The Good

  • Medication for Women
  • Affordability
  • Patient Support
  • Accepts Medicaid

Medication for Women

Of course, Nurx offers medication for everyone. You can order an HPV screening test, STI kit, or even something to help with migraines. That being said, Nurx provides a few things specifically for women.

Women can go to Nurx and order a one-month birth control supply (1 pack) for as low as $0 (with insurance) or as low as $15 (without insurance).

Choosing birth control is extremely personal and what works for others may not work for you. Nurx has over more than 100 generic and name brand birth control options. Plus, you can choose which form of birth control you prefer: pills, patch, ring, or a shot.

Nurx can also prescribe emergency contraception. You can choose from Ella — prescription only and works up to five days after unprotected sex. Or you can select Plan B (and other generic versions) that are available without a prescription and work for up to three days after unprotected sex.

You can get emergency contraception for free with insurance or as little as $20 without insurance. Nurx charges a $15 medical consultation fee, covering unlimited access to its medical team for consultations relating to your emergency contraception.

Affordability

As healthcare prices soar, everyone should appreciate Nurx's dedication to keeping its costs affordable.

Nurx's online medical consultation cost will be different depending on what you need. For birth control, emergency contraception, PrEP, and home testing for HPV or STIs, the fee is $15. The migraine treatment consultation is $60.

All patients have to pay the medical consultation fee. These fees include unlimited messaging with our medical team about your prescription or home test kit, until renewal (if applicable).

If you plan on getting a test kit, you can expect to pay $75 plus the $15 consultation fee and any applicable copays or deductibles (with insurance).

Without health insurance, the Basics Covered costs $150, the Healthy Woman costs $190, and the Full Control costs $220. These prices include the kit, lab testing, and shipping both ways.

Patient Support

Navigating the healthcare system's ins and outs seems like an impossible task. For many, it is what keeps them from getting the medication they need. If you're struggling to pay for expensive medications or you're unsure what kind of medication you need, we suggest calling and talking with a Nurx representative. Nurx prides itself on hiring experienced, committed, and passionate clinical practitioners who want to help.

The customer service team is available by email, or you can call (Monday–Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST).

Accepts Medicaid

Currently, Nurx accepts Medicaid in the following states for our birth control, emergency contraceptive, herpes, HPV testing, and STI testing service lines:

  • Texas
  • Illinois
  • California

For our PrEP service line, Nurx accepts Medicaid in the following states:

  • Texas
  • Illinois
  • California
  • North Carolina
  • New York

Be aware that North Carolina and New York Nurx cannot dispense your medication through one of its partner pharmacies. It must be sent to a local pharmacy of your choosing.

The Bad

  • State Availability
  • No Refunds or Returns

State Availability

Unfortunately, Nurx isn't available nationwide. The company is working hard to change that, but there is no known estimate of when it will happen.

Nurx is not available to residents of the following states:

  • Alaska
  • Arkansas
  • Arizona
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Kansas
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • New Hampshire
  • New Mexico
  • Nevada
  • New York
  • Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island
  • South Dakota
  • Vermont
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming

No Refunds or Returns

It is against the law for prescriptions to be returned for resale or reuse. Because of this, Nurx does not allow you to return a prescription for credit or a refund.

The Bottom Line

Nurx is a fantastic option if you're looking for affordable healthcare. The company keeps its prices low (whether you have insurance or not), and there are a variety of kits, tests, and medications.

If you're on the fence and unsure whether or not Nurx is right for you, we recommend calling the company. When it comes to your health, there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution and talking with one of Nurx's medical consultants will help you find the right solution for your body.

Nurx's consultation fee is only $15 (unless it's for a migraine, then it's $60) and this comes with unlimited access to its medical team for consultations relating to your situation.

If you plan on using insurance to pay for your medication, be aware of your current insurance provider's coverage. You might have to pay a copay or deductible. However, if there are any other fees, Nurx is pretty good at communicating with patients and will let you know.
