OppLoans, a product of OppFi, is a lending platform specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals with poor or limited credit history. Traditional lenders often exclude borrowers with low credit scores, leaving many without access to necessary funds during times of financial need. OppLoans bridges this gap by offering personal loans to underserved consumers, focusing on providing a responsible borrowing option. With flexible loan amounts and personalized terms, OppLoans seeks to help individuals manage unexpected expenses without turning to payday loans or other high-interest alternatives.

One of the key advantages of OppLoans is its commitment to transparency and simplicity. The application process is straightforward, with quick approvals and no hidden fees. Borrowers can easily apply online, receive a decision within a short time frame, and, if approved, get access to funds as soon as the next business day. Additionally, OppLoans offers flexible repayment terms that allow borrowers to choose a plan that suits their financial situation, making it easier for them to manage payments without overwhelming debt.

In contrast to payday loans, which often trap borrowers in a cycle of debt due to their short repayment terms and exorbitant interest rates, OppLoans is designed to be a more sustainable solution. The platform offers installment loans with lower interest rates, making repayment more manageable. Moreover, OppLoans reports to all three major credit bureaus, allowing borrowers the opportunity to build or improve their credit scores as they successfully repay their loans. Through this focus on responsible lending, OppLoans by OppFi provides a lifeline for individuals in need of financial assistance while promoting long-term financial health.

The Good

  • Reliable Customer Service
  • Quick and Easy Loan Process
  • Competitive Interest Rates
  • Longer Loan Terms
  • No Hard Credit Check
  • Financial Resources and Tools
  • Refinancing for Eligible Customers
  • Positive Customer Reviews

Reliable Customer Service

With OppLoans, customers will find friendly, courteous, pleasant representatives who are more than willing to help.

Customers rave about the ease of working with OppLoans customer service; the overwhelming sentiment is that the company makes the entire application and approval process smooth and easy, and the representatives make customers feel comfortable and valued.

There's also a common feeling that the company's staff members know the industry well and can answer just about any question. If they don't know the answer, they're happy to find someone who does.

Many personal loan lenders don't even offer human-based customer service, preferring to be strictly online lenders, with no human contact. With OppLoans, you can email help@opploans.com or call 800-990-9130, 7 days a week Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.–10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Central Time for assistance.

Quick and Easy Loan Process

Potential OppLoans customers can apply online in a matter of minutes and receive approval in a reasonable amount of time. If approved, you may receive funds in your account as soon as the same business day via checking account. This is a much faster process than you might see with other lenders.

That being said this service is subject to credit approval and verification. Actual approved loan amount and terms are dependent on standard underwriting guidelines and credit policies. Funds may be deposited for delivery to your bank via ACH as soon as the same business day if verification is completed and final approval occurs before 12:00 PM CT on a business day. If approval occurs after 12:00 PM CT on a business day or on a non-business day, funds may be delivered as soon as the next business day. Availability of the funds is dependent on how quickly your bank processes the transaction.

Competitive Interest Rates

The annual percentage rate (APR) of OppLoans products is 160 percent, compared to personal loan lenders that generally offer interest rates over 300 percent.

While OppLoans' rate range is low compared to personal loan options, in comparison to other bad credit personal loan companies, OppLoans' rates are very high. In most cases, competing lenders offers rates ranging from 19 to 36 percent, which is high in comparison to other personal loan lenders, but allows them to loan money to low-credit borrowers.

Longer Loan Terms

Compared to other personal loan lenders, OppLoans loan term of 9 to 18 months is high. While loan terms vary by lender, most other companies offer much shorter loan terms, requiring borrowers to repay their loan by their next paycheck.

A shorter loan term can save you more money on interest overall, but a longer loan term means that you will be in debt for a longer period of time and you will usually have a lower monthly payment.

No Hard Credit Check

OppLoans specializes in fast, simple loans without a hard credit check. It uses an alternative credit reporting agency to assess applicants' credit factors. This means that your credit report won't be affected by your application. You can get a loan offer without consequence to your credit.

In addition, borrowing with this lender can help you build or rebuild your credit. OppLoans does report to the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion) as you repay your loan. So, on-time payments can help improve your credit score.

On the flip side, please remember that if you fail to meet the repayment terms of your installment loan, it may affect your FICO score negatively.

Additionally, there are no prepayment penalties — meaning that if you can pay off your loan early without consequence, such as being charged a fee.

Financial Resources and Tools

To promote long-term financial wellness, the OppLoans offers free educational resources through a section of its website called OppU. These include interactive courses on a variety of topics including:

  • Money management
  • Budgeting
  • Saving
  • Understanding credit and credit history
  • Debit and credit card basics
  • Debt reduction

It's commendable when loan companies recognize that users in need of a short-term loan may have bad credit now, but with more education, can take charge of their financial future.

