The Good

  • MetLife Auto & Home® Bundled Policies
  • High Financial Strength Ratings
  • Focus on Sustainability

MetLife Auto & Home® Bundled Policies

MetLife stands out for its MetLife Auto & Home® Bundled policies. With this policy, you'll have a single premium and deductible for both your auto insurance and home insurance. This offering is uncommon in the industry.

You can customize your bundled policy to fit your needs. You can cover jewelry, boats, RVs, motorcycles, etc. This policy feature makes it easy to find the coverage you need. You can also choose between a GrandProtect® and a Combo policy.

The GrandProtect® offers higher coverage limits for your home, blanket property limits, and global liability coverage.

If your needs are simpler, the Combo policy is a good fit.

Of course, if you don't want to bundle your home and auto insurance into one policy, you can buy car insurance separately from homeowners insurance.

High Financial Strength Ratings

MetLife has earned high financial strength ratings. Since these ratings indicate an insurance carrier's ability to meet its claims obligations, you'll want to choose an insurer with high ratings whenever you purchase an insurance product.

Highly rated carriers are less likely to have financial difficulty that would prevent them from paying claims.

Focus on Sustainability

MetLife also distinguishes as an insurance company with its focus on sustainability. MetLife goes further than environmental sustainability to include sustainability for clients, employees, and in its investments.

MetLife is committed to being a sustainable business by all definitions and applications of the word. This commitment combined with its longevity as an insurer make it a trusted choice.

The Bad

  • Minimal Customer Insight
  • Limited Discounts

Minimal Customer Insight

MetLife doesn't have many customer reviews on BestCompany.com, which makes it hard to understand the customer experience. However, MetLife has built a strong reputation over many years of industry experience.

Limited Discounts

MetLife insurance offers a fewer number of discounts compared to some competitors. The discounts it does offer include discounts for safety features (e.g. smoke alarms, burglar alarms) and bundling policies. If you are part of an association or employer with connections to MetLife, you may qualify for a discount then as well.

The Bottom Line

While more insight into the customer experience is necessary for a full recommendation, a home insurance policy from MetLife is still worth researching further. MetLife is a reputable insurer committed to sustainability for its clients, employees, and communities.

MetLife stands out for offering auto and home coverage under one policy with a single deductible. If combined insurance coverage interests you, MetLife is a great choice.

If having more discounts and opportunities to save is important to you, you should consider coverage options from another insurance provider.

MetLife home insurance was not able to compete with my current home insurance. They were more expensive. I bundle home and life insurance and wanted to change providers for home insurance but not for life insurance. The agent informed I would get a better quote for home insurance if I added on something else, like life insurance. All around, I'd have to spend more upfront to receive only a $110 annual rebate. It wasn't worth the hassle so I chose not to use MetLife's home insurance.

I had MetLife Homeowners Insurance and had no issues. I had no claims under this policy but customer service was good in my experience. Underwriters responsive to my calls with questions etc.

Was checking on insurance coverage and I waited for more than an hour and the agent on the other side was very rude and didn't even give me all the info I asked for. Their fees were not too bad.
