Attention: Vivint Internet is no Longer Available.

In March 2020, Vivint announced that it would be discontinuing its internet service product, Vivint Internet. The fiber internet product was only available in Texas and Utah.

Since 2014, Vivint has been providing varied services including smart home, security, and internet. The company utilizes a personal approach in an effort to create relationships and truly understand the needs of its customers. This system has allowed Vivint to create new and improved services to meet the ever-changing needs of its 850,000 customers.

Vivint advertises high-speed internet service at a fixed price.

The Good

  • Locked-In Prices
  • No Contract

Locked-In Prices

Some internet service providers use the "bait and switch" method to bring in new customers; they will bait them with an initially low monthly fee and then bump up the price a few months into the contract. Vivint customers do not have to worry about falling prey to the bait and switch as the monthly service fee will always be locked in at $29.99.

No Contract

Vivint Internet does not require a contract for their services. This is great for customers who may be moving or who possibly won't like the services Vivint has to offer. Many other internet service providers require a year or more contract.

The Bad

  • Lacking Information
  • Slower Speeds than Some Competitors
  • New to the Industry

Lacking Information

We are unable to find many key pieces of information on the Vivint Internet website. We would like to have more information regarding upload speeds and data limits. It is difficult to compare their services to others in the industry without this information.

Slower Speeds than Some Competitors

Exact speed varies based on location, but the Vivint network caps out at 100 Mbps. While this is decently fast, there are several other companies in the industry that offer much quicker speeds. In fact, some providers even offer speeds up to 1 Gbps, which is ten times Vivint Internet's top speed.

New to the Industry

While many internet service providers began as cable companies decades ago, Vivint was founded in 1999 as a home security business. Vivint still specializes in home security, and their internet services have only recently been developed in the past decade. For consumers looking for long-standing trusted companies, this may be a drawback. However, other consumers may value disruption in the internet service industry, which smaller providers create with their services.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Vivint Internet provides its customers with a reliable connection and decent speeds through its fiber-optic network. The company offers locked-in prices and does not require a contract from their customers. However, Vivint is not transparent with some aspects of its services such as upload speed and data caps. Despite their lack of some important information, we recommend Vivint Internet services to customers who don't mind sacrificing speed for a better, more stable price without a contract.

Sorry to hear about them shutting down from a letter March 6th. We've had the service for 3 years and it has been great. They were always great on customer support until this last month. We had a two week outage this month due to reroofing on a hub home. The technical support was the most horrid thing in the world but up until now they have been flawless. I will miss the service. They made great promises of 5G coming in announcements late last year. I was just so hoping they would continue. I don't suppose anyone has heard a rumor of them being purchased?

Love the price and service. Hate that they're closing up shop in El Paso. I've had their service for years, but just received a letter today stating that they're shutting down next month. I've had AT&T and Time Warner (now Spectrum) before and wasn't happy with either. Guess I'll have to get Spectrum. I really hope they fixed that short in the cable or every time my neighbor waters his lawn I'm going to lose service... again! AT&T only offers 18 Gb at my house, and because of where my house is located the 18 Gb speed it's unstable (we're at the very edge of the cable length for 18 Gb) so our only option, is 12 Gb because it's more stable. Neither one of these options are "good." Earthlink is another 'option' in my neighborhood, but it would be the exact same thing as AT&T. I'm really going to miss Vivint Internet.

We had Vivint for over 5 years it was the fastest internet provider it blew all its competitors out of the water ! Never had any issues with them ..Vivint had a flat rate you never had any hidden fees when you got your bill . I am so bummed about them leaving Utah nobody even comes close to the service they provided !!

Price has stayed the same as promised and my service has met my needs so far. I’ve read some of the bad experiences on here but none of them compare to the problems I’ve encountered with Comcast over years of using them at multiple properties. I’m a fan of Vivint.

Vivint Internet was installed today. Devon was my installer a very professional young man. The installation was the best that I have seen, having been in the business. Now for the speed paying for 50mbs, I am getting a speed of 105mbs download up load 106 which I might add is crazy fast. All this for 54.99 a month. Sweet deal.

I was skeptical to go with Vivint after reading reviews from this site but I'm glad I took the risk. I get about 90 down, 90 up and I was told I was only getting 50. So glad there's another option other than Comcast. GOOD RIDDANCE.

Vivint is over-selling and under-delivering. We were sold the benefits of the super-fast fiber optic internet service a couple of years ago by the door to door sales guy. I also saw the CEO of Vivint, Todd Peterson's quote of "“My dad told me that if I was going to run a company, I had to provide the best service I possibly could for my customers.” This is posted on Vivint's website. We got the equipment installed and it started off with decent speeds but it has just gone down hill over time because our area is fast growing and Vivint has not taken the technical measures to keep up with the increased usage. So we have just kept paying for the fast service while consistently having to deal with speeds under 20 GB more and more frequently, so bad that often we can't even stream any movies at all and when we can, we have to deal with never-ending, frustrating tech issues. Mr Peterson needs to up the ante because he put his personal word behind his company and they are making him look like a liar. I have contacted them with my concerns but doubt that they will actually do anything so we are in the market to switch providers.