Refinancing for Eligible Customers

OppLoans offers refinancing to eligible current borrowers. If you are eligible, there will be a 'Refinance Now' button available on your online account.

Positive Customer Reviews

The majority of OppLoans reviews are positive, with 83 percent of customers awarding the company 5 stars. The positive reviews frequently highlight OppLoans' customer service, which is often described as reliable, fast, and professional. Many reviews make mention of specific OppLoans representatives, suggesting that the loan process is personalized.

Many reviews do mention high interest rates, but this it is common in the short-term loan industry that you will get a much higher interest rate than you might with long-term installment loan companies. That being said, OppLoans' rates may be high, but they are low in comparison to other short-term lenders.

OppLoans is also quick to respond to reviews left on BestCompany.com, demonstrating that they care about their customers and are always looking to improve their services to meet the needs of borrowers.

The Bad

  • Low Maximum Loan Amount
  • Not Available in All States

Low Maximum Loan Amount

OppLoans offers loans from $500 to $4,000. The maximum amount offered is considerably low compared to competing short-term/bad credit lenders. Many other lenders offer up to $10,000.

Not Available in All States

OppLoans doesn't offer its loan products or services in the following states:

  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Georgia
  • Iowa
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • South Dakota
  • Vermont
  • West Virginia

If you reside in any of these states you will need to look into other personal loan lender options.

gavel

The Bottom Line

If you have bad credit an OppLoans loan could be a good option for you. Although the company has much higher interest rates than competing lenders in the industry, this allows it to lend to borrowers with less-than-perfect credit. The maximum loan term is short in comparison to other lenders, allowing you to pay off your loan fast, but it is likely that you will have larger monthly payments than you might otherwise with another lender.

Opploans customer reviews are overwhelmingly positive, highlighting great customer service that is professional, personal, and quick to resolved customer concerns. In addition, customers often make mention of how fast and efficient the OppLoans loan process is, often providing borrowers with funds within one business day or application and approval.

It is important to note that OppLoans is not available in all states.

If you have borrowed from this company, please tell us about your experience by leaving an OppLoans review.

This company is literally been by far the worst company I’ve ever worked for and it doesn’t even matter if it’s been retail or it’s a high-end company this company is literally the definition of trash. I will be going above and beyond to the EEOC and the Better Business Bureau for the way I’ve been treated and lied to it’s disgusting I would not recommend this company for anything I would run. This morning I applied for a loan so originally it came back and said I was preapproved for $2500 Which I understand 100% what preapproval is. I’ve worked in the jewelry industry for 20 years and I’ve worked with third-party companies for financing so I know all about it when I first called the gentleman I spoke to us that his name was Josh, but then coming to find out his name was not Josh. There was something else because the lady told me it was After that I explained to him that it said that I need to fill in all my work information to get the final approval which I did after I did all that and I confirmed everything and I sent everything in that they asked me for it sent me back that I was approved and I have the email and I just upload this to prove it to everybody that was approved not for 2500 for 2000 . So next to it, it says loan amount $2000. This is estimated payout. Amount is $88. Paid weekly. It says the term will be 40 payments. Dennis says my interest rate is 160 I’m gonna upload everything so anyways after I spoke with supposedly his name is Josh he made me look out to be a liar and made me feel stupid like I didn’t know anything about applications or third-party loans which I know more than he does I can guarantee you And not trying to be hateful or myself because this is customer service and it’s all about customer service and making the customer happy. He called me a liar and he told me to email to him and as soon as I emailed it then he told me to upload bank statements, so why would he counter dictates himself, and say it wasn’t been approved and I would I was lying that I said a preapproval on the second one which she clearly didn’t. Then I spoke to another woman named Diana I believe that’s her name an older lady. She literally kept switching it into him and I she wasn’t even making sense whatsoever. I mean literally I didn’t even wanna talk to her because she shouldn’t even be working there. I mean if you were listen to these conversations like the company that these people are hiring it’s sad because we are getting treated like dogs, not to mention I called corporate office immediately after that because I worked in human resources. I worked in corporate so I understand how you’re supposed to treat people and this is not how you treat people. The customer is supposed to be always right, even if they are wrong, which I am right, I would always make the situation better and this is not how it is even close to that. so long story short, my bloody spoke to in corporate office. I explained everything to her and I told her to listen to the recorded phone calls look at the emails that were sent. Why would he say he called me a liar and all these things and said that the preapproval was sent on both of them which I emailed, but it’s on because he literally threatened me to the email to him because I he was calling me a liar. So I sent it to him and then he was sending me to send paycheck stubs and I mean it makes no sense it sounds like fraud, and then she told the boss are whatever the superintendent at corporate and she would call me back at one never heard from her never got a call saying that you know she’s busy. She call me back. She told me her excuse was that somebody else was supposed to call me and I never heard from anybody , so I called another place. That’s the same company at a different state and they started screaming at me so literally this is the kind of treatment I’m getting treated like from this company. I will be reporting this company I have recorded the conversations and I have the emails. This is unacceptable. Do not get a loan from these people they are crooks.

