The Good

  • Safety
  • Great amenities
  • Dining options

Safety

American Cruise Lines, Inc.'s ships are equipped with safety, navigation and communications systems, including defibrillators and oxygen. Many systems on the ships have back-up redundancy for safety and convenience. All American Cruise Lines, Inc.'s ships are U.S.-flagged, certified and regularly inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Public Health Service and the Federal Communications Commission.

Great Amenities

American Cruise Lines features spacious staterooms at more than 220 square feet each. These staterooms provide private balconies and large picture windows with a spectacular view of the sea and landscape. Each room includes the following amenities:
  • Twin or King-sized bed
  • Twice-daily stateroom service
  • Remote-controlled satellite TV w/DVD player
  • Internet access
  • Individual climate control system
  • Writing desk & stationery
  • Hair dryer
  • Spacious closet and four-drawer dresser and dual night tables

In addition to the spacious staterooms, there are amenities relatively standard on all American cruise line ships. While there may be one or two exceptions, for the most part American cruise lines feature the following amenities to their guests:
  • Twice-daily stateroom service
  • Twin or King-sized be
  • Remote-controlled satellite TV w/DVD player
  • Internet access
  • Individual climate control system
  • Writing desk & stationery
  • Hair dryer
  • Spacious closet and four-drawer dresser and dual night tables

Dining Options

Dinner options include local fare from the port destinations during the length of the cruise and the restaurants cater to any special dietary needs of its guests. Enjoy freshly baked breads and muffins to start your day and steamed lobsters, beef, and lamb during the evening hours. Lunch options feature sandwiches, soups, and salads and delicious pies for dessert. Chilled red and white wines are served each day during lunch and dinner. Dress codes are resort casual and seating is unassigned.

Lounge Areas

The Bad

  • No activities for children
  • Offshore excursions
  • Seasickness

No Activities for Children

American Cruise Lines is designed for older adults without children. There are no activities or programs for children. Entertainment options for adults are limited to nightly lectures from local experts, offshore excursions, and chatting with other fellow passengers during the evening cocktail hour. While the line does serve alcohol during lunch and dinner, it does not sell alcoholic beverages to guests or visitors.

Offshore Excursions

The cruise line ships only set sail twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The rest of the time, the ships are tied up at docks for offshore excursions. While the offshore excursions are relatively inexpensive, they are limited in options and consist mainly of tours walks with local historians and bus tours to museums. These excursions range in price from $20-$75.

Seasickness

American Cruise Line ships are built to rarely move during sea travel and minimizing seasickness. However, the small sizes of the ships and lack of stabilizers do create uncomfortable motions during some exposed passages. For guests not accustomed to cruising, these sea motions can be quite unpleasant.

The decor on the American Cruise Line ships resembles that of a generic hotel chain's front lobby. Color palettes throughout the ships are muted and plain. The biggest upside is the main lounge with tall windows that provides the perfect vantage point for passing scenery outside the ship. Luxury amenities are limited when compared to their cruise lines in the industry.

Deposit

There is a $500 deposit required per person in order to confirm any reservation for a cruise lasting less than nine days. A $900 per person deposit is required for all trips lasting ten or more days. Complete payment for any booked cruise is to be made 90 days prior to the boarding date. Single travelers are welcome. Shore excursions typically cost $20 to $70 and can be paid onboard near the end of your cruise.
gavel

The Bottom Line

American Cruise Lines is an optimal choice for older adults without children. While these guests are not excluded from booking a reservation, this cruise line is not designed for families with young children or teenagers as there are no entertainment options or activities created for them. The cruises and offshore excursions are reasonably priced. However, entertainment options are limited. The historical tours and evening lectures are perfect for history and culture enthusiasts. The dress code is resort casual and the ships offer open seating in restaurants, which is a big plus for guests who love to meet new people and socialize. Fares include passage, dining, snacks, and complimentary cocktails. The ships are small and intimate, allowing guests to move around easily in a relaxed atmosphere. There are little complaints filed against American Cruise Lines when compared to other excursion companies in their industry.

Exceptional

Cruises are very well organized. All staff members we've met have been professional, friendly, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. The food is almost always exceptional. Ships are clean and well maintained. Each cruise offers a number of interesting itineraries. What's not to like? We just finished a Maine coastal harbors cruise with Richard and Alex. Richard was very good while Alex is a force of nature.

This cruise was a fabulous experience in every possible way! Everything - the accommodations, service, educational "talks", food, staff, entertainment, excursions, scenery and even the weather - was perfect in every way! Our trip included travel - also perfect! Our meal servers, usually Wendy or Amanda, were outstanding - absolutely wonderful! The food was exceptional (presentation, quality, taste)! Rick, the story teller, was great! (If we had to make a suggestion for improvement, it would be to purchase a Belgian waffle maker. We ordered waffles one day and they were tiny and crusty.) Other than that, though, all of the food was wonderful. So, keep doing what you're doing as we hope and plan to do another cruise with American Cruise Lines!

