It is important to have complete buy-in with the people who are going to use the Medical Guardian. Hearing loss is something that affects probably the majority of elderly. If they can't hear, they won't be able to hear the service checking in with them. It is also important to ensure that the appliance will work with the owner's internet carrier. We bought it for my mother-in-law because she said she wanted it, but the logistics were much more than she wanted to deal with. Having bought a new appliance rather than a used one left us with a brand new appliance that we could not return. We received a prorated refund on our full year purchase, but now we get to contribute a brand new piece of equipment to recycling and probably land-fill. That to me is reprehensible.

We chose Medical Guardian because of the peace of mind that we read about in the MG description of its products and services. Unfortunately, we have yet to see this come to light. We have experienced inconsistency of information through customer service on the number of times we have contacted them due to issues with the service in the area, resolutions because of that service, follow up on issues, commitments and failure to deliver the peace of mind we paid for. We continue to work with MG to see if we can get the services we expect.

I'm extremely happy to have it in case I do need it. I think every elderly person should have one. I haven't had a problem. I don't like the cord hanging around my neck because all of my clothes have a lower neckline and I'd rather that the cord did not show but it does, around the back of my neck anyway.

I didn't like the idea of the way the necklace has a magnetic clasp. I haven't had to use, it I accidentally dropped the thing I had a couple of fireman showed up. I told him I didn't realized I had dropped it I was going out so I didn't hear the thing. I think they can lower my monitoring cost.

The customer service is great. But the device itself is not that great. My mom charges it according to the directions. Sometimes it stays charged for 3.5 days, other times only 2 days. My mom wants me to return it. She said one day it automatically started saying "The device is ready" every 15 mins or so when it wasn't on the charger and she didn't touch it. I was at home, too. I thought someone was at the door. I would like to return the device.
