Officially created in 1962, Target was one of very few stores that combined fashion, quality, and service with the low prices of a discount store. As time went on, Target became more and more popular and began to branch out all over the United States. Now known for its motto of “Expect more, pay less”, Target strives for just that. This company wants their customers feeling like they are receiving a strong amount of quality for an appropriate price in all of their products. Target may not be just a furniture store, but they do have home furnishing options that may just entice the everyday customer.

Top Ranked Companies

The Good

  • Range of products
  • Practical and affordable
  • Return policy

Target has many great values going for them. They are a department store ranging from products in clothing and food, to things such as home and furniture. Selling furniture in their stores allows customers the convenience of purchasing items from all different departments in one place.  The categories of furniture they sell include lamps and lighting, rugs, bedding, bath, dining and entertainment and kid's home. The furniture sold at Target stores is found to be practical and affordable for those looking for the simple or temporary lifestyle. Other products are more durable and satisfactory for the everyday home. The combination of these products create shopping opportunities for all customers.  One plus about Target is their free shipping option. If customers pay for over $25 in merchandise they are eligible for free shipping which is very appreciated by many people I'm sure. With their slogan being "expect more, pay less", it's not a surprise to find promotions or deals popping up everywhere on their website. They are working to help customers find what they are looking for at the most convenient cost they can. Another benefit Target brings is that they have a solid return policy. They offer a standard 1 year warranty for all of their store-owned products. Products that are not store owned may be returned within 90 days of purchase. Target also offers a RedCard that may be beneficial to some. Customers using a RedCard become available to receive 30 extra days to return items. These cardholders will receive 5% off every purchase and free shipping on every purchase. Another plus that Target is able to do involves price matching. If a customer brings in a coupon or proof of the same product that target owns that is priced lower than what Target has it priced at, Target will price match. They are willing to price match for their customers, but will not match any special promotions or deals that may be going on at another stores, only standard pricing items. Target has a lot to offer the everyday customer and brings options to those looking for quality at a reasonable price.

The Bad

  • Selection
  • Delivery
  • Additional fees

Although Target has many perks, there are a couple things that make buying furniture slightly more difficult through their store. Since it is a department store and has a variety of many other products, the furniture section is not as large as some might prefer. They have little options compared to other furniture stores that strictly focus on selling furniture and home accessories alone. Two other categories that were found slightly concerning were the advertising/sales category as well as their delivery category. Individuals were complaining of issues regarding purchases not being dispersed correctly on their debit cards, as well as other troubles including honoring promises/promotions that were made on their website. Delivery issues consisted of individuals not being able to track their items after they were shipped, not receiving their items in a timely manner, and not being able to communicate successfully about delivery concerns with any representative from the company.  Customers complained of spending countless unnecessary hours on the phone or via email negotiating or brain storming solutions to their predicaments. Something else to be cautious of might include the extra fees that may be added to the price of the furniture purchased if it is excessive or is being delivered to a home that is farther away from the distribution center. The website might say free shipping, but it is a good idea to always check into the fine details to ensure you know what you really are paying for.

gavel

The Bottom Line

We suggest Target as a quality store to purchase your home furnishing needs from. They may not have the largest selection of furniture that other stores may be able to provide, but what they do have includes quality products at a reasonable price. Target has a free shipping option and hassle-free return policy that helps cater to customer's needs. "Expect more, pay less" is very apparent in Target's advertising and promotions. Again, Target strives to provide their customers with the best. Potential customers need to keep in mind that those complaints are very minimal in comparison to the total amount of transactions or purchases that are made within the company. Overall, we recommend shopping for furniture at a Target store.

Target is a fun store, with great products, especially home goods. I don't have one within 50 miles, but do shop there from time to time. I find most of their products to be higher priced (vs Walmart) especially groceries! I think the whole toddler "tuck friendly" bathing suits were pretty stupid. I'm NOT homophoebic, I just thought that was going too far. I stopped shopping there for this reason - but got over it.

