Spectrum has been operating since 1993 and is a household name in the United States. The company, which recently merged with Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, serves more than six million people, making it the fourth largest cable company and one of the largest internet providers in the country.

Spectrum provides internet speeds up to 60 Mbps with no data caps. Its internet service requires a one-year contract.

View Spectrum Reviews

Spectrum offers services in a huge span of the country, especially compared to other internet service providers.

Spectrum has been able to grow rapidly in just a few decades, attributing this success in part to its customer service commitment. That commitment involves a fast broadband network and all the tools necessary to meet internet connection needs.

The Spectrum team is willing to help their customers in any way they can to have a positive experience with their company. They offer cable and fiber-optic internet plans.

The Good

  • No Data Caps
  • Short Wait Window
  • Spectrum Enterprise
  • Bundling Options
  • No Hidden Fees

No Data Caps

Spectrum internet doesn't limit its customers with data caps. A lot of competitors have data limits, and when customers go over these limits they pay fees or their services are disrupted. It's a convenience worth looking into, and this feature alone may be what steers you to Spectrum.

Short Wait Window

The Spectrum internet team knows losing internet service can mean losing time and money. At some point, you'll probably need a technician to come to your home or business to work on network equipment.

Many companies who send out technicians leave the time window wide open and make the customer wait for hours for the technician. Thankfully, Spectrum is different. They set a two hour window that the technician will be there. If the technician does not make the allotted time, Spectrum will pay the customer $20.

They also have a 30-day money-back guarantee their customers can take advantage of if they are not satisfied with their service or the products they receive.

Spectrum Enterprise

Spectrum offers fiber-optic business internet for companies who want a fast connection for phone, internet, and TV service. Spectrum Enterprise also delivers cloud services for their business customers.

Bundling Options

While Spectrum may not have a variety of standalone internet packages, they do have several options that can help you bundle internet, phone service, and cable channels:

  • Spectrum Double Play — $89.98 per month, 125+ channels and 100 Mbps
    • Silver — $109.98 per month, 175+ channels and 100 Mbps
    • Gold — $129.98 per month, 200+ channels and 100 Mbps
  • Spectrum Internet & Phone — $64.98 per month, unlimited calling and 100 Mbps
  • Spectrum Triple Play Select — $99.97 per month, 125+ channels, unlimited calling, and 100 Mbps
    • Triple Play Silver — $119.97 per month, 175+ channels, unlimited calling, and 100 Mbps
    • Triple Play Gold — $139.97 per month, 200+ channels, unlimited calling, and 100 Mbps

No Hidden Fees

While Spectrum does charge a fee to lease a router and another fee for installation, the company is more transparent than some service providers in the industry. Be sure to read contract terms thoroughly and take time to understand billing, your monthly rate, and whether you'll pay more after a certain duration of service.

The Bad

  • Limited Internet-Only Packages Available
  • Highest Download Speed is 60 Mbps

Limited Internet-Only Packages Available

Most internet service providers try to meet various audience needs by offering many different plans and bundles. These packages usually have a large selection of internet speeds (download and upload speeds), features, and prices to choose from. With all of these options, you're more likely to find the best fit for your specific internet and pricing needs. This is not the case with Spectrum internet, as they only offer their customers one package:

  • Spectrum Internet: 60 Mbps for $44.99 per month

If you're only looking for internet and this package doesn't impress you, you'll need to choose another ISP.

However, you may be interested in Spectrum's internet and cable TV bundling options.

Highest Download Speed is 60 Mbps

Spectrum offers an internet speed of 60 Mbps. Some competitors offer high-speed internet up to 1 Gbps for slightly higher prices. Potential customers will have to decide what speed they need and if Spectrum internet service is capable of delivering these needs.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Overall, Spectrum Internet is a good choice for those customers who are looking for relatively quick speeds in their internet network. The package it offers would work best for those customers who know exactly what they are looking for and do not need a lot of variety.

Why does everyone blame poor service on the Crowdstrike outage? i just got my spectrum bill for internet/ cable and phone only to see the bill has gone up again! Ahhh, when I went to website to examine my bill- i see a lot of promos had expired , or increased as part of the bill- to get it down to a reasonable level , i had to cancel some services, decrease internet speed, etc- when i spoke with someone about the sudden changes, She Mentioned Crowdstrike issue...... this happened AFTER the charge increases- so how could that be?!- i took what deductions i needed but am searching for a new provider- my trust is tainted after 7 years of so- so service

Spectrum raises their rates every three months and their service is marginal however they are the only internet service in the area of San Dimas, CA. We have asked the council for competition in the area but have received none and we are wondering why no competition in the area!