I gave them one star because there’s not an option to give less. They sent me a letter saying that I was approved and gave me a code to enter for a loan. I am currently working to build my credit and therefore cannot have my credit ran for no reason they miss lead me to believe that I would get a loan so don’t believe the hype. They say they will give you a loan even with bad credit but they didn’t even give me a smaller loan option but now I have another run on my credit. I don’t normally leave reviews but I think it’s important that others should know just because OppLoans sends you a letter does not mean they will give you a loan……

So I left a review regarding an old account being removed from my credit report (as agreed with over the phone with a customer service rep that I didn’t get in writing, and consequently denied by OppLoans). Today, I received a letter via email congratulating me on paying off the loan (which is years old), the balance is now $0, with a remittance date of 5/19/2021. Only one problem; the loan was paid off years ago. After several minutes of being on hold, the customer service rep said that the letter was a “mistake”. Again, do not trust these people. I am supposed to respect their “mistake”, but yet be held to the extremest letter of the law after experiencing personal hardships, all while trying to do the right thing by them. They have made their money off of me three times over now, and I regret every dollar.

This company is a complete joke! I took out a loan in August 2019 for $1300. My loan is to be paid off in May with a total of $972.80 in interest (which is insane). With everything going on right now after receiving the stimulus check I called today to pay off the rest of my loan which should have been $284. They tell me I owe $443.23 now. Apparently I missed a payment at the end of September that nobody notified me of until now. The manager I spoke with said they sent out 1 email no phone call, letter, or anything! While they had me on hold for a long time I looked up my bank statements. I have made every payment on time except for that one week because my account got hacked and my money stolen so the bank froze everything until it was corrected 3 days later. They are charging me $159.13 in fees for 1 missed payment that I knew nothing about until today! Buyers beware this company is a fraud and will take your hard earned money unfairly with no hesitation! DO NOT GET A LOAN THROUGH THIS COMPANY!!!!

I applied for a loan on 12/16/19 for a auto repair job... I get asked for increasing documentation each day until Wednesday 12/18/19. I was under the impression it took 24hrs, but on the phone was told it could take up to 72hrs... Ok, I thought, 5 day's to get a loan... Friday 12/20/19 I get a email to contact them, I get asked to sign the contract and ill receive a call about some crap called a bank call verification, after already having other amounts of creepy personal information... I get no call Friday so I call Saturday, and they say they only do bank calls on the week day... I call today 12/23/19 to let them know when the bank closes and I've been waiting a week to get this done. 6pm now, the bank is closed, it will now be 12/24/19 Christmas Eve and I'm still waiting to be approved by some crap called a bank call.... The rates are good, but if your life depended on this loan, opploans would probably let you die. Only apply if you can wait through their goofy process

I don't think its right they say approved fast. I applied on Dec 4th. Called back on 5th to see what they needed to expedite the decision. Needed License copy which i had already uploaded. So she said she has it and Said I should hear back in about 2 hours and looked good should be receiving funds by dec 6th. thats today. Logged on again this morning dec 6 and there is a whole other contract to sign and no one even told me. Good thing I looked. Now the contract says Dec 9th. It will be close to a week just to get an answer on yes or no and I have sent everything needed as soon as I was asked within minutes.

Opploans is a scam. They are a predatory lender who do absolutely nothing to help anyone ever. For example-I borrowed 1200 I paid 5 payments of 106 totaling 530. I called in to these so called amazing customer service reps and asked for an extension. They were more than happy to absolutely not help me at all not even a tiny bit. Then they had the audacity to tell me the balance of my account 1180 left to pay. Now I'm no math wiz but am a genius and you don't have to be even partly intelligent to understand that thia does not add up. I contacted 1 of my relatives about opploans who informed me they could not comment on an open federal investigation. Long story short now this so called great company who violated our original contract by the way which was 13 bi-weekly payments of 106 which would total 1320- has hit my credit report. The only solace I have is that maybe just maybe I will actually be able to buy the house I have been trying to find a LEGAL way to buy in 7 years. Beware of this predatory, enemy of us working folks.