We were on American Song 8/21/24. On the cruise the food was good but was always lukewarm. On the last day we ordered the sausage biscuits and gravy which were cold with two little pieces of sausage. Our room steward did not replenish our room as needed. National Park tour 8/29/24. The windows on the bus were always dirty. Should have had a step to get off bus. Two couples would put their articles on the bus to save the two front seats behind tour guides therefore not giving anyone else a chance to sit there. On the first day you should not stop at Japanese restaurant because we had to wait for everyone to finish eating and the restaurant was freezing. We were already tired from traveling all day on the bus we just wanted to get to hotel to rest. The food on the bus tour especially the buffets was not very good and were served lukewarm or cold.

I liked the fact that it is very easy to meet and make new friends as the ship capacity is small. I love the staff and crew they are always very nice and helpful. The food is fantastic and they do try to meet your specific dietary needs. They will always try and fulfill special requests, i.e. specific type of liquor, beer or wine. I have been on 4 cruises with ACL and witnessed several occasions where they have went above and beyond to help with guests regarding prescription medications they have lost or needed refilled. Cruises with ACL as opposed to the big ships are a bit more expensive but well worth it for the size of the accommodations, the all inclusive food and drinks, the complimentary shore excursions and the most helpful of staff . I constantly recommend ACL to my friends

American Cruise Line, via the American Melody, gave me the perfect opportunity to get immersed in the culture, music and food of the Mississippi Delta: with someone ELSE doing all the legwork and planning! The staff, (from Colin the cruise director to Vince the excursion director to the engineering crew you probably will not see) insure that you will be treated like a VIP during your journey. Sip a cocktail, listen to some authentic local music and when you wake up you will be in a new port! Applause to the kitchen staff for putting out an excellent product, meal after meal. We even got to experience an authentic southern pig roast called a COCHON DE LAIT. My favorites were the Louisiana Swamp Tour and the Great Outdoor Adventure where you can ride a 4 wheeler, feed Fred the bull, throw a hatchet and use a bow and arrow!

Thank you for the free washer and dryer. But after trying 2 different dryers the dryer did not dry at all. Had to hang clothes around room to dry them. The added National Parks segment was good but it was very tiring with long buss rides.

This was our first cruise with American Cruise Lines and it was in celebration of our 50th anniversary. This Columbia and Snake River cruise was magnificent with wonderful ports of call and excursions. Every element of this trip exceeded all our expectations and the entire crew made us feel so welcome. We've already booked our next adventure!

We didn't believe that this cruise was on the same level as our previous cruises. Activities were limited and some shore excursions were not as advertised. The Decateur AL tour was rushed through because the driver said she only had 20 minutes. The local guide on the bus couldn't talk fast enough to describe what we were speeding by.

The American Eagle cruise ship is beautiful. The crew was very helpful and friendly. We took the cruise from Charleston to Jacksonville in early December. The weather at that time of the year limited some of our shore excursions, Hilton Head Island was bypassed due to high winds. Also the weather prevented our boat trip around Amelia Island. The food was great and our fellow travelers very friendly and sociable.

I thoroughly enjoyed the ship itself at any time of day or night. Visiting with the staff was also quite fun. I am a people person and enjoying the chance to interact with the staff. ALL staff interacted. Jennifer was our housekeeper, friendly, smiling and so concerned about when she was in our room without being an interruption. Crystal was always wiping down surfaces with a smile. Mason was amazing at taking care of our mother when she injured her leg getting into a golf cart. Always quietly in charge. Chris and Gray covered every need. Gray was seen pushing a wheelchair of an individual cruiser who had no one else. Beautiful picture of going above duty. It did not matter what capacity of a crew's position all were great. Kaneish, Raven, William, 3rd Navigator Mark Several other deckhands were instrumental in assisting mom on and off the boat. SO nice and genuine! Housekeeping-Taylor (gave our mother his coat when she hurt her leg), Faith, Ciani, Ad, Anthony (not sure if he was housekeeping, but so nice to visit with in the 3rd lounge) And then you talk about the dining room, Jerome stepped up to every emergency :o) set before him by his staff. His staff - how fun were they to get to know. We did not make it to all sections, but they all demonstrated care for their guests. Errol was the favorite. Chris, Kiki, Simon - Paul we wished we would have made it to his section. Captains were approachable, friendly and informative! Smooth cruising all the way. The other outstanding individual who helped us enjoy this trip was Thomas the Bus Driver. He took such care of us (that would be 4 sisters) with our mom and her wheelchair, we could not thank him enough. Bob was really informative and knowledgeable. Jeff was just fun on his nights performing. If I have forgotten to thank anyone for a memorable trip for us gaggle of girls, thank them for us. As I finish this, tears well up as I am so appreciative of a lifetime experience which we spent together. Thank you, ALL. God bless you and your continued business cruising America's rivers.

