Gravity Payments is a credit card processing company founded in 2004 by Lucas Price and Dan Price. With current headquarters in Seattle, Washington, Gravity offers a wide variety of payment processing services, including credit and debit cards, electronic check payment processing, gift and loyalty programs, and eCommerce solutions.

Gravity's employee pay structure does not include commissions as part of their compensation, rather they are incentivized based on customer retention and customer satisfaction. Furthermore, in 2013 CEO Dan Price stated he would raise all employee salaries to at least $70,000 per year for the next three years and cut his own salary in order to do so.

This shows an incredible commitment to the company and its employees and is a great way to achieve a high level of customer service while creating a positive working environment for all involved. Presumably, the positive impact of this move has been felt by customers as well.

Gravity offers a full suite of merchant services including the following:

  • Credit card processing
  • Debit card processing
  • Point of sale (POS)
  • Mobile payments
  • eCommerce
  • Integrated payments
  • Gravity Capital, working capital for your business

Working Capital Financing

A working capital financing program is something not often found at other payment processing services. Gravity's working capital financing program has millions of dollars to help their community of business owners grow their business.

Exclusively for Gravity Payments customers, Gravity Capital works with your credit card processing to apply a set percentage of your daily card sales towards your Gravity Capital balance.

This service will help business owners build and improve their company without having to deal with a bank's processes and fees. The program also offers perks like not worrying about late fees, a free application process, flexible terms that are based on your particular situation, almost immediate funding, no minimum amounts, and no monthly payments.

Gravity's Quality Analytics Software

Knowing who your customers are and what they do is crucial information that can help take your business to the next level. Gravity Payments offers a business analytics program that will allow you to see your customer's data to gain real insight and see current trends that will help fine-tune your offers and interact with customers on a more personal level.

This will help grow your revenue because you will have all the information you need to make educated decisions.

Customer Service

Gravity has an in-house customer service team available to assist you with what you need 24/7, whether you're a new client or a long-time customer.

Additionally, Gravity does not rely on an outside sales force or independent contractors, which often leads to deceptive marketing and poorly trained customer service agents.

The Bad

  • Undisclosed Pricing
  • Potential Fees

Undisclosed Pricing

Gravity Payments does not advertise set rates; instead, they claim that by not offering set rates they can avoid the overcharging that's common with other payment processing companies.

This is not necessarily a bad thing because Gravity tries to set their rates according to your business needs; however, they don't have much information on their website to give you any indication about what past clients have been charged.

To obtain sample rates, you need to obtain a free rate review from a sales rep. Get your sample rate to determine if the company’s claims of low credit card processing fees hold up to competing payment processing companies.

Potential Fees

Along the theme of undisclosed rates, common fees associated with merchant services such as a monthly fee, setup fee, processing fee, early termination fee, and others, are not mentioned one way or the other on the corporate website.

After obtaining a quote, make sure to read your contract carefully to confirm whether or not your agreement contains a fee, the fee amount, and if it's acceptable to you.

The Bottom Line

Gravity appears to be a reputable provider with a good track record, a positive reputation, and transparent marketing practices. It accepts payments anytime and anywhere with a full suite of payment processing options, point of sale integrations, and other merchant services.

However, more information is needed to substantiate its claims to provide some of the lowest processing rates in the industry. Rates are undisclosed, so you’ll need to talk to a sales representative to get a feel for what you’d be paying for Gravity Payments’ services.

Additionally, more Gravity Payments reviews from customers are necessary to make a decision based on customer satisfaction. Until more reviews are obtained, prospective customers will need to work with limited feedback.

As always, remember to thoroughly read the contract and all the fine print and to confirm the specific terms, such as processor rates and potential early termination fees.