First of all, they sent me a letter saying I was "pre approved" for a loan. In most cases, when you get pre-approval you receive approval after applying. I've never applied before so I'm not sure how they got my information and mailing address. I checked out the website, where they advertise incredibly "low interest rates" with comparisons to other options. I went ahead and applied due to my pre-approved status. It broke down what they could offer me, which was a $1000. After interest I wouldve been paying them back over $1600. So much for low rates. But I've been working on my credit and it has been improving but I'm still continuing to work on it, so I decided to agree and sign the document. Then after showing me what I was approved for, and having me sign and date the document, it says it they'll be in touch to let me know if I was truly approved. I'm not sure why I was present with the amount they "approved" me for and a legal document agreeing to the terms and conditions of the loan if they still had to decide further. They state you will be notified in the next 24 hours of their decision. So I waited and waited and didnt here anything so I called the company. I told the customer service rep that I was checking up on my application. After taking my info he proceeded to tell me that my application ended up being denied and I should have received an email explaining. I explained to him that I did NOT receive any email from them. I also asked him why they would send me a pre-approval letter just to turn around and deny me. He said, and I quote, "those letters are really just part of our marketing." They send out fake pre-approval letters, to get you to apply. This company is a total joke. Do not fall victim and waste your time.

I would never recommend this company. I got my loan which was great but I paid it off after the very first payment actually I paid it off before the first payment came out. A couple of days before the first payment was scheduled to come out. They still took the first payment out. It has been going on 3 weeks now that I requested for my money back they have not refunded me my money. Then they tell me oh you shouldn't have paid the whole loan off if a loan it's supposed to be paid back that's what I did. It stated in the contract you can pay it off ahead of time without penalties that's what I did. However now my account is overdrawn because they refusing to put the money back they claim they're doing it but three weeks after person asked you to do it makes no sense. Then they get nasty on the phone with you because you asking for your money back had the nerve to tell me what you know if you want the money back quickly you can take out another loan. The strong arm and a person I'm going to wait this out and I'm going to sue their asses for everything that bounced because they took out that extra payment. Then they tell me oh you should have called us when you was making your payment but when you call them it says we do not do loans over the telephone so what would make me think of anyone think the pay it back that they would do it over the telephone. I will never use opploans again. I have you other companies and have gotten loans and pay them back very quickly to minimize my expenses. This is the only company that I ever dealt with that tells you it's going to take 12 to 15 days to refund something when it only takes 24 hours for them to put the money in your account. People be very very leery of this company is not what It Seems

Bad customer service, incompetent and inconsistent. The first loan of $2k few months ago was fast, easy and smooth. I did it online. I paid off that loan few days ago and decided to reapply because I had an emergency. I did it again online and they only approved $1500 initially. Since I had a little problem with my direct deposit from my job and I explained to the customer service to no avail. I sent my other latest paycheck from my other job that has a direct deposit. She also required me to submit my income for 2018. And take note, my two latest paychecks from my two jobs have a total earnings of around $3100 in two weeks of working! She also mentioned that I have the option to wait on the 25th for my other job's direct deposit but still they denied my application. It was actually a lie and very unprofessional. I am working in hospitality industry for so many years and these guys need more training about customer service. I dont normally write reviews online but the management should know what is going on. They cannot get any business from me anymore

I was very unhappy with Neko (Supervisor). Even though she may not make the policy, they only reward people who does not pay their loans back. I asked if they could wave some of the fees, being that I’ve never been late on my loans to do an early pay off to make it easier for me. During this pandemic, most of us needs help and when I was told no because I signed a contract, this is unacceptable. Fees can be waived in any situation.

Opp Loan was the first loan I ever took out in my life and I truly regret it, Im happy I got my taxes back in time to pay it off quickly because the interest is CRAZY. I would pay the interest off and my minimum payment and then 2 weeks later I have another 40 dollars of interest plus my 99 dollar payment. RIDICULOUS. And my credit isn't bad either so I feel for those with a bad credit score. I do not recommend App Loan. Go to a credit builder loan if you can.

I borrowed $1300 from this tacky Company. Refi’d 3 times; never more than initial $1300. With each Refi my credit score dropped 10 points because opp loans reports it as a “closed account” not as a Refi!! Which is a negative when they report it to the Credit Reporting Agencies. My advice, NEVER REFINANCE with these people!! I called them to get those entries removed but Opp Loans refused. Best advice; DON’T DO BUSINESS with Opo Loans, they’re sketchy.

They then posed as my bank and sent a text to type in the code addressed as "Wells Fargo Advanced Access Code xxxxxx to verify your identity". WHATTTT??? I got RickRolled, whatever.....But seriously the reviews are either A. BOGUS or B. From people with good enough scores and NO discrepancies on their credit account.

I don't see how this company receieved and A+ rating from the BBB. I was preapproved for a certain amount so I decided to apply. The application was pending and I had up until the 29th of April 2017 to finish the paperwork. I emailed the company asking some questions and never heard from them. When I went on-line on Tuesday, April 25th, the application stated that I was denied. What kind of bait and switch advertising is this?