The crew and service staff were energetic and eager to be helpful with any questions we had. The boat itself was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. Sun deck generators were somewhat noisy, but not terribly intrusive. The cuisine was excellent. Half portion option was a good idea. The menu offered gave us plenty of possible choices and I'm sure limited the amount of waste that a buffet style service mandates. This was the Historic SE cruise versus the New England cruise that was mentioned. One item needs mentioning concerning the shore excursions. While they were good, it might have been made better to have more of a continuous "hop on, hop off" type excursions. The historic tours were great, but we traveled thru or near two of the eastern seaboard ports without mention. Along those same lines, the entertainment was interesting. The talent was very good, but with their backs to the room entrance and the "in the round" layout it caused us to not concentrate on the entertainment. With a draft of 6.5' and all that modern equipment, it would be nice to see cruises on rivers such as the Missouri from KC to STL etc. I have some info from previous attempts, if you would like to see it. In short, great cruise made more so by our personnel.

Mississippi Cruise Nov 15-23, 2023 Erlanger, KY

This was our first time with American Cuise Lines for a river cruise. We have done several ocean and similar cruises but never a river cruise. Here are some specific comments about our trip. 1. Staff This was an awesome leadership team. Rick as the GM did a fantastic job. He interacted with us on several events. He came around to our food table to check on any issues. His team was also just as good as he was. Aaron was also especially very helpful for our questions. He would make sure our questions were answered. Tyson, Skyler, Julia, Tim, Brandon, and others all provided great service in their respective areas. This was a great team overall. 2. Housekeeping We have been on past cruises where the housekeeping was not the best. Not on this trip. Our room was always put into great shape for the next day's events. Great job by all. 3. Food All cruises are known for the food they serve. In this case, the food was very good. I personally gained 6 pound on the trip. The food was very tasty. But on the first couple days, some of it was only lukewarm and not hot. I mentioned it to Rick and he took corrective actions with the kitchen staff. But then at the end of the week, it started getting lukewarm again and not hot. So, there are some improvement opportunities in the kitchen area. But the food was very tasty. One other comment on the food. We had Rebeca as a server for most of our meals. She was outstanding and always very pleasant. She made the meals very enjoyable. She is definitely a keeper and needs to be recognized for her outstanding service. 4. Excursions This was the highlight of the trip. There was a wide variety of excursions offered. I am disabled and walk with 2 canes. So, I was limited on what I could do. But the trip information provided allowed my wife and I to pick excursions that worked very well for me. Thank you very much. 5. On Ship Entertainment There were some very good presentations. Steve did an awesome job on his various Mississippi history stories. All of the music singers did a very good job especially the last one in New Orleans with the husband, wife, and 14 year old son who played the piano. They were very good. The only issue we had was Judy D and her comedy routine. Some of her comedy routines were funny. But most of her skits were disgusting and insulting and racist. Most of the people on board were in their 70's, 80's and 90's. Talking with the other guests, we all felt the same way. Her comments were way out of place. You would be much better off finding another person for that routine. When she implied that we the customers were disrespectful of the staff, who have done an outstanding job, she went over the line. That was just downright insulting and disgusting. We went around to our staff members that serviced us the next day and asked if we disrespected them in any way. They all said no. Please get rid of her so you do not lose future customers. I and many other customers felt the same way about her. But the others may not be as outspoken as I am. I am a firm believer that management cannot fix a problem if they do not know it is broken. I mentioned this to Julia and she seemed to defend her. So, clearly, I am not the first one to raise some concerns about her. The fact that Julia defended Judy was a major concern to me. I know Judy has been there for a long time. It is time for a change. 6. Improvement Opportunities I recognize this is a brand-new ship. Overall, it is wonderful. But we noticed a couple of improvement opportunities. I had a discussion with Rick on these items. He said to mention them in this critique form so top management can think about how to solve them. Improvement 1: Add a PA speaker inside the elevator. We were getting on the elevator as Julia was making announcements about times for the land excursions. But as the doors closed, we could not hear her anymore. This should not be an expensive repair. Improvement 2: There are no public bathrooms on the third floor where a lot of activity is scheduled. This one may be a little expensive. But for future ships, please try to have public bathrooms on that floor. Since I am disable and cannot climb the steps, I must use the elevator to change floors. This makes it a little inconvenient. Improvement 3: In the rooms, put some operating instructions on how to use the TV remote and operate the HVAC controls. We both had some difficulties with those pieces of equipment. Several others we talked with also had issues with those items. You have to remember that we are old people and do not understand all of this new technology. LOL. Final Comments Thank you for a wonderful vacation. We really enjoyed travelling with your team. While we were there, we signed up for the Columbia and Snake River tour for the week with June 27 to July 5 to celebrate my 75th birthday on July 4. This year we celebrated our 53rd anniversary on November 21. Thank you again for the wonderful gifts. Joe and Chery R Room 216