Connection speed 8/10 Connection up-time 9/10 Price 7/10 Customer support 0/10 Speed fluctuates every now and then and once in a blue moon the network goes down but its so rare its not an issue and usually comes back online fairly fast. The price could be lower but its not unreasonable the only problem is how difficult it is to contact them for anything.

I have had the service for about 3 weeks it’s been slow I’m paying for 1g but getting 200-300 MB with maybe a spike of 500 if I’m lucky. it only gets worse the service often completely goes down. When it is “working” it’s intermittent. Can’t do any gaming, can’t stream music, and TV is a joke tried watching a football game and the service dropped 22!!!! Times!!! During one game. Causing the game to freeze. Most of the time forcing me to leave the program and sign back in. When I’m home I turn my phone WiFi off because it’s much faster in cell data. I’ve called customer service multiple times and had technicians out to the house. They have all been very nice but they can’t fix the joke of a network they have been given to work with. I left Comcast and regretted it ever day. At least I got what I paid for there.

Worst experience by the door to door sales guy. Invites himself in for a drink of water. Once in my house he said he needed to make a quick call to see what speeds I could get at my location. He then puts me on the phone with a guy who asked for some basic info such as my address and phone number. He then asks for my credit card info. This PISSED me off. Never did I say I wanted to sign up and yet I was being signed up! So frustrated with that tactic. I kicked him out and I better not get the modem showing up and a bill in the mail. Hello sales folks you have to ask permission of the buyer. Then you can get your commission. His strategy was to sign people up with the no commitment rhetoric then if not satisfied I can cancel. Ok great he gets his commission and I have the responsibility of canceling, sending back equipment and some undisclosed fee that is usually attached. The sad thing is I was somewhat interested but wasn’t ready to commit just yet.

This internet service is about as fast as your 90 year old Grandma with a walker in a 100 meter race. At first speed was decent and service was reliable, it’s just steadily gone downhill since to the point of being worthless. They claim speeds of up to 100 Mbps. On an average day I get 8 to12 Mbps upload speeds. In the rare case I get around 30 Mbps… I am thrilled. The worst part is that it just randomly stops working several times a day. When watching movies or when doing screen shares during important business meetings (awkward). I have had to politely call these guys over and over with issues. Got new hardware, hour long troubleshooting sessions multiple times while being placed on hold. Sending their guys out to the hub, over to my house, etc, etc. The 5th time I called them with issues after having the internet not work for weeks, I kindly asked for a month credit. Best they could give me was 5 bucks, a couple calls later the Manager gave me a 10 dollar credit. I'd gladly pay $200 a month to have reliable service at this point. It’s not about the money, it's the principal. They claimed a few times they would keep an eye on my internet speeds and call me if things went bad again. Within an hour of working with them the speeds would go in the toilet again, no calls, call them back…same song and dance. In the end I dumped them and we are not getting back together. Do yourself a favor, do not go with Vivint Internet.

I have been a Vivint internet customer for three years and their internet speeds have gotten slower. I called customer support and I was informed that that their towers are overloaded. Vivint stated they would POSSIBLY have a fix by April. I am currently getting 2 Mps download speed. Vivint's solution was to credit my account $ 10.00 for the next three months. I am about to cancel my service. While other internet providers get faster speeds Vivint has not improved their service in the El Paso area. I have inquired about faster speeds for three years now and Vivint's response is " faster speeds are coming to your area" and yet it appears their service is worse. I don't recommend Vivint internet to anyone. I have been a loyal Vivint security customer for six years, but as far as internet I will no longer give them my hard earned money. I specifically looked for this site to write a review on this company because I have had enough and I will tell anyone who is looking for an internet provider to stay away from Vivint.

Kept charging after we notified of move-CLAIMED they could not reach us. DUH. They were our service provider and had e-mail, PLUS my cell number and husband's number. After move left gate open for tech-as scheduled. Kept drafting my account. Now rep says I had to call back again; they couldn't reach me. WHY NOT? So, $150 later... paid for service on house no one even lived in. ALWAYS difficult to reach; limited hours. Outages went for days. Chose because salesman gave us rate, which, of course, was not honored according to terms he presented. AWFUL COMPANY. DO NOT TRUST THEM. I am retired; same phone number for 15 years! "Could not reach me" simply untrue. Just kept billing my credit card, and will not refund.

