If you're looking for a good insurer for home insurance, MetLife is a great option for its lengthy industry experience and commitment to sustainability.

Read MetLife Home Insurance Reviews

MetLife is a well-established insurer focused on sustainability. Its clients and employees can count on MetLife to make choices that protect the insurer's long-term stability and ability to meet its obligations.

In addition to benefiting its employees and clients, MetLife participates in sustainable development projects to be carbon neutral. Its foundation also works with nonprofits and social enterprises to improve the financial strength of communities.

While better known as a life insurance company for its group insurance policies (e.g. life, disability, and dental insurance) that employers can offer employees, MetLife is a trusted insurance carrier and worth considering when buying homeowners insurance.

The Good

  • MetLife Auto & Home® Bundled Policies
  • High Financial Strength Ratings
  • Focus on Sustainability

MetLife Auto & Home® Bundled Policies

MetLife stands out for its MetLife Auto & Home® Bundled policies. With this policy, you'll have a single premium and deductible for both your auto insurance and home insurance. This offering is uncommon in the industry.

You can customize your bundled policy to fit your needs. You can cover jewelry, boats, RVs, motorcycles, etc. This policy feature makes it easy to find the coverage you need. You can also choose between a GrandProtect® and a Combo policy.

The GrandProtect® offers higher coverage limits for your home, blanket property limits, and global liability coverage.

If your needs are simpler, the Combo policy is a good fit.

Of course, if you don't want to bundle your home and auto insurance into one policy, you can buy car insurance separately from homeowners insurance.

High Financial Strength Ratings

MetLife has earned high financial strength ratings. Since these ratings indicate an insurance carrier's ability to meet its claims obligations, you'll want to choose an insurer with high ratings whenever you purchase an insurance product.

Highly rated carriers are less likely to have financial difficulty that would prevent them from paying claims.

Focus on Sustainability

MetLife also distinguishes as an insurance company with its focus on sustainability. MetLife goes further than environmental sustainability to include sustainability for clients, employees, and in its investments.

MetLife is committed to being a sustainable business by all definitions and applications of the word. This commitment combined with its longevity as an insurer make it a trusted choice.

The Bad

  • Minimal Customer Insight
  • Limited Discounts

Minimal Customer Insight

MetLife doesn't have many customer reviews on, which makes it hard to understand the customer experience. However, MetLife has built a strong reputation over many years of industry experience.

Limited Discounts

MetLife insurance offers a fewer number of discounts compared to some competitors. The discounts it does offer include discounts for safety features (e.g. smoke alarms, burglar alarms) and bundling policies. If you are part of an association or employer with connections to MetLife, you may qualify for a discount then as well.

The Bottom Line

While more insight into the customer experience is necessary for a full recommendation, a home insurance policy from MetLife is still worth researching further. MetLife is a reputable insurer committed to sustainability for its clients, employees, and communities.

MetLife stands out for offering auto and home coverage under one policy with a single deductible. If combined insurance coverage interests you, MetLife is a great choice.

If having more discounts and opportunities to save is important to you, you should consider coverage options from another insurance provider.

The condominium neighbor (insured by MetLife) above us experienced (and neglected) issues damaging our condo. The condo owner was difficult to deal with, and neglected the matter until eventually filing claims. Once the claims were filed, responsiveness, communications, and follow-through by MetLife were absolutely terrible -- slow, sluggish, delayed, ignored & unreturned phone calls & emails, failure to follow through with promised actions. Months after claims were filed, MetLife finally sent a claims adjuster or assessor to photograph and assess damage; and, much later, sent a third-party investigator to conduct a recorded interview. The interview was nearly complete (after well over an hour) when the investigator realized he hadn't turned on his digital recorder! The interview had to be done AGAIN! MetLife and the condo association eventually settled ... roughly two and a half years after the damages and repairs.

This was my home insurance and when my basement flooded because of a huge monsoon they didnt help financially as much as we thought they were gonna. They basically only covered enough to redo the flooring and not all the walls and baseboards that got destroyed. Not to mention all of the furniture and valuables that got ruined.