It all started with my mother telling my brother, "I'd love to take a cruise but I want to see the shore to my left and right." Well, we all giggled with that and certainly understood what she meant, as several of us have been on the big ships. After researching, my brother decided our family would try the American Cruise Lines. Not a moment of our entire cruise was disappointing. Our family truly loved everything; to the staff, the food, the excursions, the American Cruise Line buses that follow the path to help transport us to all the excursions, the beauty of the ship, the rooms were comfortable. Well, everything was simply lovely. It was so unforgettable that our family put together a keepsake book of our cruise through the Tennessee River. Thank you to all that made our trip one we shall talk about forever!

This was our first cruise and we enjoyed it very much. We felt pampered and special with the attention of the staff. Everyone was kind and caring and took very good care of us. Special thanks to Kaila and Andre in the dining room, Timothy over housekeeping who was always fun to talk to and made sure everything was as it should be or better, and Frances, the young man who took care of our room and always made it spotless. The tender operator, Henry, was always looking out for us getting us from the ship to our excursions (and did his best to keep us dry even when the water was choppy). And Jamila (not sure I'm spelling her name correctly) who helped us out of the boat and always had a smile and a kind word. Those are just a few I got their names, but they were the ones who really caught our attention. Awesome crew!! Our room was comfortable, the ship beautiful and the entertainment was fun.

This was our first river boat cruise with American Cruise Lines; we took the Portland, Maine coastal harbors cruise from Portland to Bangor, Bar Harbor, Rockland, Boothbay, and Bath city harbor 7 day cruise. We wanted to make this trip special since it was our 50th wedding anniversary celebration trip. We could not have been more pleased with the ACL staff, management, operations and service; not to mention excellent weather for 5 of the days. All the staff on the boat were very pleasant and helpful. We also enjoyed the daily presentations by Mark on the history of each port. The dining room staff were especially pleasant. Service was superb; on one occasion I saw a ship worker polishing the inside of the cups on the 4th level putting green!! We could not have been more pleased; even delivered a bottle of champagne to our room on the 5th night.

I just returned from my second cruise with American Cruise Lines. This is an excellent cruise line who get it right. As a solo traveler , I feel very safe and comfortable to travel with them. I love that they have spacious rooms for the solo travelers. This is a major plus. While expensive on the front end, the cost covers everything. You don’t have to pay for “ extras” like Wi-Fi , excursions, alcohol, etc as on other cruise lines. With a smaller number of guests, you get to meet most of the other guests. The excursions are great. I also enjoy the music and lectures. The rooms are clean and food is excellent. I never have been pampered so much in my life. I already booked three more cruises with them and look forward to cruising more with them.

We just finished our 13th cruise with ACL and have booked our 14th for the end of May. Obviously, we are satisfied with ACL overall. They strive to attain their motto of "Small ship cruising done perfectly". That is a very high standard and they have been closer to it more often than not. The ships are usually clean and well kept and are rotated to dry dock on a regular basis for refurbishment and cleaning. The absence of children is not necessarily a negative and should not be counted as a negative. Parents with children should do their cruises on the larger ships. Depending on the specific cruise, excursions ashore can be interesting or not but you can pick and choose which ones you want to take. Personally, my favorite part is just cruising during the day and watching the scenery going by. It is a big plus for me that most of the cruises are in American rivers with very little open ocean cruising. I do not handle open ocean cruising well at all so I avoid any cruises that might involve open ocean travel. The food on board is generally good with several choices. The portions are generous but you can request a half portion if it gets to be too much. If the entrees don't appeal, there are other options available including a back deck cafe on the larger ships. Plus, there are always munchies available 24/7. If you can't find something to eat on a cruise, then you have serious dietary restrictions. ACL is constantly looking for more opportunities to expand their cruises. We just completed the new San Francisco Bay cruise. Since we have already taken so many of their established cruises, we are looking forward to new cruise opportunities. We are only 7 cruises away from our next free cruise.

Wonderful New Year's Eve Cruise on American Cruise Line's American Melody. A perfect end to a hectic year and a place to welcome in the New Year with about 120 new friends! I selected this ACL cruise, not necessarily for a specific destination, but for the holiday timing and I was thrilled with the results. The "small ship cruising" appeals to be as I am in my 60's and don't want to be juggled in large crowds or with the energy of children. This line is first class and it is all inclusive: embarkation is as effortless and disembarkation. The meals were varied and excellent, the bar was well stocked and the common areas were delightful.