San Antonio area. Our internet is down all weekend... again. This was the story last weekend too. They use an RF antenna to connect us, which goes down any time there's storms, or high wind, or hail, or maybe just a plane flying by. Sometimes the antenna is damaged beyond basic fixes, sometimes it's the router. They can fix basically nothing over the ohone, so you'll be waiting for a tech to come out. Might be tomorrow, who knows. Pray it doesn't go down on a Friday, because they don't work on weekends. I see now why they roped us into a 2 year contract, because the only way they could keep us as a customer is through legal binding. The contract should have been a clue for us, because all other service providers around here are month to month that we have reviewed while shopping for who is going to replace vivint. Once we can escape the contract, we are gone. In the meantime, we have been assured by Vivint that somehow they are allowed to force us to continue to pay our regular rate for the full duration of the contract, despite their 40% failure to uphold their own responsibilities in this transaction.

I have had Vivint Internet and home security for the past year. That's when my nightmare started. The router has to be rebooted continuously. TV shows cannot be recorded because Internet connection is lost......all the time. Security cameras are always offline, they are offline now, as a matter of fact. Garage controller doesn't work, Vivint came to remove it in March, and they never replaced it, however I am still being charged for a garage controller??? Doorbell camera and doorbell does not work. I called to cancel the Internet, and I have to pay a cancellation fee for service I never received? Today, after one of my many calls to Vivint, I was told I'm three months behind on the Internet payment, which nobody ever contacted me to inform me of that. I understand it's my responsibility to check my statements, even though payments are drafted electronically, but it's also Vivint's responsibility to notify me, so payments can be made in a timely manner without a lapse. I spent two hours on the phone today, one hour with Vivint Internet and another hour with Vivint Home Security, all this while babysitting a demanding two year old. The Internet tech came and went, no problem, however he said I have to call Vivint back to schedule an appointment for someone to check my cameras. As it is, I have a busy schedule, now I have to take time out of my schedule AGAIN to wait on Vivint to come back Thursday afternoon. Cipriano, the Vivint Home security Tech that came last week was very helpful and understanding, and fixed the doorbell so that it would at least ring. Miguel, the Internet Tech that came today was understanding, and could see how frustrating it is for me, however Vivint's CUSTOMER Service leaves a lot to be desired. How can I get out of this contract without being charged a cancellation fee for service I am not receiving?

We got hooked into signing up w/ Vivint when a door-to-door rep stopped by our house and talked it up. We were excited to get it, but the speed isn't great, and the billing practices are making me upset. The only option for billing is auto pay, in which they deduct your payment directly from your credit card every month. For the last year, they have not deducted my payment every month. Instead, they call me every few months and tell me I owe them money, like it's my fault someone is dropping the ball on their end. Every time they tell me they have fixed the problem, but then a few months later, they call me again telling me I owe them money. I told them that was it, I wanted to cancel, and I was informed I was on a contract and I would have to pay a fee to escape their crappy service. Ugh. Not Happy.

Our service has been down for a few days. It takes approximately 2 days to have a technician come over to our house to look at the problem. I work from home and rely on my internet service. To add icing on the cake, during this service downtime I was notified that my account was behind. When the price changed, all of a sudden they stopped charging my card. No emails or calls notifying me whether my payment went through or not. I am one of those people, and also because of work, I do not delete any emails. I still have the initial email from when I acquired their service, emails after every calls I made to them regarding service interruption, but I never got any emails of monthly invoices and outstanding balance. Then they demanded payment as if it was my fault. I just used the same credit card they have on file. Looking into switching internet provider now.

This internet is horrible. We were promised reliable connectivity, the same day of installation, the internet disconnected after less than one after installation. After a few hours, it finally came back, then lasted for a half hour or so before cutting out again. This had been recurring for several days now. The internet cuts out as if it is a sentient being deciding to do so at random. It's not the router, it's not location, it's not the weather, it's just garbage service.

I am an actual VIvint Customer. Incredibly Disturbing that they monitor exactly where you go online and apparently if you or anyone on your router get any ‘downloads’ they disagree with like TV shows you may get wheat I got, a weird warning email that they know what you are doing and you ‘better stop it’. There some Huge Huge Huge invasion of privacy concerns & civil Liberty concerns here, like these folks checking you out & spying on your private searches and downloads. Needless to say that was rather scary and invasive to be told that my provider is creeping on my router & web surfing. I am instantly Cancelling obviously I could never pay money to my peeping Tom internet company. but I also believe we ALL need to contact our state reps advising them of this type of stuff seeing as how Facebook is testifying on capital hill about massive breach of privacy things right now.

I've had about five technicians come out and they all claim to fix the problem until the next day. Do yourself a favor and go with someone else.
