally, National Bankcard has a Cash Discount Program. The program allows you to pay 0% processing rates by passing the cost of accepting credit cards to your customers.

National Bankcard is unique in that it offers some free gear and services when you sign up. When you register, you’ll get:

  • Free Clover placement
  • Free chip card terminal
  • Free mobile card reader
  • Free shipping

No Setup Fees and No Contract

National Bankcard doesn't charge a setup fee or a cancellation fee, unlike some competitors that may charge an early termination fee if you decide to move your merchant needs elsewhere. And the company doesn't lock you into a contract. Because National Bankcard doesn't charge cancellation fees to keep customers "locked-in" to a contract regardless of whether or not they are satisfied with services, customers can be assured they will receive the performance, competitive pricing, and excellent customer service required to retain their business.

Additional Products

National Bankcard offers value-added services in addition to card processing, including the following:

  • Cash advance services
  • A gift card program that can be customized to increase your advertising potential while building your brand within your industry
  • A QuickBooks Plugin for processing, which eliminates time-consuming data entry tasks
  • Invoicing services
  • Check services, which allows you to easily accept checks, utilizing the TeleCheck approval system and making fewer trips to the bank
  • Online account reporting, which allows you to view your accounts in real-time through an online reporting tool called iAccess
  • Access to the Clover App Market, a library of over 200 apps with tools and technology for your business, including payroll automation, inventory management, customer loyalty programs, and industry insights

The Bad

  • Pricing Unavailable
  • No Seasonal Downtime Offered
  • Other Fees and Charges

Pricing Unavailable

The company’s process requires merchants to speak with a sales representative to go over pricing and review equipment options. This makes it difficult to compare pricing between companies in your preliminary research.

No Seasonal Downtime Offered

National Bankcard does not offer any type of seasonal downtime options. Some merchant account providers do, and some don't so this is not that unusual. However, if you are a company that only needs merchant account services during certain times of the year, you will have to look elsewhere.

Other Fees and Charges

This company is pretty good about not inundating its customers with fees; however, there are a few fees and depending on your particular sales agent, they may or may not be disclosed. National Bankcard charges a $5.00 monthly statement fee, an $8.00 Internet gateway fee (if applicable) and an $0.50 per address verification fee.

There are other fees as well, such as a PCI compliance fee; therefore, you should ask your sales agent to provide you with a list of all fees, then make sure you thoroughly read your contract to make sure what was discussed is factually included within your contract.

The Bottom Line

National Bankcard offers the equipment, services, and 24/7 customer service we like to see in a merchant services company. Plus, it offers some unique perks not offered by most merchant service providers, including the 0% cash discount and free equipment with signup. But since pricing is not listed on the website, make sure you understand what you’ll be paying before making National Bankcard your chosen merchant account provider.

I called National Bankcard for a quote and they were great to work with. I signed up with Free Equipment and their Cash Discount program where i do not pay the processing fee. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Zero customer service after sales, many hidden fees, less than above board business ethics, probably one of the sneakers underhanded processors I have had the misfortune to use.