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent cruise, Exploring Chesapeake Bay, with American Cruise Lines aboard the American Independence. This is a small ship that accommodates hundreds rather than thousands of visitors. I liked this size because I could get to know other passengers on board. At meal times there was no assigned seating and I liked conversing with many different people on board. The food was excellent! Each day we were given a menu with at least three choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I was told that if none of the three appealed, I could ask for something else. But this was never necessary. I ate up all the wonderful seafood we were offered and was never disappointed. In fact, my favorite was walnut-encrusted halibut which was white, firm, and delicious. For entertainment, we heard from a historian who told us all about what had taken place in Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, Cambridge, St.Michaels, and Annapolis. These talks were not only entertaining, they helped me appreciate each of our daily excursions even more. Tipping is not encouraged, pushed, or even mentioned at American Cruise Lines. I did choose to tip three of the many outstanding employees because they were so attentive, friendly, helpful, and fun. . Alcohol flowed freely aboard ship. Passengers could ask for it at lunch and dinner, enjoy it at "happy Hour" and again at the evening entertainment. There was mo extra charge for the drinks. We had different musical entertainment each night for an hour or so. I especially liked listening to Robert Yonksie as he sang so many tunes long enjoyed by people my age. One night we got to hear Nathan Richardson as "Frederick Douglass." You would have thought this famous historical figure was standing right in the room, that's how authentic his performance. was. I am an active person so I signed up for excursions every day and I was not disappointed by any of them. Most of these cost extra but I did not think the prices were exorbitant. They included transportation to the venue, guides while there, and time to explore on our own in most cases. One of my favorites was a boat trip to Tangier Island which was included in the cruise. This tiny island is losing acreage every year due to weathering and erosion so I wanted to see it before it disappears. I enjoyed an excellent crab cake dinner while there. In summary, I had lots of fun and would go again tomorrow on another American Cruise Lines trip.

What could be better than cruising the Mississippi in with the glorious colors of fall? This cruise was beautiful and relaxing and was a Mark Twain cruise. An actor portraying Mark Twain gave talks about the river and his time. There was also a tea with him for a more intimate setting. A husband and wife talked about the river and entertained at night. Local musical talent was also brought aboard along with a speaker portraying Molly Brown. There were varied arts and crafts every day with a resident artist as well as many complimentary shore excursions at each port. Three American Cruise line buses met the passengers at each town to take you on excursions. This was a busy cruise with a port every day and 21 locks to go through! Many times, there was a welcoming group at each port to give out maps and answer any questions about their town. These cruises show small town America at its finest! We were aboard the Melody, a beautiful boat launched in 2021. The food was delicious and varied with an excellent wait staff to cater to your needs. The cabin was spacious with a balcony to watch the fall colors and all those locks!

We visited/toured many interesting cities along the rivers showcasing wineries, museums and many locks and hydroelectric plants/dams. Some of the tours we visited are shown below: Richland, WA – We toured the REACH Museum. This museum discusses the Manhattan Project and the Hanford Research Facility. It also covers the local geographical features and history. A very interesting museum. We also toured the Sacajawea State Park on the confluence of the Snake and Columbia Rivers. This location also includes a little museum. A good place to learn about Sacajawea and her involvement in the Lewis and Clark “Corps of Discovery” in 1803 – 1806. The Dalles, OR – In The Dalles, we walked into town and toured the National Neon Sign Museum. Later in the day, we took The Dalles Loop, a bus ride around the town provided by the cruise line. Stevenson, WA – We took the Multnomah Falls trip in the morning and the Bonneville Dam Tour in the afternoon. The water falls are very impressive; great place to take photos. I went all the way to the top of the falls and the view was amazing!!! The Dam is a very significant hydroelectric plant along the Columbia River. It's a very interesting tour. It also included a trip to a fish hatchery showcasing some of the largest sturgeon around. Kalama, WA – In Kalama, we took the bus trip to Mount St. Helens. It's a 4 to 5 hour round trip and it was a phenomenal stop! Astoria, OR – The dock is next to a interesting museum and a Coast Guard Station. We took the trip to Cape Disappointment in the morning. This is the end of the road (river). The drive is fantastic and the visitor center very well done. It's larger than you think so plan on at least an hour in the area. In the afternoon, we toured Fort Clatsop, the last winter stopping place for Lewis and Clark. The fort is a full sized replica and the museum is very nice. American Cruise Lines provided bus tours to get to the excursions and always had water on board for everyone~ The fees for the museums and bus trips, in most cases, were included in the cruise cost. On board staff tips were also included In the cost of the cruise. Overall, we learned a lot about the Lewis and Clark expedition from the historian on board, the museums and local guides. You will learn about the extensive history and geography of Washington and Oregon states on this trip. The Harmony staff were wonderful … always ready to help. The cruise was great. You will see many beautiful areas, museums, churches and houses along the rivers and you will meet super nice people on the ship, both staff and cruisers. The other cruise guests were professionals so I found them to be very interesting! You will also walk a good amount! Bring good walking shoes. American really took good care of us; they were always there to make sure everything was taken care of during the trip and on the excursions. They really took the time and effort to show how much they cared. A great trip and the first of we hope, many, aboard American Cruise Lines! Embarkation 5 out of 5 Loved the embarkation experience because it was very efficient and quick. There was no long wait lines and the entire crew was cheerful, helpful and cordial! Ship experiences Food and Dining 5 out of 5 We had never been on a river cruise before so there was only one main dining room. We had an outdoor cookout area on the upper deck for the afternoon and we had a snack area on a lower deck. The ship's food was just fabulous! I enjoyed everything and the desserts were exceptional. In addition, when we were in a port with a specific fruit or vegetable they always had something on the menu from that area! Another interesting aspect about American cruise line was the drinks. You could have a coke, a rum and coke, a vodka tonic, beer or wine or just about anything and there was no extra charge. I love having a glass of wine at dinner and they had their own exquisite ones for your pleasure! It was certainly a nice touch that I enjoyed! They also provided room service, too! Onboard Activities 5 out of 5 Fitness center was great to have onboard, but just walking on the decks was terrific exercise! Since we were traveling the Lewis and Clarke expedition route, we had many interesting lectures on the pioneers, the area we traversed, the animals, the building techniques used and most importantly, the indigenous Indian peoples of the area. We also had an awesome artist aboard who taught watercolor and everyone's art really came out phenomenally.... Entertainment