I asked to precancel and they continued to charge me on full for extra 3 weeks. I had moved and didn't cancel completely as a custumer. I transferred to a new location!!! I had already started new service at my new home, and they won't prorate at the old place for not using the Internet for those 3 weeks.

So, I'm thinking your view of Spectrum is going to depend very much on what you are used to. Like the article says, it may be all you can get. And something is better than nothing, right? Unfortunately for me I came to live in the Midwest from, well, let's just say somewhere very, very far away. And it's not what I'm used to, at all. It's slow, and I mean slow. I had better internet 20 years ago where I lived than I do now in WI. That can't be right. I can accept that Spectrum isn't as good as the best available anywhere else at this moment in time, but not as good as something that was two decades ago is not the same thing at all. The technology they have me use is archaic, I've asked them why and can't get a straight answer from them. It's like I'm speaking Martian and they don't understand what I'm asking. So why is all this the way it is? Well, I'm going to guess. It's because they are all you have to pick from, they don't have any real competition so they don't really have to try. So they don't. The free market only really drives innovation if it really is a free market. That's why they are happy to be stuck where they are with a service that's so out of date, because that's easy for them. They would long ago gone out of business anywhere else with real, quality internet providers as competition. Or improved, it's a bit like evolution. No need for Spectrum to evolve though, they can remain a dinosaur.

Only been screwed over and over by spectrum. Started service at one address, was there for a week. I went with spectrum for the price. It was 29.99 for 400 mbps. Decide to move to a different apartment as the first was filthy. Call the transfer service, they advised I’d get the same service at the same price. I was on the phone for an hour trying to get it set up. Finally someone just made a new account. I said sure, as I wanted off the phone and I have no idea how their systems work. Anyway, I call back as it wasn’t working when I tried to set up. I was on the phone for over 4 hours that evening. Finally the guy advised me of my bill being 44.99. I said no I signed up for 29.99, he said no you didn’t. Anyway I was really upset about the price as I was getting screwed. My new account was only 200 mbps for 44.99. So 15 more dollars and 200 mbps slower. Real cool as a new customer. Finally the guy decides that someone has to come out and fix my router to get it to work. So the earliest someone was available was Tuesday at 6 pm, three days from now. So I go 3 days in a new apartment with no WiFi. Finally 6 pm on Tuesday, the guy is here. I wait and decided to call and was guaranteed he’d be there by 7. I get a call at 6:55 and they said the guy was running 2 hours behind and would be able to come till 9. NINE PM AT NIGHT! So I said screw it im desperate to get it hooked up, I’ll wait. Finally he shows at 9:30 and he was friendly, but figured out that he needs in my apartments cable closet. He couldn’t get into it as the maintenance men leave at 8. Soooo he calls to reschedule, the soonest someone could come was SATURDAY AT 3. I had no option. He apologized and told me to call customer care to get the week credited back, which I did. So I wait a whole week with out WiFi. Finally the comes and takes him two hours to set it up because he got “lost” between buildings. So he advised upon the situation that I should have received the same pricing for moving. He advised I call. I call and explain the situation to two or three times to a rep. He tries to tell me I’m getting the best deal ever. However I kept saying I’m pay 15 dollars more for a lesser service. Finally he understood and sent me to retention. I spoke with Aubrey M. Worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. He constantly kept talking over me and would get louder if I tried to explain. Had no desire to try and solve the problem. I was trying to explain it to him again, and he interrupts and I continue to try talking and he gets louder to where I had to start yelling to ask him if he’d let me finish. He kept saying that what I was explaining isn’t true because they don’t offer that. Finally I forwarded him an email confirmation of my order. Suddenly believes me as if he’s known the whole time. And says he’ll see what he can do and just abruptly puts me on hold. Finally he said they’ll give me 400 mbps as he sees where I had the promotion at the previous address. But they couldn’t lower the price. At this point I was upset and decided I’d start looking for a new provider. So I’ve been looking around. However today I get someone in the mail from spectrum about an exclusive offer for my address of 400 mbps for 29.99. Hmmm. So I call and explain the issue and she is searching etc. gets the account and said they don’t have a plan for 29.99. The rep had no clue what I was talking about, yet I literally had a letter from spectrum. She made me read the letter to her before she believed me. Finally I explained the situation and she tried to see what she could do. Ended up saying they can’t do anything better, sorry. So I advised I’d be switching providers as I’ve just been screwed too many times. And she said okay, well when you need help doing that call back. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I can get google fiber for cheaper than my 50 dollar bill with spectrum.

