While both Aetna and Delta Dental are trusted dental insurance providers, Delta Dental gets the recommendation for its selection of individual and family plans. You can choose from four dental insurance plans at Delta Dental. Aetna only offers one dental insurance plan.
Aetna offers better upfront information on its group dental insurance plans, which makes it easier for you to decide whether or not it has something that will work for your company. For more information on Delta Dental's group plans, you'll need to check the state-specific site or contact the company directly.

I have had Aetna dental health insurance for over three years now. They offer a great variety of different plans when it comes to dental coverage and price. I will continue to be a loyal Aetna member in the future because of how good their coverage extends and how many offices actually take them as insurance. It is truly the best dental health insurance.

Aetna Dental, even with an upgrade, is little better than having no insurance at all which is what I had to do for a while before I found Delta Dental. No reputable dentist within an hours drive will accept basic AETNA dental. They will tell you to put your money in the bank for when you need service. They will cover next to nothing besides cleaning, minor fillings, and extractions if you can find a dentist to accept it.

Used Delta once in a different state through my husband's insurance for a basic check-up. Was able to find a very nice dentist and they went through everything carefully and explained my situation with patience. Everything was straight-forward.

Refused to cover an implant on the grounds that they "do not have a record of extraction and, therefore, it's a defect the patient was born with." They even supplied a conclusion from a "doctor", someone who doesn't know that if the tooth has never existed, the adjacent teeth would move/expand, and the gap would close which would not allow to install an implant. Crooks.
If you're looking for dental insurance for you and your family, Delta Dental offers four different plans with different network and coverage structures. You can also find a fee-for-service and a dental discount plan. In contrast, Aetna only offers one dental insurance plan and a dental discount card membership.
Group dental plans are harder to compare because Delta Dental does not offer as much general information on its offerings as Aetna does. To learn more about Delta Dental plans in your area, you'll need to contact the insurer directly or visit the Delta Dental website for your state.
Aetna offers a nice selection of plan types that includes, DMO-, PPO-, PDN- network structures. Dental Maintenance Organizations (DMO) only covers in-network services. Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) and Participating Dental Network (PDN) structures cover in- and out-of-network plans.
Delta Dental is the way to go for individual and family plans because of its selection. Aetna offers more clarity online regarding its employer-offerings, which edges it ahead of Delta Dental for those plans.