I spent over a year only shopping at target and grocery stores in my early adult years out of necessity. Target generally charges more for their goods that are about the same quality of Walmart goods. I do appreciate the general cleanliness of their bathrooms/store and more options they generally do have. Although, it would be nice if more of their items were comparable to Walmart's prices. Years ago they used to price match with Amazon. I wish they did that still but I have tried to price match and they have not accepted. Generally, I find I can get a better deal for the same kind of products elsewhere so I do not recommend Target. The only reason I have shopped there in the last 3 years is because I had a gift card there.

I have enjoyed shopping at Target stores for many years, and have appreciated the value, quality, selection, order and overall cleanliness of the stores I have shopped in. Lately, they have added drive-up service, which, while not without its glitches, has helped me out many times. However, I have had some very disappointing experiences with the Target.com app, and specifically with the way Target offers certain promotional deals, such as gift cards in exchange for certain purchases: one makes the required purchases, and then receives an email and eGift card saying, “Here is our gift to you!” If that was the end of the story, all would be well, but sadly, it is not, because unfortunately, Target then charges the customer for that gift card. When the customer complains, “Hey, I did not order a gift card,” Target then proceeds with some sleight of hand and mathematic gymnastics worthy of Barnum and Bailey, and refuses to refund the charge. Just a one-off? An error, a single mistake or misunderstanding you say? No. I thought so at first, and so tested my theory and came up with the same results every time.

For me, target isn’t exactly worth the price. Some of the same products they offer Walmart offers just in a different box and a different price! Example , wrapping paper this Christmas at target had some of the same that Walmart had, however target was a dollar more. Now if u like earthy tones and modern looks, yes target is for you!

Good place to shop for personal essentials that can be stylish and made of great materials however if you're shopping for home products then I suggest that you take advantage of the coupons and offers.

The quality of the clothing has gone downhill in recent years. The prices of home goods have gotten so high that I won't be purchasing them anymore. It has also become almost entirely self checkout which is disappointing to me as well. With such changes, the cost should be felt in the consumers' pocket.

I shop at Target several times a week with no issues. However, the Target in my area has recently locked up a lot of their merchandise behind those clear cabinets that require customers to ring the bell. This isn’t fair to the customers who aren’t criminals. It’s time consuming to wait and for customers with options, they’ll just shop at another location. They need to revisit this response to loss prevention because of people can’t freely shop, what’s the point of having the store open?

I have been a life long customer of Target. I love their selection, the quality of the items, the cleanliness of the store, and the app! However, recently they have started trying to push a political agenda and displays/advertisements no longer reflect my values. I wish Target would just stick to what they do best - making great, trendy, affordable products for families.

Obviously a huge step up from Walmart and carry most everything you could need. Don't like all the political dabbling, and you pay for the experience but it's still usually worth it.

Target has most things that you may need but they have them at a higher price than other outlets. I don't shop at Target often but I am excited to see items available here that aren't available in other stores, typically when it's mostly out of stock elsewhere.

I like Target for a sense of Style, particularly for Home Goods Not very fond of their woke mentality. I'm saying this as a member of the LGBT community. I think they have gone a little too far. Their store brands on Pharmaceuticals or household products and food tend not to be a very good quality . Not as good as Walmart's store brand.

Target's reliance on self-checkout is frustrating. I get that more and more businesses are pushing this technology, but often I have items that don't scan easily or correctly and require a cashier support person to come over, unlock the 'red light' and fix whatever didn't scan properly. Also, the stores block the main travel aisles with islands that are frequently run into by carts or people who aren't expecting to run into anything. Stores are clean and well-stocked usually. Definitely prefer over Walmart

Much better alternative than competitors in my opinion. Normally has clean parking lots, clean aisles and items are stocked/shelved in an orderly fashion. Occasionally I've found food that has surpassed its "best if used by" date but this would be the exception; not the rule. My preferred place for casual household shopping.
