The Good

  • $500 to $1,000 Worth of Equipment for "Free"
  • Customers Own Equipment
  • Easy to Reinstall if You Move
  • 30-Day Guarantee

For a one-time upfront $99 activation fee, customers get up to $1,000 worth of free smart home security equipment. This is unusual, as most DIY providers require customers to spend over $500 on upfront equipment costs. What's even better about this deal is that customers get to keep the equipment after their contract with LivSecure ends. Due to the easy DIY nature of the equipment, moving a LivSecure system is easy and doesn't come with a fee like most professionally-installed solutions. Yes, LivSecure requires customers to enter in a contract, but terms are flexible. LivSecure also allows customers 30 days to take their system on a trial run, during which they can return all equipment for a full refund (less return shipping costs). The company also has free, quick shipping, with most orders arriving in just two days.

The Bad

  • Customer Contract
  • 1-Year Limited Warranty
  • Monthly Fee is a Bit High for a DIY Solution
  • No Outdoor Camera

LivSecure does require all customers to sign a contract. The company is vague on cancellation terms, stating "reps will work with you." LivSecure only offers a one-year limited warranty on its equipment, which is shorter than most security providers. LivSecure's monthly fee ($34.99/month) is a few dollars higher than other DIY providers; however, when considering the free equipment, you'll probably end up paying less over time. While LivSecure offers most basic security and home automation company, the company does not sell outdoor cameras. For customers who want to secure the outside of their home in addition to the inside, this might be a deal breaker.

The Bottom Line

If you are considering a DIY security solution, but don't want to pay hundreds of dollars upfront on equipment, then LivSecure is a great option. Though the company doesn't disclose their contract details, you receive up to $1,000 worth of equipment for free and can easily relocate your system with you. And at the end of the contract, you own your system forever.