I've never been to the Northwest USA before and this was the perfect way to see it! I loved the excursions. The busses were upscale and everything was so organized. I also enjoyed all the beautiful River Views as we went from one place to another. The Marine Museum in Astoria was fantastic. I have also never seen the type of hotel we toured., The staff on the cruise was GREAT and the entertainment was so much fun! The Cruise director is always visible and attentive to your every need. The Bartenders were great and the cookie times were so perfect! Delicious warm fresh baked cookies! I loved the Elton John night so much and that entertainer Tony was Fantastic. Also the duo who played with Merle Haggard for many years should have the piano players fingers in the hall of fame! The small cruise ambience was perfect for me and I met so many nice travelers

Review: American Cruise Lines, American Song, June 5 through June 12, 2022 Our experience on American Cruise Line’s ship the American Song was a wonderful experience. It was both relaxing, enjoyable, and fun to be pampered. The scenery of mountains, as well as seeing the Columbia and Snake Rivers was beautiful and at times breath-taking. We enjoyed waking up to sit out on our deck each morning to watch the sun rise as the world came alive. Each day, being lovers of history, we discussed, planned, and looked forward to our daily shore excursions, both planned and unplanned. Our meals were excellent and delicious. The crew was friendly, helpful, and anticipated every need. Hotel General Manager Kobi D P was very friendly and although very busy with his hands on approach to operations, always made time to greet us, say hello, and offered helpful information or advice. Cruise Director Olivia F, was fun, entertaining, and offered a lot of energy to activities throughout the day. What might have been a boring process getting off or on a bus, was made delightful as Olivia entertained us all with her clowning theatrics. Each evening we enjoyed Jason and Jack making our cocktails in the lounge and were delighted to listen to the evening entertainment by the talented Laura S and Bill W with their beautiful and mesmerizing music. Our room was clean, well serviced, and comfortable. Kudos to the housekeeping for always keeping our stay, pleasurable, and well stocked. Overall, an excellent experience to see parts of America we’ve never seen before. The shore excursions were fun and informative. If you0’re looking for a break from the mega-ships and want to explore America, we’d recommend American Cruise Lines.

I just got back from another cruise on American Cruise Lines- the American Song. I really can't say enough good things about this cruise. I've taken several of these and will continue to take more. The boats are beautiful and the service is the best I've had on any cruise line. The food is gourmet, and the staff is willing to do whatever it takes to accommodate your food preferences. The same is true for the whole staff- they are truly incredible. The alcohol and some excursions are all included. You literally don't have to spend a nickel once you get on. I love that!! They have activities and entertainment daily. I can't wait for my next cruise with them.

I have cruised with American Cruise Lines twice & have another one booked. Booking my cruise by phone was easy, thanks to the Cruise Specialists. Aboard ship, all of the crew were professional and pleasant. The dining room servers were very personable & made our meals (which were delicious!!) enjoyable. The on-board presentations were interesting and the entertainment was great. Rooms were clean & kept that way by being serviced twice a day. Overall, I have been impressed with American Cruise Lines because they treat their guests like each one is important to them. My most recent cruise was interrupted by unforseen circumstances. The hotel manager and cruise director arranged alternate activities for us. Because this cruise was shortened by a few days, American Cruise Lines offered us a very generous discount to be used on another cruise. In this day and age when customer service seems to have disappeared, I can verify that customer service is still very important to American Cruise Lines.