Outage in my area that did not affect me but Charter techs took my business service down without warning. When I spoke with one of the techs onsite, he was very rude and arrogant stating “we don’t have to let any customer know that we are taking down their service”. He wasn’t wearing a badge so I did not get his name. Although you may not be “required” to notify your customers...it would be nice if you considered your business customers. We were in the middle of conducting business and it didn’t matter to these individuals. A simple “we apologize” would have went a long way. It’s called customer service Charter....you may want to try it some day! Please remember, your technicians represent your company. If I treated my customers like your tech treated me, I wouldn’t have any customers!

karen on the service call from 4/22/2020 was great. overall cable service is very poor with frequent scrambles without resolution for years. Company is totally focused on making money and not delivering on quality of service provided. Would do to another service provider in a heartbeat if another option existed due to years of failed service and quality delivery.

Spectrum is certainly a below average provider. They wont even change your payment due date, to accommadate the customer. Customer service is terrible. Our TV service always has problems. We are absolutely going to change providers, very soon because its quite evident that taking care of their customers is a very low priority, for sure. Bad company.

I had this service from 2012 until 2020 when I finally moved to an area that had ctc fiber. I switched from cable to fiber because ctc was way cheaper than charter and went down way less. My charter internet would go down every night for like 6 months multiple times and they couldn’t figure out why. Their final excuse was “updates to servers” I’m like that many times every night really? Ctc goes down around 5am every morning but for less than a minute. Spectrum would be down for 10 minutes or more without explanation. By the time I’d get live support to check it would magically come up. Super happy to be done with this headache. My mom still has their internet. It’s the cheaper bundle. It is really slow if multiple people are on it at once. My mom has as many cameras as I do but I can have a movie running, multiple cameras recording, and 2 computers online without any slowdown. My phone struggles at my mom’s if it accidentally connects to her wifi. So I give it 2 stars for that reason because it’s the current cable internet cheap 200mb bundle. In town having charter is a joke since there’s always a reason charter is down somewhere here.

I have been a Spectrum internet customer for 20 months. On a positive note: during that time we have experienced only 2 major internet outages. Spectrum notified us by phone regarding the outages, with estimates of duration and then called again when the service was restored. However, the apartment we rent was wired for internet delivery at sometime in the past, so when we opted for Spectrum internet, we were faced with months of problems: weak signal and signal disruptions. During the first six months we had 7 service calls by 7 different technicians, all with different explanations and "fixes" for our problems. Phone calls to the technical help number were also unproductive. During this time, the entire apartment was rewired, the outside delivery line was replaced, and our modem was replaced. Eventually Spectrum decided that the power lines to the house had something to do with the problem, so now we were on to National Grid, who inspected the line and told us it was within "acceptable levels", so we reported this information to Spectrum. We have still not had a total resolution to the problem, with signal problems occurring ever month. I've given up on Spectrum resolving the issue, instead I just call the number and have them "ping" my modem which almost always sets us back to full-strength signal. I never expected that Spectrum could not consistently deliver internet.

Regrettably, my experience with Spectrum.com has been far from satisfactory. The website's performance is plagued by frustratingly slow speeds, making simple tasks a time-consuming ordeal. Browsing through plans, managing accounts, and accessing support resources often result in sluggish loading times and unresponsiveness, causing unnecessary frustration. Furthermore, the pricing on Spectrum.com leaves much to be desired. The costs associated with their services are disproportionately high, especially considering the lackluster performance. Monthly bills quickly add up, leaving customers feeling overcharged for the quality of service provided. In an age where reliable and affordable internet access is crucial, Spectrum.com fails to meet expectations. The combination of slow website speeds and exorbitant prices makes it difficult to justify choosing Spectrum as a service provider. For a more seamless and cost-effective experience, exploring alternative options may prove to be a wiser choice.

