The Good

  • Free Online Hearing Test
  • High Quality Hearing Aids
  • Hearing Aid Selection
  • 45-Day Risk-Free Trial
  • Affordability
  • Financing Available Through Affirm

Free Online Hearing Test

If you want to see if MDHearingAids are right for you, we recommend visiting the company's website and taking the free hearing test.

MDHearingAid partnered with several professional audio engineers to develop the online test. The test should only take around 10 minutes to complete and is designed to work with headphones.

High Quality Hearing Aids

To be clear, MDHearingAid doesn't just sell high quality hearing aids; its products are medical-grade hearing devices.

MDHearingAid has met all the FDA's regulatory requirements — to sell and distribute Class I medical devices. All of MDHearingAid's devices are Class I medical devices.

MDHearingAid devices are not personal sound amplification products or PSAPs (which are not regulated by the FDA). PSAPs are simply intended to amplify environmental sounds for non-hearing impaired consumers and in specific situations — for example, a lecture where the speaker is far away.

Hearing Aid Selection

MDHearingAid currently sells three hearing aid devices: Air, Volt+, and Core.

The Air has improved noise reduction, four sound settings and is great for noisy environments.

MDHearingAid's most popular model is the Volt+. This device features a rechargeable battery, water-resistant coating, two-directional microphones, and advanced feedback cancellation technology.

Although you can't customize the hearing aid itself, the Core hearing device lets you customize your hearing experience. The Core is a Bluetooth-enabled hearing aid that connects to your smartphone or tablet. The app allows you to tweak the sounds you want to hear — and the ones you don't. The Core also features four audio settings, two-directional microphones, and no feedback cancellation technology.

45-Day Risk-Free Trial

If you purchase a hearing aid from MDHearingAid and aren't satisfied, you have 45 days (from the date of purchase) to return it for a full refund.

The company does ask consumers to try out their new hearing aid for at least 21 days. MDHearingAid explains, "This amount of time (21 days) is recommended because several medical studies have shown that our brains need about three weeks to adjust to new hearing aids."

That said, there is no minimal trial period — meaning you can return your hearing aids anytime within 45 days.

Many hearing aid dispensaries only give customers 30 days to return their device, so we appreciate the extra 15 days MDHearingAid gives consumers.

Remember that if you plan on returning a hearing aid, you must have a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. If you don't, you'll be charged a 20 percent No-RMA fee.

Additionally, you cannot return your hearing aid after the 45-day trial period.

Affordability

Many people find themselves paying thousands of dollars for a customized hearing aid. While MDHearingAid's devices aren't customizable, they are a more affordable option.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $199 to $799 for a single hearing aid with MDHearingAid — depending on which model you choose.

If you need to purchase two hearing aids, MDHearingAid offers a discounted price. The company has even been known to have buy-one-get-one-free deals every so often, so be on the lookout for those.

Standard shipping is always free.

If your insurance policy covers or will reimburse you for the cost of your hearing aids, MDHearingAid will provide you with all the necessary information for you to submit a claim.

Just remember that since not all insurance companies or Medicare cover or reimburse clients for the cost of hearing aids, MDHearingAid will not spearhead this process. You are responsible for contacting the company and asking for all the necessary information/documentation.

Financing Available Through Affirm

If you would prefer to make smaller monthly payments over 3, 6, or 12 months, MDHearingAid is partnered with Affirm.

Affirm is an excellent option for those who have trouble paying for everything upfront or want to build/repair their credit score.

The Bad

  • No Custom Fit Options
  • Not Designed for Children

No Custom Fit Options

MDHearingAid does not offer any custom-fit devices. Instead, the company states its products are one-size-fits-most.

That said, all of MDHearingAid's models have assorted sizes of clear tubing, tips, and ear domes that connect the hearing aid to your ear. By combining these elements, the devices should fit most adult ears comfortably.

Not Designed for Children

MDHearing Aid's devices are not to be used by anyone under 18. The company encourages patients under 18 to see a physician for a medical evaluation and an audiologist for evaluation and rehabilitation.

The Bottom Line

MDHearingAid is an excellent company for those looking for a medical-grade hearing aid at an affordable price. You can choose from any of MDHearingAid's four devices, but if you need some help, MDHearingAid has a U.S.-based team of hearing aid specialists that can help you throughout the entire process.

If for any reason, you need a customized hearing aid, this company is probably not right for you. The company doesn't sell any custom-fit devices. Instead, MDHearingAid has a one-size-fits-most approach, and the company states that its devices should fit most adults.

There is a 45-day return policy. If you are unhappy with your purchase or the hearing aid doesn't fit your ear, you can return your device for a full refund. Just remember to return within 45 days and be sure to get an RMA number or you'll have to pay a 20 percent return fee.

Most companies have a 30-day return policy, so we appreciate the company offering a fairly decent amount of time to return a device (especially since it takes at least 21 days for your ears to adjust).

Overall, MDHearingAid is a great option for those with mild-to-moderately severe hearing loss who don't want to pay a fortune for a medical-grade device.