Will be taking our fifth cruise with American this Spring. From the moment we hand our luggage to the crew in the red shirts we receive the kid glove treatment in every way possible. We immediately relax, and we feel AT HOME. We are not part of a mindless herd; the size of the ship and the level of service we enjoy make it the most genteel way we know of relaxing and enjoying the whole cruising experience. All of the amenities we want, none of the ones we're never going to indulge in in the first place. We feel safe, coddled, catered to. Different people want different things..I have no desire to get in a hot tub with 14 strangers, or have the smoke cleaned out of my clothes daily from walking through a Casino. A smiling face without a hand held out for a gratuity. Not a spiked heel, or a wife-beater t-shirt in sight. I often find myself looking around at my surroundings, sighing happily and thinking "how nice". American Cruise Lines is perfect for us.

My experience started off not good as I had bought a ticket thru ACL to go to the Grand Old Opry. Mistake. The ticket was not in my folder when I got to the Gaylord HOtel. They said it would be at the ticket booth. It wasn't. Four of us didn't have tickets and we were in the heat for over an hour while they tried to figure out where the tickets were for us. I had my receipt fortunately. They were all over the place looking for the group coming in from St. Louis. 10 minutes before the show started people started coming in from the buses. The people from the Grand Ole Opry ran down to the buses and got our tickets. I HIGHLY recomend you come up with a better solution to this. It's not fun not having a ticket in your hand after you've paid for it. It was so HOT and just frustrating. The trip was enjoyable and I did appreciate ACL providing us a hotel room at the end because the river had flooded and we would have had a 2 hour bus ride to the airport coming home. We were told that several had canceled going from St. Louis to Nashville so rooms were available. Leaving for the airport at 4 am would not have been good for anyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Puget Sound cruise In September 2019. The entire crew was very focused on guest comfort. The attention to detail was excellent. The food was very good and selections were fine except too much spinach. I have 2 constructive criticisms. 1) concerns the gangway for boarding and exiting the ship. It is a little shaky. There was always a crew member on the dock ready to assist and their assistance was needed at times. The gangway has railings but not at the dock end. I would like to see railings added at the dock end of the gangway. 2) I’d like to have a nightlight in the bathroom.

This is the third cruise my wife and I have taken with American Cruise Lines. Each one seems to get better and better. This last one was the inside passage in Alaska. Every day was chock full of amazing scenery and magnificent wildlife. We saw bear, moose, eagles, otters, seal, sea lions, whales and countless other bird life. The small size of the ship afforded us a very up close view of countless glaciers. The food of course was wonderful. Also the ship offered complimentary wine and beer at lunch a happy hour from 5:30 to 7:00. Wine or cocktails at dinner and finally another happy hour at 8:30. The age demographics do tend to lean towards the older traveler, but my wife and find the passengers to not only be accomplished in their respective fields, but very interesting people. I highly recommend American Cruise Lines.

Sales, accounting, back office stuff smooth and quick Included tours appropriate and interesting Mgt staff outstanding; Jaimie and Richard extended themselves to ensure a great passenger experience. Food was very good but not quite up to the Mississippi cruises. interesting menu change of two featured offerings with repeated standard ones. Only bailed to BLT once. Wait staff above average with trying and being pleasant. Interesting change to concurrent cocktail / dining hour - worked okay. Entertainment - a challenge for a small boat, enjoyed the interactive "cowboy" best, the 4 saxes were good but more of a concert feel. Staff scrambled well to handle cancellations. Red Lion excellent pre-cruise lodging. Good enough to reserve #4 cruise.

This was my first cruise with American Cruise Lines and it won't be my last. Every member of the crew made our journey carefree and fun. The accommodations, food, service, shore excursions and overall atmosphere on the ship was excellent. I was a little apprehensive because the Mississippi River was at flood level, but we managed to visit all but one of the places listed on our itinerary. We did have to dock at some alternate sites, but every effort was made to get to the rest of our itinerary. Leaving at the end of our trip was sad but we had a fun bus tour of New Orleans with Don Downs and a drop off at our airport. Don't hesitate to take a trip on American Cruise Lines.

This was our second cruise with American Cruise Lines. The boat was rather new and beautifully decorated. Our room was clean, quiet, and convenient. The food was beautifully served and delicious. There were ample selections at each meal and we appreciated that we were able to have 1/2 portions. The new snack bar service on the upper deck was a fun and convenient way to get a lighter meal. Our main server, Patricia, was exceptional. We were very please with the itinerary because of our interest in the history of Lewis and Clark. The only time we felt a little rushed was at Cape Disappointment. Perhaps that should be scheduled earlier in the day and maybe precede Fort Clapsop.