We had just recently purchased a home & was looking for a provider. We started off with ATT as ATT has been a staple in household & my family since the 80s. (I know Im old) lol! Anyhoo, when we lived in GA we were looking for internet speed of at least 1gb (Fiber) but the most ATT had in our new home area was 50mbs. So regretably we had to jump ship....So far no issues with the internet & tv itself but the agent who signed us up...lied tp us about the discounts we would receive & the monthly price...After numerous calls to customer service I finally got a few things taken care of but still a few things left unresolved...Not happy at all about that...Would could have been a 5star review is at 2 because I DONT LIKE TO BE LIED TOO!

I only had internet through them so they made the bill reasonably low and affordable at first, after the first year our bill began to rise more and more every couple of months and they assured us we were locked in at a certain price because we are low income and live on a fixed budget. We tried to get the internet that was under$20 a month that's offered to fixed income low budget customers. We met the criteria but they said it wasn't available In our particular area, the trick is, it's only available in certain zip codes, which probably isn't many at all. We now owe a Bill to this company for 2 months of service which comes to almost$300 when we started out paying $55 per month . They lied and mislead us on prices and fees so I do not recommend this company unless you have a comfortable income and can afford whatever fees etc. They throw at you and it won't affect paying for essential things you have to have.

I rated it low because of the cost of this internet service. As a senior on a very very fixed income, they would not budge on what I have to pay. My bill goes up every year, this year it was $20.00/mo. Times that by 12 months, and I get nothing more for the huge increase. Shame on them.

Charter Spectrum continues to falsely advertise starting internet download speeds of 60mps, but I have been a customer for a year and, despite being told I would soon get 60mbps, I have never had a speed that fast. My average speed is 30mbps. They are falsely advertising this all over Texas. I don't understand how they are allowed to do that.

I’m so fed up with S’pectrum their internet service truly is awful as well as the cable service which is tied to the internet. I have no speed the internet freezes my tablet, TV, laptops and iPhones. No matter how much I call in and complain nothing gets resolved even when they send inexperienced tech into my home. I pay so much monthly and I have no idea what I am paying for. I’ continue to be extremely disappointed with Spectrum. Also their Customer Service reps are beyond rude.

Speeds widely fluctuate and rarely ever reach the cap we pay for. My wife and I both work from home and from time to time we'll just have a massive lag that interrupts our meetings. It's also extremely expensive compared to what other companies are offering in our area, we just don't have any other options in our neighborhood. Customer service has never been responsive and they usually are busy trying to upsell us on other products.

The most I ever got was 60 this is respecting the test. It usually hung around 40-50. Services like Nextflx that required more bandwidth would disconnect me on the middle of a movie. Security is not up to par an neither is customer service it is nearly impossible to get someone on the phone an not always friendly or knowledgeable. The prices are way out of control for the internet amount and speed received. It is worse if it is separate and not apart of a bundle special that is more of a scam than truly beneficial.

We have been having issues with our internet for over one year now and because we pay our bill through the HOA, Spectrum will not give us a credit. The only bill we receive from them is for 20.00 a month for an extra DVR box. Regardless weather its through my HOA or not Spectrum needs to make sure that the internet is working correctly regardless. My HOA is not the ones to come out and fix the main line. We had a great rate with them. Usually I call and get same rate renewed. This time the person told me no. So I went to AT&T. When I call to cancel this person told me I could have gotten the same rate. So customer service needs some work. Happier with AT&T anyway because we don't loose service as much as with Spectrum.

Spectrum has been my sold internet provider for the past several years, and I would probably switch if my location offered a better alternative. There are frequent outages and the speed isn't all that fast for the amount they charge. Customer service is practically non-existent.

I think the rates for Spectrum are off the charts! My husband pays 174.56 for internet and cable! Prices go up every year, yet our service stays the same. I can get the same programs with stream services and additional apps for less than that.

When we first moved to our area, this was our only option for internet and wifi. We continually have problems with our WiFi crashing and not loading and representatives have been unable to help us. Now that we have another option available, we are looking to switch.

The service they provide is acceptable. I do not have many service options where I live. They prices they charge are outrageous - but such is the world in which we live.

There's no reason to upgrade on internet speed because it doesn't matter how much you pay, your internet still runs slow and is unresponsive multiple times a day.

They are overpriced and horribly unreliable. Customer service sucks as well, and they like to pass the buck to other companies such as your job if you work from home, it's never their problem.

I didn't like the service I got when I was with spectrum in general as well as price constantly changing from month to month with hidden fees and just all around wasnt great experience like I was lead on to believe