This was my wife's and my first cruise. We had a very enjoyable time. My only complaint is that we were not given early information on changes in the cruise due to low water levels on the Mississippi. These changes involved bus rides to events and length of the bus ride. We may have elected to not participate in if we knew the length of the bus ride. My only other complaint is that the cabin we were in had a problem with the shower. I thought it was me originally, I flooded the bathroom numerous times requiring using all our towels to clean up. I discovered there was a 1/2 inch gap under the shower door. After discovering this towards the end of the cruise, I notified the staff and their response was that it was a known problem. So why was I put into that cabin. This was a bit disturbing.

Love the two very well-equipped fitness rooms on the Symphony. Cuisines, cocktails, entertainment were premium. I love the flexibility of dining time. Complimentary excursions were almost comparable to the paid ones. Best of all, customer service! From deck hands, security, housekeepers, servers to the directors, everyone was so nice, helpful and wanted nothing more than to please us, even after the cruise ended. We disputed one of the paid excursions on our invoice, and ACL didn't think twice about making things right. I will surely cruise with ACL again.

I liked everything about this cruise of the lower Mississippi. The staff were always friendly, courteous and helpful. The onboard activities and entertainment were great, the food and meal choices were top notch. I have only a couple of suggestions: 1. Don’t visit Vicksburg on a Sunday as everything is closed. 2. Update the daily port activities or things to see. We wanted to go the Hard Rock in Memphis and after some effort to get there, it had went out of business.

We enjoyed everything on the cruise. Just a suggestion. If it is possible to have no carpet in the traffic areas of the ship. Many seniors have issues with tripping and/or falling due to carpet and rubber sole shoes getting stuck on the carpet. Plus, those who use a cane, walker or motorized cart when necessary can get around easier without the carpet. As far as the entertainment that performs. It would be nice if there is a designated dance area for those who want to dance. Right now, the dance area is taken up by the performers which makes it hard to dance on the flooring that is left which is carpet.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the crew made the cruise enjoyable. We particularly liked the food service arrangement in the dining room. Every meal had a good selection, was deliciously prepared and promptly served. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable and lent itself to meeting and socializing with fellow travelers. Tours, informative lectures and entertainment were excellent.

Amercian Cruise Lines has become our yearly cruising adventure. This year's trip abord the Amercian Serenade was amazing. We boarded in Chattanoga and ended in Nashville. As always, the crew and staff always at your service. We have never had a bad experience. also, the Dailey activity was professional and well planned. We have our next year's adventure already planned with ACL.

Eagle’s staff was exceptionally courteous and helpful. Meals were wonderfully prepared, selection options were very good and staff were most professional. The head of hotel management and the social director were energetic, diligent and accommodating. Some of the excursions were limited by time but well organized with transportation. The on shore excursion contributors were well chosen. The lobster bake was most enjoyable and well run. On board activities were somewhat limited and the entertainment was enjoyable but not heavily attended. All of the hired entertainers were talented, and professional (except the comedian who was complaining and not funny). Major highlights were the spacious cabins, accommodations and cleanliness of this new vessel.

My very first cruise and an AMAZING experience I was able to share with my mother. THANK YOU mother nature for her input in providing great weather, the staff for being so lovely and accommodating and AMERICAN CRUISE LINE for their excellent curating of excursions. As a mother, I always had to do all the planning and research - they insured a great experience through THEIR pre-planning. I could relax, eat endlessly, drink cocktails, make new friends and follow along. EUTOPIA!

Wonderful trip! The crew, Julia, Bill, Johnathan, Brea, Aryana, Aly, Timothy, the chef at the Sky Lounge, Brian, and any number of other crew members deserve compliments on their service. A few things to think about: a microwave oven in the Sky Lounge, repair of the coffee machine in the Sky Lounge, food representing the local culture served in the dinning room.

American Cruise Lines is the leader in cruises in America. They only operate in the USA and have the most varied and interesting cruises in America. My wife and I took the Hudson River cruise in September of 2022. We had originally booked the Columbia River cruise in May of 2020 but it was cancelled for COVID reasons. I almost lost $15K to bad customer service who had a lack of understanding and empathy. Working with the CEO's office we got to reschedule the Hudson River cruise in September of 2022 on the American Constitution. Our experience on the weeklong cruise was quite pleasant. The meals were tasty and presented well. I am a fussy eater and did not have a problem. We met a number of interesting and friendly people. The staff were courteous, friendly, and helpful. The shore excursions were interesting, and some were breathtaking! The only con was the condition of the ship. The stained carpeting, room safe and refrigerator not working, outside rust on the ship, the sliding glass door in our room would not close (a stick in the door channel solved this problem), and the torn upholstery on the top deck outside seating showed a lack of attention to detail. If you are willing to ignore the details, you will have a fun filled, pleasant cruise.
